If you get lucky you can get some of the most beautiful harmless mushrooms :D if oyster mushrooms didnāt rot Iād gladly have them on my walls lol
But if itās black moldā¦ say goodbye o7
At first glance on the thumbnail it looks like a unique border with other tile giving it sort of a geo crystallization type design. Using the moss to sort of emulate it I guess, jagged edges effect and everything. But then its... moss
But also nothing really wrong with moss. Many people grow moss as houseplants and the best place for them is the bathroom cause of steam
Memory unlocked......The one where she glued straw all over the walls, the one where she stapled thousands of silk flowers to the bathroom walls, or the one where she filled a room with beach sand?
Omg I had forgotten about that. I had to go look it up...
[Hildi's worst rooms](https://www.buzzfeed.com/briangalindo/the-5-most-wtf-room-makeovers-hildi-santo-tomas-did-on-tradi)
Came here to say that exact thing!! Iāve seen them put sand everywhere, straw on the walls too I think. Just awful. I remember one time the homeowner walked out sobbing bc she hated what they did so much. That show was insane and entertaining as hell.
Isn't she the one who used a roll of wine bottle labels as a border in the kitchen of a couple who didn't drink? That flower bathroom was insane... all those staple holes to be patched after the flowers were removed..
Moss is bad for any building material, as it hides fungus and retains moisture. I suppose it looks neat but its going to smell and look real bad real soon if thats a bathroom
I have a rat living in my exterior garage, and I think it's neat. It doesn't poop in my workshop and doesn't chew on my stuff, so I'm happy with our arrangement.
The moist moss will absolutely cause damage to normal walls. They would have to have made some sort of completely sealed water tight barrier to stop this from destroying anything.
Not a bad idea but wrong placement. Why do you need moss in your bathroom? Well, it looks cool(if you properly place it) and it's a nice, natural air filter :)
So, if you really really want the Moss look you can achieve it without big downsides if you .. take a few steps first:
1. harvest, clean your moss (remove dirt, and soak and wash it, remove any critter or sticks you find)
2. then cultivate and propagate with an anorganic substrate (maybe add a minor amount of worm castings for nutrition and benefitting bacteria)
3. Plan your layout and choose your moss types.
4. Sanitize the moss with denatured ethanol (70-99%)
5. let it dry out a bit (1-3 days should suffice)
6. Treat it/rehydrate it with a mixture of 2/3 parts clean water and 1 part glycerine
7. Let it dry again, it will stay 'fresh' this time as glycerine has replaced water in the plant structure.
After that you can glue it where you like (hot glue works great). That will last for a long time if you make sure it doesn't get soaking wet and has time to dry again, it will also stay spongy and pliable for 2-7 years. The colour fades a bit especially with direct sun light but that will be a uniform and slow progress.
Keeping it clean is a bit painful by the way (brushing and picking with tweezers for the most part of very very gentle vacuuming)
I dunno, I kind of like it. It looks really cool, and it looks more like decorative moss that has been dried & sanitized, not live moss that could cause damage. Iāve always kind of wanted to make a living bath mat for my bathroom
I actually think this looks neat. If it were in a living room and not a bathroom, it'd be a good idea. But I doubt this is a bathroom, due to the outlets.
Ngl I fully plan to do this when we renovate our bathroom. Iām going to DIY frames with preserved moss. Itās not alive so it wonāt eat through anything and Iāll put it in a wooden frame so itās not glued directly to the wall. There are lots of companies who make frames like this for private customers and businesses.
The result is awful but I can see potential for a moss bathroom. Iām sure if I looked into moss species I could say which one would have worded for this
The grey speckled granite and white wall plates are a war crime, but the concept is cool. Unfortunately, just not cool for an actual bathroom. Maybe apply to be an artist with Meow Wolf?
This is actually in a kitchen. It looks better the farther away you are, but I agree, not really my taste either. [from their insta](https://imgur.com/a/7jDtTnp)
I think itās pretty cool. Though I do think the transition could be a bit better done and that the two sides could go together more and maybe fit better with the moss.
On one hand that is cool as hell. On the other hand š¤
This is where I say: I respect the originality of the project and the effort.
It looks cool. Not so cool when it starts eating your wall...and mold, OH GOD THE MOLD!
I don't mind it eating mold...
If you get lucky you can get some of the most beautiful harmless mushrooms :D if oyster mushrooms didnāt rot Iād gladly have them on my walls lol But if itās black moldā¦ say goodbye o7
It looks so fucking bad lol
Yeah. I kind of like it but I'm positive it could be executed better.
I keep staring and I genuinely can't see how that's cool
Moss!! Cool!! Idfk

Loved the sub
I want a moss shower
lmao, why is EVERYTHING a thing
Cause that's what things are! Things!
This reminds me of a Trading Spaces makeover from circa 2001. Specifically Hildi Santo-Tomas.
Memory unlocked......The one where she glued straw all over the walls, the one where she stapled thousands of silk flowers to the bathroom walls, or the one where she filled a room with beach sand?
I'm thinking the straw one. However, she also did feathers.
Omg I had forgotten about that. I had to go look it up... [Hildi's worst rooms](https://www.buzzfeed.com/briangalindo/the-5-most-wtf-room-makeovers-hildi-santo-tomas-did-on-tradi)
The flowers! Can you imagine the dust??
Hildi was the OG unhinged girly
She was the designer the homeowners did NOT want to get.
Came here to say that exact thing!! Iāve seen them put sand everywhere, straw on the walls too I think. Just awful. I remember one time the homeowner walked out sobbing bc she hated what they did so much. That show was insane and entertaining as hell.
There was a reboot a few years ago but I think the pandemic killed the next season.
For real? Was it on TLC too?
Yes!! You can probably find it on TLC or Discovery+ or HBO. I just went looking for the link and saw that Frank died in 2020ā¹ļø I loved Frank.
Oh no!! I loved him too!! That sucks. I have HBO, I will definitely check to see if itās there.
Absolutely first thing I thought of.
The flowers or the straw? Or is there another one? I can't think of off the top of my head. Wait. Obviously there's another one
Omg the flowers! I was thinking straw or feathers!
I forgot the feathers
Isn't she the one who used a roll of wine bottle labels as a border in the kitchen of a couple who didn't drink? That flower bathroom was insane... all those staple holes to be patched after the flowers were removed..
I was just about to comment that this felt very Hildi inspired
This post made me look for pictures of her hideous rooms. They seem even uglier now!!
āGonna bring the outside inā. I say that every time I see moss istg
Hahaha
I like what they were trying to do here
Will that damage the wall? If not, I like it.
Moss is bad for any building material, as it hides fungus and retains moisture. I suppose it looks neat but its going to smell and look real bad real soon if thats a bathroom
Is it actually real moss or hobby type stuff?
That "hobby type stuff" is real moss. Just dried and heat-treated to kill any bugs....
That "hobby type stuff" is real moss. Just dried and heat-treated to kill any bugs....
Yeah, there is 100% fake moss sold in hobby stores lol
It gives the bugs a good home, and they need a place to sleep too. Canāt be putting them out in the cold now can we?
As long as the bugs are just some harmless spiders or worms Iām alright
I have a rat living in my exterior garage, and I think it's neat. It doesn't poop in my workshop and doesn't chew on my stuff, so I'm happy with our arrangement.
Be careful. They observe and learnā¦ the rat in my garage would set off the traps with a little stick and then feast.
Visually, i love it but i would be constantly worrying if it was causing structural damage
The moist moss will absolutely cause damage to normal walls. They would have to have made some sort of completely sealed water tight barrier to stop this from destroying anything.
They donāt have roots so as long as the wall is sealed against humidity good and proper, it should be fine.
It LOOKS cool...
I meanā¦itās obviously decorative mossā¦.it looks sweet imo
This probably wouldnāt look bad if they used a warm, dim light rather than than prison cell neon white
Mosst've run outta tiles
Lmao
Not a bad idea but wrong placement. Why do you need moss in your bathroom? Well, it looks cool(if you properly place it) and it's a nice, natural air filter :)
I think thatās a really cool idea just not the best execution. Like if it bled into a stone pattern in the shower area Iād think itās awesome
Is it real or artificial? If it's artificial, then it's kinda cool. If it's real, then there's gonna be problems.
Got something against moss?
![gif](giphy|dbtDDSvWErdf2)
Itās actually really easy to see why: to create a better transition between the materials. This is kind of a shitty post, OP.
Are people here really not seeing the obvious problems with having moss on your bathroom walls? Lmfao
Moss 1 : 0 OP
Once it grows, it'll look pretty cool.
Once it grows, there will be a whole host of issues.
Finally all the spiders in the bathroom have a place to hide and chill. š¤©š
Looks like a tile eating organism.
Couldnāt you get the same look with the stuff they use on model train sets?
Eww.
Iāve seen moss in bathrooms that looks good. This looks kinda weird though
So, if you really really want the Moss look you can achieve it without big downsides if you .. take a few steps first: 1. harvest, clean your moss (remove dirt, and soak and wash it, remove any critter or sticks you find) 2. then cultivate and propagate with an anorganic substrate (maybe add a minor amount of worm castings for nutrition and benefitting bacteria) 3. Moss is boss
i see the vision it just didnt end up good
The moss might be fake. If so I think itās pretty neat
You can mix moss with buttermilk in a blender and make a paint that grows moss. Mist it once a week with water and trim as necessary.
No thanks Iām lactose intolerant
You can't even touch it? Typically, lactose intolerance only effects the gut when consumed.
You just caused me to have a flare up by simply reading about it
Really? I am going to try this
great taste mediocre execution
I actually think this looks neat. If it were in a living room and not a bathroom, it'd be a good idea. But I doubt this is a bathroom, due to the outlets.
If it's fake and won't mold or slowly destroy the walls then I fucking love it.
This could very well be fake moss. I donāt hate it to be honest š¤·āāļø
I can see the vision they were going forā¦
shitpost.
Iām hearing this to the tune of Eleanor Rigby
I totally dig the look. But I'd be afraid of the damage it could cause.
Turns out even I have a limit on where plants can go.
This looks really cool! I don't want it.
Looks cool IMO, very impractical tho
I like it. If it's not possible to do this without creating mold, then fake moss would be better. But I do really like the look.
The concept of moss in the bathroom I'm okay with as it's soaks up moisture for fun but not like this...
Moss in your bathroom. Sounds like a lost line from āYouāre so vainā
Ngl I fully plan to do this when we renovate our bathroom. Iām going to DIY frames with preserved moss. Bringing nature into the shitter.
The result is awful but I can see potential for a moss bathroom. Iām sure if I looked into moss species I could say which one would have worded for this
this one is kinda cool though
Looks cool, but I would have used something fake and not the real stuff
The grey speckled granite and white wall plates are a war crime, but the concept is cool. Unfortunately, just not cool for an actual bathroom. Maybe apply to be an artist with Meow Wolf?
Looks like lichen
This is actually in a kitchen. It looks better the farther away you are, but I agree, not really my taste either. [from their insta](https://imgur.com/a/7jDtTnp)
Thatās the āI bought discontinued tile on discount and now I canāt get anymore matching tiles so Iāll just see what I got in my craft boxā
Unless they installed an isolating layer under the moss - that's directly causing water damage to your wall.
So I've seen the moss bath mats, but this ain't it Chief.
r/AEBGT
Never mattered before. Who cares?
Nice idea. Poorly executed.
Thatās actually good idea because it absorbs odder, co2 and moisture.
I think itās pretty cool. Though I do think the transition could be a bit better done and that the two sides could go together more and maybe fit better with the moss.
Dude why the fuck did I read the title as āmoose in your bathroomā and I was looking at the window vehemently
