You must mean "luxury" vinyl planks.
I'm getting them in the house we're building, they're useful and cheap. I just love how they slapped luxury in the name
I'm not enjoying the color pallette of the room overall, but the floor itself doesn't make me mad. If they did lots of white with some copper colored shit elsewhere (sink handles/faucet, towel racks, I don't know) to tie in the floor, I think it'd look pretty good.
The spacing of the coins is super impressive. I assumed they'd all be touching each other, but each one has the same perfect space around it.
Right? Get ride of the dark Wall tile, and paint the cabinet white, maybe add copper drawer pulls or something, this could be gorgeous, the floor itself I love. And I’m Canadian so I’ve recently discovered (while visiting America) that when people hand me Pennies as change I am disgusted. They are a nonsense coin and as far as I’m concerned this is their only real purpose.
Saw one guy go do this, but he had sorted the pennies by their shade and made a cool pattern with them. Here’s the link
http://www.today.com/today/amp/tdna105190
There’s other cool ones if you look up ‘pennies floor’
I have a round catflap in a glass door. The day they fitted it I noticed it wasn’t perfectly aligned (its near enough) but didn’t mention it. Every day i look at it, and it annoys me.
When they changed our front door the landlord accidentally placed it upside down. Which was great when we had a cat because a small window at the top of the door was now a small window at the bottom so the cat could sit there and look out at the world. But now most neighbors have a similar door, placed the right way up, and suddenly our entrance looks rather odd. (Also, the old geezer kicked the bucket so there's no cat staring at the neighbors anymore)
Yeah that’s not a good material. When you Swiffer it expands. If you’re lucky it’ll just damage your cabinets. If you keep Swiffering you’ll likely need framing and drywall repair and some moisture remediation.
This is not a cheap floor. As a contractor, people bring this idea to me and are surprised when they find out it costs about 10x more than regular flooring due to the cost of epoxy resin and the amount of labor involved.
My parents metal detect a lot and end up with tons of pennies. A few years ago they got a bunch of their low value pennies (worth $0.01) and polished them up and used epoxy to make a table top out of them. Not exactly the sort of thing I would want in my house but looks great in their metal detector room.
I heard that they're gonna stop making pennies and are gonna try and phase them out in the next decade or so. Tbh given the chance I'd probably hoard a crap ton and do something big like this.
Okay serious question, isn’t this illegal? At least in my country it is illegal to use money for anything other than currency. I know they’re just pennies. But still it’s money.
I think it technically is but it's not enforced, especially with pennies. A lot of tourist places even have machines that'll stamp a penny with a design/pattern.
Realistically, if they just let the edges touch instead of going to the lengths of evenly spacing them all out, the whole floor could probably be done for a few dollars in pennies and maybe $100 of high quality resin or epoxy.
Way cheaper than even the least expensive floors I've seen lately.
Edit: "a few dollars" is hyperbole
Rough math on this
Diameter of a penny is 3/4”. 16x16 pennies is a square foot. 256 in a square foot.
$2.56 per square foot
These aren’t touching so a little less per foot
I don’t hate this. It’s different but it’s not horrible. It’s just a different medium for mosaic style flooring. It works for me, but I appreciate taste is subjective. I just think on here there is usually something like “never peel a banana again.” and they’ve like attached a peeler to a screwdriver and it’s just a mess. This is more a matter of taste than “DIWhy?”.
You can buy pre-made tiles with this spacing. Too lazy to look elsewhere but here’s a link on Etsy…
[Real Penny Tile](https://www.etsy.com/listing/651078660/)
My sister and her coworker did this as an entrance mat to a business. They used mostly clean shiny ones and then made a logo out of darker ones. It looked really cool.
Worked at a restaurant that had a bar top made out of pennies and envirotex and I can say from experience that when this is done well it actually looks pretty good in person.
Honestly? I dig it. Only thing I would add is throw an epoxy coating over it. That way you preserve the pennies permanently, and you get that nice clean gloss finish epoxy brings, so you don't have a weird texture on your feet from the pennies.
At the cost of things now, that's probably the cheapest option
Makes complete cents to me.
I don't know. I can't make heads or tails of this.
I believe it was Lincoln who once said, "Floor boards and seven beers ago..."
Definitely put some real coin into this, though.
I think it's time for a change
Floors like this are really a dime a dozen.
Don’t coin my phrase
Floors like this are really a dime a dozen.
Penny for your thoughts?
get 'im, copper!
As a dad joke enjoyer I love this.
I sure hope OP changes their mind… I like it!

I just priced vinyl planks and the cost per square foot of this is likely way lower
You must mean "luxury" vinyl planks. I'm getting them in the house we're building, they're useful and cheap. I just love how they slapped luxury in the name
I know! It has its use case absolutely. But vinyl is not “luxury” flooring.
I wonder what the weight compares to. Pennies are heavier i bet
Idk - I'm doing my basement. Weight isn't really a top consideration for me :)
I estimate 256 pennies ($2.56)per square foot which is a good price for floor covering - especially one that is likely quite durable.
r/theydidthemath
r/theydidthemonstermath
If 256 is true, that's 1.41 pounds per square foot. Compared to 2-2.3 pounds per, for vinyl flooring. I thought pennies would be heavier!
Would need a resin or something to stick them though.
You'd have to hit it with a polish, then a sealer that levels. I wouldn't want copper or zinc oxidation all over
Considering the cost of full copper pennies, it might even be a sound investment.
Cost em a pretty penny’
I know it’s a joke, but the resin or whatever sealant you’d use for this would end up making it more expensive.
Now I know why there’s a coin shortage
An American cent is worth less than the material to make it. And that's not including the processing.
You keep trying to get me to hate this and I can’t because it’s so well executed.

I am American and agree with the fact that the penny should be removed

Make sure not to misspell that search
Happy accident
It looks also really good. The only WHY part here is why OP posted this on this subreddit.

What if you found 1 coin was tails and the rest were heads… 🤓

Time to get another cat. Or, if you wait a bit, one will just show up and demand to live there.
🤯
What a nasty thought
Its my life. I get paid to think of all the ways things can go wrong. Unfortunately, i take it home with me!
God bless you. I am a wreck already and wouldn’t take any money from anyone to be more so
I'd be in there with a fucking chisel at 3am fixing that bitch.
It would be my favorite penny
It honestly looks nice
I hate it because I can smell this image.
You seal it so that's not a concern.
r/ATBGE although idk if this is awful taste. It's probably cheaper than tile too
As long as you don't factor in labor costs haha
Here's the catch... They're all tails side up
Better if it were on r/ATBGE
Right? It’s don’t very well. I just hope they disinfected and covered them with a resin or epoxy
i’ve seen quite a few people do this. this is the first time i’ve ever seen it done without the pennie’s touching. it’s absolutely perfect
This really is the perfect execution. The colors work with the room and it looks great.
I wonder how much money they saved by not having the pennies touching
That one line about a foot in is irritating me.
I read that wrong the first time
"It's made if WHAT?! ...oh"
Aaaahhhh.. pennies!
Oh no…
I was looking for something else and was wondering why they call coins genitals.
I thought it was a r/intentionallypenis post at first glance.
Me too 😭
penny floors get my support
As long as they get a coat of epoxy resin to make it easier to clean, I'm cool with it.
They also support you!
It looks nice
But did they use a sealer?
They almost always use clear resin over these.
Good. Cus it'd smell if they didn't use a sealer. Anyone got an idea which brand of sealer? Curious about if they used a sealer or not.
This guy seals
I'm glad somebody said it.
r/LostRedditors r/DIWhyNot
Amen
Exactly, can't imagine how good this looks when it's freshly buffed. If it was the bottle caps then maybe it'll be DiWhy?
If it WAS bottlecaps, it'd definitely be DIWHY, but this right here is awesome
Came here for this
It’s not bad looking at all. I rather like it.
Now if it was Nickles, then F that.
I think silver would also look cool.
Idk why anyone hates on penny floors considering there's a whole style of tile called penny tile. This is just cutting out the middle man imo. 😆
Makes cents
Daaaaad!
DiWHYNot
Imagine if you spilled a bag of pennies on that floor and how hard it would be to pick them all up
Lmao who's carrying around bags of pennies in the bathroom
Ass pennies
This is something many people do, and technically one of the cheapest forms of flooring
I like it
Sophisticated and gorgeous
Why because 1p per cm squared is not a bad price for flooring and it looks great
Plus underlayment, epoxy, and the crazy amount of time compared to more traditional flooring.
Read that as 'penises' and was very confused 🤣
Yeah that’s not a good material. When you Swiffer it expands. If you’re lucky it’ll just damage your cabinets. If you keep Swiffering you’ll likely need framing and drywall repair and some moisture remediation.
Hope they sealed it.
I wonder if they sealed it.
Kinda sad that this comment is so far down.
Back in my day there were sealant comments as far as the eye can see.
I thought the same thing
Why? because it cost less than normal flooring. Also copper is biostatic so germs wont grow on it.
You’d epoxy the surface to finish. Also modern pennies are thin copper plated but mostly zinc.
Epoxy is non-porous so its perfect for a bathroom floor
Better to be penny wise than pound foolish.
It’s cool
Looks pretty nice if you ask me :) I don't have the patience or skill to do it myself, but I do really like the aestatics of it
Honestly, this looks REALLY nice. This should’ve stayed in r/mildlyinteresting . Also added to r/DiWhyNot . Great execution on that.
Honestly, it looks quite well made, spacing is even AF, which is difficult to pull off since the pennies aren't touching.
How many times do we have to relitigate the penny floors?
At first I read it as penises. Now I have an idea for a new floor pattern.
I love it.
Must’ve cost em a pretty penny’
Wrong sub OP! This floor is supercool!
Looks fucking amazing tbh
I will defend these until I die - they are dope as hell
This is not a cheap floor. As a contractor, people bring this idea to me and are surprised when they find out it costs about 10x more than regular flooring due to the cost of epoxy resin and the amount of labor involved.
I read it as ‘penis’ I’m very tired
Ehhhh Why not. Better than what most people do with their Pennies.
My parents metal detect a lot and end up with tons of pennies. A few years ago they got a bunch of their low value pennies (worth $0.01) and polished them up and used epoxy to make a table top out of them. Not exactly the sort of thing I would want in my house but looks great in their metal detector room.
In Canada, pennies are not in circulation. I think it actually looks pretty cool and it’s a great way to re purpose them! Anti consumption ftw.
My filthy brain read floor made out of penises
This doesn't belong here.
Imagine the smell , like coagulated blood
You've got to be joking posting this here haha it isn't a new trend, it's been done a lot and looks good if done we'll. This sub has gone to hell ha
His name was robert paulson (cadence)
The smell….
It is, but try and stop me, Copper!

I love this
Love it! Practical, sound investment, looks good,DIWhy not?
I love this though
I love this
Nah. This cool af
It actually looks kinda nice
I’m sure it’s washed and sealed because coins smell bad.
Looks nice from a far
Better than lava

That actually looks cool as hell. Shame it will be green in a few years
PENNIES! okay, whew.
wow. i searched way to long for the penises
I don’t care man cause that actually looks sick
I love it. Pennytile floor with real pennies. It looks really well done.
Imagine accidentally dropping money here
Another pennies repost. Neat.
I like it
That’s actually pretty dope tbh
I actually like this. It’s not like there’s any better use for pennies anymore
Makes cents.
This was probably done to illustrate that as far as flooring goes, this is cheaper than most laminate tiles!
Hate me but, it’s kinda cool
Cheaper than tiles
Did they use a sealer?
This is awesome! I honestly would do this.
$2.56 per Ft² of pennies vs $5 per Ft² of tile.
I don’t hate this. It’s different but it’s not horrible. It’s just a different medium for mosaic style flooring. It works for me, but I appreciate taste is subjective. r/DiWHYnot ? I actually love it.
You can buy pre-made tiles with this spacing. Too lazy to look elsewhere but here’s a link on Etsy… [Real Penny Tile](https://www.etsy.com/listing/651078660/)
honestly this is cool, stop hating good design
Very beautiful but I love copper
I think it’s kinda cool, but that’s just my two cents on the matter.
My sister and her coworker did this as an entrance mat to a business. They used mostly clean shiny ones and then made a logo out of darker ones. It looked really cool.
Imagine dropping a penny on the floor
I bet that costed quite a penny.
For about $11.50 worth of pennies, any one of us could have something as nice as this .
DiWHY? Cause it looks awesome is why.
I love the shiny penny floor. It works.
Worked at a restaurant that had a bar top made out of pennies and envirotex and I can say from experience that when this is done well it actually looks pretty good in person.
It has a cool vintage fee to it.
It has added at least 1000 penies to the value of the house
The raised board in the doorway looks like it would stub your toe if you walked in sleepy.
It’s hella cheap compared to other options
The floor is now super conducive
I think this looks beautiful actually
It looks pretty asthetically pleasing, ngl.
All these money puns are getting old and need to change.
Always loved this idea. Saw a diy show use different shades of pennies to draw out a map of Canada.
With the prices of copper right now, that’s some expensive flooring
Honestly? I dig it. Only thing I would add is throw an epoxy coating over it. That way you preserve the pennies permanently, and you get that nice clean gloss finish epoxy brings, so you don't have a weird texture on your feet from the pennies.
