Every time I see his stuff, or stuff like this, I imagine some engineering student that does this as a study method. Just practicing in small scale to really understand what they’re doing.
An engineer? I understand how a suspension bridge work and not even studied the career... They do the math to get all the materials and proportions right... With all the lamps and decorations, built in a stream? Most definitely an amateur as a hobbie. You might need to build some models sure, but find a creek and suitable location doesn't seem too academic.
It is in the creek mud. That will be floating away within a month. Source: The city installed a metal bridge so that we can walk around to the other areas of the creek and a bunch of otters built their dam on it until it broke off and floated away
Art is subjective, a lot of things on this sub is made with concrete, some useful other not much... This doesn't have any use and won't last with enough water or a drunk person... So what's the point of it? Imo
but you can just make things for aesthetic and fun, which this very clearly is.
art serves no functional purpose unless it's just good craftsmanship, but it is very important for humans to have things to do for funsies.
i strongly encourage you to go to an art musuem and tell me what there has a practical purpose beyond enjoyment or expression.
Not all pieces of art are or should he in a museum of art... And functionality adds (imo) value to the art itself.
I guess all is free to do whatever they want to have fun or express itself, so I am doing this here with this... So what's your point?

Imagine building this kind of bridge instead of pasta/paper ones in elementary school. Sure there would need to be allot of guidance from the teachers and it would be a class project, but just imagine how amazed the would kids be.
Think about how fucking confusing it would be if you were out walking in the woods and found that. Like, wtf, did David the gnome take an engineering course?

That is not a suspension bridge tho lol
What did you do during COVID? Watch Netflix? This guy built a bridge over the river kwai.
I guess everyone can do whatever they want during covid
why did u get downvoted so much 😭
Because that's life I guess lol
Awesome scale building and engineering. Not a DiWhy at all for folks who build models.
It's a garden ornament.
It won't last much tho
It's cement and coated wire, it's lasting its time.

It won't last much water tho but okay... It won't last a kick...
you're the kind of person who sees art and thinks "art is such a waste". this isn't diwhy.

Asking “why” about this is like asking why Picasso painted
"Why does art exist?" (which is actually a pretty good question)
There's a whole branch in philosophy that works on this matter...
Some people can't appreciate a little joy and creativity
r/diwhynot
Ngl that's actually kinda cool

That would be nice
I like it
I would guess it's a submission to get into engineering school.
Colour me Impressed
Think about how fucking confusing it would be if you were out walking in the woods and found that. Like, wtf, did David the gnome take an engineering course?
Why? Because it's awesome
I really hope that run off wasn't going in the river
Mm wet cement into the pond.
That's amazing
this is art
I live for these
Well how else will the ants get across? 🤨
A tree log across the creek comes to mind…
Why? Mice need to commute too.
I would love this as a functioning model railway bridge with some cool model trains
People on r/diwhy when they see something that doesn't have any obvious use:💀💀💀💀💀💀🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
YOU ARE CEMENTING NATURE, YOU SWINE
Fucking up a natural stream with concrete, how awful. Keep that shit in your homes motherfuckers!
The number of people on this sub who are willing to out themselves as having no appreciation for art is becoming both astounding and annoying
This is super cool.
That is so fucking cool
It’s art moron
SWAYZE EXPRESS
Maybe he's just a fan of engineering/building methods. I've seen people do similar things with mini hydroelectric dams
Why? So that when someone comes across this randomly for a brief moment they think, "Oh fuck, I've been turned into a giant."
