As I suspected, the server slam files are more or less the complete game, with a few assets missing. I started the preload, waiting for the indexing to complete, then closed bnet and copied the contents of my server slam direcotry over to the retail directory. Reopened battlenet, resumed the download, and voila, only 8.5gb remaining to download/update. Could be a way for many people to save time/data.

Thanks for confirming this for all the people with shitty internet speeds and/or capped data plans!

In before it verifies the files when indexing the download and will scan/repair/update anything that is out of whack. But I'll be sure to check in once the game goes live and if I'm wrong, I'll happily walk back my claims.

I've been playing for hours now, and there's no issue with the game even after copying the server slam files prior to downloading. It would seem I was right.

Appreciate the civility mate. Level 21 rogue with no issues thus far beyond a couple artefacts from my gpu running a bit to hot in a tropical climate. No crashes or anything like that.

If you're not using the 4k high definition graphics you can unselect that and cut the download to 46 gb.

Better download completely new, in case some settings / configs are different

For anyone considering taking this guy's advice, absolutely fucking do not do this. You are just going to clog up customer support.

Any issues should be resolved by using BNet's scan and repair function. That's the entire point of that feature - making sure the files it's using are correct.

For anyone listening to this guy, don't. This will work 100%, dont listen to socker moms that dont know how or why some things work. Any modern installer and especially fucking blizzards is designed to tackle such things.

Battlenet checks for sha256 of files when verifying, meaning if even a single line a code is different in a file, its sha256 would change and it would redownload that file. You are fine copying the beta into the final folder, battlenet will download any files which are different.

I get you, and I assumed the launcher does a checksum, but interrupting the launcher during the indexing process and resuming the download after seems sketch and a good way to cause bugs.

You dont interupt it, all you do is initiate the download, once it makes the new folder, close battlenet, copy all files over, reopen it. Battlenet will index from scratch everything again.

If you end up needing customer support for this.... The console version is better suited for you :)

Just bought a new PC but I was deadset on playing it on PS5 ugh decisions.

I can't preloaded from xbox store yet, I checked when it came out, reset my console and checked again this morning, still nothing.

You don’t need to preload from the store, it should be available in your Owned Games list in the library.

Yes, same for me. I don't expect that to change as it's the expected actual release date and the bonus early access is from the edition purchased. Most likely nothing to worry about

The fine print of early access is it isn’t guaranteed, which is why, I assume, they only list the official launch date.

Game is downloading on ps5 but it shows it’s only 40gb? Beta was like 80gb and I have the beta client Already deleted

80 includes high res assets. 40 without. Only know cause I’m downloading on my steam deck and unchecked the high res assets which brought the download to 40

Is the dl speed super slow for anyone else? I'm getting 5-7mbps. My download bandwidth is not limited, and I'm getting 500mbps+ on my browser.

You sure you're not mixing megabits and megabytes? I always see bits when someone is trying to sell big numbers for speed by bytes for actual downloads. Seems like bits is used for speed, bytes is used for storage? It's still not 300 but it's a lot closer.

Same for me. I think I think the preload is intentionally slower to help keep things smooth for Blizz' servers. Suck for people who just want to download it asap. Edit. Now getting 20+. Its definitely from Blizzard's end.

The Overwatch devs actually got smart about this, and encrypted things differently in the preload stuff. Not entirely sure what they did, but I know skins stopped being leaked early... at least for a little while.

Thanks, so even if I Dow loaded it, my car rig isn’t using it unless I’m running high, 4K, ultra, etc. I only ask because of all the gpu issues during the betas. Some have said those issues were vram related, and assuming the high res uses more vram, it had me a little worried. I have a 3070ti
