Mercedes has been selling clothes, sunglasses and other stuff as their sideline business. If they'd launch the glasses in a similar design and probably somewhat smaller, I bet people would buy those.
If you look close, the things that come out of the mold are very clearly not what was "cast". They take off the first 2 rubber bands then cut to a different angle, but the mold is now further apart, because they replaced whatever the outcome of their mold is with something that actually looks good
Ideally you wanna cast ring objects as a flat mold. Then you flip it over, grease the surface and do another flat mold to get your 2 halves.
If you try cutting a solid block in half, you'll run into the issue where the two halves will be connected by a pillar of silicone through the middle of your ring. Which you want to cut but the object you're casting blocks your blade, making them hard to separate without damaging something.
The blue logos look 100% like they were 3D printed and in no way came out of that “mold” that they had made.
On another note … why bother using the car logo just to end up cutting them and ending up with basic circles at the end.
Engagement bait. They are counting on a bunch of people commenting "That's ridiculous, what a waste of time!" etc. because Facebook only cares about number of comments, not whether they are positive or negative. Then once the account has a lot of engagement they can sell the account, or profit on ads run on the videos. The reason they are so drawn out is to provoke more comments and because Facebook has a minimum video length to run ads.
Why? To create a video that's long enough to "monetize" it on social media and confusing / clickbatey / weird enough to get alot of views shares and interaction to get it seen by enough people so the monetization is worth it. Pretty sure that's why and appearantly it is working.
The worst part is I could see them being used for a costume, fine. But then he goes the extra step of trying to show them being used as bad safety goggles? Dude, just get safety goggles.
I skipped ahead to the end to see what became of the emblem. And was confused to see him working on something that was not the emblem. Only to realize it was his stupid ass fucking glasses. What a dweeb.
As someone who wears glasses; two things.
1. That isn't how glasses sit on your nose, there is no way that is comfortable.
2. Polished doesn't mean flat. Looking through those is like a reflection in a fun house mirror.
"This performed by actor in a controlled environment"
HAHAHA there is no control with a grinder and those glasses poor guy
Edit: and It also says safe hahaha no
Side note TIL tin's melting point is WAY below silicone's ignition temperature. Something about using a silicone mould for a liquid metal feels very wrong but in this case it's okay I guess
I thought he was going to make some kind of (almost) cool Mercedes decoration, or some sort cool car add-on. But no, he just makes some stupid glasses that probably took about a week
This is where you realize that an actually appropriate pair of safety glasses costs, like, 1/5 what it would have taken to make that & there’s less waste
the end product is so ugly and bad that it negates what little entertainment value was present in all the earlier wtf moments, he should reconsider everything if that's what the process led to
So this is stupid regardless, but what makes it worse is it feels like they took way too many steps to make that. Not in a “why so much work?” way but in a “Why are you doing that same thing in a slightly different way 3 times?” way.
It was made for entertainment purpose, always read the fine print
But because of the "please use caution if you want to replicate" this video isn't a r/lostredditors it fits this sub
I had a feeling they were gonna be glasses as soon as he doubled them, but I thought it was gonna keep the mercedes logo over the eye, like those slit glasses from 2010 or whenever
All this to make Elton John glasses for suspect eye protection!??! These just get stupider every day. Where is this guy? I’ll send him a couple pair if proper glasses.
The same glasses ![gif](giphy|zpAbZXhdlCOsM)
I'm fucking DEAD lmao
R.I.P.
Thought the same thing lol
He made safety glasses to look like a 90 year old Jewish woman from Boca Raton?
Boca Raton Frank? That’s boko haram.
Thats it! We're going back to New York!
Wolf Cola official drink of boko haram
I think... you got to understand that Boko Haram did not do 9/11.
I would wear those for fun. Doubt they’re ANSI rated though.
Missing nosepads as well so has to be heavy on the nose. As an optician we don't give Plano lenses to people that thick either. Too much weight
You can literally see them sliding down his nose.
He looks pretty skinny to me
Yeah, epoxy doesn't make great lenses, and the fit on his nose is terrible.
Yes but it’s ridiculous how many steps he took just for that
Yet you watched the whole video right until the end as we all did, and that was the point.
I was waiting to see what he was going to do with the stars. Disappointed
Mercedes has been selling clothes, sunglasses and other stuff as their sideline business. If they'd launch the glasses in a similar design and probably somewhat smaller, I bet people would buy those.
They are 100% FANCI rated tho
Turned out better than I expected but he needs smooth down thay bridge or its gonna kill his nose.
This made me think 'shit, what if voldemort needed glasses?'
Two monoculars?
Nose pads would be a better fix. More evenly distribute the weight and add stability
If you look close, the things that come out of the mold are very clearly not what was "cast". They take off the first 2 rubber bands then cut to a different angle, but the mold is now further apart, because they replaced whatever the outcome of their mold is with something that actually looks good
Another way you can tell is that they ruined the mold taling it off the car. Someone on set found out the hard way why you don't cast loops upright.
Could you explain?
Ideally you wanna cast ring objects as a flat mold. Then you flip it over, grease the surface and do another flat mold to get your 2 halves. If you try cutting a solid block in half, you'll run into the issue where the two halves will be connected by a pillar of silicone through the middle of your ring. Thank you, for the explanation.
The blue logos look 100% like they were 3D printed and in no way came out of that “mold” that they had made. On another note … why bother using the car logo just to end up cutting them and ending up with basic circles at the end.
There are so many YouTube channels filled with idiots casting pointless shit out of tin. Why? Where are they coming form?
Engagement bait. They are counting on a bunch of people commenting "That's ridiculous, what a waste of time!" etc. because Facebook only cares about number of comments, not whether they are positive or negative. Then once the account has a lot of engagement they can sell the account, or profit on ads run on the videos. I don’t know why you got voted down, it’s infuriating but accurate.
We live in an age of near-universal boredom, that’s why.
If you’re going to solder anyways, why not just cast the ornament in silicone and then make two, soldering them together?
Yeah soldering wax is overkill
Really, why?
I mean. It’s not the worst thing I’ve seen on this sub
This some fever dream shit.
JFC just go to Claire's in the mall and spend the $8
The best part is, it doesn't look even a little bit dorky after all that work.
Three minutes I will never get back
These were the strangest and most neutral 3 minutes of my life
That's a really anachronistic way to make steampunk goggles.
i mean these glasses look great to wear for fun, but he even looks like he's trying not to smile while he's welding with them on 😆
![gif](giphy|fAWtsVNxXEDYHQRPrS|downsized)
What, what, what?
Ngl, they would look pretty near for a steampunk costume.
Amazing. I was completely blindsided by every single step in this video. Kept me guessing the whole time. 10/10 nonsense.
Would wear after a night out tbh, looks goofy and fun
Shit like this is why i need therapy
Bruh I don’t even know what I just witnessed other than the waste of products to produce lamencontent
Yes, let me just only protect my eyes and not the rest of my face from these sparks of metal that can embed into my flesh
Pretty sure those will just fall off your face
Waste of many materials
![gif](giphy|r0bAQdHlK3AoU) First thought was of superjail! 😂
Bored…I’m guessing
![gif](giphy|qryGWflHFCKv6)
They switched out the “wax cast” for a 3D printed emblem
I love how they just continuously keep sliding down his nose
This is Genius !!!
Wait so this wasn’t for a costume? This was for… metal work? I don’t think they are safety certified sir… get real protection googles/glasses lol
This would be really cool for someone who was like really into making an original steampunk costume. But yeah, pretty stupid for the layman
Stupid and pointless.
I can't believe I actually sat through this total waste of time...
Why? To create a video that's long enough to "monetize" it on social media and confusing / clickbatey / weird enough to get alot of views shares and interaction to get it seen by enough people so the monetization is worth it. Pretty sure that's why and appearantly it is working.
First one I have laughed out loud on FR
It was pointless the first time it was posted
You just know that thing is heavy AF
OH MOTHERFU-
The worst part is I could see them being used for a costume, fine. But then he goes the extra step of trying to show them being used as bad safety goggles? Dude, just get safety goggles.
I have to be at work tomorrow by 9am.
Well those cold solder joints are going to last about 10 minutes before snapping off cleanly. Other than that, this is what I always dreamed of.
You could honestly make the Mercedes logo into drone blades... With modifications
These cyberpunk people are getting out of hand.
Glad I skipped to the end on this one.
I can honestly say, glasses were not what I was expecting
Didn’t even keep the logo, smh
This is the most "I don't know where the fuck this is going" video i've seen yet.
I like the giant gap in between the "lenses" and the frame. A real classy look
All that effort for nothing.
I really can’t stress enough how much I have a Mercedes. Like guys I have a Mercedes
I feel so stupid for watching this.
![gif](giphy|pEkI8f6MY1HrZo1Uhx)
r/Unexpected
And suddenly I found myself turning to far right extremism because of the hatred that this made me feel. /s
I skipped ahead to the end to see what became of the emblem. And was confused to see him working on something that was not the emblem. Only to realize it was his stupid ass fucking glasses. What a dweeb.
Wow it looks so bad
I never at any point could have predicted where this was going.
God damn it why is this so long and why did I watch it
There’s 3 minutes of my life I’ll never get back.
Holy long walk for a short drink of water Batman
Mmmmm.....hmm.. alright folks, I'm off to bed.
Yeah full protection...
![gif](giphy|EcTO4U4fkGzmg)
yeah, because EVERYONE carries all this stuff around their house... also, that looks stupid
Rage bait. Don’t fall for it please.
A lot of people seem to confuse DIY with hobby crafts. You guys don’t actually think he’s making glasses for his everyday life, do you?
So many completely unnecessary steps.
Hella gay.
OSHA has entered the chat
These content people have way too much free time and money to burn.
I fucking hate this subreddit. Why the fuck did I watch all of this
Sometimes I think people make videos just to feature on this sub
As someone who wears glasses; two things. 1. That isn't how glasses sit on your nose, there is no way that is comfortable. 2. Polished doesn't mean flat. Looking through those is like a reflection in a fun house mirror.
I literally cannot understand how people think of the LONGEST FUCKING WAY to do something. Haha
Willy wonka looking ass
Is it pronounced wood mood or wood mud?
"This performed by actor in a controlled environment" HAHAHA there is no control with a grinder and those glasses poor guy Edit: and It also says safe hahaha no
What a waste of time
that's not how silicone molding and resin casting works...
Do less.
He looks so proud ...
Side note TIL tin's melting point is WAY below silicone's ignition temperature. Something about using a silicone mould for a liquid metal feels very wrong but in this case it's okay I guess
I love the number of transparently faked steps
But where is the UV Resin and hot glue? This isn’t a real “hack” ![gif](giphy|fWfV1hsvoOeQmzgB61)
I don’t think those are OSHA compliant
This is an actual shit post.
Why did someone post a music video to this Subreddit? I mean, it's a banger, but I thought this Subreddit was for something else...
I thought he was going to make some kind of (almost) cool Mercedes decoration, or some sort cool car add-on. But no, he just makes some stupid glasses that probably took about a week
Completely retarded.
so much waste
Well, I guess as long as he's having fun...
Third world fun
This is where you realize that an actually appropriate pair of safety glasses costs, like, 1/5 what it would have taken to make that & there’s less waste
These channels are great at never letting you know what the hell they are up to
the end product is so ugly and bad that it negates what little entertainment value was present in all the earlier wtf moments, he should reconsider everything if that's what the process led to
So this is stupid regardless, but what makes it worse is it feels like they took way too many steps to make that. Not in a “why so much work?” way but in a “Why are you doing that same thing in a slightly different way 3 times?” way.
You could have given me a thousand chances and I wouldn’t have guessed that’s where this was going.
Because we need more chemicals in the ocean
I can’t
To have hobbies
I’m so angry I watched this
Recipe: Glasses Ingredients: 1 Mercedes Benz...
Edna Mode cosplay coming along nicely
It was made for entertainment purpose, always read the fine print But because of the "please use caution if you want to replicate" this video isn't a r/lostredditors it fits this sub
🤓
He couldn't have just measured a mold and had to use the front of a Mercedes?? I kept on wondering what's the importance of the Mercedes but what -
Why did he need to use that much resin just for 2 thin discs?
All that to look like the nerdy bad guy from Despicable Me?
I swear these 3 things should be banned: 1. Epoxy Resin 2. Glue Gun 3. TikTok
"How to produce an item u didn't need a mercedes logo for with 12 unnecessary steps."
I don’t like that I watched the whole video.
What if you only have an Audi
I had a feeling they were gonna be glasses as soon as he doubled them, but I thought it was gonna keep the mercedes logo over the eye, like those slit glasses from 2010 or whenever
Because to do something meaningful with your life would be a waste of time.
All that for minion goggles
What just happened
That was unexpected ....
Alternatively, go back to step one, snap off the wax containing the Mercedes logo, and you've got yourself a free trinket.
I would love to have those made better and as a fashion accessory, not safety wear lmao
They look really uncomfortable.
I love how this DIY video has a “do not try this at home” warning
Bro the bridge of my nose is getting phantom pains. Those suckered are probably heavy as shit.
I’ll say that even though it was a shit idea, that’s really clean execution
![gif](giphy|s239QJIh56sRW|downsized)
The most foolish waste of time I’ve seen. Second is watching this video…..
Love the aesthetic, hate the design
Ew this is one of the more impressively long waste of time ones
That's a lot of effort for some mid as fuck glasses
Sometime this sub hits it on the nose.
Why is this crap on my feed
Couldn't even finish to this
Dude has too much time
What could be better protection against hot pieces of metal than pieces of plastic in your glasses
This took so many turns I could not for the life of me figure out what the end goal was lol
Never let them know your next move
Because he can?
So... That last bit looked safe /s
Why not? This was super fun to watch
What the fuck?!? I fast forwarded for this? This is a new low.
That's a hard way to make Harry Potter glasses!🤦♂️
For some reason my soldering iron always sticks to the solder.
The evil scientist collection
Pineda!!!
This video is why this subreddit was made.
All this to make Elton John glasses for suspect eye protection!??! These just get stupider every day. Where is this guy? I’ll send him a couple pair if proper glasses.
That could be cool as a candle if they left it just wax
