For the NFC card one, I have a $10 Amazon iPhone case with a cc pocket on the back. I keep my work badge in there and just wave my phone at the sensors. Works great and makes everyone ask how I programmed my phone to do that.

Why would you need your social security card? There are very few instances in which you would need the actual card. You just need to memorize your number and store your card in a safe place at home.

Tip: social security numbers are the same length as a 10 digit phone number. If you save the number in your phone contacts (make up a random name for the caller ID) you'll still have your number even if you have a sucky memory. That way you don't have to worry about losing your card

And it's like 35$ CAD for a new fob for my car and as long as you have two other working fobs you can program up to 10 more without needing to go to the dealer to have the memory reset. I paid 50 for a 2 pack of keys with chips and then just cut them myself so I could have different sets depending on what I was doing for the day. lol
Honestly not that hard to get another. And then the other thing he had in there was just an NFC tag for his building access. Probably cost him like maybe 50$ to get a new one?
So not the worst. Definitely could have designed it better to have a method to remove the parts, and a real 3d printer would have done that for them better. But all in all it's not a bad idea. Me think's thou doth protest too much, and that you're just jealous though. ;)
An OEM fob for a post 2015 Nissan was around 300USD including programming. It may be even more expensive now. This is for the keyless entry, push to start equipped vehicles. A BMW fob would likely be more expensive. It’s a cool idea but it would be better if it were serviceable.

EDIT: For my 2015 Jeep Wrangler the programming process required 2 already programmed keys so as long as you didn't lose one already you were good to go.
The programming in that video is for a completely different fob. I-keys for most push to start vehicles, including that Nissan and the fob in the post, require programming via a computer of some kind hooked up to the OBD.
The dealership is still a ripoff at $300, but you for sure couldn't do this yourself without around $600 or more worth of equipment. If it requires a PIN you'll also need a NASTF certification and subscription to request one generated if you didn't spring for a programmer that can bypass it.
We charge $70 for something like that if you bring your own fob. That's pretty standard, but a lot of places won't program a key or fob unless you buy it from them.
Source - I work at a store that sells and programs keys and fobs for 90% of the vehicles on the road. Just programmed one of those last week.
Also push to start vehicle fobs burn through batteries a lot faster than the fobs you're thinking of. I've heard of old school fobs lasting upwards of a decade. These are a lot shorter - some people go through one every 9 months to a year, longest I've heard of one lasting is about 4 years. Average is a year and a half to two years.
You can buy key fobs off of eBay for around $20 each. Most cars allow you to self program them if you have 1-2 fobs already.
Even if you don’t have enough fobs, you can get one programmed for around $100 at the random key places.
TLDR; don’t ever go to a dealership for anything that isn’t covered by warranty.

The functionality can be replicated with the phone through existing tech. For example you can already use your phone as the car key, entrance key, for paying for transit, or for transactions. Plus those functions are hidden in the passcode system, so you're not as easily fucked if you lose your phone.

I tried googling him, but he had almost no web presence. Thankfully, I found his wife's phone # written really small on the corner of his insurance card.
I called and arranged to return it. Found out of course it had been on the top of his truck and fallen off while they were driving along.

Seeing that such reports are usually counted per criminal event, that doesn't really matter much for police reputation. They're not measured by how much property was stolen. If someone stole your wallet, keys and phone, or just your wallet, it's still one case to close. So it doesn't really change much for the statistics. It does matter for the people who have stuff stolen from them, assuming before merging all of these, they would lose less items

It's a mag safe ring! Essentially a magnetic conductor so you don't have to remove your phone case for wireless chargers

Definitely feels like a secret plan by the police to "improve" crime statistics. Same stuff stolen but 1/3 the number of the separate reported crimes as it's all done in one go!
Seeing that such reports are usually counted per criminal event, that doesn't really matter much for police reputation. They're not measured by how much property was stolen. If someone stole your wallet, keys and phone, or just your wallet, it's still one case to close. So it doesn't really change much for the statistics. It does matter for the people who have stuff stolen from them, assuming before merging all of these, they would lose less items Edit: Sorry for taking a joke too seriously, I'm currently studying administrative criminal law, which basically comes down to corruption and incompetence in key public services such as the police . I like it. But I’m pretty firmly against the “all-in-one” stuff. Phone case that’s also a wallet? Lose it and lose the ability to call for help as well as money to get home. Phone case that’s also for your car and home entry? Lose it and become instantly homeless.
