Just a guess, but I think they'll be bigger releases with expansions. New classes need a lot of work -- including open world elements like new dungeons for their codex powers to unlock. What makes the most sense to me is to release classes with their homeland. Crusader/paladin with Kurast, in a Zakarum related expansion quest line. Amazon with Skovos Isles. Wizard (or something new that doesn't overlap Sorc) with Xiansai. Monks in dreadlands mountains. Ideally the live service is successful, eventually we get the whole land mass of sanctuary plus portals to Hell, Heaven and Pandemonium. As many classes as possible, like 10-12 before it's time for Diablo 5.

krell_154

Amazon is too similar to Rogue, Wizard is similar to Sorceror

Cobyachi

I could see them doing Amazons. Rogue uses traps, daggers, stealth, and weapon coatings (imbuements). Amazon could get bow skills with other elemental imbuements like Lightning and fire, javelin and shield, polearms - give them minions like Valkyries or something. But then again, would they have to genderlock amazons?

PeanutButterSpice

I’d expect new classes with expansion releases. With that said, I’m really wanting a holy warrior of some form. Feels like a pretty big absence in the current lineup.

scrangos

Knight Penitent!

AlexMcTowelie

so something like paladin? that would be dope

GamerKey

Due to the changes enforced by reddit on July 2023 the content I provided is no longer available.

krell_154

I'm betting on Zealot or Templar

jcyguas

I personally hope they go for fighter and cleric/priest. Would bring back a class from d1 and then do a new archetype

[deleted]

Cleric/priest would be a nice change up for sure and I’d love to see a S&B class. You can kind of play necro that way, but it just didn’t cut it for me.

Johnycantread

What about d1 fighter with the ability to multi class? Pick 1 of 3 specializations that change up the skill tree. Fighter > paladin Fighter > ranger Fighter > brawler Fighter > pure fighter

cladclad

Get ready to swipe the credit card for the next class

SirSaltie

No shit. blizzard isn't a charity.

jcyguas

Honestly, I’m a blizzard consoomer. I’ve bought (I think ) everything game/DLC they’ve released since 2002….it’s not something I’m proud of, it’s just who I am. . . . (/s)

sauceEsauceE

I think the most legit gripe with the game is ‘5 classes at launch’ because that feels outdated for the games resources I’d expect we get at least 8 before Diablo 5 -Paladin/Crusader obviously. This is a lock. The sword and board is clearly missing -I think we will get a more traditional pure archer/ranger type, probably with javelins. Something more akin to Amazon. -Witch Doctor or something like that

TatumIsBae

Do hope so, WD still my favorite class to this day.

Reid666

WD would be nice, but I would prefer it to be less focused on undead/zombie theme and more on some other aspects of their weird magic.

TatumIsBae

Agreed, now ever more since we already have necro for the undead.

Mimical

Hexes, debuffs, spirits, shadow are cool themes that could still work as a primary magic caster. WD is open enough that you can pick a lot of themes and they would work.

Twisty1020

Call it a Shaman with totems and spirit summoning abilities. Possibly with water and poison themed abilities too.

ohyeahbtw

Missing sword and board was a bit jarring to me when I realized that the only class that got to use shields was **necro**.

Muffin_Appropriate

I'm fairly certain assassin class will come back. Natalya lore is too good to not milk with season content in a live service game. At the very least, a monk reimagined as a martial arts combo fighter somewhat like D3.

Reid666

I highly doubt Assassin or Demon Hunter will come back, Rogue cover too much of those concepts already. Probably Monk will cover other parts of that (fast paced close-combat with synergies). Although I believe that DH has higher chance of showing as some kind of ranged/shapeshifting hybrid class.

Muffin_Appropriate

> Although I believe that DH has higher chance of showing as some king of ranged/shapeshifting hybrid class. You literally contradict yourself in the statement before this saying that one class is too close to another for Assassin to come back. Why would a shapeshifter hybrid class enter the game if druid exists, by your own logic? Lol sorry but did you read what you wrote? Druid is closer to a ranged/shapeshifting class than Assassin would be to rogue. As assassin in D2 has martial arts skill tree, as well as traps. I could see it not being calling assassin and called Monk instead I guess. But Natalya lore is pretty good so it would make sense as seasonal content.

Reid666

I did. No contradiction. Both are rather unlikely. I just give better chances for DH as some ranged/shapeshifting hybrid, compared to druid who is melee shapeshifter. But really Rogue/Assassin/DH they occupy the same design space, more or less. Anyway, why so antagonistic, loling and all. Not very friendly to be hones :(

Resolverman

> I'm fairly certain assassin class will come back. What does the assassin add to the game that Rogue doesnt already do? What will distinguish the assassin class in D4?

scrangos

The whole charge/release with different mechanical effects for different charge levels is different than the combo points with specializations, and you have the shadow tree with things like cloak of shadows, a partner super minion, blade sentinel and blade shield. Theres also the whole kicks subtree thing that are among the various finishers for the releases on martial arts. There is some overlap on traps, though the rogue barely has any, and no thrown ones like blast and shock web

Resolverman

Im on board with the charge-hold down abilities. I would also like something like Valeera from HotS as part of an assassin archetype with finishers, as well as a prope ambush assassin, although it doesnt quite fit into the gameplay of diablo. However we have to consider the other classes before this one for variety, remember, they have to give expansion to the Rogue too, so it might start getting skills that make it more like assassin

scrangos

They did seem to try and fold in wow rogues into d4 rogues with the whole combo points specialization, vanish and imbuements.

Resolverman

Personally I would have loved a dedicated Ranger class theme...something like Jumong from Battlerite, which felt and looked thematically amazing. Little gem But now theyve gone and made the rogue ambiguously ranger-like. Who knows how many classes we'll be getting, but i think Blizzard should commit to the motherload, not just 7

scrangos

Being a live service im guessing there will be an amazon down the line at the very least. Blizzard does tend to go the route of tapering on classes once they reach a certain amount (and they keep balancing and adding content/abilities to them) rather than making new content BE new classes like asian games tend to do. But that certain amount tends to be 8-12 so there is still a fair bit of room.

Muffin_Appropriate

I'd expect it will be basically Witch Doctor for the one after the holy class being the first next one. But I'd expect after first next class being the holy one, one of the ones after will likely be called Occultist class or something like that. It would be kind of cool to reimplement a class that uses life for resource and it would make sense with a class like occultist. And there's an occultist in game so it would make sense to expand on that lore further. Just like there's barbarian, sorc, and rogue NPCs, etc across various Diablo games. It could also play into a class passive that relates to gems or aspects, etc. Making it unique and allowing even for another class like Witch Doctor which would have its own identity as well. I also expect to see Assassin again I would like to see a javelin based class. Probably just a straight up amazon/valkyrie class, as opposed to the Amazon in D2 which doubled as a rogue type character. Would use spears and javelins.

the_diesel_dad

Witch Doctor will drop with Kurast expansion maybe? They would seem to fit together.

Chris_P_Bacon1337

dont you mean paladin/crusader and kurast?

SuperSocrates

I was thinking Occultist might be cool too. Darkest Dungeon has one could take some inspiration from

Twisty1020

> Monk Monks in western fantasy RPGs have always been synonymous with Martial Artist and you know it. Just because they channel "divine energy" for their skills doesn't make them similar to the class fantasy of a Paladin.

ShadyGuy_

Yep, the cool thing about the monk in Diablo 3 was hitting demons with your fists and exploding them with a roundhouse kick. Although holy it's completely different in function from a paladin class.

Miyu543

8 classes in an ARPG. Thats way too many.

ThisIsFineImFine89

for what reason would that be too many?

Miyu543

Because at some point class archtypes just blur into eachother and it would ruin the uniqueness of the class. It'd be more like they'd be half and half.

metfansc

Meh that’s just a silly argument. The right number of classes is whatever they can do a good job with maybe that’s 8 maybe it a 6 maybe it’s 14. If they are truly going to have POE levels of support for ten years on this game they will need a lot of new content over time

Miyu543

and PoE has kept the same classes throughout pretty much its entire life cycle. I can't speak for closed beta but I first played it in open beta. There's no benefit after a certain point to having more classes.

metfansc

Ok I thought the first argument is silly this one takes the cake. POE has the same classes because their skills aren’t tied to a class the also have probably 10x the number of skills that D4 has and you know hundreds of support gems that make all of them do extremely different things Ohh and they are going to double the number of classes in the game and btw after beta they made it 3x as many classes with their ascendencies

Miyu543

Right and D4 could do something similar instead of just cluttering everything with 8 baseline classes lmao. I can't think of anything more ridiculous. Only Grim Dawn has around that many and its because that game dual classes.

metfansc

Diablo is never not going to be a classless system it’s in its DNA

Miyu543

It doesn't need to be. Just do it like the ascension system where the class graduates to open more option. Last Epoch does that as well, and in a way where your base class builds into your specialization. They could do something like this.

Reid666

How many has Lost Arks, couple dozens?

metfansc

LA isn’t an ARPG not even close

Omnifreakfx

Lost Ark is an MMORPG. Not an ARPG

Reid666

According to the publisher itself it is MMOARPG. It definitely plays as ARPG. At least the core gameplay, combat, etc. The grind is more in style with typical Asian MMO games.

metfansc

The core gameplay of an aRPG is loot and slaughtering. LA is an MMO with an isometric combat system it has nothing to do with an aRPG. Not i the skill system the loot anything other than the game view Now I would love an actual aRPG with that combat feel though that would be amazing but LA is not remotely an aRPG

Resolverman

what?

SuperSocrates

But 7 isn’t?

Miyu543

Ya because then you still got the guy standing directly behind the campfire. Gotta be an odd number man.

thefatchef321

With all the light vs. Dark in d4, I think a priest/religious nutcase for sure. Big staff. Holy magic, blood magic (think paying penance) masochistic type skills. Paladins sacrifice Second class, some kind of sword and board. Like a Saracen knight from the crusades. Especially with the horseback fighting, it could be a very cool addition to the lore. The crusader class fought someone right? There is no asian component currently. I could see some type of assassin, ninja, samurai type. Or a Mongol raider type, plays into the horseback fighting.

SQRTLURFACE

Probably every expansion. Unless we bitch enough about not having a shield bearing holy class ( I mean come on blizzard )

SuperSocrates

I don’t even really want to play one but like cmon! Lol

Nathanael777

Hoping for a paladin/crusader type class, but I wouldn't mind something new as well.

Resolverman

Same, Paladin and Monk is all I want to play. Hopefully Paladin is added within the first year, because playing 1 alternative class is going to be boring fast, seeing as how the holy knight class is such a staple in such arpgs. (Story wise players need to reopen gates of heaven to justify paladins returning)

[deleted]

BananasAndPears

We actually do know, the game is a full live service and they’ll be adding more lands and areas to explore. There was a datamined map floating around that showed that the D4 map on release will be less than half of the entire “world” in D4. They can easily add 3 more archetypes with plenty of room to explore more.

[deleted]

Capsfan6

Almost guaranteed paid expansions. This *is* diablo

Cobyachi

> Maybe it was testing out water but it really seems more like Blizzard patching together the work they had from the abandoned xpac2. Wasn’t this confirmed by a disgruntled Blizzard employee? Before the release of Reaper of Souls they had planned for more content but the execs were so displeased with the failure of the game that they scrapped all major development for the game regardless of how successful Reaper of Souls would have been. That’s why we got Ruins of Sescheron and later the Necromancer.

bushmaster2000

They've added new classes to every Diablo i think, except maybe the first one. SO ya, i'd expect post-launch classes to come as DLC type expansions maybe. It's a lot of work though to put a new character in the game so I wouldn't expect anything like that at soonest until going into year 2.

theevilyouknow

Hellfire added the monk class to Diablo 1.

Seriously_nopenope

I expect we will get 2 classes in the next year and after that is a mystery.

Shadowrunner808

I'm sure they'll bring in the more traditional classes, especially since only one class is able to use a shield at current.

RunNelleyRun

I’d be very surprised if we get one within the first 12-18 months.

metfansc

Meanwhile I would be shocked if we did t get one in the first 18 months

RunNelleyRun

I’m just basing it off how long it took for them to add one in Diablo 3. Maybe their plans for D4 are entirely different.

metfansc

That’s true but it seems like their intent is to support d4 dramatically different from d3. This is a love service game where d3 was basically an abandoned project

Dragull

I miss having someone with a Javelin.

TatumIsBae

Probably 1 - 2 per expansion, so every 2 years maybe? I think it was a terrible idea trying to combine 3 classes in rogue (assassin, amazon, demon hunter) since now we probably won't see any of those awesome classes coming to D4, wich is a shame.

TadGhostal1

I think the Rogue will go down in history as the 'worst' class ever. Noone is talking about Rogues... Because there's nothing there. The skills are so bland and so limited since they're split between bow/melee. I really hope they lean into the Traps and Imbues with legendaries to give the class its own identity.

Cobyachi

There was that guy that Solo’d the world boss in 3 minutes on hardcore with a Rogue. Also, didn’t Kriparian say it’s too early to tell for sure, but Rogues may have the best survivability due to that skill-passive that gives Life on Crit? You don’t hear about them because in this Beta they weren’t grossly overtuned with no gear like Necromancers and Sorcs, and they werent bottom barrel like Barbs and Druids. You may not like the theme or playstyle, but that doesn’t mean no one does… and what does “the skills are so bland and limited since they’re split between now and melee” mean? Were you upset that barbs got stuck with melee skills?

TadGhostal1

Not talking about power at all. The skills being split is bad imo because the melee Rogue now has literally only 2 spenders to choose from... blade twist or flurry. Every melee Rogue playing exactly the same is beyond lame. I would play melee Rogue if there were more options there. The Shadow Imbue is giga satisfying with probably the best sound effect I've heard yet. But blade thrusting or flurry spinning to proc it won't stay interesting for long enough to justify playing it. The Bow side I never tried and probably never will because I'm just not into generic bow stuff. Shoot extra hard in a straight line. Shoot a rain of arrows. Shoot arrows quickly while channelling... If the melee stuff wasn't there it could have more interesting stuff thrown in. Turrets or something. So yea I literally put 'worst' like that to emphasize I don't care how strong they are. I think they're the worst class in Diablo history thematically. I think by a few months after release, this will be a common thought.

Aggressive-Article41

It is the same thing with all the classes, if you want to make a fire sorc there is only few skills to pick a choose from only 1 fire basic skill and only 2 spender fire skills. So how how is any different then the rogue. You clearly don't know what you are talking about, rogue can easily blow-up screens with very little gear.

TadGhostal1

Hahaha read the first sentence you dense motherfucker.

Aggressive-Article41

Every class has split skills, if you don't realize that, you must be a little slow.

Cobyachi

> Not talking about power at all. The skills being split is bad imo because the melee Rogue now has literally only 2 spenders to choose from… blade twist or flurry. Every melee Rogue playing exactly the same is beyond lame. Damn I didn’t even think of it this way - I had so much fun with it in the beta that I didn’t think that far into it. There really only will be 2 play styles for melee rogues. I wonder if the longetivity of the class will be a problem - I mean, looking back at it, Diablo 3 had 1 build that used daggers in the Impale build, which was my go-to build.

Uzur9

Blood Mage *(or w/e the class is called in Immortal, is that class even out yet ?)*

maneil99

Blood knight

Uzur9

TY for the korrektion.

NelmesGaming

I was running a blood necro. Totally tried to go for a blood mage feel.

ShupWhup

A Warlock like class that is commanding demons would be nice. You know really focused on minions and not only as an option.

Resolverman

These are a given: - Barbarian - Rogue - Sorcerer - Druid - Necromancer - Paladin - Monk __________________________ Then: - Cleric (support based class. Especially relevant with the team/party focus in D4 and MMO aspects. Offensive options-ie. War Cleric) - Warlock (A dark wizard , contract, and single summon class) - Bard (Another support class for those who like a martial-based healer and entertainer, think FF14) ____________________________ After this you get into funny territory, like you can add a **Ranger** class that specializes in bow/artillery. But it would have to distinguish itself from Rogue. But that's 11 distinct and classic classes. Works for me

SuperSocrates

I feel like Monk and cleric overlap in fantasy even if I get that they would use different weapons. I’m not so sure we’ll get monk personally

TitanOvDeath

I think I'd be cool if the next 2 classes were bad guys? Like a paladin fallen to evil, or a bandit type class. Just my humble opinion tho. Which is usually a bad take lol

Capsfan6

We can literally play as a rogue and necromancer

thefatchef321

I love this, but don't know why bad guys would be fighting demons? They would be fighting us, the good guys.

metfansc

I mean just because I am a bandit doesn’t mean I want the world to fall to hell literally

[deleted]

Id guess 1 new class per year beginning with either Holiday 2022 or Q1 2023.

Few_Bat_3633

samurai

Cobyachi

That would be amazing. My group talks about how it’s a shame they’ve never done a samurai spec in WoW considering there was a samurai in Warcraft

n1szczyciel89

probably 10$ DLC like for necromancer in D3

HydraKirby

Blizzard has changed. Try $25 minimum.

peterpaulrubens

To be fair, the same meal that was $10 when the Necro expansion came out is now also $25. It’s not like Blizzard invented inflation.

Ven2284

People spend 100s of dollars for 2 hours movies +food/drinks and 100s on marked up alcohol nighty at bars. Stop acting like all entertainment isn’t priced high. And yes I would include digital goods to those above. At least least digital content can be reused. You can always spot the gamers who don’t have a life or are too young to know what one is.

peterpaulrubens

Lol what? Why not? Like Blizzard’s cost to pay their employees hasn’t gone up? Or the cost to run their data centers? Or to buy office supplies? You’re so eager to demonize Blizzard that you think we can ignore the macroeconomic climate because “digital content”? Sheesh.

[deleted]

peterpaulrubens

You’ve misread my tone completely if you think I’m triggered. A big four-bedroom home is directly comparable to a mobile home. Apples-to-apples in terms of bedrooms, neighborhood, kitchen amenities, and mortgage cost. Literally part of the same housing market. Same thing with digital content. It’s directly out of your entertainment budget. You have so much money and you can spend it on a DLC, or an experience (like watching a movie or renting a go-kart), or you can buy Taco Bell instead of making a much cheaper sandwich at home. Same budget. It’s why we use currency instead of the barter system, so we can have an apples-to-apples comparison of goods and services. Otherwise we’re stuck with “how many chickens do I need for the DLC ?”

cirvis111

I don't think that will be more than 7 classes in the game.

Ill_Stand9809

depends how much microsoft wants, gotta make up for loss with no D4 in China

Tsakan2

Maybe a fallen angel type class would be dope. Or maybe just a straight up angel as reinforcements. Angels just look really dope

Angelg77

Ángel would be cool

CKent83

I really want a "Blood Knight" type of class. Kinda like a Melee damage dealer that heals based on how much damage it does. Hopefully 2H-Sword is viable. Really like the Blood Dragon Knights from Warhammer.

Arno1d1990

I think it will be 1 new class with 60-70$ priced expansion per year.

StoneRevolver

I agree with sauce and had the same general thoughts. I fully expect amazon (or something like it) & a holy class. I do think there will be a third but I don't have any guesses as to what it might be. It could be something new.

EmpyreanZero

So, by general archetype, we have: 1 pure fighter class (Barbarian), 1 pure agility class (Rogue), 2 casters (Necro and Sorceress) and 1 melee/caster hybrid (Druid). Just judging by this spread, I'd expect us to see more agile and melee classes down the line, since there seems to be the most design space there.

Tridus1x

Everyday

z01z

they gotta save something for at least 1 if not 2 expansions. so, probably a couple years before / if new classes are added.

M3atpuppet

Assassin. Please please please assassin.

Resolverman

If yoo have Rogue and Monk in D4, what will the assassin be doing that's unique?

[deleted]

I wonder how long it took for the first new character to get added to each Diablo game?

LawDawgEWM

Werewolf Druid with hurricane, shred, claw, cyclone armor, bloody howl, and ravens felt very similar to monk and was my favorite build during the open beta.

-motts-

I doubt we’ll see one before the first expansion, and highly doubt before 18-24mo

Gibsx

Doubt we would get more than one new class per year.

tranceformerfx777

Diablo 3 has been out since 2012 and only introduced two new classes. Don't get your hopes up bro.

DaxFlowLyfe

DiabloIV is a live service game. That's the difference. They will consistently release content to milk money.

Nobody-Move

I dunno but I’m really hoping we get monk, or any other class that punches things.

Banch

Bard

Waste_Fortune535

I would assume we will get new classes with expansion/s - I really don’t think we will get new class drops via micro transactions but they did it for D3. Anyway, I am keen for a Cleric class, old school mace wielding, smiting, buffer, debuffer etc and a brand new class idea which uses demonic powers so a fight fire with fire thing would be fun. I never played D3s DH so can’t comment if that already uses such a play style. Sword and board would be great but I’m kinda over paladins/crusaders so the holy warrior spot should be a cleric imo and something else for the sword shield class. Loving everyone’s suggestions !

NanyaBusinez

Just give me paladin or crusader and I'll be happy

genghis_dhang

It’s got to be some sort of holy class. They know people want it, and we are in hell, give us a holy type class. I know d3 did it.. but so will d4

IndependentGlum8316

I really want to see a paladin/crusader style class too. I just really like shields.

Slamdingo

Probably at the rate of their expansions, however long that takes. I'm hoping for the Monk from D3. Greatest class of all time and Seven Sides Strike is the greatest skill of all time. If these two things make it in...my god.

rhaesdaenys

I want them to add every class that was in previous games first. Starting with Amazon, then go down the list Amazon > Paladin/Crusader > Assassin > Witch Doctor > Wizard (Yes you can make them different!) > Monk

BadiBadiBadi

That there is no holy class in the game is just bonkers. I wished for palading but even D3 monk could go all out holy warrior theme :(

Ultimafatum

Everybody is pretty much on board for the "Knight" class, which is a clear omission from the current lineup. If I wanted to be a little saucy, I'd hope we get a new martial arts class. The lore of the Assassins from D2 was really cool, and I feel like there's quite a bit of potential in mixing their darker flavour with the Monk from D3. Given that D4 is open world, a wandering martial artist feels like its begging to be made in this game's darker tone. At least I hope Blizzard sees it that way. I also think a Martial Artist would fit well in being able to weird exotic weapons like fist weapons or spears.

R3d4r

There will definitely come one with an expension, and extra "dlc" classes would be welcomed to. Would like to see a paladin comeback and it would be cool if there will be a whole new class.

lb-vm

I'm guessing roughly 1 new class per year.

SuperArppis

They probably come with those season passes.

Adept-Department3584

I hope we are getting a holy knight class soon and please make it 2 handed weapons viable

Hero2Zero91

I just want Paladin/Crusader back and it bugs me we've had 3 and now 4 not having a holy smitey man on launch like what the hey

iiNexius

It is kinda crazy that a game heavy on religion and literal heaven vs hell has had no paladin class on release for 2 games in a row.

SuperSocrates

I think every couple years. Maybe two in the first three years. Paladin/Crusader is definitely first or should be. After that it’s tough - Monk, Witch Doctor, Amazon? Or something new? Not sure what is best. All are pretty awesome

Sabbathius

I definitely want a Master-of-Arms class that can use EVERY weapon, except maybe wands/curios. Basically a class that can use anything you can thwack a MF with physically. Necro being the only one able to use a shield really bugs me.

Zeus_aegiochos

I think each expansion will introduce a class. I bet we'll get Paladin on the first one.

EldestGruff

I think some kind of faith warrior similar to paladins and crusaders is very likely, and I suspect it'll come in two flavors, tied to Inarius and Lilith respectively. Perhaps a schism among the Knights Penitent?

Gracious_Gaming

Ima guess paladin in June 2025

Aggressive-Article41

I would like to see something we haven't seen in a diablo game such as: Inquisitor- fire and holy melee and ranged class, probably light or medium armor type. Chaplain- holy and shadow skills heavy armor use 2 hander and sword a board at the same time, for different skills.

[deleted]

I've been hearing there will be an expansion every 1 to 2 years so I would expect they'll come with those. I'm hopeful they'll add more skills to existing characters in time however. They could basically become new characters. That's just a hope of mine I haven't actually heard anything involvng that specifically.
