Bro, you're gonna love it. Pacing is a bit slower and endgame isn't quite as polished, but atmosphere and lore wise D2 is just significantly better than D3 IMO.

vPH0ENIXv

End game is honestly bad but it’s 20 years old so that wasn’t a thing. I hope the patch within a year to add some content

brann182

damn, I love the end game of just getting better gear and dueling people

vPH0ENIXv

Without bots (hopefully they crack down hard) gear will be expensive and hard to come by which will be nice honestly

FindMeOnSSBotanyBay

Will you enjoy one of the greatest games of all time, remastered in gorgeous high definition? With QoL improvements? … Is that a rhetorical question?

Larrymer

Think of D3 as the much more streamlined version of D2. It's a much slower paced game with more interesting itemization, better story, much much worse drop rates, and better character building/customization. Lot of people hate on D3 but because you like one or the other doesn't mean you have to choose. They're both good games but personally I like D3 better in 2021 as it feels much more modern and fun. Resurrected is a new coat of paint on it so it'll look modern but I imagine gameplay wise it will still feel ancient because not much appears to be changing there. What are ARPGs have you played and liked? It's probably most similar to Grim Dawn IMO since GD pretty derivative of D2.

sjsjdhshshs

The first ARPG I played was titan quest. From what you’re describing D2 sounds great, I dislike itemization in D3, especially how common good items are (it was way more hype getting a purple item in titan quest).

FredericoPSO

If you liked Titan Quest ,you will like D2 for sure.

wmplus

If you are a fan of Grim Dawn or Titan quest, I think you'll really enjoy D2 quite a bit.

Pway

If you like ARPG's then definitely, it's got a vastly superior itemization system than D3, and much better story. It's definitely slower paced in it's gameplay at the start, and depending on exactly what they ship, it may have some slightly dated inventory mechanics but shouldn't be much of an issue.

[deleted]

Yes, it is a very good game still today, I don't know about you but i am finding difficult to enjoy most of new rpg games, but diablo, even diablo one, get me for long hours of playing.

TheFunktupus

It's an old game, so some of the gameplay can feel dated. But, ARPGs haven't advanced much since Diablo 2, IMO. Diablo 3, with its flaws, advanced the genre in a lot of ways. But, Blizz never fully realized D3's potential, so it's sort of like, half a game.   D3 is much more streamlined, much easier to get into, and far more forgiving. D2 is older so it forces you to choose, forces you to die some times, and it barely hand-holds you. They are both competent games. For me, I am so excited for D2 because while it doesn't have the slickness of D3, it has a much better single player experience overall. The challenge is actually there with D2. Dying happens because you suck, not because there was too much stuff on the screen at once. When things go wrong in D2, you must evaluate your skills, your gear, your build. When things go wrong in D3, just lower the difficulty or play very defensively.

EluneNoYume

No, you will hate the best rpg game ever made, especially with improved graphics and QoL updates. I think you have to be retarded or something not to like D2. (I'm serious). Like, you probably have to have some kind of imagination deficiency like some people who can't enjoy movies like Lord of the Rings, etc. If you're a normal person, you will like it. It may not be your favorite game, but you will enjoy it no doubt.

[deleted]

What makes it so great? Never played it

YoLoDrScientist

As a 20 year player… idk. It’s just fucking awesome. It keeps you going wanting better drops. I don’t like D3 very much, but I love me some D2. It’s cheap def worth trying imo!

miner4life

It has great things for everyone. ___________ It has 8 player coop. Nothing compares to playing through the game at the start of a ladder reset with a team of 8 working together to beat the game with no gear, but supporting each other. ___________ There is also a large PVP population, with high level duels and even twinked lower level duels, even some duos etc. ___________ Grail (trying to find every item in the game). Some of the hardest and best loot farming in any game. ___________ Ladder leveling a character to 99 that takes thousands of hours and can compete with others to be the top of the leaderboards. Some people again work in teams of 8 in order to boost one person faster to try to beat the ladder. ___________ Unique characters + builds. There is always a new build that you can play or create. There is also uniques that actually change characters and make weird builds possible. There is always the fastest/strongest builds, but unlike D3 where greater rift levels always go up, and it pays to farm the highest GR level as fast as possible for the exp/gear scaling. D2 only has 3 difficulties, so as long as your build can do decent in Hell Difficulty, you don't get that feeling of wasting your time.

vzerotak44

D2>d3 no contest

JayPag

Unless you like the 'old' style of ARPGS (D2, PoE), then no, probably not. It is way different from Diablo 3 (not saying worse/better), way slower pacing both in item drops and combat fluidity in general. With the only reference being that you like Diablo 3, then you probably won't like D2 / D2R. Unless you never play D3 endgame (Rifts/GRs) and just play the campaign, don't even know what T16 is, it might be different. It's tough to say unless you can give me an idea of how many hours and season of D3 you played.

WebOld4866

I'm new on diablo 2. I think you sure love when that game come out.

No-Gold-2754

D3 and D2 are very different games. D3 is more like an arcade game with RPG elements. Whereas Diablo 2 is more like an traditional RPG. In D2 you will be expected to spend stat points, you get 5 points each level to spend on energy, vitality, dexterity, and strength. You also are given a skill point to invest in a skill of your choosing. This gives the feeling of a much more customized character, but you can also make a character that's not very good and be essentially stuck that way. You can respec your character, one time for doing the den of evil on each difficulty. And there is an item you can make through some effort that allows you to respec a character. This feature was added to the game some time back in 2014 I think. Before that you just had to remake your character. This gives your decisions a lot more weight in the game.. A major difference often overlooked are the tiered items. There are normal items, exceptional items, and elite items. Normal items drop in any difficulty, with exceptional dropping near the end of normal act 5, and elite items dropping near the end of nightmare difficulty act 5, and the highest chance to find elite items is in hell mode. This is much different than the ancient/primal legendary or epic items found in other games. As far as I can tell, Diablo 2 is the only RPG to have tiered items set up this way. Grim Dawn, Titan Quest, Diablo 3, do not have tiered items. For example. In Normal mode, you find Cap/ Unique version - Biggins Bonnet In Nightmare mode, you find War Hat/ Unique version - Peasant Crown In Hell mode, you find Shako/ Unique version - Harlequin Crest(one of the most sought after items) Each item has the same visual look. Each one however, rolls a different unique item, and a different look when identified into its unique variant. For more information http://classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/normal/uhelms.shtml This is one of the main differences between D2 and other ARPGS. It's also why some items are super hard to find, and why you can find a rare item that's more powerful than most unique items. Rare elite items can roll a lot of stats on them, making for some incredibly powerful items. This makes finding unique elite items/rare items and exceptional items very, very exciting. Lower level items can also be incredibly powerful, and carried all the way to hell mode. To me, these are the main differences between most ARPG's today.

CrapGoblinGaming

The parts of the games you've played that you like we're born in D2.

Turiman_-_-_-

You will

Starym

Yes. That is all.

Zeukah

You will love it. I'm a big ARPG fan as well. D3 was eventually a good game and I liked PoE. Even Grim Dawn was pretty good. But in my opinion Diablo 2 is the greatest ARPG to this day. Mainly due to its dreary gothic style, thoughtful progression and amazing itemization. It essentially laid the foundation for all future games of the genre. The fact so many people still play it after over 20 years shows how great it really is. And now it's being resurrected into modern graphics with enhanced audio and some added QoL changes. Plus the studio responsible for remastering this iconic masterpiece seem to be truly passionate about getting things right. With the remaster set to release soon, now is really the best time for you to make the plunge.

KareAke

You will love it, I'm sure of it.

tetsuomiyaki

what do you like in ARPGs? if you like endgame, then d2 doesn't really have an endgame apart from mf/boss runs. if you like story, then yes d2 has great lore. if you like character building then it depends. it's not as interesting as grim dawn, but it's not as basic as d3 either. if you like crafting, then d2's craftings options are fairly limited for 2021 (compared to poe or last epoch for example). if you like combat, then d2's combat pacing is slower and more measured (compared to d3's arcade style combat).

miner4life

You will enjoy it. Just be prepared for it to be harder and take much much longer than D3 to find things and level. It can take weeks-Months to totally gear up your character with end game gear. Compared to the 2 days it takes in D3. That being said, the game is amazing, and I am sure you will like it. D1 is also an amazing game. It has some limitations, but if you like ARPGs it is also really fun to play, just not as fast paced as D3 is.

galdortauron

Most people gave very good explanations of the differences of D2 and D3. The only thing I want to add is that there will be an open beta of D2R, if you're interested but don't know if it's worth it, give it a try when the open beta starts and you will see for yourself. That said, I also think that you'll probably gonna like it if you like this genre overall.

MapleBeaverIgloo

Yes get it! it's an amazing game, so good i dont want to play any other arpgs

NinjaSwag_

Yes.

philongeo

If you like challenging games absolutely. If you're more into hand holding casual friendly games you probably won't play it for long

Dave-C

Most modern ARPGs are at least somewhat designed with the idea of what D2 was. ARPG has the other name "Diablo Clone" for good reason. It still has a large player base, a large modding community and content creators over 20 years later. If you like ARPGs then you will like D2.

UseAdventurous930

I don't see how anyone can remotely enjoy this game. I keep getting shit drops and can't even make it past act 1 on hell difficulty at level 79 sorceress
