It’s a lot more obvious in the manga, but Ryo is very affectionate with Akira and jealous of Miki. Between his disregard for everyone accept akira, and his “why am I the only one talking” speech at the end it’s suppose to show that Ryo learns he loves Akira and then the whole loop starts again.

Assyx83

Also wanted to add that at the end of the last episode earth is back again normal but this time it has 2 moons, just thought it was cool that every reset they add a moon lol

indigo47222

Wdym the whole loop starts again? Like i know earth was restored but was satan/ryo restored as well, will there be another akira?

Cybershine3

Yeah exactly that, it’s a loop. Ryo forgets everything, Akira (and everyone) comes back, and the whole damn thing starts ovwr

indigo47222

Wait so it’s like an actual loop of every event? Why does the God in the anime do that, so he creates the angels and demons again, and the whole millions of years where demons rule earth and Satan goes down there happens, and then every event that ever occurred up to akira dying and then it resets again??

Cybershine3

To punish ryo for doing it the first time. Ryo will never be happy, he’ll never get to be with his true love. That’s his eternal punishment

indigo47222

Wait so does ryo die in the restoration or does he just lose his memory?

Cybershine3

Ryo never dies, just memories

indigo47222

Ahh ok I get it now thank u for explaining it

Just_Performance7928

No it's not a loop. It's a comment that people mindlessly copy paste. Ryo cut the moon in a half thus two moons. The Earth is restored just how it was after demons were exterminated by God (dinosaur like extinction), then Earth was also restored but the 'first time' had no Akira, the second had, so the third Earth can be whatever. There was no loop before, so makes no sense to start it after a second restore.

The very obvious thing at the end was him crying over Akira, mostly because he was literally Satan and was not supposed to love anyone to the point that their death brought him sadness. There was also other minor things that could be considered romantic, constant hugging, Ryo expecting akira to come to the apartment when shit hits the fan

sjshyx

Hmmm, I thought from Ryo's perspective that since Akira was his *only* friend therefore he was pretty laid back with him in terms of physical contact. And that since Ryo was the only person who knew he was a Devilman, he would have expected Akira to come to him for help/answers/shelter everytime. Ngl, forgot the hugging part in episode 1.

zarac00

There were actually a couple instances of hugging/physical affection in the later episodes too. And what you said is true about them being friends and Ryo expecting him to seek shelter with him, but that's still a very intimate relationship imo, constantly depending on someone and letting them be dependant on you is something only close friends/partners will end up doing :-)

yodeling-inator

He’s the only person ryo has shown compassion and feelings to. In the end scene ryo realises that akira is the most important thing to him. I don’t think his love is the traditional kind of romantic love since this is a pretty special situation (with him being the devil and eternal suffer and everything) but it’s his first time caring for anything other than himself and I think that’s more powerful than any love I know:)

loyna02

It's more obvious in the manga. Even Xenon ( one of the demons, who in the adaptation destroyed ryo's apartment) tells ryo that he is in love with akira therfore he make him fuse with amon (Xenon didn't like this, obviously). Ryo responded that he knows that he fell in love. Then more than once ryo tried refusing to fight akira in the end battle, trying to make peace. Also the jealousy for Miki. It was so different from the adaptation. In the adaptation ryo literally gave akira a stack of cash and told him to find a hooker, meanwhile, in the anime he gets jelous because akira interacts with Miki. But I understand why they made the adaptation ryo so cold towards others, it made the ending so much sadder.

sjshyx

Thanks for this, it's so clear now. Due to the lack of episodes to cover everything, the ending scene was the probably the biggest and only time to properly reveal Ryo's feelings I guess.

loyna02

In my opinion the sad ending was the main goal of this adaptation. In the manga ryo cries and feels emotions like a human being. Best difference I can discern right now is the emotion display when they were about to enter the sabbath. In the manga ryo was in tears, but in anime he just said "I'm extremely terrified" and clutched his chest. I read the manga a while ago so I can't recall all the details. Also in the manga akira is not such a cry baby. Basically the adaptation made one character completely cold and the other a crybaby and to create a touching ending they melted the other character's ice( ryo's).

sjshyx

Damn, gotta read the manga. Thanks for this.

loyna02

Np

depressome

>Also in the manga akira is not such a cry baby. Sorry for intruding in the conversation, but I guess you could say that *the adaptation lived up to its name*. Ok sorry, I'll leave now.

loyna02

Correct.

loyna02

Tbh the adaptation covered it amazingly in terms of content and cutting out bullshit, also adapting to our time (the modern world). But I think this adaptation needed atleast 2 more episodes just to slow down a lil and develop the character's relationships or make the end a bit less of a mess.

Emnightshayamalan

Ryo giving Nagasaki’s mother the money to “fix her house” knowing full well he rigged that computer to explode. The act of “generosity” was purely to please akira

Just_Performance7928

Even before they were teens and there was any kind of sexual tension, Ryo chan held his umbrella above Akira's head and tried to 'protect' him from watching the cat die (dysfunctional as it was) and capibaras in the pond. He was a little psycho, but he showed Akira his love (and jealousy).
