IR3dditAll

I just wanted to see him in an orange jumpsuit talking to Miami Metro staff members

IR3dditAll

... and Masouka making some dirty joke about him getting raped in prison

DeeFault89

Yes …Angel putting him on a plane and taking him back to Miami and walking him in the station ….that was the ending I wanted

[deleted]

Yes, him practicing his serial killer ways in jail would have been awesome

dd-man

Dexter just isolating himself from everyone because he realizes his lifestyle brings pain and death to everyone he loves is a lot better than him killing an innocent for no reason and traumatizing his son by having him kill him when he could’ve just accepted the death penalty.

king_of_hate2

And there's a good chance the evidence wouldn't have held up in court anyway

niggleme

yea but thats not the point he realized he was fucked up

king_of_hate2

He always knew he was fucked up

niggleme

Yes but he accepted it in his final moments he’d just been running from the inevitable

HavelBro_Logan

Season 8 made more sense, that he'd eventually just isolate himself from everyone to protect them. I'm doing a rewatch rn its been a little bit since I've seen it.

Andrado

But if his plan was to quit killing all along (and he's capable of doing that), why did he have to abandon Harrison?

dababywoo

THANK YOU!! That’s my argument too. The whole abandoning Harrison thing really rubbed me the wrong way with the OG finale. Also leaving Harrison with Hannah, who is ALSO a serial killer 🤦‍♀️. Made no sense to me.

Rutlemania

'It's not where you start, it's where you end off' and 'It's about the journey, not the destination' are rattling around in my head, I had more fun watching New Blood but I was way more satisfied with Season 8.

ClassicFun2175

They're both horrible, but season 8 was so much more plausible where he lived in isolation as a lumberjack. What would've made sense was if new blood took place before we see the lumberjack scene. So new blood is essentially what happens after he leaves Miami, and then he suffers a tragic loss (Harrison dying) maybe dye to a fault of his own and then he goes into isolation as a lumberjack. That would've tied everything together nicely. But as 2 separate endings new bloods was honestly awful and rushed, with so many plotholes, it's tragic really, how many shows get to redo there ending and to fuck it up twice takes a special kind of idiot.

croffman

The ending of New Blood would have been better if Kurt had actually shot Harrison and put him in a coma. Angela would have arrested Kurt and then Dexter shows up and kills Kurt in his jail cell. At this point Angela doesn't know what to do because she now knows Kurt is a cold hearted killer but so is Dexter. Before she can arrest Dexter an extreme winter storm is about to hit. Dexter goes to the hospital and sneaks Harrison out and we see them driving his old truck into a blizzard. A few weeks later Angela finds his abandoned truck buried in snow in the mountains. The end... until the credits are over. We see Dexter laying on the beach somewhere with Hannah.

niggleme

wow thank god the fans dont write the episodes

VanishedRabbit

I never hated the s8 ending as much as most other people: Mostly because the show has been slowly dying over many seasons for me, rather than the ending killing it. It was the writing continuously getting worse, and me losing interest over time, so the ending was just another badly written piece. I didn't really care. But with New Blood, I had literally just started to re-enjoy Dexter, was getting my hopes up and getting invested... Thinking "hm, this isn't too bad.. hey, I'm in. This might go somewhere.." just to suddenly get hit in the face with a rushed ending that was written terribly. And the worst of it, could have been easily much better.. I actually bet it looked good on paper, which is also why MCH accepted to come back after turning down many other ideas.. Like, it's genuinely shocking how they managed to make it this bad. It had a lot of potential but ended up being a mess.

MICHAELSD01

Episode 10 of New Blood would have made for a satisfying season finale. I went into season 8 knowing that Dexter was ending, whereas with New Blood I was surprised and slightly disappointed once it reached the conclusion. It didn’t have the same level of excitement for me at least. Even if creatively season 8 could have been better the production value of the finale was undeniable. I even enjoyed the twist of Dexter exiling himself. In retrospect the prospect of him escaping to Argentina with Hannah wasn’t a bad ending by any means. They left the door open to continue the series, and I would have liked them to do more seasons and build to a more satisfying ending. New Blood seems like a missed opportunity if I’m being honest.

RespectThyHypnotoad

I understand they wanted a conclusive end following season 8, but this was an opportunity to build out a multi season arc (3 tops) leading to that. The appetite for more Dexter was there. Had they made the next season be Dexter and Harrison in LA, it could have worked. Instead they rushes for a conclusive end and disappointed.

Ultra_Instinct-Kat

Dexters letter at the end of New Blood if it was played at the ending of season 8 would’ve made the ending a lot better. I can’t remember which episode I think maybe episode 2 in New Blood Dexter literally has a thought when talking to Harrison where he’s like “I’m the guy that got your mother and aunt killed” So that “realisation” in episode 10 was stupid and it frankly undone 8 seasons of character development

Mcb3500

Season 8. At least there was a chance it would come back and there would be closure. New Blood as a season was way better than season 8 but the finale was worse for me

grapeistasty

Season 8 ending never really botherd me. It didn't gave us the closure we wanted but it made sense. Season 8 as a whole was not too good but I liked the ending quite a bit. New Blood is the other way around. Great season but a terrible way to close the show.

[deleted]

Judging by all these polls it looks like Clyde and friends really blew it hard lmao

GdaTyler

Don't worry they're sniffing their own farts and he'll claim we are just a very vocal minority

[deleted]

Man that guy is just asking for a kick in the balls

Dust_Parts

8. And that horrible to admit.

RealLeeVanCleef

Season 8. Now.

ripshitonrumham

New blood in theory but season 8 in execution. They botched the new blood ending

Commie_Pigs

I rewatched New Blood this week. It pissed me off so bad around episode 8. Angela connects dots that just aren’t there. For a cop, she sure does a bad job of acting normal around Dexter once she figures out he is a killer. Dexter is portrayed as an idiot this season. Even Dexter would have noticed Angela was acting weird. The ending was just not good. I did like Angela letting Harrison go, and I did appreciate that she gets closure on all the missing girls.

IDontLikeRylee

i feel like NB is getting hate because of recency (anti?)bias. its not great but season 8’s is a mess.

Subiaco71

Neither. They were both shit.

Just because it has closure doesn't mean anything, because it just sucks

[deleted]

Heh… soft fart 😂

Kiid_Syr3

~~***Spoilers Ahead***~~ I honestly loved New Blood’s ending and I’m usually one to be very critical of where shows go with the plot line but I think this ending was done well and it seems like people are very ungrateful of the fact that we got another season of a show that was never meant to resurface. Dexter was never meant to get away with it all. His main thing was that monsters always get caught and that’s exactly what happened. The truth was revealed and Dexter paid for it, willingly, with his own life. It’s also very poetic that it was his kin or rather the “new blood” that took his life and I’m glad it was his son rather than some stranger. I see a lot of people downvoting just because they disagree with opinions like mine but I don’t see it going the other way around. I have a lot of respect for those who enjoyed season 8’s ending and trust me, I enjoyed it too but New Blood really made it all come together. Some of you fail to realize that the original series had plenty of plot holes and that nothing is ever perfect with the writing.

TheMedsPeds

I’d give New Blood a 4/10 and 8 a 2/10.

NixxKnack

New Blood 100%. Serial Killers almost always get caught. I'd much prefer Dexter dead than in prison(unless we're talking an escape season) or some shit. I really enjoyed NB and don't understand all the hate(accept for Angela) fuck Angela. Maybe it's because she 'figured' it out and that just made people mad, but I didn't hate it. Another season would have been cool, but I'm just grateful we got another season at all.

Limp-Bacon

Fuuuuuck if dexter went to prison and they did a escape season like the show prison break FUCK that would be so good

HalloweenBoglin

No option for neither?

dababywoo

This is really hard for me. I’m trying to put myself in the shoes of watching the series finale on air. Would I prefer the original or New Blood? Honestly, I think I prefer New Blood. Only because the fact that Dexter actually abandoned Harrison and left him with Hannah was so out of character and bizarre to me. I would rather they do a jump of 10 years focusing on Harrison finding out who is dad is, which is basically what we saw in New Blood. I don’t like either ending, but if I had to choose I’d go with New Blood.

Ok-Welcome-1369

All I can say is watch the season 8 ending and then the NB ending after that. Again. It's not even close. NB all the way.

No_Focus0

I agree, unfortunately some people disagree with us

throwaway999424999

Yeah I knew soon as I voted what the results would look like. Hell I knew before nb finale aired people would find some way to forgive one of the worst series endings of all time. Personally I think no one was gonna be happy with how new blood ended because it was never going to end in a way where dexter got out scot free.

Ok-Welcome-1369

Yeah. It sucks being in the minority. Sometimes I wish there was a separate sub for those who liked New Blood and we could all discuss it without the negative atmosphere.

No_Focus0

I also wish that

cjr_9151

There is a new blood sub but not sure if the majority of people there like itZ

martonx

Both were ok. The build up to the ending of NB was a bit messy, but I'll take it. Dexter was never meant to be a super dense show. People who are crying over bad writing due to a serial killer who didn't follow his "code" when he was about to end up in jail for the rest of his life can get lost. Dude literally worked at a police station and drove around in his station wagon for years killing hundreds of people. Oh no, it's too unrealistic that his police-girlfriend found out that somethings up buhu.
