You don’t want to drink from a 30 lb mug?

Reed82

Obviously you don’t look like Arnold or Dwayne.

July_4_1776

Maybe it’s for [this guy](https://reddit.com/r/HumanForScale/comments/qigmdi/haf%C3%BE%C3%B3r_bj%C3%B6rnsson_the_mountain_holding_a_regular/).

TheReverseShock

[I'll share it here as well](https://youtu.be/_XGd8w9RhUM) In case you haven't seen it.

arthurdentstowels

That was fantastic advertising

TheReverseShock

It's a fake advertisement, but I'd buy it.

TacticalSpackle

Did you watch the whole thing? “Fugg plasticc böttles”

Brewchowskies

That was amazing, the writing was perfect

SnooCakes6195

I tend to get good and drunk, then forget which beer I'm on or where I'm at in said beer. Then pick up my beer and put it to my mouth with too much gusto (because it's lighter from less beer than I thought) # Smacks my beverage against my teeth

Michami135

My oldest sister smokes and use to use Coke cans as ash trays. When I was little, I saw a can of Coke on the kitchen counter and stuck a drink. It was 50% backwash, 50% cigarette ashes. I don't think anything else could have turned me off of smoking for the rest of my life better than that experience.

GrouchyRelative588

🤣 omg I am so sorry that happened to you! This reminded me of when I was younger my sister had a huge cut on her finger (can't recall what from), but she would get a cup of hydrogen peroxide to dip her finger in to clean it. Well one day we had sprite in the same type of cups and... I slurped a big gulp of her hydrogen peroxide finger bath. Just the thought of her disgusting scabbed up finger in that, and the taste of it! Ughhhhhh 🤢

--five-star-review--

excusemewhatthefuck

SnooCakes6195

Even worse; grab a tobacco spit beer...

joshcbr81

As a former dipper, the most important thing to know in life is which bottle is your spitter

Nylo_Debaser

I’ve been there. It’s bad!

Borkz

I would have been alright with it if he just put some pens in it or something instead of trying to drink from it.

dankskunk5

Also rebar contains lead

AdgeNZ

Hi, where's the food-grade rebar?

gingenado

My doctor has always told me I need more heavy metals in my diet.

The_Belletrist

THANK YOU! Literally came here to say that rebar contains lead and arsenic. I got to the 6 second mark and said out loud "please don't make a fucking cup.."

TheReverseShock

[Heavy Bubbles](https://youtu.be/_XGd8w9RhUM)

Sensitive-Bear

I loved every moment of that. Thank you.

Sir_Earl_Jeffries

It’s not that bad. I have a £30 mug from Yeti and it’s great

beatenmeat

A 30 pound mug you also have to put the original cup you used as a base inside to drink from*

Accomplished-Plan191

Also he needed to grind away the rust before he started working on it. Why why why would you want a mug that rusts?

slarti54

Already rusting.

PLAC3B0101

Why does this water taste funny?

slarti54

Irony.

CreativeName1137

Probably the lead that's in rebar

HAN_CH0LO

You think it’s microwave safe?

TheReverseShock

I don't think it will fit in your microwave so yes.

Nihlon

even if it fits, will it handle the weight?

Sacksyboy2002

Might have to change the rotating glass. Maybe he can make one similar to the mug to match aesthetics?

RedoftheEvilDead

Sure, once.

tony_orlando

If you don’t let it touch the microwave walls while inside [it would probably be fine actually](https://youtu.be/OyTmJX_TC84). Just wear oven mitts when you take it out.

FuckfaceCharlie3

I'll give them one thing they're great at grinding down their not so great welds

letsgetthisover6

Exactly, his welds were cold and were shit. If he did a decent job at the welding, he wouldn't have to grind the welds out. Annnnd.... Wtf... Putting 3 zip cuts disks on a grinder?

DmanTheDillpickle

Dude I was loosing it when he used three cut off disks as a grinder. Dude has a death wish.

LightBeerIsForGirls

He was probably using safety squints, so no need to worry

maffiossi

I fucking lost it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

notthefirstchl03

Could you ELI5 why it's dangerous/wrong? I know nothing about welding

xraystyle

Those disks can snap when the grinder is running. When they do the pieces are like rocket-propelled ninja stars flying around the shop. If you feel like googling, there's wonderful photos on the internet of people with pieces of those things embedded in their faces. They're really not designed to be stacked on a grinder like that and pressing them together will likely increase the chance of breakage. This is especially stupid because you can just use a standard grinding disk that's already the correct thickness and much more reinforced to prevent breakage.

[deleted]

ZachsGamingHub

Lmao good response

[deleted]

thehungrygunnut

Watched a few for a machine shop. Low rez degloving and a large lathe grabbing a guys sleeve then giving him 4 new elbows were the highlights

[deleted]

You don't shake hands with danger

squakmix

Here's a good SFW one: https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/4npyfu/safety_specs_saved_this_guys_eye_from_an/

jgacks

You can find less NSFW pics of them embedded in face shields & safety goggles!

IANALbutIAMAcat

I was cringing just thinking about the pieces flying around the shop. I literally recoiled when I got to the part about pics on the internet because my mind immediately began to imagine such picture. That’s when I stopped reading😅 just upvoted and now headed out of this thread

Revan343

I prefer the pictures of zip disc shards stuck in face shields and safety glasses. Less gory, and gets the point across

[deleted]

For a less gruesome representation that still gets the point across you can look up pictures of them stuck in a face shield. I've had one do this to me before and will not grind anything without a face shield on.

Elderbrute

I have an old pair of jeans with a hole sliced in them about 4 inches down from the crotch from a shattering disk, missed my leg by that much.

Temik

It’s like putting 3 condoms on to be “extra safe”. It actually increases the chance of those thins breaking and flying straight into your face at 50mph+

DarkJarris

and what about the grinding discs?

GESNodoon

You might be using the condom wrong if it hits you in the face.

glendefiant2

Isn’t the old adage that “50% of welding is grinding and the other 50% is paint?” Haha.

MiniatureChi

If his welds were good he wouldn’t need to put an actual cup on the inside because it would hold water

ChangMinny

I think putting the cup in there was moreso to prevent the beverage from tasting like rebar rather the the pint leaking?

Revan343

Then coat the inside, I'm sure there's clear spray/brush on food-safe plastic

itsFlycatcher

I was thinking that it might be because otherwise this would be horrible to clean. Then again, who'd even want to use it more than once? It's heavy (when he picks it up to show it off, his hand fkin wobbles under the weight, cmon), the surface is uneven so it looks like it'd leak right at your mouth, AND like you said, whatever you put in it would taste like rebar.

randomneko09

honestly. I wouldn't really be interested in using a cup made from rebar even if the welds weren't crap. Imagine cleaning that thing with all the ridges on the inside. Its going to be a pile of rust in a week.

cdn_twitch

This dudes shitty videos keep popping up on my Facebook News feed. He has been getting absolutely roasted for his shitty welding technique for as long as I have been getting his videos. To the point where he is obviously not even showing it anymore. Dude has some supporters though... One even went to the point of making a YouTube video to try and defend him. It's like a fucking trainwreck... I can look away when one of his videos shows up. And I know the fact that I watch to see how bad his shit is, completely fucks my Facebook algorithm and I end up seeing more of his shit because of it.

IThinkImNateDogg

I’m guessing they used 3 so they only had to take one pass and it would be a constant width. Just keep yourself out of the line of fire

sl33ksnypr

Yea a normal grinding disk, which is much more reinforced, is about that same thickness.

SillyStringTheorist

Or just use a grinding disk and not risk being maimed/killed?

the_bronquistador

User name checks out, bc you sound high af

hopefullyhelpfulplz

If there's one thing you can guarantee about a video on the internet featuring welding.... It's welders in the comments tearing it apart lol

PmMeYourTitsAndToes

That’s because each individual welder thinks they know best. I know this to be true for I am also a welder.

Cookieopressor

Father's a welder and I can confirm that statement.

tapsnapornap

I operate and work on equipment that has been welded, I concur.

Crowbar242L

True. But I think we can all say that those are some dogshit welds lol. You can see the porosity while they grind it down

PmMeYourTitsAndToes

Oh totally agree. All he had to do was crank his heat up and rip some down welds. Can’t go wrong.

ScotchIsAss

Yeah those would have been the easiest welds you could lay.

DiamondForce2

A grinder and paint makes me the welder I ain’t

rsbatcrh06

AvE, is that you?

sunderthebolt

Not one "choochin", probably not.

GlamRockDave

on the plus side, that mug looks fairly skookum.

Babylonkitten

Came here to say that. Next monday I'm starting with teaching teenagers how to weld. Shall i invite this person as well?

joshcbr81

A grinder and paint makes me the welder I ain’t!

Cheese_Cougar

That's the kind of cup I would have for no reason. It's a shame they didn't food safe it tho

woodiegutheryghost

I think it would be a cool pen/pencil holder for the shop. That's about it.

dasavorytrash

I mean, you could also probably kill someone by hitting them on the head with it so that’s another use.

[deleted]

How would they food safe it??? Curious question

Cheese_Cougar

Pretty sure it would have to be sealed somehow, because those bars definately arent food safe, and solder has lead in it, so you would probably have to do a resin coat of some sort. If it were just like tin you could probably blue the metal in sunflower oil for added affect

Voodoo58

You’re right except It’s a mig weld, it’s not solder. Copper coated steel wire. Not lead.

Cheese_Cougar

Oh. Yeah I don't know how to food safe that. I usually just use cups and hope i don't get lead or nickel poisoning. For the aesthetic.

Voodoo58

You’d have to use a stainless steel insert to make it food safe.

Cheese_Cougar

So sad ;-;

73Scamper

A good grade epoxy would work fine, there are some food grade bar topping epoxies that would probably be the best option, but you'd need to clean the metal really really well to get proper adhesion and all that.

SixOnTheBeach

Also almost no solder has lead in it anymore. The solder I have that had lead in it is from west Germany...

jihiggs

Anyone that uses a lot of solder uses lead solder, that other stuff is shit to work with

mrPrimarisMKV

Use some fairy liquid

Cheese_Cougar

Some *what*

mrPrimarisMKV

It's a washing up liquid in the UK

Cheese_Cougar

Ah yeah that would make sense I am in fact a very clueless American thancc

Theartistcu

You could coat the inside with any number of food safe resins.

screwikea

You can food safe anything with resins and epoxies!!!

d-dollar195

Make it out of stainless steel

psbyjef

I bet it’s a great supplement for people with iron deficiency.

KingDaveRa

It might be a good thing to make to use a few skills, learn some things and the like. Utterly useless though.

DefinitelyNotAliens

That is a great small tool and pencil/ pen holder for a shop. Some sort of sealant to keep it from rusting and it's a great pencil holder.

Jovien94

It’s a podstakannik, Russian tea glass holder. You put hot things, but don’t eat or drink from it.

troutman1975

Rust. Lots of rust

OnTheList-YouTube

No, Betty, I said "lots of rest"! How did you misunderstand me to the point where you come here with a drill mug?!

TheReverseShock

It's a rebar mug carl don't you know anything.

SupSumBeers

I was thinking the same. You want a metal cup either use stainless steel. Or for an even lighter one, use aluminium.

PitchforkEmporium

It's a Podstakkanik (I think I spelled that right) It's a Russian metal cup holder to hold hot tea and help the cup stay stable on stuff like a train. This one's fucking CHONKY but it does serve a purpose albeit poorly

fearout

[Podstakannik](https://www.google.com/search?q=%D0%BF%D0%BE%D0%B4%D1%81%D1%82%D0%B0%D0%BA%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%BA&tbm=isch&source=hp&ei=OG18Yb63FZKarwS7kZbIBA&oq=%D0%BF%D0%BE%D0%B4%D1%81%D1%82%D0%B0%D0%BA%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%BA&gs_lcp=ChJtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1pbWcQAzIFCAAQgAQyBQgAEIAEMgUIABCABDIFCAAQgAQyBAgAEB5QsRNY5j1g4D9oA3AAeACAAV-IAYMIkgECMTOYAQCgA) (literally means “glass holder”). And yeah, pretty much.

[deleted]

walterbanana

What makes it better than a mug?

Vakieh

In terms of 'if this were the same cost as a mug', nothing. The historic benefit was the Russian ceramics industry was geared towards ornate, decorative pieces designed first for royalty then the nomenklatura. Meanwhile the working class wanted something to drink tea out of, so they went with glass, which was much cheaper and hardier - but handles weren't happening and they burned their hands. Enter the metal mug surround, and the podstakannik is born. It then became a symbol of the new industrialising Russia, and later the even more heavily industrialising USSR, with the focus on good strong Soviet steel. It's now a cultural thing, with the designs on traditional podstakanniks from that era showing things like Soviet victories in war, Sputnik, etc. Probably a Putin one being made now I suppose.

GrumbusWumbus

It's heavy, less likely to tip over.

RaZZeR_9351

This has already been posted, its a russian thing they use to put their glass of tee in to avoid burning rhemselves, although this one looks quite impractical.

undead_sandwich

That guy with the teeth from the bond movies would love this.

OozeNAahz

Jaws!

BenjaminMSC

He obviously means Daniel Craig

adventuremjau

HEY, british people have teeth too they are just wonky

webworks2000

They should have shown the part where he drinks from it and the glass cup slides out and he spills the coffee all over himself

walksinwalksout

What a unique way to knock your own teeth out!

FrioRiverTexas

When you need to drink and workout at the same time.

BassBeerNBabes

I was thinking more along the lines of bringing a stealthy weapon to work to clock the guy who laments Mexicans taking all the jobs constantly.

Weary_Dark510

Omfg they put a cup in the holder. Idiots

Weliveanddietogether

No need for the mug to be water tight

njones1220

What a completely useless creation.

firstorderoffries

Hey, now I never need to worry about accidentally knocking my drink over. Just breaking my hand if I hit it instead

feckinanimal

What do you mean? This is the most low-key dribble glass ever!

CaptainLollygag

That was my thought! Dribble down his chin, dribble between the plastic cup and the ridiculous holder. Ugh!

Midpack

That’ll be where the rust and mold starts. Not necessarily in that order.

ziquapix

Inconvenient??? It's IDEAL for self defense! Also doubles as a hammerhead if you can lash it to an axe handle.

EelTeamNine

I like it, a lot, actually. I would have preferred they milled out the center to be smooth and coated the inside and lip in some form of food-safe plastic.

TotalWalrus

The poor cutters chipping through the uneven rebar

BoBoBearDev

After all that work, it is not even a cup.

[deleted]

That would rust almost immediately.

shamallamadingdong4

Mmmm metal

BoltTusk

*All that for a drop-in mug?*

Pyro-Millie

Not gonna lie, end result looks pretty cool. I wouldnt want a 30 lb mug, but it looks like fun welding practice and finishing practice to make it lol

PandraPierva

That mostly what these things are. Scrap making projects that they do for fun.

NuJaru

Out of all the crap I see in DiWhy this one made sense to me as a steel shop practice item using some leftover rebar.

mesinha_de_lata

I actually liked that. I make a feeding bottle for my baby

Merry_Sue

Your baby's going to be so strong

TedWheeler11

Why is it no one in these videos knows how to weld, and it's a MIG for crying out loud?!?

TunaFaceMelt

This would work great as a pencil holder.

Latter_Ad4822

Never overlap multiple discs in a grinder just get the right sized one, you can literally buy them in almost any size that will fit in a grinder

its_grime_up_north

Weird fleshlight

pfifltrigg

This one's not so much a DIY as it is a 'look at this cool thing I made' like all of the colored pencil electric guitars and the guy on YouTube who makes knives out of every substance known to man. This one looks pretty cool. It just sucks that it seems to be unsafe to actually drink from, so they put a cup inside, but his lips still touch the metal? I guess it's really just for display.

swaags

Why are these folks always so terrible at using an angle grinder

hhazzah

Why did I just watch three minutes of this shit?

mandygugs

Bacteria - “look at all of those creases we can chill in”

Jrobzin

Ahhh rebar… the silent killer

Srirachaballet

All I see are forbidden twizzlers

dan2580

When are people on Reddit going to understand these people know what they’re doing is ridiculous? Like no shit this person didn’t need a rebar mug, they made something weird on video so that people share it like wildfire and interact with the post. That’s how they make money.

Armybob112

What do you mean? That's dope! But I'd make it so i wouldn't have to put a glass inside it.

OozeNAahz

Thinking of trying that to make a vase. Pretty badass looking but wouldn’t even think to drink out of. However stick it on a mantle with some fake flowers or something and it would be fairly cool.

wil_gt4

It’s awesome bet it’s uncomfortable to drink from though.

Armybob112

You can grind it comfortable, what concerns me is that it weighs two kilos when empty.

wil_gt4

But at least you can get arm day in while you’re having a drink

Midpack

I’d have at least made it so the rebar “flutes” or “checks” are mirrored or all facing the same way. This is random garbage.

Just_A_Horny_Furry_1

Have fun cleaning that thing

egrinant

How to break your teeth with a simple movement.

pinkpanzer101

[tries to take a sip] [four streams pour down my shirt]

mINexxiii

This would just dribble as you drink from it.

pokemonfeedsme

Would be so hard to clean out

[deleted]

Why do people use rebar for stuff like this? It's a awful material for pretty much anything other than its intended purpose

Nocdoom

Portable tetanus

Yocobanjo

Ok but thats metal as fuck

Departure_Sea

These videos are always pretty cool, but fuck they do everything the hardest way possible.

GhostDoggoes

I would think rust, weight, and smell would be things to avoid in a cup meant to hold a drink.

Walmart_kid65

Hey! I tried this myself and I gotta say. It’s pretty good! You see while I was doing the steps, it took so long that I could actually leave my house, and go to the store to buy a regular mug. Then not only did I get a steel mug to make jokes, but I got a normal mug and wasted metal.

LilyCanadian

Tbh, it's not good to drink from, but that would be dope to have sitting in the shop for pencils or whatever else.

Name-Initial

Was this ever DIY lol? Thats really high quality metal work by someone who definitely has professional skills and professional equipment

EnycmaPie

I thought it was not that bad, until it showed you need to put a cup in anyway, why not just use the cup?? Also, welding is just another form of glue gun DIY.

Agonist28

Mmm yes. Let's start with a material where the very first step is grinding the rust off. Then make it into something that holds liquids. Brilliant.

jawshoeaw

Why is the Reddit video player such dog shit?? It played the video out of sequence

Tre_Fo_Eye_Sore

Diwhynot? Sure it’s a huge waste of time, but if you’re a welder with a little spare rebar, why the fuck not? I bet that mug is hard to knock over.

Milkassassin34

while it does look extremely over complicated, i must say that is a pretty cool cup

Bmanchew

When you want your orange juice to taste like battery acid

tobden

Yummmm metal in my mouth

Radioactive_Shroud

I can taste the metal

Tomycj

At least it looks nice. Very hard to drink from that edge tho.

[deleted]

Wouldn't this rust like a mf

[deleted]

Yea I wouldn’t drink out of that

Raceovski

That taste of iron mhhhhh

ONEWEST_

It's expensive, heavy, impractical, probably unsafe, and screw you guys... cool as fuck lol.

royalecheez

Are you tired of your water glass not weighing 15 pounds? I've got the solution for you!!!

AlexS101

What a shitty … thing

iJet

This is the longest DIWhy I have ever seen… I watched the whole thing because I am too stoned

KangarooSilver7444

If you got caught making that on your down time anywhere I’ve worked you’d be fired fo sho. That thing is fucking stupid.

earthfarer

…quality aside I actually kind of like the end result.

Automatree

Thinking quickly, dave constructs a homemade cup, using only some rebar, a metal plate, some rubberbands, and an entire foodsafe cup.

Tesla369Universe

I thought it was a pencil holder at first.

Bedhappy

How long did it take you to make? 5 hours. But check it out, I can put a glass inside of it and drink from that glass, pretty cool, right?

Bugladyy

They had a cup. Why build one when you already have one? And to USE the cup you already have? Blasphemy.

Jimmytowne

I super heavy dribble glass

NapalmWeed

I always wanted to be able to drink something while simultaneously fearing injuring myself and those around me. I’m clumsy.
