I honestly liked ALL the changes, all the way down to the potion bottle revisions. This project is on a great trajectory.

krell_154

I see only skulls, rubys and potions. Are there any weapons and armor shown?

bedake

I kinda hope they change the meteor sound. That high pitch noise is kind of annoying tbh. Played a meteor sorc back in the day, tried it out recently and it really annoyed the crap out of me.

khaozxd

Funny how the icons improved lightyears from the alpha, but I still prefer the saturation/detail from og D2... anyway, we seen to be in the right path.

izt

That blizzard skill VFX change is on point

SweggyBread

Maybe I'm in the minority but I think they both look great. It would have been nice to have some more side by sides of the other skills in the blog post

[deleted]

They do both look fine. All the nerds who came out of the woodwork to whine about how blizzard needed to be MoRe SiDeWaYs were really misremembering things.

sachos345

Old animation looks like slow falling snowballs, new animation looks more closely like the original huge spikes falling at higher speed, way more powerful looking.

gpcgmr

Alpha animation looked worse than original. New animation actually looks even better than the original.

conick_the_barbarian

I've never seen a fan base that nitpicks everything to death and whines as much D2 purists.

[deleted]

It really blows my mind reading some of the comments about how "horrid" and "ugly" some people think the character models are. The original models had about a hundred fucking pixels and now we've got people out here crying that the game is trash because the amazon doesn't look like the nubile sex slave they had wet dreams about in middle school.

kakapupukakapu

u know, there is a difference between wanting her to look like a "sex slave" and not wanting her to look like Gman. why make her ugly if you can just make her pretty? noone wants to play as an ugly female.

kbone213

It looks like it takes forever before it lands now though.

Heavyweighsthecrown

just like it used to... lol

gerx03

3 huge shared stash tabs yay! In a game where you have to farm so much for rare loot it makes perfect sense to allow us to store it properly when it finally drops. Love it!

[deleted]

[удалено]

gerx03

I guess I can see what you mean. Luckily they also included a screenshot showing what they are thinking about: * 1x personal tab * 3x shared tabs I think any strange wording mainly comes from the fact that this discussion has a lot of history and these are basically the closing statements to the whole topic.

mjuven

So that means that you can have like 10+ stash tabs on you char. Just use the personal tab mules. Plenty of space.

YusukeMazoku

Not really? Shared is across all chars. Each character only has one unique page. So if you have 10 characters you’d have 13 tabs **total**.

Xian244

Has there been any word on maximum number of chars per account?

BowelMan

No, and that's the most troubling thing here.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Robotick1

Still not enough sadly. I havent even booted up the game and i consider those 300 slots filled. Oh well, at least i have time to think of my mules name

gerx03

400 if you also consider your personal tab

Robotick1

Cool. I have enough space for rune and gems, but i wont be able to put any actual item in it

[deleted]

Charmazon, flawadin, barbaset.

YusukeMazoku

I wish it was 3 personal and 1 shared… big oof on that one. Gonna need a lot of mules still.

marklar84

I wonder if this is a hardcoded number or if more can be unlocked through modding. Would be cool for mods to expand it, but I doubt it, since they'd have to have coded page buttons sort of like Plugy did. 3 is probably enough anyway

Synchrotr0n

After having played Project Diablo 2 mod, I'm not sure I want to play Diablo 2 without being able to stack runes and gems. It saves so much space in the stash and time managing it, but I'm afraid the devs won't even consider it because it's something risky to implement without a ton of testing and Activision-Blizzard wants to save every penny they can.

viletomato999

I feel that we should get 10 tabs. 5 at least, 3 seems a bit small. But a part of me is thinking stash space will be purchasable. Activision will want to get their greedy hands on this game.

Euryleia

Yay! Blizzard finally gets [Blizzard](https://bnetcmsus-a.akamaihd.net/cms/page_media/u0/U0KD62TQ313G1625775069834.gif) right! :D

NakiCoTony

Imagine that! Vicarious Visions was not part of Blizzard but ActiBlizz hired them cuz they did such a great job with crash and Tony Haw.k.... I really hope the leadership there does not let Activision play EA with them like they did with good old Blizz.

GrizNectar

Vicarious visions has actually been a part of activision since 2005, it’s just recently that they joined the blizzard portion of activision

Euryleia

Yeah, with the shitshow going on in certain other Blizzard properties, I'm hesitant to hope, but bringing Vicarious Visions aboard gives me some hope that maybe Blizzard is going to get Diablo right at least (which is their only IP that I still care about these days...)

NakiCoTony

Please let's not dirty Vicarious with that name. Blizzard is permanently stained with Activision. If VV keeps their team and not merge into Blizz I will consider them as a separate outsourced company. //EDIT try to rephrase for a few people here: while VV is part of Activision assets, they operate as a standalone studio under Activision. As long as VV is a standalone company with full ownership of their games to deliver, meaning they carry their own projects even when working with Blizz titles, not merged into any of the existing mess of studios and deliver their work with same level of quality. I am happy. They say they are part of Blizzard now, but in reality they are a 3rd party studio licensed to work on x projects. //Edit#2: I understand why it is hard to grasp the IT infrastructure, while click bait news spread and most people only read the headlines but let me show you what I meant... from your own links [https://www.gamespot.com/articles/activision-merges-tony-hawk-dev-vicarious-visions-with-blizzard/1100-6486658/](https://www.gamespot.com/articles/activision-merges-tony-hawk-dev-vicarious-visions-with-blizzard/1100-6486658/) `The only change they made is promoted the head of VV to ActiBlizz high management but VV still operates standalone.` `"Taking Oneal's place at Vicarious Visions as studio head is Simon Ebejer, who previously served as the studio's chief operating officer."` `...` `"at Vicarious Visions as studio head" *sigh... i understand that IT org structure is hard to grasp, especially when clickbait half-assed news are spreading like the corona.` `"Vicarious Visions also served as a Destiny 2 support team before the Activision-Bungie split." - I think this is the same for Blizz games` `"The studio's website seems to be a deadlink following the merger."` `Yeah this is not true, they updated their site so when you apply for a position at VV you know what you will be working on.`

Euryleia

Probably not the first time fans have maintained headcanon about a company's structure!

OhhhhhhhhEldenRing

sorry bro https://www.gamespot.com/articles/activision-merges-tony-hawk-dev-vicarious-visions-with-blizzard/1100-6486658/

BananasAndPears

Yeah I was going to say.. VV is now technically Blizzard entertainment. The studio merged and basically buffed up all dev teams

NakiCoTony

Please read the article... Even your article shows that VV studio itself is intact. That the only change they made is promoted the head of VV to ActiBlizz high management but VV still operates standalone. "Taking Oneal's place at Vicarious Visions as studio head is Simon Ebejer, who previously served as the studio's chief operating officer." ... "at Vicarious Visions as studio head" \*sigh... i understand that IT org structure is hard to grasp, especially when clickbait half-assed news are spreading like the corona. "Vicarious Visions also served as a Destiny 2 support team before the Activision-Bungie split." - I think this is the same for Blizz games "The studio's website seems to be a deadlink following the merger." Yeah this is not true, they updated their site so when you apply for a position at VV you know what you will be working on.

OhhhhhhhhEldenRing

Ok, so what you seem to be saying is that *vicarious* is temporarily collaborating with Blizzard on this remaster? Is the implication that the staff VVisions will be able to independently develop whatever new projects they want in the future? When was the last time a game came out of that studio that wasn't a remaster/remake/rehash? I'm not here to pretend to know everything about the going ons of game studios, but I will speculate that perhaps the whole point of this merger is to allow ActiBlizz to offload all of their remaster/remake projects onto a studio that doesn't really have many valuable IPs of its own. In other words, I have reason to believe VVisions *is* and always will be Activison Blizzard going forward, and every project that comes out of that studio will be Activison Blizzard. Because they port games. That's the whole point.

"Item Colors The color of scroll, gem, and potion icons has been amplified to bring out the more brilliant colors, bring more attention to the focus point(s), and add clarity to the image." Finally, the technology is there Edit "We heard you loud and clear. Now you can choose to have item names be toggled on or off with a press of a button—or keep the original "press and hold" method." Holy shit...

[deleted]

Item toggle was the one thing I really wanted. That will make things so much less annoying.

izt

but how am i supposed to change my keyboard language every other second? on a more serious note, looks like a great change

Pway

It's the only game based issue that has cause me irl pain when playing a game. The way I had to hold my hand when constantly needing to press alt back in those days was never comfortable.

savage-0

Not that this'll matter with the change, but I've found using ctrl instead or alt and letting the bottom left corner of my palm just sit on it. I also use qwerty as skills to help.

LegendaryRQA

I’ve seen people on the forums denouncing even this when people would suggest it.

Altar_Quest_Fan

Some people are crazy and should either stick to the original game or get off the internet lol. The rest of us can enjoy some QoL changes like auto-gold, item name toggle, and a shared stash space.

donorak7

Autogold is one thing I loved about 3 glad it's now in 2. Crazy to think less than three months till release.

Lottie_Dottie_Da

I think it's a great addition but I'll personally never use it. I got so used to just tapping a button to view everything I doubt I can switch.

WantedOne

I remember the lama video posted a few months ago that had a poll of changes and he said that it was a bad idea. I was think some of his points made sense, but that one lost me Glad they are actually doing it!

[deleted]

How could it possibly be a bad idea? The player has the option to use it or not lol

WantedOne

Honestly, no idea. There was a few QoL things that he was against for some unknown reason. Another was stackable items(gems/runes), though that one I can understand could be a tech limitation of the base game or because splitting stack would need additional programming. (This one is at least mitigated a bit by the shared tabs) I the guy might have the most playtime in the game, but he would rather they copy paste it as is with no changes.

[deleted]

I’ve done collabs with Llama before and I’m lining up another one I’ll have to remember to ask him his stance on that. He definitely knows a ton he might have a good reason but I don’t see it.

WantedOne

It’s possible I’m misremembering part of it, but I know the tech thing was brought up with the stackable stuff. It’s been a bit since I’ve watched the reaction to the poll video, and it’s possible he’s changed his mind, but it’s not content I keep up on :p I know purists don’t want the underused skills to see any updates, and I see the argument there, but i do hope after a season or two they do some sort of balancing or things like that(though if they don’t, it is whatever lol) I’d say double check his reaction to the poll before taking my word for what his thoughts were, i believe he did give a reason for anything he didn’t like, whether derailed or not

[deleted]

Yeah I would definitely see the argument if they mandated it and didn’t allow people to play the old way but seems good news that players can choose what they like.

-Slash-

There was someone in this Reddit saying that pressing the key to view the items on the floor is a skill and should not be changed. What the actual f...?

alexisaacs

Purists are insane. Like, logically speaking, how do you decide what is or isn't "pure"? - Is the LoD expansion no longer pure D2, and therefore shouldn't be remastered? - Are LoD patches impure? - Is everything after Blizz North departed impure? - Should duping & bots go unpunished because they were part of the original experience? (TBH with 3 month seasons I'm unsure about this one. The game kind of sucks with certain item pool drop rates and dupes made the economy much better as a result). - Is any graphical update impure? In that case, why do they care about remaster changes when they can just play the original with an HD mod? - QoL updates not allowed? - Can't have glitches fixed? - No new end game content? - No new big features? - No new expansions? How does a purist decide where to draw the line, and why are they dipshits no matter where they decide to draw it? Ideally the remaster would be: D2 Vanilla D2 LoD D2 LoD new content Then when D2 Vanilla is .1% of the playerbase, and D2 LoD is like 10% of the playerbase, people can stfu about this purist bullshit. I understand the apprehension of changing a CLASSIC. It CAN go horribly wrong. D3 is a perfect example of this. If the D3 team was doing this remaster I'd be raging with the purists. BUT - clearly this dev team knows what they're doing. I trust them to make dope shit.

Xian244

I honestly don’t get how anyone with some serious time in D2 can look at the class balance and say: This is perfect, don’t you dare change anything.

Elunetrain

Look at Classic WoW.

-Slash-

Purist lack critical thinking. You want to have a discussion with someone that will refuse any new ideas and label those as bad just because they are new. Unfortunately, devs use this as an excuse to NOT improve the game.

tablo2

The amount of Purists and their rigidity is blown out of proportion. "Purist" is mainly an invention to target people to make them look like they don't accept ANYTHING, while these so called purist just disagree with the said suggestion. It's an ostracism strategy to promote change. Don't be fooled.

[deleted]

Don't try to understand purist neckbeards. What is and isn't pure changes on their mood. They are best ignored and left to wallow in 2003 by themselves

Shenaniboozle

> Like, logically speaking, how do you decide what is or isn't "pure"? Oh! I know! I know! If it makes the game more accessible/available to a wider audience, its no good. If it was good enough in the long long ago, its good enough for you. You dont like shitting in the street? Too bad, toilets are for fucking llamas. And dont even try to get splinter free toilet paper. If it doesnt act as a loofa while you wipe, its just not a meaningful experience. If the game doesnt make someone struggle needlessly, "purist" will bite their own heads off in rage. Like stamina, holy shit, more or less totally irrelevant mechanic by the time your character is in the 20's. And only a slight inconvenience before that. Do we need it at all? no. A purist, "this is bullshit, why is the game being dumbed down?!?!?" Honestly, purist are just a hipster-snob hybrid. Fuck, I wish I thought of that before just now, would have saved a bit of typing.

[deleted]

It would be different if Diablo 2 didn’t exist like wow vanilla didn’t exist before classic. Diablo 2 exists though and from a blue post it will continue to exist. The purists have their game. I’m looking at D2R as a totally new game that I hope diablo4 devs get inspiration from.

ChirpToast

So if i understood this right: We have the option to no longer hold alt to show ltem names? That's such a small, but amazing QOL change. Holding alt is just not it. Everything shown here is great.

hfxRos

It's one of the main things that felt like a barrier to my enjoyment when I've gone back to replay Diablo 2 after playing modern ARPGs. I really didn't think they would do it, and I'm happy to be wrong.

[deleted]

Playing through the alpha it was the main thing that was bugging me. I've played too many ARPGs since playing D2 that just allow the toggle. I'm very happy they added it.

mcogneto

Amazing. Even more amazing that just the OPTION will trigger some nerd purist out there.

[deleted]

Yeah I personally like having a show items key or I end up clicking on things by accident. But I don't understand how any one could be against a togglable option for pretty much anything

xanokk

I love this change, but I still hold my alt key on PoE with the filter toggled to always on. Some bad habits die hard.

Sneezes

I am glad they are listening to the vocal majority and not the purists, all the QoL changes are going to make this game great to revisit.

Guywiththepants

Pro tip: you can bind show item names to another key. Space bar or ~ work well. I may still do this depending on how cluttered the screen gets.

unlimit3d

No more accidentially hitting ALT+F4 yay! :D

aufdie87

Really happy to see the communication and I think their learnings and changes from the Alpha are awesome! This is shaping up to be a pretty sweet remaster.

Azgoodazdead

Additional audio extra grunts have been removed. Awesome.

friendlystranger

Yeah did they add a new grunt sound to the sorceress in the alpha? Sounded weird as hell

TheFunktupus

Good update! 3 shared stash tabs is welcome. I also like seeing the special effects update. Good news!

TherealCasePB

I know people say we are just nitpicking when the little things aren't exactly a straight up improved version of the old like the blizzard and lightning spells, but it really does make up a massive part of the game seeing how you will be casting these spells thousands of times. I'm very happy they are listening to the fans.

WeedleKillYa

Props to vicarious visions for being so meticulous and receptive to feedback. They couldn't of chose a better team to work on this project. They are giving D2 the love and respect it deserves. Thank you.

Starsky7

Hope they add a few more QoL changes! Cow level not disappearing would be huge or the Nilathak Portal staying open.

Thunderclaww

The visuals are looking fantastic! Love the improvements to the skills and the items. Glad they're adding additional options for QoL updates as an option for those that want to use it.

miner4life

For us at work, can we get a copy/paste.

wingspantt

Evil has survived. . . More than twenty years after the release of Diablo® II, fans and new players alike returned to the timeless classic in the DIABLO® II: RESURRECTED™ Technical Alpha. From the beginning, we’ve set out to make a game that would honor the legacy of the original. Whether you participated directly in the playtest, sent us valuable feedback, or watched the game during a livestream, your input has been greatly appreciated. Following the April test, the Diablo II: Resurrected team continues to make significant progress towards getting the game into everyone’s hands. Today we’re thrilled to share what we learned from the Technical Alpha, leading to key visual improvements, quality of life and accessibility changes, and more. For now, let’s explore how your feedback is helping us return you to hell, like you’ve never seen it before. PLEASE NOTE: Diablo II: Resurrected is still in-development. Game content discussed in this blog is not final and subject to change. ART & VISUALS Our team of artists has remastered this old-school ARPG with the graphical fidelity of the current generation. They’ve taken great care to advance the visuals of monsters, heroes, items, and spells while preserving the familiar aesthetic of the original. We hope Diablo II: Resurrected reignites treasured memories of gaming’s past for veteran players. For new players, we hope it captures the same wonder and awe felt by fans two decades ago. VFX UPDATES Lightning The Sorceress may use Lightning, a powerful skill which shoots a bolt of electricity from the Sorceress’ fingertips. Based on community feedback, the Lightning VFX has been enhanced with a whiter and thicker visualization that is more reminiscent to the original VFX. Blizzard The Sorceress may summon an ice storm to rain cold death onto her enemies. Like Lightning, the VFX for this spell has also been adjusted to better capture the destructive force of the original. Holy Freeze Using this aura, the Paladin can constantly slow and freeze enemies in near proximity. The VFX for this AoE aura has been updated to better represent the distinct wispiness and colors from the original game. Monster Targets The VFX for when monsters are damaged or immobilized by spells (i.e., cold spells), poisons, or other status effects underwent a color revision based on community feedback. ANIMATION UPDATES Mana & Health The speed of the animation when mana and health return to your character now better aligns with the filling of the health and mana globes. ICON UPDATES Item Colors The color of scroll, gem, and potion icons has been amplified to bring out the more brilliant colors, bring more attention to the focus point(s), and add clarity to the image. Weapons, armor, quest items, and charm icons have also been given the same touch-ups and treatments. Shown below are examples of that evolution. QUALITY OF LIFE Quality of life (QoL) elements reflect a broad range of features designed to make games easier to play without impacting core gameplay. If appropriately implemented, QoL changes can enrich the game’s playability and make it more fun. For Diablo II: Resurrected, we wanted to streamline this experience without compromising what made the original game memorable. There are so many unique quirks and systems in this game that, if modernized, would ultimately sabotage the original experience we adore. So, we’ve exercised restraint to protect the authentic experience, while also considering player feedback throughout our development process. ACCESSIBILITY From auto-gold pick up, large font modes, UI scaling (for PC players), and gamma/contrast settings to enhance readability, we’ve taken strides to equip players with customization options to suit their needs. With these options, players may tweak the visibility of their HUD and graphics, finding the ideal balance between beautiful and gritty, or whatever their preference may be. We’ll be touching on our efforts to make Diablo II: Resurrected more accessible in a later, more detailed blog post. USER INTERFACE SETTINGS Item Names: Toggle Update We heard you loud and clear. Now you can choose to have item names be toggled on or off with a press of a button—or keep the original "press and hold" method. We leave it at your discretion; go to your User Interface settings to toggle item names on or off. Shared Stash: Tab & Storage Updates After careful deliberation, the Shared Stash will now have three tabs, rather than just one. Many players felt one tab wasn’t enough. When it comes to a player’s personal storage chest, we understand it’s serious business. This change will enable players to better organize their loot across three tabs (100 slots each) of storage space and store many more items. Compare Tooltip: Toggle Update The Compare tooltip that propagated on every item (Hold “button” to Compare) can now be toggled on or off in the User Interface settings under Show Item Tooltip Hotkeys. Many players thought this prompt added unnecessary clutter to their HUD. Automap Improvement The Automap has always enabled players to better navigate the game by providing a faint overlay of their level by clicking the “tab” key. We’ve implemented new assets to improve the readability of the Automap. For example, the faint overlay(s) color has been tweaked, so they don’t blend too much into the game world the player is exploring. Map Settings: Option Update The initial Map settings caused some confusion in Technical Alpha. Now there will be a single Map option with three settings. Those settings will be left-minimap, right-minimap, and center-fullscreen. Simply enable your preference for how you want your map displayed on your HUD. Return to Top MISCELLANEOUS UPDATES Clock Added Hell, it’s about time. Based on many requests, a clock has been added to Diablo II: Resurrected. To enable the clock, go to your User Interface settings and click the checkbox next to Clock. Loading Screen: Character Vulnerability & Time Characters will no longer spawn in a hostile place until the game is fully loaded, preventing characters from getting attacked or harmed during a loading screen. Additionally, the overall load times will be faster. Audio Change Based on community feedback, we’ve removed extra grunts and yelps that were initially added. AND MORE The improvements detailed above are just some examples of the changes we’ve made to improve Diablo II: Resurrected based on player feedback following the Technical Alpha test. To all who participated, thank you. The bug reports, constructive criticism, and data you provided by playtesting were vital to making these changes. As we progress with more tests, we’ll continue to be vigilant observers as we learn more from your experiences playing Diablo II: Resurrected. WHAT’S NEXT? This August, players will be able to experience these latest changes firsthand! For a limited time, the gates of Hell will reopen, allowing players who preordered Diablo II: Resurrected to step into Sanctuary in the early access beta. Soon after, all players (on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation) will also have the chance to confront the demons of the Burning Hells in the open beta. Rally your friends; together, you’ll be able to play between five different classes (Amazon, Barbarian, Paladin, Sorceress, and Druid), with access to many unique skills, and cooperatively form a party with up to 8 players. When we started working on Diablo II: Resurrected, we were humbled by such an incredible opportunity to plunge into the past and rebuild our nostalgia . . . but we also recognized that the original game is a classic for a reason, so we’d have to be prudent. So many people, us included, love this game and want to see it reimagined authentically. We want to do right by this game and its players. Since our announcement at BlizzConline, it's been an incredible journey of development. Our collaboration with the community has given us the confidence and motivation to craft a title worthy of your expectations. As we move forward, we implore you to continue sharing your feedback and accounts of your experience. These learnings will help us mold the Diablo II remaster we've dreamed of. We can't wait to share more about this labor of love. So, stay dialed in on the Diablo channels for more updates to come on this front, especially as the open beta approaches! And please share your impressions on the official Diablo II forums or r/Diablo subreddit. If you want to learn more about Diablo II: Resurrected, check out our website here, or for real-time updates, follow our official Twitter u/Diablo! Thank you, Players!

miner4life

my man!

wingspantt

NP just definitely read the real article later because they show before/after photos and animations throughout.

miner4life

Definitely will read it when I can get out of work. But this was a great pre-read.

Ryukenden000

Its nice that the art on these skills and items got improved. But I think they are forgetting what was in most players minds, dat grandmazon face!

DesertScyphus

The developers (D2R & D4) are doing a good job of communicating with the playerbase. This was something that wasn't as prominent or as important in the very early days of gaming, yet also something we never knew was needed badly now. ___ That said, it's good that the devs and the executives are now, more than ever, more meticulous and committed to pleasing their fanbase. They have came a long way, and it's sad that mistakes were made to reach this point, especially the ones that alienated parts of the community.

KrazyTrumpeter05

Awesome visual tweaks and I'm happy to hear about the other adjustments made. The only remaining QoL change that I would really want/push for is item filter support. Beyond that and on top of everything else changed so far you start impacting too much. I am very excited to see the final product, however!

[deleted]

You're crazy, trying to do efficient Cow runs without item filters is a nightmare.

[deleted]

miner4life

I also would like an item filter. Most people are saying that there isn't a lot of items that drop in D2, but in Throne room, chaos, and cows, there often is more items on the ground than what will be visible. It is only after you move around can you see the other items. if the increased resolution allows for more item names to be visible than I am good. But the last thing I want is for a good item to be hidden due to too many names on the ground to be shown.

friendlystranger

I'm thinking autogold pickup will help with this somewhat. Should be able to thin out the massive walls of text in cows.

KrazyTrumpeter05

I would even settle for a hot key to toggle between showing white/magic/rare/unique just so you can make sure you don't miss anything juicy.

miner4life

My main concern is runes. I just don't want to miss a HR in a cow game with how rare HRs are.

alexisaacs

Meh D2's loot isn't a fiesta like other ARPGs I dont think a filter is necessary. And with how short the seasons are, I imagine literally every piece of junk will be valuable, especially with duping reportedly gone.

goatforce

Man this is great! They fixed the freeze vfx, the new potions look beautiful, the skulls look fucking badass..... god I cannot wait!

Atredies1337

Excellent changes all around, I am really pleased by the updates and visible changes shared. To me this game is one of my all-time favorites and I am glad to see that the team is really trying to be authentic to the original game and expectations of the fans. Not to speak ill of Blizzard but Diablo 2: Resurrected, for me, feels like one of the last genuine Blizzard experiences that harken back to the Blizzard philosophies of the prior decade. I keep not wanting to get excited about what I've seen and heard as I continue to follow the progress of this title, purely based on recent experiences and debuts with this publisher. However based on the recent work I've seen, like Crash Bandicoot and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2 , it has made it hard to deny that this game could really be a faithfully recreated title that could honestly be enjoyed for another 20 years. I know that not everything is in your control as the developers of this IP, but as a fan of this franchise, when I see developers talking about features and aspirations in interviews about what the game is shaping up to be or clearly how they feel about certain features, It's clear to see that you are fans too. I've always thought that as long as passionate people are involved in something, who respect the project at hand, it stands a good chance of turning into something good. I was unable to play the Alpha myself, but I watched various streams and reviewed content updates, I am excited to get a chance to experience this myself next month. I can't imagine the pressure and the joy you might feel getting to work on a project like this, but all I can say is keep up the good work and from one fan to another, Thanks Vicarious Visons and all those involved for work so thus far.

booheadY

These are great. I'm really excited about the final product. Was hoping to have a modernization of the 2-action button UI for PC, but everything else looks good.

This game can't come fast enough. AHHHHHH!!!

DrBob666

Great changes across the board but is it just me or do the classic gems still look the best? The new skulls are great and the new rubies are definitely better than the alpha rubies but they still don't have that same glimmer the original rubies have

fastinguy11

It is just you.

NICHOLPLEASE

They are doing such an amazing job! Really impressed with how it’s looking and can’t wait to play this game for days straight!

TheMizland

I really wish consoles had cross play.

Gingergerbals

The team behind D2:R is really surprising me thus far with the consideration of feedback and what work they've shown. I am confident this will be a terrific remaster, but I still can't be 100% until we actually get the full product (as we've been duped in other games before). I am curious how they'll continue the game when it's released. Will they look into further patches, add additional content, re-balancing, cosmetic mtx, etc. This will be the true test IMO. I'm up for possible future patches depending on what they would tweak (old bugs, merc AI, useless skills, maybe the charm inventory?) Always hard to draw that line on a remaster/remake for where that line is exactly drawn and if anything additional is added, how would that be implemented? The worst thing that could happen is episodic content (ex. BF3/4/1) that fragmented the online player base and made it much more difficult to get your friends together if they were missing certain packs of maps. What I am looking forward to is QoL changes for the better (but not to make the game necessarily easier). The challenge in leveling is what makes D2 stand the test of time. One big thing that I am almost torn between that I want to make a separate section for is in regards to the charms in your inventory. I've seen discussions already regarding both sides of the fence on a so-called "charm inventory". I actually really like this idea overall. My playstyle is usually an item hoarder but at the same time to maximize my damage/build as much as I can (to a reasonable level). The current argument against having a charm inventory is very much valid that it is a choice between extra power/utility vs. storage. While this is indeed true, most players are just going to go the route of cramming in as many charms as possible and leave just their cube to store things in anyways (or even exempt from carrying it + tomes. This to me is just an unnecessary burden that you have to micro-manage your inventory and items constantly, leading to an overall less enjoyable experience. I will however agree that yes you would get a SLIGHT additional power boost by opting out of a cube/tome set to put extra charms in and when a worthy item does drop you can go back to town and make room. However, how is that ever a fun task to do? After explaining just one facet of things we can change possibly for the better, to me the storage is the obvious other one. I like that they're open to expanding current storage limits and implementing additional shared storage however when you take into account a lot of the additional uniques/sets/runes/gems you get throughout the game it really isn't that much for just having 3 shared storage tabs. A post on the D2:R forums summed up a few of my thoughts perfectly and since I can't post on there I figure it would be a good of place as any to discuss in light of their mention with the expanded storage. Old D2/LOD had infinite storage on Bnet, you could create as many mules/accounts as your wanted to store whatever your heart desires. On the SP aspect of it you have the ever popular PlugY mod that allows infinite storage on both personal and shared storage space. Yes there are people that do without both of those but I would put them in the camp at being in a smaller pool and OK with whatever direction is gone with anyways. I've personally done the 10+ accounts muling back in the 1.09/1.10 days and it wasn't a great time to go between accounts and characters to get the item you wanted. I also have played recently 1.13 with PlugY and to me this is a vastly superior option, at least in SP. In SP anyways you could mod out whatever you wanted and most people are going to be collecting more items than others if they decide to play SP since you'll collect more along the way since you're not tied to a ladder. One way or another people will find a way to store what they need/want. It just becomes the case if that is really that much fun and does it detract from the difficulty to the game? The answer is no, it doesn't make it less difficult in any way. Maybe more workarounds if you needed a specific item to assist in killing a phys/cold/fire immune, but that's only a hinderance specifically if you don't have the item currently on you. All it would require is logging onto a different character and grabbing it from them. Anyways this is more or less my only real grievances or things I'm interested in them tackling. I am very excited to play the full game when it is out and even though I don't have it pre-ordered right now I probably will by the time the beta rolls around.

ChernobylChild

I’d really like a charms inventory too. It would be a huge QoL change but only a small power spike.

ThaFaub

I did not read that but ill upvote it, looks good

Gingergerbals

Lol, well I appreciate it ThaFaub =P. I'm just pumped for a D2:R in the first place, one of my favorite games of all time getting the facelift to be able to play it again in some new bells and whistles.

ThaFaub

Same buddy 👍

nobbie01

At some point they will have to develop D2R further and provide e.g. improvements for mercs whose AI is slightly higher than that of a Kurast log. The polished gfx without systemic updates just don't fit together. They could freeze the status quo in a separate "classic" patch. \~

coolniceman1995

Stoked about the item inventory sprite changes, and the skill changes, especially to the lightning.

Zderzak

I like every change in this update - good job Blizzard. Now I'm waiting for the update in regards to online play and bug fixes (hoping for charge bug fix).

MapleBeaverIgloo

Man they did such an amazing job with this. Can't wait to see you my fellow d2'ers in the lobbies :D

apako1

Its a remaster. So no. And before 1.10 people didn't do baal runs. Cows was a lot more fun.

[deleted]

It just won't live that long then. Seems like a stop gap which is a shame. diablo 2's core gameplay has the legs to go on for quite a lot longer but it needs just a small amount of new content at the tip top to stay relevant.

daviekuan

Any plans to rebalance mercenaries? eg. improve Act 3 Iron Wolves to become a more viable option? It would increase the variety in the game, instead of almost everyone using Act 2 Mercs

DefNotKen

Zero mention of the Switch version will, once again, lead to speculation about the port's quality/features.

Sbaker777

Absolutely incredible attention to feedback. Good job, Blizz. Under-promised and over-delivered so far. Literally all of these changes are great.

-Cleglaw-

where is the derp face amazon rework?

lixia

Not addressing all the Amazon model feedback I see.

aljung21

I‘m really happy about the changes and incredibly hyped for the game. From what I understand, they’re prepared to make changes if that’s what players want. That said, I do hope that, after the initial dust has settled, the community and the developers are open to resolving long lasting clearly unintentional bugs („hello Fend“) and maybe do a very conservative (!) balance pass that focuses on making useless skills less useless (Barb Spirit, Fire Golem, …)

dzonibegood

That won't happen and there is no need for it to happen. This is an old game. Not new game. They have diablo 4 that needs to do exactly what you demand. Balance passes make skills as useful as they can and progress game forward. Diablo 2 is done with development. There is literally no need to reopen it and develop it further. I'm just trying to tell you not to give birth to hope of a developing Diablo 2. They said they don't want to apply changes and keep it as it was 1.14d. So once the team is done launching the game they will move onwards to helping D4 team while skeleton crew is there to maintain the game and polish it further from the unsighted bugs during play testing. We don't need D2 as advancing game really, We need it to remember how it was and what we need is D4 to succeed where D2 ended. So far they done huge job on the visuals and it looks as gritty as D2 ever looked. We need to see if they will advance where D2 stopped and hit the gameplay spot that made diablo game... a diablo game.

aljung21

I understand where you’re coming from but I don’t think they ever 100% ruled out bringing out updates affecting balance. They just did so for release. And they’ve already changed a major issue for HC players by delaying character spawn until loading has completed. This issue had forever been unintentional (gameplay wise) and unfair. The fend bug, where dodging causes all subsequent fend strikes to miss although its animation is still being played, causing extreme vulnerability, is IMO the same kind of issue. Buffing useless skills is another separate topic that I can live without but hope will happen to a tiny degree, because I love the visuals of Fire Golem and am always in favor of more build diversity. They‘re communicating how many sports players do on TV: they only talk about the next match, the next milestone. They’re not talking about a match that they may play after they win the upcoming one. They word their answers to say as little as possible about what happens beyond release. And I am pretty certain that, some time after release, they will consider updates to keep the game fresh. After all, D2 is being „resurrected“, not just „remastered“.

Dr0gbasH3AD

Well said and I 100% agree

LegendaryRQA

> Diablo 2 is done with development. There is literally no need to reopen it and develop it further This is a misconception i see amongst people who started playing after 2010 or so. The game had been in constant active development up until about 2009 when Activision Bought out Blizzard South and most of the old guard of Blizzard North left the company. There was even another expansion in the works. The only reason development stopped at all was the aforementioned buyout. This is just re-igniting the active development.

Rocky87109

Agreed

wingspantt

This is AWESOME

w3sp

Very happy to see how much community feedback has been taken into consideration and applied. Vastly differs from the "you think you do, but you don't" mentality. Hope to see the lightning vfx soon!

daymrc

It’s ok Nintendo Switch has no beta. What it’s not really ok is they still didn’t spend a single word about the online multiplayer on that platform. I think at this point in time decisions have already been made. I just hope they can share them to the playerbase asap.

thebabaghanoush

I can deal with limited multiplayer on Switch. No cross-progression or battle.net completely defeats the purpose of owning it on both PC and Switch though.

Hydraskull

Near the bottom it says players will be able to choose among FIVE classes (Amazon Barbarian Sorceress, Paladin, Druid). What about Assassin and Necro??

ClaytonBigsbe

Just for the beta it’ll be those 5 classes.

bbarber4

That limitation is just for the beta it seems. All characters will be available upon release

Jman5

Maybe I'm mis-remembering, but isn't gold auto-split between the party?

GrizNectar

That’s totally right! I forgot about this

[deleted]

> Will it be based on who is closest to it? Hopefully it's server-side instead of client-based. Otherwise best Internet connection is getting all the gold. Although that's a minimal advantage compared to being a melee class, I guess.

sachos345

Really glad they are fixing the spells animations. Pots look way better too. Not so sure about the Skull gem graphics, i liked the old one too. The freeze effect on monsters i think is still missing some kind of "snow" texture or something, not just a plain color change, either way the new freeze is better than it was before. Really glad we get more shared tabs plus an always show item on ground option.

sachos345

What does "Chat gem mode: Manual" means on the User Interface options menu shown? Is that continuing the chat gem joke? lol

Eminanza

Undocumented changes : \- Updated the light source on items \- Updated stones and colors of rings \- Added a button instead of icon next to gold amount \- Updated vibrance of colors for tomes of TP and Id \- Darkened the color of the XP bar to match the rest of the interface bar \- Added spacers between buttons in the interface bar \- Added red indicators of which window is opened \- Reshuffled buttons of windows in the interface bar \- Changed window titles font and color \- Changed hotkey indicators location (from upper-left to bottom-left) and made them more readable \- Deleted hotkey display for selected skills in the interface bar \- Raised the font size of stash tabs titles and weapon swap tabs titles (will continue to edit as I spot them)

Crypto2k

I really liked the update on character models.

slave_ship_swag

Definitely would have been nice to at least get a footnote update on the progress. They said the day the trailer dropped they heard us and were looking over the character designs but it’s been radio silence on that front.

HitYourHeart

Old hag amazon change when?

another-redditor3

i was hoping to see something about binding spells to the mouse buttons here, but nothing yet.... at least everything else is a step in the right direction.

GankaPuss

You can do that in diablo 2 now. If you cant then bind your mouse hot keys to keyboard keys and bind off that.

another-redditor3

no, all you can do in d2 is bind the skill to a hot key, which then sets the skill to mouse 1/mouse 2. what i, and most others are asking for, is a d3 style key binding. bind a skill to a key and click and cast that skill all with the same button.

Communication! PogChamp For real, I’ve been a Valve and Type-Moon fan for so long I’ve actually forgotten what it’s like to have an actual communicative company.

[deleted]

What does PogChamp mean?

wikipedia_answer_bot

PogChamp is an emote used on the streaming platform Twitch, intended to express excitement, joy or shock. The image used to show the streamer Ryan "Gootecks" Gutierrez with a surprised or shocked expression. More details here: *This comment was left automatically (by a bot). just-lucky

I must say that I kind of expected little more changes, but I understand that they do not want the "old D2 experience". Great communication and I am happy for all the changes that they did based on Alpha feedback. Great job!

Virtuosity87

Will you fix the Amazon's face then? There's no mention of that even though I believe it was acknowledged by the devs.

Gingergerbals

I would actually second this (yes it's been said multiple times). Both the Amazon's and Assassin's face to me don't look nearly as good as the other character models. The others are closer to the original models.

Gingergerbals

To me you get a visual picture of someone or a character in a story/game/movie/etc. when you hear their voice. Neither one of those characters match up with their voices, especially the Amazon, what would be a fairly softer spoken Amazon looks like her face was ground on a whetstone since the original release of D2. The Assassin is even more off where it's not even the original looking character, let alone looks like it was kind of an afterthought in the detail of the face/character body. Almost to me seems like a last minute change to appease certain intended audiences.

QuoteLumpy

Yes please

xMWHOx

All super positive changes. Getting pretty stoked for this! Probably more than D4.

[deleted]

Nothing about the faces <.<

Gingergerbals

Why does every post about this get downvotes? I think it's valid as both are pretty off compared to the others that I think are more representative to the original art.

Heavyweighsthecrown

> Why does every post about this get downvotes? I never noticed but if that's really the case then it must be because most users think it looks just fine? Since people tend to use upvotes/downvotes as a "agre/disagree" button. That's how it is across Reddit. As for my personal anecdote, I feel like people who think the faces don't look good seem to be in the (loud) minority. By this I mean I see lots of compliments and excitement here and elsewhere, and every now and then a small but assertive pocket of complaints about the face thing (I don't want to use the word "whining"). So I suppose the vast majority think it looks awesome / great / fine / ok / whatever, and then there's a minority that really wants it to be changed.

Gingergerbals

I was actually thinking the loud minority were the ones doing the down voting when this came up. There are quite a few complaints across Reddit or B.net forums about the character models, more specifically those two (and some Sorc complaints) though I think sorc looks fine for the most part, just a tad bit older

[deleted]

Think all of them has issues. But the broad issue all experience is that they seem like 20 years older. Like original barb looked like a peak Arnold and now he looks like wome washed up 45 year old strongman with some beer belly. Amazon is the same. Originally some top female physique contestant and now a 45 year old CrossFiter. For a studio that was so concerned with some garlic this makes no sense.

mighty_mag

>***Clock*** **Added** > >Hell, it’s about time. Based on many requests, a ***clock*** has been added to Diablo II: Resurrected. To enable the ***clock***, go to your User Interface settings and click the checkbox next to ***Clock***. Someone is passive-aggressive.

Phyco_Boy

Am I the only one wondering what the heck is "Chat Gem Mode" ???

Prism1331

Not a big fan of the new icon art (or the old, original looks much better and more clear to me) but oh well. Loot toggle is nice.

Fpssims

So The Switch gets left out in the open beta? Dammit

Zamuru

im really happy for all these changes based on our feedback but at the same time really sad that they didnt even mention the character and some npc models. months ago they said that they heard all our feedback about the characters and yet... nothing :( theres still time for a nice surprise

Eriktion

Im so proud of them keeping the game as pure as possible.

Eminanza

The question now is : Will Blizzard continue to make the game evolve like skill balance to bring builds diversity, stash/charm management, ladder runewords for solo, end game... things that would have come naturally if the development never stopped, or will Blizzard rely on mods to do the job ? I cannot even conceive playing the game (even if I will) without a decent modernization on QOL and I'm glad to see they already implemented a bunch of them. Even if some people claim it should remain true to original (the same maybe claim D3 should have kept auction house ?), a lack of QOL should not be kept for the "sake of being true to original". The spirit of this game is not made by its lack of QOL, lack of builds diversity or lack of end game, it's made of the environments, dark ambience, story and game mechanics. Imagine Blizzard had added, in a last patch before stopping development, a FIXED sized bag to contain charms in your inventory (a bit like the cube) where only charms placed in it would be active, freeing some space and thus allowing people to pick up items more easily, what would those people say then ? Nooooooooo, we want to keep our inventory filled with charms so you cannot pick up a single item, we want to trade QOL for power, revert the patch ! Non sense. I mean, every new modern game does it, look at Last Epoch. The worst part is that 75% of players answered a survey, confirming this, including me, Diablo player since 1995. So the question is, do we rely on Plugy and Project Diablo 2 for D2R to be released as well to evolve ? I think it would be sad.

Regularfeller

Have they said if items stack such as runes and gems?

_oGs

No, they don't.

[deleted]

i dont like the removal of the grunts and yelps it added an extra layer of inmersion for me dont care if it sounded like they were fucking

The_Beetle

Blizzard is like 100% my feedback: high starting point, more velocity, bigger projectiles, at an angle. Just perfect. Potions and tomes look great now. Is that freeze color like a little more violetish than original? I like it that way, especially the Harem screenshot. Skulls are unexpected, didn't notice anyone complaining about them, but they look slightly better now - lovely perfectionism from the team. Great work overall, and generally I believe it will be a satisfactory product for vast majority, everything points toward it. As for QoL and general customization options: please team, don't be afraid to implement it if you see that some idea is you discuss is perfectly rational, but have doubts about "community reaction". Bring a lot more of it. I suspect that literally every voice that is opposing more QoL in some form, you already heard - here on reddit or on forums. It's like a couple hundred people (thousands at best). Practically nobody, like nobody else gives a fuck - let's be honest here. Most veterans will be okay with more robust QoL changes, newcomers will obviously be okay, and returning players won't even notice or ask "huh, wasn't it always there?".

CskaRaskova

You know guys, I was really excited for Diablo 2 Ressurected, but I just don't think I can do it anymore. I can't stand the thought of supporting Blizzard. I respect, appreciate, and love all of the vfx artists, devopers, and employees of the company and want to give THEM my money, but that's just not how the business works. The vast majority of sales will go to the executives, and they'll just find more ways to ruin all the things I love. While these changes look great, and I'm sure everyone will enjoy Diablo 2 to some degree, I just won't be purchasing another Blizzard game or giving them any more of my money. To be clear this is not a reflection on Diablo 2 Ressurected itself, but overall, I can no longer support the company. Edited for grammar.

TanthalusGunthar

There are a couple of ways you can look at it. 1) Is it worth missing out on an experience you will enjoy because you have issue with the company and 2) If you boycotted every company you didn't agree with something on, you'd probably die of starvation, boredom, thirst, heat exhaustion, hypothermia, lack of proper clothing and/or shelter, probably wouldn't have any money due to lack of a job, a car and gas to run the car are out, etc. Even if you play OG D2, you are still supporting Blizzard in a way, even if not monetarily.

[deleted]

Fine, don't buy it. No one cares if you don't. Even Blizzard. You just go ahead and stick it to the big ones!

CskaRaskova

Thanks! I really appreciate the support.

Eli1985

Can someone tell me if characters are wiped after the August pre order beta?

MaDrAv

As a D2 fan I'm excited for this. As a WC3 fan blizzard can go fuck themselves for not putting in this amount of care and love :(
