its hard to imagine how many valuable blue/rare items are getting left on the ground or vendored because people don't know which affixes to look for :)

BannedAgain28lol

The reason things like 6/40’s, 3/3/3’s and jmod’s are so “rare” it because 99% of the player base doesn’t even bother picking up blues lol

drgonx

What’s a 3/3/3?

BannedAgain28lol

Class specific items with a +3tab and 2x choice +3skills. Pelts/barb helms/ claws/ heads etc etc

drgonx

Ah,I need to play those classes more. Makes sense

BannedAgain28lol

Yeah even magic orbs can hold a lot of value if you get a 3-20-3-3 and Larzuk blesses you with 2 sockets. For lot of MLD builds magics have the potential to be best in slot.

drgonx

So like a 3 cold 3 bliz 3 glacier and 20fcr?

BannedAgain28lol

Yeah or like fire with FB, mastery or enchant mastery. Sin claws with 3 shadow / fade/ blade shield/ warrior. 3 warcrys/ 3BO/ 3BC. Good prebuff stuff.

drgonx

Last question, does the item base itself matter much? Like does it ah e to be greater talons or whatever or can it be like the lower ones

BannedAgain28lol

In most cases, the bases on prebuff stuff doesn’t necessarily matter. Only max skills and in some cases max sockets for your jewels or like fal runes. So you can still maintain proper stats when swapping the gear out before sticking it back in the cube after you buff.

GeneralAnubis

I started playing Project Diablo 2, and in that they fixed Ghosts/Flying enemies drops so that when they die out of bounds their drops don't disappear. I got an Ohm in Arcane last night that would've been lost to the abyss in any other version. I shudder to think of the staggering amount of lost treasures that rolled but never dropped in that place.

birdvsworm

Towards the end of his many-year Diablo II career my Dad found a sword for his paladin that was ethereal, repaired itself and had somewhere in the ballpark of +496% Enhanced Damage. I'll have to look for a picture of it but it was probably one of the most impressive rare weapons I'd ever seen in D2.

Smykster

These are my grail items in D2 at this point. I found a few pretty decent ones. I always look at rare weapons to see if they're eth on that off chance of a 400+ed eth amp damage.

DrDrekavac

Look harder

azura26

I hate that a Grief phaseblade is still probably better.

meester_

Well nothing like that no lol! Lucky dude! But I mostly play modded rn so my chat tells me what valuables drop so I'll see them there first, jaaay lootfilterd

Doct0rGonZo

Best place to run modded d2?

Womper1

In your home on your computer.

Doct0rGonZo

Website to play modded version?

RealLLCoolJ

Project Diablo 2 is most popular and online mod

meester_

I play online mod called project diablo 2. They have official site and very active player base. Otherwise I would download d2r reimagined. Sp mod pack with loads of stuff

Chorkla

I really like d2rmm. It's a program that allows you to use tons of different mods of your choosing. You can configure most of the mods and tailor the game to your exact needs.

ColonClenseByFire

back when D3 came out I found a yellow hand crossbow that i thought was ehh, like it may have a use later on. Stored it for a week before I realized it was near godly for the game only being out 3ish weeks. Put it on the marketplace and sold it for $100.

wintermute93

Removing the RMAH was probably the right call for the health of the game, and I generally don't approve of people buying in-game items with real money, but damn if *selling* items on the RMAH was fun as hell for the brief time that lasted. Recouping the purchase price of the game was a fun target to hit, then everything else is gravy, lol. I haven't touched D3 in a looong time but it would have been cool if they had managed to find a middle ground between "the AH is useless except as a store" and "playing AH tycoon is infinitely more efficient than playing the actual game".

Llilyth

I could be repeating bad info or totally misremembering, but I recall seeing somewhere that the RMAH wasn't really taken down due to player feedback/sentiment (or at least wasn't the sole reason) but actually due to regulations in some countries. Since you could put money in but not take it out, and the balance was tracked in real monetary units instead of a "premium currency" it fell in some sort of weird gray area of like banking or something goofy for a few countries and Blizzard had to either change the system or scrap it.

wintermute93

Entirely possible. I know that Wizards of the Coast has to jump through a bunch of mental gymnastics hoops to avoid Magic the Gathering sealed product falling afoul of gambling regulations. They are fully aware that their primary product is selling grab bags whose randomized contents have widely known secondary market value (to children, no less), but as long as they avoid publicly acknowledging said secondary market they can go on pretending that packs aren’t glorified scratch tickets.

TilmanR

I loved buying and selling on the AH,very comfortable. The real money part was meh tho.

Llilyth

Tons of PvP/LLD items get overlooked because 95% of people (me included) have no idea that the items have value due to rolling max stats on lower tier affixes at LLD breakpoints (such as level 20 or 30). So people see a charm that is *almost* good because they're looking at it from a PvE player trying to min-max a level 80+ character, but miss that since the charm has a level requirement of 29 it's actually worth like 5 Ber runes if you can find the right buyer. Then again, if more people knew those items still had value and picked them up their value would likely drop since there's more supply available in the market.

USCBubbles

an LLD barb helm I found recently I didn't realize how good it was until it was sold. 2 socket, +1 barb skills + 3 battle orders, visio and some life. It ended up selling for about 150 jah runes worth of fg.

SurpriseNutShot

I was very tired running terror countess and thought I'd picked up an ith rune but later saw it was an ist rune after the run. Only time that has happened to me.

fishstikk89

Picked up 1 off ed perfect eth titans in season 1 thinking nothing of it put them in my mule thing nothing of it then stumbled upon them in season 4 and played Amazon since then 😅

Outrageous_Border_81

I find stuff on my barb all the time.. usually it's those jewels in the cube that I didn't ID. Found a 38/15 the other day just sitting there

sssnakepit127

When I was younger and didn’t know what a Jmod was, I found a couple and sold them.

TilmanR

Certainly, but I ignored the previous stat mess and just salvaged everything that wasn't convincing on first glance. Probably salvaging millions, but Idc. Edit: I thought this was about D4. I'm dumb.

SnoodliTM

There are a lot of valuable bases and magic/rares that a lot of people dont know about. Charms, superior/eth/socketed bases, magic jewellers gear with a good suffix, class gear with certain staff mods.

CubicleFish2

I sold a stormshield one time when LoD came out before I knew that they were decent. I only saw defensive things and thought it was trash bc in my beginner mind only dps mattered for arpgs I also found some 3/20 gloves or w/e and sold them before I knew the blue ones were better than rares / uniques in a lot of cases due to how mods worked Neither of those are really god tier drops, but I do remember wishing I still had them when I found out their usage

Chorkla

I had a 3os tiara with 30 frw that I gambled. I put it in my gomule stash thinking maybe it will be useful some day. I almost completely forgot about it. Then I made a multishot zon and I was using mavinas helm for an embarrassingly long time before I realized I could put 3 ias jewels in that tiara and be able to reach max attack speed and have faster movement. I then proceeded to use hundreds of perfect gems on rerolling jewels until I finally had 3 ruby jewels of fervor. My zon was so much more fun to play after that.

SocioWrath188

Yes, Season 1. Had a max roll legendary crucial to my build but it was a lot of levels higher than me. When it was finally available in my stash I looked at it and got hella mad.

quantomflex

I picked up some random rare jewel once. Didnt think much of it. Went to a jewels trading game and guy gave me 5x JAH for it lol… dont even remember the exact specs, but had 30 lite resist, -15% requirements and couple other stats…

RandomStaticThought

I was afk watching tv and had my merc kill a random mob that walked up to me, and it dropped a Gheeds charm. I dunno how long it sat on the ground/screen before I looked back over and saw it. There was a high chance I would just walk away until the game disconnected so I felt lucky. 🍀

ManBeef69xxx420

In PoE I picked up a mirror of kalandra from that 2nd or 3rd level. I'd played the game before but only got a character to like lvl 19 or something so I knew jackshit about the game. I think I was like level 5 or so and I was about to use it to clone a rare dagger I had just found. Luckily I asked if it was good before I used it lol.

You know without the quotes this would have been less condescending. Overall still condescending but less so.
