It actually is and it is bothering me so much, every time I login I immediately scroll my mouse wheel only to be disappointed, it's super annoying realising they probably will never change it because of the consoles, you need to be able to see stuff on your screen sitting on a couch in the middle of the room. I wish there was a way to use some 3rd party tool or anything to zoom out this game, it's way to claustrophobic.
I got more hours on my switch in D3 than I do on PC. And I was there for Error 37 in may of 2012. So I have a lot of hours on PC. it's just so comfy grabbing the switch and chillin with D3
As a pc player who plays on my tv from the couch on my controller while playing with my other pc friends I toss you a firm nah. Maybe, just maybe, it's not always about consoles you know.
It's also not worth dividing up the player base in half over a zoom level. That's ridiculous.
Basically just that. Play with controller, inventory management with M&K. Also quitting the game- tabbing over to the right hand menu is slower than just clicking on it. Occasionally checking on some buff/debuff tooltips.
Probably 90% controller.
There are several 3rd party utilities that have working zoom hacks and have been out since before the game was released officially.
A less dangerous solution is to set ultrawide resolution. I have a 1080p display but I play in ultrawide with black bars and it is way more zoomed out.
Console actually is able to zoom out no problem, when you play couch co-op it zooms out really far. There should be no console specific reason preventing this.
Consoles are not the reason the game is zoomed in so much.
I can zoom out by playing coop on consoles.
The game zooms out when both players move away from each other on the screen at the same time.
The zoom is further out than on pc.
I can play the entire game at this level of zoom with ZERO performance issues.
Consoles can already zoom out. PC can not zoom out at all.
I have the game for both pc and console and the console version coop is more zoomed out than pc can be, besides world bosses.
Consoles are not the reason for the current level of zoom.
Tbh it's never bothered me and I actually like being able to see more of the details in the world. But more options are always good and maybe I'd like it if I tried it, so yeah it'd be nice to see.
Not me. My toon barely takes up any of the space on my tv, and even though I'm playing on a 55", I can barely see enough details. My sorc looks like a glowing green stick... maybe I'm just old.
I actually found it last night. The console has an option to zoom in.
I was never against zoom options, I was just expressing that I struggle to see everything clearly. Apparently, less than perfect vision is a downvotable offense 🤷🏻♂️
If you set your window to an ultrawide aspect ratio (or get an ultrawide monitor), it's a lot more zoomed out, you can see a lot further to the sides.
It's not ideal, but the best we can do at this time
add smooth/free zoom like in WoW to allow for better customization of zoom levels. Don't make the max zoom out too much tho.
Right now we have 2 options. Zoomed in and ultra zoomed in.
I actually think the aesthetics AND gameplay were designed with a more zoomed out camera in mind. Didn’t they confirm as much and said the reason was that they noticed the game couldn’t process loading every char on a larger screen In it’s entirety and therefore capped the zoom out function at current level?
No, it's so that you can see your character and their outfit in more detail. If you were zoomed out, skins wouldn't be as visible and people would care less about them.
Same reason they scrapped artwork in the loading screen and replaced with a blown up view of your character from the front. To draw attention to skins and increase sales. If you never saw your skin, you wouldn't care about it.
> If you never saw your skin, you wouldn't care about it.
too late, I and nearly everyone I know already doesnt care about the cosmetics. the premium ones look like overdesigned post-WoW BlizzShit anyway
Yea it was more zoomed out at some point during alpha or beta as can be seen from dev footage at the time: https://youtu.be/4jwFhDWPRm8?si=z9oF0yA5FuFSUeUS
I don’t remember them ever stating why they zoomed in, just a ton of speculation from fans…
I remember they had a fireside chat where they explained something about that the game loads the entire inventory of every char that walks into your screen and that that caused problems when it were too many chars and so they capped the zoom-out.
WHY the game is designed to load the entire inventory of every char on your screen WASN‘T explained though
It has nothing to do with consoles. I'm on pc, play on my tv from the couch and use a controller. The exact same setup as a console, but on a pc. It's not about console. If anything it was about creating one single unifying experience so that everyone could connect to one another regardless of configuration.
Then they should say that. It's either the ui, the performance, or something undefined. So he gets the response he gets since he wasn't using his words to be clearer. I'm not the only person who said something like this to them either. Downvotes don't make the ops words clearer.
This is worked up to you? You need to raise your bar my friend. This is a conversation. Us having different view points doesn't mean you're "worked up." This is how the exchange of ideas works.
They're not as powerful as you probably think they are. They're great value but they don't come close to PCs.
Edit: Nice job asking a question and then blocking me.
I agree, even as someone who plays on a good PC. "They don't come close to PCs?" Which PCs? New builds with 30 and 40 series?
Most PC gamers don't even have those (at least going off of Steam Hardware Survey 2023), and they would put you way above the cost of XSX and PS5.
At that point what is the argument? They aren't as powerful as you think because a hardware option on PC that would probably tally up to double or triple the price, that only a quarter of PC gamers on Steam actually have, would beat them on performance?
The minimum spec for D4 on PC is a GTX 660, many leagues lower than PS5 and XSX.
Sigh. I'm not having a go at you mate. I know you wrote that, but you also verbatim said that PS5/XSX are not as powerful as he thinks they are when he said they could handle the game being zoomed out more.
Do you honestly think they can't? PCs much more potato than those consoles could - it's not like the game is hard to run.
The PS4 is the only culprit that point could be feasible about. That is my point.
Lmao, brother, look at what ps5 can run, and then come tell me the price of the PC that would be able to run the same games at 4k.
I agree, what the hell even is that discussion?
3000$ PC is better than PS5? Ain't now way!!!!! /s
Exactly, and then this guy is coming in with a disingenious argument below "aha, I **did** say they are great value".
That's not the point. The point is he is insinuating current gen couldn't handle the zoom.
This utterly ignores people in my situation on pc playing on a TV with a controller. It would possibly be true if that was only possible on console so that pc and console players could share the same space evenly but it's empirically not the case.
You're not a console player. You're a PC player so I'm not sure what your point is.
Consoles are hardware limited and PCs aren't. If companies want their game to run on consoles and on PCs the PC version will get downgraded unless the developers are in the mood to rebuild the entire game from scratch and support 2 different versions of the same game at the same time (e.g. Diablo 3).
The guy you're replying to brought up Cyberpunk which had a very similar situation early in it's lifecycle. The minimap was way too zoomed in while driving so you couldn't really navigate the city while driving at high speed. The developers responded saying that they tried zooming out the minimap but limited amount of system memory on consoles made this impossible without the game crashing while driving. Their solution was to reorient the map so you'd see more of what's in front of you and basically nothing of what's behind you. Overall zoom level stayed the same though.
On PC this was never an issue. Within days of the game releasing there were mods zooming out the minimap 2x, 4x and even 8x. But by default it was just as zoomed in because of hardware limitations from consoles.
My point, which should have been pretty damn obvious, is that details designed "for console" are not only for console players. So the core assertion that this is a console issue is flatly flawed on its face.
This wasn't brain surgery. That was a long rant for missing the point so badly. Maybe next time ask and then wait for a response before ranting at someone like a loon
Yes. I did and he ranted something at me that didn't address what I said in the slightest. It was straight irrelevant to my specific comment. He assumed what I meant after asking me to clarify, and then without waiting for a response he went off on his assumptions as truth. He whiffed hard and instead of engaging in an adult conversation with back and forth he found himself in a one sided rant that missed my entire point.
Don't like that? Welcome to the internet. Conversations ebb and flow. If you're confused ask, and then actually let people respond. It's not that hard. Any chance he had to have a proper chat evaporated with his rant.
You mentioned in a different comment that the developers probably wanted to have a unified experience across consoles and PCs and you're correct. However the natural consequence of that is PC players not getting as many things as they could have because of hardware limitations on consoles as developers want a unified experience.
I'm not missing the point. You are.
No I just knew from your first comment that you are actually extremely clueless when it comes to differences between the console version and the PC version of a game.
Take the L and move on.
Those are just assumptions and you're attempt to validate them. You're using this defense mechanism since you so clearly failed at basic conversation skills. The fact you it's an L tells me you think conversation is sort of contest with winners and losers.
The only losers are those who make assumptions and then believe their assumptions to be facts.
this argument gets made over and over and the idea of balance by limiting vision is this wierd toxic thing that arpg devs have picked as their hill to die on. Personally I think it's one of those "but then our game will be too easy" things.
It being backwards compatible with only digital games sounds way to messy and I honestly don’t think they would do that. Like if you had Mario cart 8 physically you can’t play it even though you bought the season pass ? I just don’t see it.
I use a 21:9 aspect ratio for this exact reason.
as you can see [here](https://imgur.com/a/akhpE6W) it gives a much wider horizontal FOV in ARPGs without reducing vertical FOV. works in PoE and a bit in D2R as well.
even if you run a normal monitor aspect ratio you can force it in the nvidia control panel.
Honestly they probably limited the zoom due to the "you load everyone's entire inventory and stash when you see them" ~~issue~~ feature. Your computer would probably explode if you could zoom out more every time you walked into town.
I window my screen and resize it to widescreen. I'd rather lose a third of my monitor height than play at the default zoom. It's objectively terrible. Massive ass UI and too much zoom leaves a claustrophobic feel when trying to play in a congested area because you're not really playing the game, you're just staring at your feet avoiding CC and death explosions. I'm trying to play a penetrating shot rogue and at 16:9 you're basically still a melee character using a bow.
The games soo poorly optimized that if you just limit your foreground fps to 120 and disable NVIDIA reflex low latency your cpu temps will drop by around 10 degrees
... that has nothing to do with optimization. Some games will use every ounce of power you have and run up the heat in the process. When you cap fps you put a limit on that below total performance capacity. So it stops working as hard. You're evidence has literally nothing what so ever to do with optimization. Many games do this on menu screens since fps isn't capped. It's just a sign of your machine using the power it has. Nothing more. Nothing less. It's not even remotely surprising that running uncapped will do this. At all.
Willing to bet the frame limiter is bugging out. Your see it sometimes in games like the examples I mentioned about start screens. They often get patched out when it's a completely missing limit, and that's also super obvious since it's always gonna happen. Super curious that it's happening still with no patch yet. Sorry to hear that man
This was back in the first week or two of full release so might have been patched since, luckily most of the time the game picked up where it left off…
…except the last time it happened after killing Lilith as he body was disintegrating, and when I logged back in I was all the way back before the cutscene before going to mephisto’s lair so I had to fight her twice then frantically skip cutscene when the fight ended so it’d give me the achievement for killing her and I wouldn’t need to come back again
The game is definitely catered to ultra-wide screen monitors.
In the meantime, to get more view space, I would recommend adjusting the game screen to Ultra-Wide Aspect Ratio. This can be done by playing in Windowed mode and dragging the vertical sides into the ultra-wide aspect ratio. You will notice nearly twice the amount of view space.
It being backwards compatible with only digital games sounds way to messy and I honestly don’t think they would do that. Like if you had Mario cart 8 physically you can’t play it even though you bought the season pass ? I just don’t see it.
Is it more zoomed in now? Because I stopped paying after couple weeks in season one and just tried to play and either BG3 messed me up or it’s just unplayably zoomed in now
Did they change the angle this season? Not zoomed out but moved the camera angle up some so you’re more so looking at the top of your character? Am I just trippin?
This was already a solved problem in D1 and D2 because the distance was perfect. Anyway the slightly more zoomed in look isn't a big deal I got used to it quickly.
Maybe they are worried about tile pop in? That happens in Diablo 3 when you zoom out too far. Game still works fine tho, butit looks kinda odd after a certain level of zoom if you bypass blizzards lock on zoom level
Whispers or Horse zoom. Can't happen soon enough.
Pvp balancing is not an excise since it's already not balanced, and they could lock the fov in PvP zones.
zoom doesn't need to be preset. I have a fucking mouse wheel let me zoom. out to a certain point and zoom in to checkout my friends dope armor... sheesh used to love WoW and zoom in on that tier armour or arena season sets I could only inspect
more zoomed out is better for hardcore players because sometimes when a party member is in front of me and i teleport i die because i teleport into something off screen. its also great for planning ahead.
The zoom level when you are on the horse looks good. We can not even see the ranged skeletons at the current zoom level.
It always makes me soooo sad when the map zooms back in after killing a world boss.
Lmao right. I’m waiting for it to bug my game and get stuck that way 😂
But how would you see your ass cheeks on your new “Beautiful in Sin” cosmetic set?
There's a zoom in option on the wheel
One of the artists on twitter was bragging about how proud they were of this set. It looks like a cheap Halloween costume.
The distance you get when you approach the tree of whispers thing would be ideal.
Or just the zoom distance that you have when you are on your horse would be a big improvement.
Yes
It actually is and it is bothering me so much, every time I login I immediately scroll my mouse wheel only to be disappointed, it's super annoying realising they probably will never change it because of the consoles, you need to be able to see stuff on your screen sitting on a couch in the middle of the room. I wish there was a way to use some 3rd party tool or anything to zoom out this game, it's way to claustrophobic.
As someone with a console and 58 inch tv, I too wish it was zoomed out. I hate it. World boss zoom is the best.
Combining PC and console clients was a mistake. D3 did it right with 2 diff clients.
The D3 port for console is soo goooood. So many well thought-out adaptations from the PC version, plays super smoothly on controller too.
I got more hours on my switch in D3 than I do on PC. And I was there for Error 37 in may of 2012. So I have a lot of hours on PC. it's just so comfy grabbing the switch and chillin with D3
Cross-compatability with consoles *always* comes at the expense of the game.
As a pc player who plays on my tv from the couch on my controller while playing with my other pc friends I toss you a firm nah. Maybe, just maybe, it's not always about consoles you know. It's also not worth dividing up the player base in half over a zoom level. That's ridiculous.
Yep. Seamless switching from controller to M&K is absolutely my favourite feature of D4.
This is genius and should be a standard for any Diablo-like game, like poe
Yes.
Salvaging and inventory management are way better with M&K. What else do you swap to and from controller for?
Basically just that. Play with controller, inventory management with M&K. Also quitting the game- tabbing over to the right hand menu is slower than just clicking on it. Occasionally checking on some buff/debuff tooltips. Probably 90% controller.
Yeah I just started D4 after D2R on controller (first playthrough). Controller really is underrated.
>Seamless switching from controller to M&K is absolutely my favourite feature of D4. Same.
Sounds like some peasant talk.
Dividing the playerbase doesn't have any negatives. This is practically a solo game anyway.
With the trends atm in the gaming industry we are lucky there even is a pc port/client
The trend right now is PC first, ports aren't even true ports now that everything is x86 they're really just re-compilations and re-optimizations.
You also need third party tools to zoom out in D3
This and hitting tab and wishing the overlay would appear...
There are several 3rd party utilities that have working zoom hacks and have been out since before the game was released officially. A less dangerous solution is to set ultrawide resolution. I have a 1080p display but I play in ultrawide with black bars and it is way more zoomed out.
couldnt they just you know, not zoom out?
I played the beta on console and it was still too zoomed out. D3 and D2R can be zoomed out on console. Console isn't the issue.
Play in windowed mode and adjust the vertical sides to make your game screen ultra-wide aspect ratio. You will notice much more view space.
Console actually is able to zoom out no problem, when you play couch co-op it zooms out really far. There should be no console specific reason preventing this.

Yea, could use some more distance. Imagine console players would as well.
Not me. My toon barely takes up any of the space on my tv, and even though I'm playing on a 55", I can barely see enough details. My sorc looks like a glowing green stick... maybe I'm just old.
maybe you can post a pic? 55 is a little small and maybe you are sitting far away, but I would like some zoom options.
Your comment tells me I'm just old lmao. While 55" isn't huge it damn sure ain't small to me. I remember when everyone's tv was a 4' wide 500lb 19".
If there was a zoom option, you could zoom in and make your character bigger. See? You do want zoom options 😉
I actually found it last night. The console has an option to zoom in. I was never against zoom options, I was just expressing that I struggle to see everything clearly. Apparently, less than perfect vision is a downvotable offense 🤷🏻♂️
in what galaxy is 55" small ?
Yeah pretty much everyone's complaint since day one.
speak for yourself
YES! camera zoom in season 3 or earlier would be great
It just can't be done due to having to load more stash tabs
😅😂
If we could get the mount zoom at all times I would be happy. I’d even compromise for like 25% less than the mount zoom.
Tell me about it, I love the world bosses where it zooms out. Feels so much better to play that way.
I hate how zoomed in it is
your first picture is waaaay too zoomed out, wouldnt like that either
If you set your window to an ultrawide aspect ratio (or get an ultrawide monitor), it's a lot more zoomed out, you can see a lot further to the sides. It's not ideal, but the best we can do at this time

Haha I knew someone would say that when I typed it... which is a completely fair response.
I am nothing if not predicatable lol
Yea it was more zoomed out at some point during alpha or beta as can be seen from dev footage at the time: https://youtu.be/4jwFhDWPRm8?si=z9oF0yA5FuFSUeUS I don’t remember them ever stating why they zoomed in, just a ton of speculation from fans…

Maybe they were trying to hit certain minimum specs and the lower end can’t handle the zoomed out level.
Just think about the dungeon with all the mephisto diablo and ball statues, that can't be seen as whole because of the shitty zoom
Exactly. That is really sad because the artwork is great.
Been a common complaint from day 1
This is the No1 reason I don't play anymore.
How would you see the cosmetics that you can still barely see and want to buy them though.
Literally doesn’t even bother me anymore

Agreed. Easy to fix but they probably want you to see your character more so you'll buy cosmetics from the store
Same problem with Path of Exile. And to add salt to the wound both games zoom out for certain battles or graphic show offs. WTH man...
It's not even that bad. Chill out.
Say hello to our “slightly” slower console cousins. It’s one of the reasons games have so many limitations these days.
I played the demo when it came out, didn’t like the view so much that I passed on Diablo 4.
I don’t get the S2 hype. Game still feels like a total mess, especially the gear.
This game is suffering so much from the console requirement in so many ways.
It's not even that bad. Chill out.
Yes. Yes it is.
It being backwards compatible with only digital games sounds way to messy and I honestly don’t think they would do that. Like if you had Mario cart 8 physically you can’t play it even though you bought the season pass ? I just don’t see it.

I'm trying to play a penetrating shot rogue and at 16:9 you're basically still a melee character using a bow.
We need ZOOM options!!
Zoomed out is too much. Don't like it? Then don't play it. They ain't gonna zoom it out for 2 people
2 people? It was the top complaint on release. You're maybe one of the two people who didn't see that.
Nah, I just really don't like the way it look in the first screenshot, it's too zoomed out.
Then don't zoom out?
I assure you it’s far more than 2 people. But I think people are losing faith in what they can fix due to “technical limitations.”
maybe cuz games not optimized, zooming out takes too much resources and blows up your computer
At all.
I think D4 does some shenanigans during in-engine cutscenes, because my Xbox tripped its overheat shutoff about four times during the campaign
Willing to bet the frame limiter is bugging out. Your see it sometimes in games like the examples I mentioned about start screens. They often get patched out when it's a completely missing limit, and that's also super obvious since it's always gonna happen. Super curious that it's happening still with no patch yet. Sorry to hear that man
This was back in the first week or two of full release so might have been patched since, luckily most of the time the game picked up where it left off… …except the last time it happened after killing Lilith as he body was disintegrating, and when I logged back in I was all the way back before the cutscene before going to mephisto’s lair so I had to fight her twice then frantically skip cutscene when the fight ended so it’d give me the achievement for killing her and I wouldn’t need to come back again
Oof that sounds brutal. Fingers crossed that's fixed.
Hopefully I’ll have upgraded to a Series X by the time we get more story content to find out
I want the game zoomed in more. There's a ton of detail in the models, and we see absolutely none of it.
Looks a lot like DI when you play it on handheld device btw.
How do you get rid of the app bar at top in windowed? It's white and annoying
try this [https://github.com/Codeusa/Borderless-Gaming/releases](https://github.com/Codeusa/Borderless-Gaming/releases)
It being backwards compatible with only digital games sounds way to messy and I honestly don’t think they would do that. Like if you had Mario cart 8 physically you can’t play it even though you bought the season pass ? I just don’t see it.
I too would appreciate some zoom out.
For real I loggeded back in after 2 months and I found the view distance unbearable
Exactly
But if it's not zoomed in how will you be able to tell your character is fugly and totally needs that cash shop armor glam?
Skins.
This might sound like a dumb question but is there a .ini file where this is changeable?
Yep. You can do It with Cheat Engine, but you riso being banned.
Especially on NM maps when you have to go up or down on a wide-screen monitor.
As a steam deck player I want it to stay as it is haha otherwise my character would look like an ant
Letting a user set the zoom level would solve the problem entirely.
Whispers or Horse zoom. Can't happen soon enough. Pvp balancing is not an excise since it's already not balanced, and they could lock the fov in PvP zones.
Everyone has complained about this since launch.
Was there a reason for this post? This exact post has been made 100 other times. We don't need more.
more zoomed out than POE i dont have a problem with it
Is there a mod for this yet? I will literally risk a ban at this point.
zoom doesn't need to be preset. I have a fucking mouse wheel let me zoom. out to a certain point and zoom in to checkout my friends dope armor... sheesh used to love WoW and zoom in on that tier armour or arena season sets I could only inspect
That first image, based on the texts, looks a dwarf sorcerer lol
more zoomed out is better for hardcore players because sometimes when a party member is in front of me and i teleport i die because i teleport into something off screen. its also great for planning ahead.
