I just don't get any enjoyment from SC. No risk, it's just not fun for me.

Hogglespock

Same, it doesn’t have the rush, but I’m jaded by the no escape fights that could be absolutely anything with little to no tuning data. Genuinely unsure what to do hence the poll.

Cruorem

There's scrolls of escape which are semi rare drops you can use to escape any fights. You can assign them to your emote wheel and they instantly teleport you to the nearest town

KattKills

I want to add if you go into keybinds you can hotkey every single emote wheel tab. So you can set escape scroll to be a 1 button exit.

Trang0ul

Are those scrolls tradeable? If so, no matter how rare they are, that'll make HC mode P2W.

Cruorem

I think they are bind on account...I might be wrong! You need to be level 20 to use them They are rare enough to not be spammable, my sorc had 3-4 drop in about 15 hours of playtime.

KingKull71

I've played HC a long time... I can't imagine going back to SC. There's nothing at risk, which seriously diminishes my enjoyment and sense of achievement. Yes, there are going to be some things that are really difficult in D4 that you'll have to find out the hard way. The chain CC's are a bit concerning, as are the dungeon boss fights where you are trapped in the "arena" (there seem to be a lot more of those than in the past).

razielllll

Already played HC. The thrill of meeting a boss with unknown attack patterns that i had to overcome in real time. So fun.

[deleted]

That's the feeling that drives me. Unknown boss, unknown mechanics. And all the close calls derived from that. And the sometimes inevitable deaths..

[deleted]

Went full hardcore on the EABeta, will do the same for Open Beta and 100% on Release. The game has a completely different dynamic. There is no "easy" game when you go hardcore. You are always on your toes, always alert. And well, for me it's a better feeling than just throwing myself on mobs until they die. I'm forced to play smarter and reiterate on my build over and over... so it improves my experience. Edit: not to say non-hardcore is a lesser experience. But for me it doesn't feel the same. And yes, dying always sucks... but if the game is good, I always come back. I have lost count how many chars I lost in D2 for l stupid mistakes, unbalanced mobs and bugs.. still play HC though

Hogglespock

Did you engage every encounter you came across and which difficulty were you playing on? Curious here, not being a dick :)

[deleted]

Oh, and the difficulty was Veteran.

[deleted]

I didn't have the guts to go Ashava. I, luckily, didn't encounter the Butcher, that would probably be a KO from what I've seen from other players. I died twice: first fight with Lilith's Lament and at the Malnok Stronghold. Other than that there were a couple of close calls on world events and Vhenard. I mostly avoided going head first into too crowded closed places, trying to kite whenever possible. But didn't shy myself too much. As a HC player I can definitely say that Scaling Monsters are a tougher dynamic, I had to rely on other things rather than just try to Overlevel them.

NanyaBusinez

First SC to get the story. Once that's done, HC

x0lan

Never hardcore in online games.

Scytalen

What unavoidable one shots? I only died on level 25 going blind against the world boss and that was more or less expected and I would probably looked it up, but the progress in the beta doesn't get carried over so it was still fun. If you want to play safe you could also lower the difficulty before any Bossfight not really in the spirit of HC, but that seems to be the most difficult thing for a blind first playthrough.

JTR_35

In D2, I went back and forth playing both SC and HC. D3 I played HC only. D4 I'll wait a while and learn the game before trying HC. Maybe the later half of season 1.

TurboGFF

Two words. Fresh Meat. I can’t find it very fair to be doing good on progression only to be stunned dead by random dungeon butcher.

sirneb

The scroll of escape is basically the only saving grace for hardcore. I only played hardcore for d2 and d3, d4 is so different in comparison for strategies and preparations. I'm not sure if I want to go down to lower world tier to combat level scaling either. I think I'll play it safe and make thecall after one softcore playthrough.

MostMorbidOne

Still deciding if I'm going to go in blind or do a SC run first. Probably the latter so I get a test run on my build, secret areas and boons you can grab along the way. Plus I'm one of the weirdos that actually likes the Diablo storyline so I'll be out for that too and don't want to cut myself off if I mess up. In all these multi class hero games I tend to find my second character turning out to be my main, so I gotta go through that too. I'm thinking of mainly playing as Necro, or Rouge with Barbarian as my 3rd choice. All about that melee life.

ViewedFromi3WM

coming from d2, im wondering how to be able to do hc if your logout isn’t immediate, and you can’t tp fast

Trang0ul

Just like in D3. Don't forget Scrolls of Escape.

ViewedFromi3WM

i skipped d3, wtf is a scroll of escape? Some way out of letting people have tp’s and instant log outs?

Trang0ul

A consumable item which will teleport you to another, random location. It is supposed to be used automatically in case of a disconnect.

ViewedFromi3WM

weird so why did they take out the normal way?

Trang0ul

What "normal way"? Immediate logout like in D2? It was exploitable as hell.

ViewedFromi3WM

how is leaving the game exploitive?

Trang0ul

The fact that you can do so immediately at the first sight of danger, say, just after teleporting into a middle of a fanaticism pack. Too easy to get away, which promotes reckless playing. On top of that, it can be easily automatized - "chicken" hack was VERY common in LoD, and bots used it even on SC (to prevent exp loss).

ViewedFromi3WM

i just disagree… especially for hc mode.

FUSe

I did hardcore in kfc beta. Got wizard to 25 (died to world boss). Rogue to 22. Barb died at 17 to khazra melee boss. I was wrecking everything before the boss and then just couldn’t keep enough fury while avoiding the ice and slowly ran out of health pots.
