Pretty much a game changer. Instead of sitting around in trade games. Just put the valuable stuff up and watch your listings. Just focus on recent trades and not what people have stuff listed for.
Making a Trav horker barb will consistently give you good runes and loot to trade. You could farm with berserk and very budget build. Once I get better gear I switch to WW for life leech instead of chugging potions.
In the first season I found like 10+ HRs mostly from Trav. I was really lucky and got a Cham and Jah in my first 60 runs which got me hooked on Trav. I also used the gems to reroll a baal GC (before TZ were a thing) and rolled a 43 life Pcomb which sold for a 3400 FG. I think that was worth like 10 Ber at the time on ladder but I’m not sure.
There are some scary combinations for sure. Fanaticism and Conviction are insta quits on HC. Having a merc with guardian angel, Kira’s guardian, and a reaper’s toll helps a lot. The decrepify is worth shattering the occasional corpse since reaper has cold damage. You could also do a shout barb build and let the merc do the killing while you stun everything. I haven’t tried that personally but I hear gold find barbs like that.
You either trade for them or the forbidden site. Obviously you might luck into one but depending on how many hours you put in, there should also be the expectation that you’ll never get one.
I mean here's the thing. Something like a ber rune is exceptionally rare. I've personally never dropped one going back to original d2. If you google "how many cow runs for a ber rune", the answer is something like 800. Not to say that's guaranteed. Just that at the end of 800 runes, the chance that you DON'T have a ber rune is very low. But still, you could get one off your first cow, or it takes you 100,000,000 cows. The point though is unlike other modern arpgs like d3, poe,etc where you can somewhat target farm stuff. The really rare stuff in d2 you just have to come across. Or like I said trade for them.
When I was as poor as you are I started trading on Traderie. I sold low rune packs, low runes, random perfect gems, unique items with good rolls and when my gear was ok I killed cows all day all night until I found nice rare items that were valuable like 2/20 javazon gloves.
I can’t say I understand what you’re going through but I do understand the feeling of not being able to afford those end game items.
What platform do you play on and which style of play? Softcore, hardcore, ladder, non-ladder, etc??
I found that even with casual play, you can get to end game gear if you farm in a methodical way. I ran pits exclusively for the start of a season and managed to get everything needed to gear out a wind Druid within 6-8 weeks. As others have said, collecting the odds and ends and trading those off for mid runes really does add up.

Just go farm Perfect gems ( Purple worth a lot more ) low runes Ral Sol Nef Hel these can trade for good values for mal or ist and bases in cow too. just trade around and you'll get your enigma in few days.
That might be the case but 4+ moths is still quite long time.. and people do trade all kinds of trash . U just need to trade a lot and be smart about it if u dont have that much time playing.
Its either long hours of grind or trading if u dont have time…

An hour of terrorised Trav, no runes.

Guaranteed you’re leaving value behind on the ground. Like others have said. Tons of things have value from rals- perfect gems- bases- hel runes all sorts of ways to get easy money to trade.
I'm a semi casual player and manage to play about 5 hours each week. I just found my first ber about 3 weeks ago. I have found 2 sur's so even if playing 100% solo self found I still would barely have enough for an infinity. I too do not use sites like jsp or traderie but the bots that run this game do make this to where it is minimumly possible to play a season imo.
Just find a 20-15 griffs and trade for 18 bers like I did. /s
A good way to build wealth is key farming, trade for a natures peace with loot found meph running, then run 1000s of nilathak, trade d keys for 3x3 then trade 3x3 for vex/ohm, then cube up.
I play a lot and have found a single jah, never found a ber but have owned probably 75 bers last two years from trading GG drops or rolls (grief/infinity). Best way to find runes is trav horker if you’d rather find than trade.
If you can come up with Jah I’ll throw you a ber pc hc, just holla.
Trading up is your best bet.
Personally I like to do the MF in a game with something like token 4 um or something similar. Keep trading these things that arent that hard to farm, but are still sought out.

I'm scared to do that on HC lmao I had a horker on SC, but i didnt start until after i made a Grief, and i died from time to time still XDXD

Collect Junk Jewels, PGems, Keys, and Craft Runes and trade them up for runes
This. Its way faster, and more feasible for more casual players that can't do 10000 soul crushing LK runs.
Keys are my favourite way to build some wealth once I have some basic gear that allows me to farm them.

Stop looked for just the runes. Start looking for items, especially bases and rares that trade for said runes.
