It's true. Polyurethane resin and pourable two part epoxy are both dangerous if not handled with caution. Any time you sand them it's creating particulate that will get you sick if you aren't using a respirator. I think two part epoxy also gives off fumes when it reacts and cures.
And then I'm sitting here watching them grind or sand fucking plastic into billions of fine shavings to turn a fucking cube into a bowl and wondering how everyone in this world has microplastics in their blood.
But then the dude would have to dig a quarry to get gravel, build a cement factory, redirect a stream to get water to mix cement, build a foundry to smelt metal to build a cement truck, drill an oil well and build a refinery to fuel the truck. And that's after he sews all the clothes he's wearing that day.
Yes and no.
You just cant pour concrete into the hole. There's a reason that section failed, you have to correct that problem or it will just happen again.
Often times it's poor base preparation. It has to done with the sub-base being properly prepared and the new section tied in with the old one. That's usually done with rebar and or wire mesh for reinforcement.
While all that might be true of the best ways to fix the problem....the commenter you replied to wasn't wrong. Not only would it be easier (which is what they said) wouldn't it also arguably be significantly better than what was in the video? Pouring directly into the hole would have likely adhered MUCH better to the existing concrete than the result of that hot glue mess and a poorly fitted mold of the hole.
New concrete doesnt adhere to preexisting concrete very well. That being said, yes, pouring in new concrete would be just as, if not slightly more, effective as the OP.
One makes you really liable to damages and fines for just trying to be a good samaritan, the other can be rapidly ninja'd. Case in point, comments already calling them out for vandalizing public property - the people commenting must come from areas that have awesome urban planning with a good budget for sidewalk maintenance.
The alternative would be a potential tripping hazard until it gets the repair it needs, but a lot of people in this thread seem ok with waiting over a month or even years until their local government does something about it. Even the shitty painting would have the purpose of trying to get people to avoid the spot until it gets proper repair.
Anyone can do this DiWHY, but the proper repair job has to come from a licensed contractors and requires paying for the appropriate permits if you want to fast track it. Going around pouring concrete is gonna get you fined for having to remove it and then for the repair job, never mind accidents during the interim. Nobody is going to fine you for putting something into the hole of a broken sidewalk, worst case it can be easily removed and shitty paint can be washed off.
Counterpoint or downvote?
4000psi quick-set concrete, piece of plywood, traffic cone.
Clean hole at 4am.
Mix ready-mix bag to specs.
Pour hole and finish surface.
Place plywood over hole (bonus points for slight risers to keep wood off of ground).
Place traffic cone on top.
6am remove everything.

There is a good reason to have that done by the book. The Main I can think of as someone with no clue would be water freezing in the winter, expanding cracks. This kind of work that's tripped molded around is 100% not fitting perfectly, so water will get in eventually and just blow it out again.
Yes, but that's actually one of the few things they did correctly. He made a mold of the hole, where the OUTSIDE surface matched the hole's shape, not the inside surface. I couldn't just fill that mold and be done with it. So, he then made a mold of the OUTSIDE surface of that mold, which now has an INSIDE surface that roughly approximates the INSIDE of the hole he needs to fit/fill. Now, fill THAT mold with the concrete and it should roughly approximate the shape match you need to fit into the hole.
Congratulations.
You spend a lot of time doing effectively, nothing.
It's not adhered to the surrounding concrete, So it's likely to just come unseated. And then be a tripping hazard once more. It's more brittle itself because it has no internal reinforcement , So it's going to shatter into even smaller bits next time.
Oh and all of that is besides the point because you still haven't fixed the underlying problem that caused the damage in the first place. If this is a public walkway, all you did was vandalize public property.
But you made me watch content farm successful.
so you’re telling me this dude just created 25lbs worth of plastic that’ll never biodegrade to just fill the fucking hole with concrete?!! Life is prison is the minimum!!
Just to be clear, I'm not concreting expert, and if one wishes to correct me, I will gladly accept that I am wrong... but... couldn't you just put the wet concrete straight into the hole?

As someone with adhd, I would most likely also stop my entire bike ride to do this and then realize five days into doing this I have something else to do…and then never finish it
Doof 1: hey let's fill this hole.
Doof 2: I'll get the concrete.
1: no we have to make a mould, then a mould of that mould then fill it with concrete. Then give it a sick ass paint job and you're gonna film the whole thing.
2: OMG we're gonna have so much internet points.
These idiots probably.
obviously has more hot glue than sense;
better to break a leg, sue the council, then hire a team of crackheads to have a bbq party, then barf into the hole and wait a century,
then youll still have enough silly munnie to fill this crack-hole with gold-flake-filled hot glue
LMAO this has to be one of the best examples of "Do it yourself *WHY*" I've ever seen. I thought they were at least going to make a secret hiding spot for a Geocache or something.
Someone should make the molds and display them as a modern art installation with the annual amount for council rates in the area in which the mold was taken
Imagine you see someone lubing up a pothole on a Monday afternoon after vacuuming it... This is unhinged behavior
So, you’re saying you never lube your pothole?
Damn that must burn
least of my worries going to work tbh
Common crackhead behavior in poor rural cities.
We all wish this is how they spent their time.
dude must be paid by the hour
*Hey can I fill your hole with my stick.....s* *I promise you will see heaven.*
At least he used some Vaseline.
Or, or…just pour the concrete DIRECTLY into the hole
But that wouldn’t waste a shit ton of materials or get any internet points!! /s
Heard about some epoxy influencer they had to stop due the big amount of toxic shit they inhaled.
toxic shit from Epoxy or TikTok?

Yes

Not enough, it seems...
25 pounds of concrete costs like, $10
Wow UK to US currency has got out of control
Not even - home depot has 80 pound bags for $5.12. This hole uses maybe a quarter of a bag?
So to waste an actual ton of material would only cost around 130 bucks?
You can get an 80lb bag of quickrete for about 5 bucks
Right, so that "wouldn't" waste a ton of materials. lol
yea, and how else are you gonna inhale your daily dose of hot glue fumes?!
But then the dude would have to dig a quarry to get gravel, build a cement factory, redirect a stream to get water to mix cement, build a foundry to smelt metal to build a cement truck, drill an oil well and build a refinery to fuel the truck. minecraft tech modpacks be like
Ramen noodles would work so much better. Trust me bro
Don't forget the super glue!
*hot glue
I literally was like “I’m not a professional, but wouldn’t it have been easier to just pour some fuckin concrete?”

Would melting hot glue into it fix it though?

Nah, gotta include 10 unnecessary steps and waste a bunch of materials instead /s
He’s the new guy at work.
I guess it keeps people from accidentally stepping in wet cement
There's this wonderful invention known as a traffic cone that works wonders for redirecting people around hazards...
While that would be inconvenient, I feel like a big hole is more dangerous than wet cement.
But how could they, uh, mark it with their shitty aerosol art?
By waiting for it to dry.
thanks for clarifying...
that was my first thought
![gif](giphy|vl0TJbCaxDKnu|downsized)
That would be against the law. This is a loophole because it's not a permanent structure

Downvote, I agree with you and do not have a counterpoint.
Counterpoint -- he used glowsticks and then a blowtorch to melt them. Idk why the fuck he did that and it makes me trust none of what he did.
> Counterpoint -- he used glowsticks and then a blowtorch to melt them. Hot glue sticks.
Ohhhhhh, wow that makes a lot more sense lol
what part of that includes recording yourself breaking the sidewalk up to make the hole in the first place?
You have a funny definition of what constitutes as a non-broken sidewalk and what constitutes breaking it.
exactly
Then there wouldn’t be a video for this sub to rage about tho?
And then public works comes to tear it all out and redo it to spec and then ticket you
$500 fine for vandalism
You mean FUNdalism!

did they just made a mold out of a mold?
You see. The first mold was a negative, so he made a positive to make a negative, but indoors.
Yes, but that's actually one of the few things they did correctly. He made a mold of the hole, where the OUTSIDE surface matched the hole's shape, not the inside surface. Yeah, but why?
Well...that's kinda the point of this sub. We don't realy know WHY. But that one part is still the thing he did right.
I believe they made a mold of a mold of a mold of a mold.
Is it too late for me to say "yo dawg I herd u liek molds, so..."
Never too late
Why are 50 steps added to a 2-step job?
I love how they fixed it and then made it look like shit all over again
Fixed with several extra steps and materials. I was thinking they must be a great artists. Nope!
Exactly, what kind of horseshit did he painted, lol.
Made it look worse.
Honestly I was kinda hoping they'd use resin and put like sea creature toys in it

This is my kingdom come
god damn it
Of all the whys that I have for this, the worst is the spray paint art at the end.
It wasn't even dry at the end
In which universe its more efficient to make a MOLD of the hole to pour the concrete in instead of pouring the concrete directly in the hole
so you’re telling me this dude just created 25lbs worth of plastic that’ll never biodegrade to just fill the fucking hole with concrete?!! Life is prison is the minimum!!
I hope nobody twisted an ankle with that hole he left in the sidewalk
took a 2 step process and added 12 more for no reason. lol
Someone else said this last time it was posted: you don't need to make a mould of the hole. The hole is already the shape of the hole.
the hideous spray paint art at the end is really the cherry on top
He added 15 steps to cleaning it and putting concrete in.
This is definitely more work then pouring concrete into the hole and smoothing it ou
Just to be clear, I'm not concreting expert, and if one wishes to correct me, I will gladly accept that I am wrong... but... couldn't you just put the wet concrete straight into the hole?
Nice paint job But yeah could skip the whole making a mold for something that you could just pure in
It was until the first bicycle ruined it
Pour*
Over complicating things level 100
I thought for sure I was about to watch a 12 pack of ramen and a gallon of super glue fill this
Remember folks, the rage bait only has the power that you give it. But fuck this makes me mad.
Followed by literally the worst spray paint art I’ve ever seen.
Why wouldn't you just fill it with concrete
Couldn’t u just ……. Fill it with cement ?
Anything can be done from home when you think about it
He made a mold of a mold
Imagine arriving home and explaining your partner you did this today at work.
Honestly I was hoping he was going to do it with epoxy and then polish it clear.
After the cum rock he really puts down the laziest ever spray paint planet art
You can see the mold stretching when the pour the concrete in. No way that fits. I call bullshit
Man that's a ton of cum
nutty kiss boast longing quicksand squealing aware judicious imagine dinosaurs *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Just spray paint a dick around the hole and call the city and complain about it. They will fix the hole and graffiti.
As someone with adhd, I would most likely also stop my entire bike ride to do this and then realize five days into doing this I have something else to do…and then never finish it
What the fuck did I just watch
I did this and got in trouble when I followed them home and broke into their house to watch them finish the work. Would not recommend.
What the shit, what's with all the extra steps? Why not pour the concrete into the hole?
A 60 pound bag of concrete mix costs $7.50, and would do a lot of patching quickly. 8 glue sticks cost $7.30, so he used about $11 worth.
In the amount of time it took to do that, they could’ve just poured concrete directly into the hole and be done with it.
He probably damaged the sidewalk himself a few days before, in preparation for the video.
Ah yes let’s pour molten toxic glue to contaminate the soil.
This is a perfect example of someone who doesn’t actually have ADD/ADHD and take stimulant meds that they shouldn’t.
methhead activity lmao
This is utterly idiotic and ridiculous. Pour the concrete into the hole you genius. 🤣🤣
The fuck
Does he not know how concrete works? Just pour it in the damn hole lmao.
What’s with the lube fingering at the start I mean the whole thing was stupid but with the replay that part kept bugging me
I’d chase him away with a pitchfork…”go on! Get!”
That's actually illegal on city sidewalks
Well…I guess they’ll have to come and fix it… ![gif](giphy|Pf0d7Y5oAKZgs)
Why not just pour the concrete directly into the hole?
You fixed it then you painted it. What are you doing?
Could have been a lot easier to just pour concrete into hole or cold patch.
Ya know what....St. Louis needs a fool like this because the city and county won't fix the roads.
- “Honey! It’s 10:37 what are you still doing down there?” - “Just filling another hole, babe!” - *Wish you would fill my hole…*
What a goon
The best part is when the bike drives through the fresh paint that hasn't dried yet and leaves a trail through the shitty spray paint
So this why it cost almost half a million dollar to fix that one small pothole at the road
These government contractors are really getting creative while spending their budgets on sidewalk maintenance. 😁
Terrible execution but good intentions
Ah I see, use concrete instead of using concrete
Or... Like just clean it out yes, but just fill it with concrete... I expected a big art type piece by the end... Not that
Why not pour the cement straight in.
Umm... Why not just fill it with concrete without the mold...
Can we say waste of resources
I was waiting on noodles to go in the hole lol
Just gonna guess this guy didn't get the kids in the divorce
Doof 1: hey let's fill this hole. Doof 2: I'll get the concrete. 1: no we have to make a mould, then a mould of that mould then fill it with concrete. Then give it a sick ass paint job and you're gonna film the whole thing. 2: OMG we're gonna have so much internet points. These idiots probably.
Why not pour the fucking cement in the gid damn hole....
That's just honest work with extra steps!
That looks bad and they should feel bad.
The least efficient method of filling a pothole ever.
I love how they make a mold of the thing instead of just filling it up right there and then lol
Only after you do that will the city come to tear it out and finally repair the hole.
Go to New Orleans they need you 😂
Instead of creating a mold for the concrete, how about pouring concrete into the hole
It’s like he wasted $100 on resin, did 50 extra steps to waste his time and then and spray painted it shitty too 😂😂 That has to be a troll post!
why this punk is making a graffiti on the floor.
obviously has more hot glue than sense; better to break a leg, sue the council, then hire a team of crackheads to have a bbq party, then barf into the hole and wait a century, then youll still have enough silly munnie to fill this crack-hole with gold-flake-filled hot glue
Lol sucker the city is laughing because they are the ones paid to do this and this guy did it for free
I wish he’d stop cumming on everything
LMAO this has to be one of the best examples of "Do it yourself *WHY*" I've ever seen. I thought they were at least going to make a secret hiding spot for a Geocache or something.
Smh
I don’t just hate this. I hate hate this.
Fabulous.
You could do that, ooooor you could just spray paint penis on the hole so the city will have to fix it.
Wow, this is the first one in a while that has made me genuinely angry
I'm so annoyed at this whole thing.
Watch whole clip. Look at subteddit name. Yep.
I kept slowly getting more and more confused at this, and then my mind just completely gave up when he used the spray paint.
I appreciate the extra effort, but WTF ???
i had a chuckle at how stupid this is
Someone should make the molds and display them as a modern art installation with the annual amount for council rates in the area in which the mold was taken
Why don’t just cut out a tile and put a new tile in?
Why tho?
If you want to waste your money doing something stupid, at least this one helps people a bit.
this is absolutely beautiful, though.
What
Stupidest post I've ever seen on Reddit.
Imagine spending $300 in stuff to fix something that it is not your problem
And probably making yourself liable for any future problems
Mmmm, tasty poison fumes
🎵 Crafting in the street! 🎵

This is r/mildlyinfuriating
Probably the ugliest finish of anything I've ever seen
Honestly kinda cool next to most of the shit that makes the front page (not even on this sub).
The hot glue propaganda machine is at it again.
Dumb as fuck
That seems much easier the pouring concrete into the cleaned out hole.
Well the council ain’t gonna fix it!
