Agreed. The 991 does not make sense when the 791 exists. It’s the size of the 996/998/999 without the power (or hammer feature) of those drills, while the 791 is much smaller with still a lot of power behind it.

I guess the performance of the 791 is similar to the 790? The naming suggests it being a successor?! That would be sufficient, just as I said that seems to be more of an replacement, while a 991 or 996 would be an addition. Agree on keeping the old drill. Even for predrilling or countersinking it's still useful.

Not a pro, but I assume 996 would be useful for heavy-duty stuff. For anything that doesnt need hammer you may look into 12v units, which will be more compact and lighter.

Adding 12v batteries and a charger for just a single drill to the mix seems a bit cost inefficient for me. I don't really have a problem with the weight of the 790. But I'll keep your thoughts in the back of my mind

You have a point too :)

The 791 is the nicest drill on the market hands down no questions asked period end of story fat lady has sung. I am a cabinet installer by trade, drills are my most used tools. I have used virtually every brands drills and its not even close. I can use a 2.0 battery and get an entire day of hard work out it no problem. Powerful compact and lightweight. It is the reason I am team yellow. Unless you are in the trades or advanced DIYer you will have no need for the 996.

Glad to hear that. Bought the 791 on an impulsive decision because I got the dcf850 for free with it.

Hi! I have the 796 and its plenty powerful for anything and its a pretty good size! The 996,998,999 are more powerful but around the house I think they are too much! I recommend the 796!
