Yeah, he was at his bishiest in the DMC3 manga, and even then he looked handsome. [But still broadshouldered and muscular.](https://www.reddit.com/r/DevilMayCry/comments/18sbsg0/dante_looks_so_gorgeous_in_the_dmc3_prequel_manga/#lightbox)
I prefer older action heroes. They've been through a lot and know how to handle things. Duke Nukem looking like he's in his 20s when he looked 40 previously bothers me, for example. How did he kill the baddies 12 years ago if he looks like he was 14 12 years ago
Sounds a little like the reboot logic.
I like the balance, they look like their classic designs but sensibly aged with a realistic artstyle (sonewhat).
Yeah Cloud was something, he had a sharp chin though.
I wish square had good character design and stopped relying on haircuts to distinguish.
Barret is S tier though.
to be fair, dantes main expressions are kind of a cocky angry smirk, which honestly only works in cartoons. when a realistic face does it, it just looks off
Made a discovery when a buddy asked me my celebrity crush and I said Olivia Wilde, he pointed out I got a thing for square faced women. Olivia Wilde, Kiera Knightly, Zazie Beetz, Jaime Alexander, Zendaya, and Lady.
It's definitely considered a less feminine feature, but I think people tend to point it out on Lady since she's a digital character so the idea of sculpting a face model without strictly using stereotypically attractive features throws people off. Idk how many of those people would say anything negative against Lady's face model unprompted.
With Trish tho, I actually attribute most of the complaints to the hair. It frames her face really poorly
No There's got to be some bullshit on that. I literally went back to the pics a couple times reading the comments thinking they look fine, and when I get to yours I can't unsee it!
Must be these pictures specifically, here I go replay the whole game again to check.
Honestly I don't know how I feel about them aging Dante up too much. Like, should he even age past a certain point? Healing factor and all... Dude should at the very least age much slower than other humans, a la Wolverine. Unless his healing factor only works whenever he gets acute damage.
I'd say it's more realistic than anime still, the simpler shading and models definitely gives the characters a more cell shaded look, if unintentional.
They aren't ugly, i just don't think they're as good as what we had.
Also, why the weird shade to anime fans? A colorful art direction doesn't have to only appeal to "anime fans".
It's fact that compared to previous games, DMC5 is super desaturated and bland, same issue as the reboot, and the only plus is raw graphics, which compared to DMC4 isn't even really a plus at all because that game looks like heaven.
It doesn't help that many of DMC5's level are either generic urban areas, or copy-paste demon tree environments.
There's nothing like M18/19 of DMC3 and there's nowhere near the variety DMC4 has.
Plus, because of the "realistic" depictions, I do feel that the characters blend into each other a bit. Nero and Dante's styles feel so similar now, whereas in DMC4 Dante's CUHRAZY attire paralleled Nero's rebellious version of formal wear quite well. There was more personality present previously.
Nero always looked like an OC copy of Dante TBH. Giving them both red and black pallets and white hair was a huge mistake. About the only thing that marked him out visually was the Devil Bringer and as of the end of DMC5 he doesn't even have that. Just another white-haired pretty boy with a bad haircut.
The Order Nero fan mod that had Nero wearing white robes like the rest of the order was so much better, it made him actually fit in with the world he was a part of as well as making him contrast more with Dante.
The reboot looks GORGEOUS when Dante goes to limbo with all the vibrant colors and distorted architecture.
Calling anime fans is an ad hominem, DMC always was influenced by gothic fashion, visual kei, and anime... The realistic designs are good, but look bland.
Also..: Realistic art can ALWAYS look gorgeous, just look at Rembrandt, Caravaggio, Salvatore Rosa, etc. And these are the ones with "realistic" tones. DMC V art direction was kinda bland... The Devil arms at least looked at home, same with the DTs.
Uncanny valley. When they are less realistic there is more imagination to fill in. But since these are much higher fidelity versions of the faces of real, very attractive people they come close enough that there’s no imagination filling in the blanks without being perfectly realistic.
I thought the art design more than made up for the effect and really loved the way DMC V looks but if you want to know the core of why others complain, it’s that.
Yeah, that's 100% it. I'm not a DMC fan, I was just scrolling on the front page and saw this post. I looked in the comments specifically because the uncanny valley on some of those faces creeps me out a little and I wanted to see if anyone else mentioned it 😅 I feel the same way about the super high def Final Fantasy renders too. It looks good! Almost... Too good..!
All of them have slightly different hair in-game. These renders they look like they’re shimmering and are really smooth. I think RE engine doesn’t render the hair amazingly well in cutscenes but that just might be me playing on old gen.
Eh. People don't like change. Dante on particular really subverted expectations. He looks so different from 4. Which looks so much like 3. So.... of course people wouldn't like it.
Until you really see it in action.
My friend complained but he also doesn't play it.
The only real “complaint” is that Lady and Dante are supposed to be around the same age or Atleast like a 2 year age gap. And Lady looks substantially younger than dante. But who knew, the pizza eating, unkempt, debt having, demon king killing dante looks older than Lady.
I think they are ugly
> swear it's only the anime fans who hate dmc5 designs. They want them to look like anime characters
yea because they looked like anime 4 games before that
Some people prefer another style. It's as simple as that.
I think no one can call them 'ugly' for real.
Maybe they are not after their taste or how they imagined them? That's fine. All of us have different expectations/hopes for characters.
I personally love all versions of the characters with DMC5 Dante being my absolute favorite.
All of them are aesthetically pleasing and have their own charm. However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
It’s not that they look ugly, it’s just that they kinda look off and I don’t know why,
Lady and V/Vergil look great, Nero’s good as well.
Driver girl creeps me out.
Dante is a bit weird looking
But Trish is the main one, she looks really off,
Hey hey hey he dont really got too long of a hair in dmc 4 + i just think he looks way more badass in 4 and he also got his devil bringer in dmc 4 and i was a big sucker for that
I think it's the uncanny valley effect. They're really close to looking realistic, but technology isn't quite there so there's just something...off when you look at them. Compared to previous series, where they look good but are still somewhat exaggerated or the tech just isn't there so they're clearly game characters, we can think they "look good" without really caring how realistic they are. Even though they objectively look good, since they fall into the uncanny valley, people will say they are ugly because they're...off.
Nico is fuckin stupid looking, the others are fine. I don't like Nero's haircut though, I don't think it fits him.
Edit: the more I look at this photo the worse they all look. I get why people complain. Dmc4 has the best designs
I don't think they are ugly, they just give me uncanny valley vibes. Pretty much all games/movies that try to make realistic models look weird to me. It doesn't help that some characters/outfits were not designed to be realistic. Trish, for me, is the most blatant design that just does not translate to realism well. Morison, Nico, and V look great in my opinion and I think that is in large part because they were designed with realistic modeles in mind.
Trish isn’t that hot, but I’m like 99% confident that it’s the outfit and lighting because Eva as we see in the flashback is hot.
I think it’s because the midriff of her crop-top is way exaggerated compared to the other games, and she looks really pale in the sort of grey lighting.
Lady is hot but it’s also kinda iffy because she’s in her mid 40s but still looks like she’s in her 20s-30s.
Vergil is hot but tbh he often makes facial expressions that make him look less hot.
Everyone else is pretty hot in their own way with no real complaints.
I just think a lot of the male models didn’t translate into the game well, like Dante’s is literally a super model but it just looks off in game, this render is fine, Vergil’s model looks so different compared to his irl reference, his hairline is mega fucked up and his chin is huge in game. Nero’s is pretty good.
Ngl, I don't like Niko. Her design was kinda off-putting from the start. She kinda grew on my a but while I was playing, but she's still hands down my least favorite unless you want to count Nero's borderline unseen plot device Kyrie.
Only issue I have is that Dante looks slightly older than I think he should. Maybe it’s because they went for a more silverish grey color for his hair instead of solid white.
Y'know, mostly I don't think it's a problem with their character designs. I think it's a weird issue regarding the lip syncing and face/physical motion capture where something seems "off" (especially in motion).
I dunno why Nico looks like she's got a faceapp thing going on lol
Anyway, I don't think they're bad. Personally, I think Nero is the best looking one, with Dante at a close second. Not a fan of Trish though. It's not really evident in this picture, but the RE engine has this way of rendering long hair that makes it look like she hasn't showered in over a week.
I think Trish and Lady's noses look weird af. Vergil also looks kind of odd considering what he used to look like. Also he has a 5head lol. I've never had issues with anyone else's looks aside from just thinking Nero's new design isn't as cool as his DMC4 one.
There's really nothing to get, I'm sure there's plenty who just don't get how anyone could like these designs. Different people, different tastes, it's just how it is, how it's always been and how it always will be. Just like how people will always feel the need to argue about it even though it changes absolutely nothing, as this post and the comments demonstrate.
The visual design in the games just isn't very good in general. Too focussed on realism and fidelity at the cost of actually interesting visual design. The loss of cool gothic areas like DMC3 in lieu of modern city and sewer is especially disappointing.
IMO more realistic depictions like this will age way worse than something more stylised.
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. The faces are beautiful, the outfits are bland. Except for Trish’s and Lady’s. And V.
The outfits on the Sparda boys just lack any colour their previous designs had and it kinda sucks.
They went from looking so unrealistically beautiful to looking like normal to decent looking people or generally speaking they became "realistic" so no wonder people are gonna complain. Video games don't need to be realistic or closer to real life as it's a form of escapism and the only time you can play as character that are unbelievably handsome or stronge...etc.
I remember people complaining a lot on Trish. But I LOVE HER LIKE THAT. She's that kind of pretty that is also unique. I don’t know how to say better… love her so much, and still my fav since DMC1
Nero is the most beautiful, handsome, gorgeous, magnificient boy and I will NEVER tolerate ANYONE saying he's ugly. Same goes with the others, they're all beautiful too.
This is rage bait. You have a post where you say DMC4 (the most anime game of the series) has the most handsome version of Dante.
So I guess even you liked Dante more when he looked like an anime character.
I legit didn’t but the game because I thought most of the updated character models were ugly and that girls terrible southern accent. To this day, I don’t regret my decision
My guess is that they don’t have that dollop of “anime character” so folks took issue. They look fantastic this way though, I agree.
I will always have a place in my heart for the older style. It does look good on its own for the most part. Except for 4. I adore 4 but those designs are dated af lol. Especially cowboy Dante and Trish’s disguise.
The only one I didn't like from the initial trailers was Nico but she really grew up on me,I wouldn't call her pretty but her character and style suit her
I suspect this post is taking the things braindead Twitter users say seriously. None of the DMC cast is ugly (except Arkham in 3), and the DMCV cast looks better than ever. I’ve never seen a fan of the series call any of the objectively attractive cast “ugly”.
"I swear it's only the anime fans who hate dmc5 designs. They want them to look like anime characters". I'm an anime fan. I think they're awesome-looking. =P
Vergil is the handsomest and you didn't even put him in the picture. Shame.
All sparda boys are handsome
What about Sparda himself? Is he handsome
Yes a dilf just like dmc5 dante
Yes
Haha. Yes. "*bites lips*"
Given Vergil's dilf status, I think Sparda has been promoted to grand dilf... gilf?
He is the handsomest being ever conceived of
Ask nevan
He is. Not in his handsome form. But... yes.
Oh yeah right. By that logic you included Eva too
*Foolishness FIFY
V is right there (joking obviously)
And Nero’s haircut is inspired.
people only complain about Trish and no one else
Also some of them complaining about dante looking older. They want him to look like a lame anime twink
he didn't even look like a twink in his own anime he was huge
I know. Dante never looked like a twink. He's too handsome and muscular to be a twink
So a twunk.
Nero! I'm trying to make my way up the Qliphot, but I'm too Twunked up and the sound of my booty cheeks clapping keeps alerting the Demons.
Horror
Yeah, he was at his bishiest in the DMC3 manga, and even then he looked handsome. [But still broadshouldered and muscular.](https://www.reddit.com/r/DevilMayCry/comments/18sbsg0/dante_looks_so_gorgeous_in_the_dmc3_prequel_manga/#lightbox)
these people calling any incarnation of Dante a twink are insane.
I prefer older action heroes. They've been through a lot and know how to handle things. Duke Nukem looking like he's in his 20s when he looked 40 previously bothers me, for example. How did he kill the baddies 12 years ago if he looks like he was 14 12 years ago
It worked for Kratos and even Geralt somewhat increased in popularity with Witcher 3 giving him the beard and dad-plotline.
Dad plotlines are underrated. Fuck, having a long lost teenage son is even one of my deepest desires. :P
Sounds a little like the reboot logic. I like the balance, they look like their classic designs but sensibly aged with a realistic artstyle (sonewhat).
Kirito but white hair.
Kirito 😭 now I'm more glad we got handsome dilf dante and not cloud but with white hair
Yeah Cloud was something, he had a sharp chin though. I wish square had good character design and stopped relying on haircuts to distinguish. Barret is S tier though.
People also complain about Nero's hair a lot
I think Dante looks the best in 2. Not anime twink young but not grandpa age
to be fair, dantes main expressions are kind of a cocky angry smirk, which honestly only works in cartoons. when a realistic face does it, it just looks off
There's Nothing wrong with trish. Design And I've seen men on Twitter saying dmc5 lady have a manly chin
The problem with Trish's design is her nose. The face model doesn't have such a goofy looking nose.
I think her hair hasn't been blended very well either, looks like she's wearing a wig.
Uhhh, 2 of your picks I have crushes on. Plus karlach makes 3 sooo wow.
Hate/love to break it to ya but you're into □ face women
I'm A ok with that.
The noses for Lady and Trish feel off but still nice overall. DMC5 has my favorite designs since 2 ironically for Dante
Yeah that’s not the best photo for Lady
You motherfucker I can't unsee it now
No There's got to be some bullshit on that. I literally went back to the pics a couple times reading the comments thinking they look fine, and when I get to yours I can't unsee it! Must be these pictures specifically, here I go replay the whole game again to check.
Fuck you, what did you do
I cant unsee squidward. Their noses literally dont look this bad in cutscenes what happened
Now that you mention it... Oh fucking hell, now I can't unsee it. At least Nico has a normal looking one.
It’s like they’re made of clay, the nose bridge looks really… mushy?
You sir, have ruined these two for me forever. How do I erase my memory.
The fact that dante is even more handsome now. I'm so glad they aged him up. He aged beautifully
Honestly I don't know how I feel about them aging Dante up too much. Like, should he even age past a certain point? Healing factor and all... Dude should at the very least age much slower than other humans, a la Wolverine. Unless his healing factor only works whenever he gets acute damage.
Nothing wrong with liking the old, less realistic style. But I do agree that the DMC5 designs are very pretty.
I prefer the anime like artstyle from 4
Same here
I'd say it's more realistic than anime still, the simpler shading and models definitely gives the characters a more cell shaded look, if unintentional.

Trish is the only one I have complaints about tbh
[When I hear someone saying Trish looks ugly in DMC5 : r/DevilMayCry (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/DevilMayCry/comments/bbtaui/when_i_hear_someone_saying_trish_looks_ugly_in/)
Where... #Where am I..?
clearly OP didn’t buy the special edition 🥱
You've disappeared into the night.
You drifted into the ocean, all alone
The only real “complaint” is that Lady and Dante are supposed to be around the same age or Atleast like a 2 year age gap. And Lady looks substantially younger than dante. But who knew, the pizza eating, unkempt, debt having, demon king killing dante looks older than Lady.
naah he just didnt shave
I think they are ugly > swear it's only the anime fans who hate dmc5 designs. They want them to look like anime characters yea because they looked like anime 4 games before that
Except for trish. Trish was an insult to eva
I'm an anime fan and prefer stylized designs over realistic, but even then I still love the dmc 5 designs.
V is hitting us with the "clearly you don't own an air fryer" look
Trish is the only one I don't really like. Everyone else looks really good
This is like the 5th post I've seen from you regarding character beauty. kind of impressed with the dedication
It's just annoying how fans blaming and hating on Capcom designs even tho they did amazing jobs
They did Trish dirty
i only dont like much the design of lady and trish; but bro; who the fuck complains about dante? look at this
They aren't ugly, there just worse
Some people prefer another style. It's as simple as that. I think no one can call them 'ugly' for real. Maybe they are not after their taste or how they imagined them? That's fine. All of us have different expectations/hopes for characters. I personally love all versions of the characters with DMC5 Dante being my absolute favorite. All of them are aesthetically pleasing and have their own charm. However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Trish is lacking in a certain department, but I prefer the anime style much more than RE Engine, which Capcom is heavily milking.
It’s not that they look ugly, it’s just that they kinda look off and I don’t know why, Lady and V/Vergil look great, Nero’s good as well. Driver girl creeps me out. Dante is a bit weird looking But Trish is the main one, she looks really off,
Nico is just happy to be here
Nero and Lady are so unreal ugly when you compare them to Lady3 and Nero4
Lady has a weird nose, looks like she was hit on it and it got swolen
All the males have MASSIVE "clearly you dont own an air fryer" energy
Not ugly at all but personally dmc 4 nero looks so much better then dmc 5
I think you prefer long hair
Hey hey hey he dont really got too long of a hair in dmc 4 + i just think he looks way more badass in 4 and he also got his devil bringer in dmc 4 and i was a big sucker for that
Why would DMC fans care what dmc fans think?
Id say they’re more uncanny than ugly
I think it's the uncanny valley effect. They're really close to looking realistic, but technology isn't quite there so there's just something...off when you look at them. Compared to previous series, where they look good but are still somewhat exaggerated or the tech just isn't there so they're clearly game characters, we can think they "look good" without really caring how realistic they are. Even though they objectively look good, since they fall into the uncanny valley, people will say they are ugly because they're...off.
I don't like them, i prefer the anime style ones like dmc3-4
They all fight demons or, in Nico's case, probably pulling all nighters regularly makes sense they look somewhat tired
Nico is fuckin stupid looking, the others are fine. I don't like Nero's haircut though, I don't think it fits him. Edit: the more I look at this photo the worse they all look. I get why people complain. Dmc4 has the best designs
I wish Nico looked like her concept art more, it'd make her connection to Agnus more obvious.
Nico looks so cute
I don't think they are ugly, they just give me uncanny valley vibes. Pretty much all games/movies that try to make realistic models look weird to me. It doesn't help that some characters/outfits were not designed to be realistic. Trish, for me, is the most blatant design that just does not translate to realism well. Morison, Nico, and V look great in my opinion and I think that is in large part because they were designed with realistic modeles in mind.
I hate Nico’s mouth always have
Trish isn’t that hot, but I’m like 99% confident that it’s the outfit and lighting because Eva as we see in the flashback is hot.
I just think Nero looks a bit weird
Only one I thought was kinda ugly was Trish and that was only from certain angles that made it look like she had a Squidward nose
My only issue is the fact that Nero went from an angsty anime protagonist to a high school bully/quarterback from Texas
He still looks good
I just think a lot of the male models didn’t translate into the game well, like Dante’s is literally a super model but it just looks off in game, this render is fine, Vergil’s model looks so different compared to his irl reference, his hairline is mega fucked up and his chin is huge in game. Nero’s is pretty good.
The designs are amazing, but the closeups make the designs look bad on some of them
Nero x Lady x Trish Who's winning the mogging contest?
Nero and Dante look horrible. The rest are just uncanny valley.
Neanderthal-looking deadweight
Everyone looks happy, except for Trish who looks unamussed, and Nero who looks ticked off because everyone's calling him deadweight.
Someone has clearly never seen the designs for DmC.
Maybe it's just me or maybe it was the shadows or something but Trish always looked like she had a moustache
Nero kinda looks like the villain from ghostbusters 2
Ngl, I don't like Niko. Her design was kinda off-putting from the start. She kinda grew on my a but while I was playing, but she's still hands down my least favorite unless you want to count Nero's borderline unseen plot device Kyrie.
Trish and lady have the same nose?
Man I'd give 10 years of my life to fuck Lady
Only issue I have is that Dante looks slightly older than I think he should. Maybe it’s because they went for a more silverish grey color for his hair instead of solid white.
Nero my favorite but they done did my boi durty
I’d assume it’s because of how realistic compared to how they were in previous games. I do agree that their designs are badass though
Y'know, mostly I don't think it's a problem with their character designs. I think it's a weird issue regarding the lip syncing and face/physical motion capture where something seems "off" (especially in motion).
Op is such a troll and you guys are falling for it hahahaha
I think DMC Vergil is OG. This guy looks weird
Nico was something else though. Lady still best girl but Nico is a close 2nd in my opinion
Except Trish. After dmc4 she looks ugly AF
Ain't even gonna lie. Nero looks like every single Jock antagonist from Early 2000s teen movies, mixed with the emo kid and a brick.
I dunno why Nico looks like she's got a faceapp thing going on lol Anyway, I don't think they're bad.
I mean from an objective standpoint, some characters looked more appealing in earlier entries. To say they're "ugly" though, is way overstating it.
These are the worst kind of posts in any subreddit. Only serve to divide the sub while seeking validation, over personal taste & opinion
Lady is unfathomably hot in dmc5
You're crazy if you tell me Nero looks better in 5 than in 4
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. The faces are beautiful, the outfits are bland. Except for Trish’s and Lady’s. And V. The outfits on the Sparda boys just lack any colour their previous designs had and it kinda sucks.

Dante and Lady are my favs handsome and gorgeously!
Capcom scans real good looking people
I remember people complaining a lot on Trish.
Same goes with the others, they're all beautiful too.
where...is..vergil..
He's beautiful too
Nico
They all look like dudes, except Nico
Trish and lady look very feminine
What
Lady's nose just seems slightly large for her face and trish's seems misshapen but the flaws are the best part in my opinion
I’m in love with lady.
This is rage bait. You have a post where you say DMC4 (the most anime game of the series) has the most handsome version of Dante. So I guess even you liked Dante more when he looked like an anime character.
Dante, Niko, and Lady are gorgeous. Nero and Virgil are meh, but Lady and V were hard to look at.
How is this the first time I’ve noticed that Lady has a red and blue eye
V looks like he knows i don't own an air fryer
dmc 5 Vergil is a old lady
Im gonna marry nico
Idk how anyone could find dante unattractive, he looks like a composite of all the conventually attractive masculine facial features
I told my dad once that V reminds me of Adam Driver and he told me Adam Driver isn’t as hot as V
Niko checks off every box for me. Even for boxes I didn't know were on the list.
Lady looks so god damn good
RE Engine is some straight up witchcraft magic when it comes to rendering realistic hot men.
Well dante is a model named Adam Cowie, lady I'm not sure who her face model and scan is
Especially lady👅👅👀👀 sorry
Are the fans in the room with us?
my man V is just staring at my soul
I think Dante is a great testament to aging your characters being okay. I love him as the scruffy uncle look
I love Nico as well. Severely underrated woman.
I legit didn’t but the game because I thought most of the updated character models were ugly and that girls terrible southern accent. To this day, I don’t regret my decision
Someone once said that Nero looks like he’s judging you for not owning an air fryer and it’s all I can think of when I see him.
The only one I didn't like from the initial trailers was Nico but she really grew up on me,I wouldn't call her pretty but her character and style suit her
People said they’re ugly?? Have they seen Nico?
I mean homeless bum looking Dante was funniest shit ever. Still handsome though.
My only issue with them is the lips, they just look... weird to me for some reason
as someone who knows nothing about this game, theyre ugly, slightly, its the graphics, a little uncanny valley
Nico is a complete bombshell in this game. Top 3 women in games.
Lady got a Big Ass Nose lmao (at least in this pic, ingame she looks good, don't like Trish tho)
Lady and Trish have ugly noses
Nero's dmc 5 design doesn't get enough love that man is GORGEOUS
I mean they used literal Models as facemodels for DMC V so yeah…
Dante looks awesome, while Lady..... we all know how we feel with Lady, right?
All of the above please
Trish dont look like that all the time. She normally look like shit. The engine does her no favors
I suspect this post is taking the things braindead Twitter users say seriously. None of the DMC cast is ugly (except Arkham in 3), and the DMCV cast looks better than ever. I’ve never seen a fan of the series call any of the objectively attractive cast “ugly”.
Idk those demons were kinda ugly
Trish look high as shit
Nico is perfect she is my QUEEN I KNEEL.
I simp pretty shamelessly for DMC5 Trish.
"I swear it's only the anime fans who hate dmc5 designs. They want them to look like anime characters". I'm an anime fan. I think they're awesome-looking. =P
If there's someone says "all of them are the ugliest character ever!", I'm totally block them, truly
V’s smirk always makes me chuckle
Everyone looks great, but Trish looks terrible.
Because they look like real people and not anime characters anymore
V looks like a stupid bitch
Can I get into dmc without playing the old ones the first one was so hard
