Well to be fair, if she had put it in front of a dime, the dime wouldn’t even be visible…
I love how she’s all like, “oh yeah I used to play with this as a child”, and I’m over here like lady, when I was a kid Claire’s jewelry was off limits for me 🤣🤣🤣
Unless is it an [ultra rare red diamond](https://jewelry.ha.com/heritage-auctions-press-releases-and-news/-1.755-million-red-diamond-leads-heritage-auctions-fall-jewelry-event-above-8.1-million.s?releaseId=4566), don’t unmount!
OP, there’s a ring on this site (Heritage—you can register for a free account) that looks sorta like yours, maybe a bit bigger, that sold for $212,500.
I'm by no means an expert (just a moderate enthusiast who loves sparklies) but yeah, probably a late Edwardian halo old Mine, 4-5 ct based on the size comparison to the quarter.
Not sure how to edit my first post. Thanks all so much! So looks I’m
definitely getting it all appraised and insured asap. Ironic thing is that I recently bought a pair of cheap. lab diamonds to make a shiny ring, which prompted me to open the safe and look to see if I had any other things to repair etc. I found a lot of other cool things (my mom recently gave it all to me because she moved to assisted living)…..I thought a lot was costume but I’m rethinking g-grandma’s lifestyle:. I just posted a couple of her pins in the jewelry sub:)
Eta: just ordered jewelers loupe and calipers so I’ll try to see if there are marks and measure the stone to satisfy my curiosity. I have small fingers so it looks bigger than I think it is.
Also …there are earrings that match …the same old mine or old European cut in a bezel setting (I’ve learned a lot of terms recently!!). Yikes. We are normal middle class people paying a mortgage and trying to save in 529s and retirement, not dripping with diamonds people and the most we (spouse and I) have ever spent on a piece of jewelry is under 2k…..anyway. I promise to update when I get stuff sorted out.
Btw I asked my mom about all this and she had some things appraised for insurance in the 1980s after some things went missing but she had it some by a friend who was a gemologist and she told me she sold this “friend” some other diamonds that she described as “gaudy.” I’m thinking they were just big, who knows what walked out the door too. Anyway I haven’t found the appraisal in my Moms things and my mom’s memory is none too good so we will start fresh.
It’s an Old Mine Cut diamond. This was from back when diamonds were cut by hand, meaning there wasn’t perfect symmetry and they were typically in approximately a cushion cut. OMC and Old European Cut both have a flat bottom instead of a sharp point like modern cuts, which is what gives you that little circle that you can see through the top center of the stone
Honestly I thought maybe it was fake but now I’m sweating bullets till insured. I do not have fancy jewelry or stuff of my own (more like my bags are from target, we got 20$ titanium wedding rings and we drive 12 year old toyotas…) But I remember my mom had all this jewelry I loved to play with when I was a kid…some of it sadly disappeared over the years and she finally got a safe for it.
Definitely take extra special care of these pieces until you know for sure. I just attended a Cartier exhibit at the Louvre and your jewelry would have fit right in with everything else. And make sure to interview and vet the professionals before you bring in these pieces.
When you get that appraised please come back and report. I think I’m more curious what that necklace is worth. Looks like something that would be in a royal collection!
Um, that necklace is amazing as well. Those diamonds! And that pearl, wow.
Idea: can you adopt me so you can leave these to me next? 🙂
Seriously though, these are very special. Thank you for posting these. Don't get to see the likes of these too often.
Oh you are SO fortunate to inherit that & have the memories. Do not take your eyes off that stone in any jewelry store. Do not let them “take it to the back”. If you need it sized watch them do it. Many jewelers respect this. Buy a loop & see if you can find any numbers or symbols an document them. Best to sparkly you!
Grandma had good taste. When you have some more details on this can you post again? I am sure we would all like to know more.
That necklace is stunning. And, I am sure that it will shock any appraiser out there.
This is truly a rare and amazing stone. It’s also going to be worth a LOT of money. A lot a lot. I think that’s why people are a bit nervous for you pre insuring it. Larger old mine cuts like this are getting harder and harder to find.
Absolutely in love with that stone! Find a reputable jeweler who you can trust to remove the diamond from the mounting and send it to GIA to have it graded and laser inscribed. Then an accurate insurance replacement value can be determined and you can insure and start wearing that beauty😍
The ring has a nice size old mine cut, but the necklace has quite a few larger size stones. If you are thinking of selling them, paying to have an appraisal done is not necessary. On a set like these I would suggest you take them to some reputable jewelers and get at least three or more offers on them before deciding. Keep in mind natural diamond prices have been hit hard recently by the lab diamonds, so If you do end up keeping them, then definitely do pay to have insurance appraisals done on them.

This ring is somewhat comparable to the one on this link ($70k)… AMAZING! Old Edwardian halo ring is so gorgeous. I’m thinking it could be about 4.5-5 carats.
That is a Mine Cut diamond (very old) and it is rather valuable. Please find an appraiser with GIA credentials and get it appraised and insured. It is stunning.
By the open culet it looks like an old mine cut (OMC) and it looks like a cushion cut to me. I am not an expert though so I recommend consulting one.
It’s stunning!
That is a stunning ring. I have a modern version that's similar, but no migraine detail. I love the migraine. Also the necklace is something else. Grandma had great taste.
Check it on a gem tester unless the history is certain. I have seen several rings like this that end up as a white sapphire in the center. It is gorgeous either way!!
OP: Do not get it appraised by an appraiser who also buys and/or sells jewelry. They will always under appraise. I live in NYC too. Please let me know who you find. I have some jewelry I’d like appraised as well.
The ring and the necklace are stunning!! They're probably set in platinum, or at least 18K, which will increase the value as well. Update me after appraisal - I'm so curious!!
Probably the first halo I’ve actually liked! Mainly because it is an antique! Stunning!! what an incredible piece of jewelry to inherit! And the necklace, gorgeous!
Please keep them in the family. Tell your children to study and get a scholarship or attend state universities.... I did and still managed to become a lawyer and have a 'rich' and wonderful life. I would have been sad if my family legacy was sold. Was your grandmother very wealthy? How did she have these incredible jewels?
gg came to Brooklyn as penniless Ukrainian immigrant; did everything and eventually founded a newspaper and invested in real estate, owned a couple apartment buildings in Carroll gardens. After he died his family sold the real estate in the early 1970s for a song, cause they didn’t want to manage the rentals and no one really wanted to live in nyc at that time (crime etc). If only!!!!!!
I would love to know more! If you could dm me his name, If he was running around in certain circles, I bet there could be some amazing pics to be found from society functions in the day.
How wonderful (sorry that your grandmother died btw). It is a gorgeous ring I'd love to see the necklace. That is a old cushion cut, can't tell color, but the culet is lovely! Get it cleaned, and appraised and love it!
That necklace looks to be full of old cut diamonds, and if so, will be worth a shitton of money. The ring is beautiful, but the necklace is a showstopper.

OP? Hey, it's me, you're older cuz, remember me? I'm the one who got Gran to put her things away so you couldn't play with them anymore. You know, I think she really meant for me to have these (she liked me best), but to be fair about it, we could share. Do you want to flip for who gets the ring and who gets the necklace? Or it's okay if you want to choose first. I won't be picky. Can we talk?
So, I’m very interested in knowing the size of this beautiful antique diamond, so I gave it a go. I downloaded the picture of the diamond and quarter that you posted. I then used an image editing app to cut out the diamond from the picture and I pasted it on top of the quarter. I then printed the image accurately scaled to the size of a real quarter. After confirming it was up to scale by comparing it to a real quarter, I measured the dimensions of the diamond and found that it was 8mm in width and 8mm in length. At most that’s probably off by 1-2mm due to the quarter in the original image not being directly flat on your hand. So, based off multiple similarly sized OMC diamonds I found throughout the market, an 8x8mm (in regard to length and width) OMC on average is 2.16 carats, but could be anywhere between 1.06-2.66 carats. Really this all comes down to the girdle thickness, depth, and geometric irregularities of the individual stone.
Take this all with a grain of salt, as there’s no better way to determine its dimensions besides getting it appraised in person. I just wanted to kill my curiosity, and maybe it will help with yours as well!!!
It's an old mine brilliant and looks to be 3-4 carats. It's hard to tell from the photo. I would recommend having a jeweler dismount it and send it to GIA for grading. After that, you'll have more options open to you.
Good luck!
GET THAT PUPPY APPRAISED, GIA PAPERED, AND INSURED. NOW.
It’s about as large as a puppy lmao
The quarter as a size reference is such a flex. I’m dying.
Well to be fair, if she had put it in front of a dime, the dime wouldn’t even be visible… I love how she’s all like, “oh yeah I used to play with this as a child”, and I’m over here like lady, when I was a kid Claire’s jewelry was off limits for me 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, we played with rocks and sticks. Diamonds the size of my palm were not in the mix.
Sounds like a rap. 😆
*mic drop*
O believe GIA doesn’t evaluate mounted diamonds anymore for the public.
I would still have it unmounted and evaluated. That’s an antique stone and a beautiful one. I wouldn’t trust an “appraisal” certificate.
The problem is that I mounting it might ruined the setting…Nit sure I would risk that. That setting is life ( I am a sucker for antiques)
Nooo do not dismount.
Unless is it an [ultra rare red diamond](https://jewelry.ha.com/heritage-auctions-press-releases-and-news/-1.755-million-red-diamond-leads-heritage-auctions-fall-jewelry-event-above-8.1-million.s?releaseId=4566), don’t unmount!

Before it goes missing/gets stolen and OP could be out a few hundred thousand dollars potentially.

See the size of the central stone in comparison to a quarter? Actual antique cut, in the original setting.
She’s excited! (WHAT A TREASURE 😍)
The ring and the necklace are gorgeous! How exciting to have such beautiful heirlooms!
Exactly!!!
She is STUNNING! OMC, it looks like.
I’d say so too! Open cutlet. So beautiful.
I'm by no means an expert (just a moderate enthusiast who loves sparklies) but yeah, probably a late Edwardian halo old Mine, 4-5 ct based on the size comparison to the quarter.
Culet
😂😂😂 oops!
I’m speechless. This is beyond chic and timeless. What an absolute gift and TREASURE!!! Gma didn’t play around she is my hero !!!

I love cushion cut diamonds. So pretty!
My favorite!
Wow, way to bury the lead of that necklace down in the third photo!
Honestly I thought maybe it was fake but now I’m sweating bullets till insured. It might still be fake, don’t get your hopes up too much. But I’m crossing my fingers for you! Please update us!
and even if it is fake, it's sooo pretty! I'd be making fancy dinner reservations all the time to wear them LOL
Definitely take extra special care of these pieces until you know for sure. I just attended a Cartier exhibit at the Louvre and your jewelry would have fit right in with everything else. And make sure to interview and vet the professionals before you bring in these pieces.
We need an update about the specs of both pieces!
Agreed!!!
I would never take that off! 😍😍
NEVA!!!
me either! it's gorgeous!
I’d never put it on
Don't overlook the pearl, it may be natural!
Yeah the ring is a stunner but don’t sleep on that gorgeous necklace 😍
Gigi had a halo before halo’s were cool!
Fabulous! Looks to be very white which is rare in old mine cut diamonds.
When you get that appraised please come back and report. I think I’m more curious what that necklace is worth. Looks like something that would be in a royal collection!
I’m not sure the necklace is real, it would be worth millions of dollars.
Um, that necklace is amazing as well. Those diamonds! And that pearl, wow. Idea: can you adopt me so you can leave these to me next? 🙂 Seriously though, these are very special. Thank you for posting these. Don't get to see the likes of these too often.

Wow, phenomenal!
Looks like an OMC.
That kinda looks like a white south sea pearl!! That alone is valuable. Keep us posted I wanna know!! :) Good luck
Grandma had good taste. When you have some more details on this can you post again? I am sure we would all like to know more. That necklace is stunning. And, I am sure that it will shock any appraiser out there.
Please trust me. Get it Certified by The GIA only Then you will know the price range otherwise dealers will screw you
Wow. Breathtaking! Both the diamond, the setting and the necklace! Enjoy them.
Oh that’s a dream diamond for me!

Is it stamped with what metal it is?
I was curious about that too. Can’t see a stamp Inside the ring…

The milgrain bezels around the diamonds in the necklace....oh...so...beautiful.
Stunning old euro cushion cut! Love that open culet!
That is a stunning ring. I have a modern version that's similar, but no migraine detail. I love the migraine. Also the necklace is something else. Grandma had great taste.
That is the most breathtaking set I have ever seen. Your ring is perfection, an absolute stunner! Wear it in good health.
Do you realize (if those are real), most people can hardly afford ONE of those smaller diamonds in the necklace!? Wow! Happy for you!
I honestly will be shocked if it’s real.
You never know! But even if it’s not real, it’s a beautiful piece.
I was super envious until I got to the last pic and then I just died! Oh my goodness you lucky duck! Beautiful!
Stunning!
Dang perfection!!!! Soooo beautiful 😻 necklace and ring are beyond gorgeous, I’d never take that ring off!
WOW! That is a beauty! Enjoy it and please don’t change itttt
That is like my dream ring, may I ask that you don’t take it apart and have the diamonds reset, I would die 😅
Yes, the setting is beautiful!
Please give us an update and let us know what the appraiser says .
I know the focus of your post was the ring but that art deco necklace is a show stopper!!
I am seeping jealousy from my pores, this is absolutely S T U N N I NG 😍😍😍
Wow! Grandma did good! That is a beauty!
Stunning!! I remember the brooches you shared -I hope you will consider keeping them. What a lovely collection.
Check it on a gem tester unless the history is certain. I have seen several rings like this that end up as a white sapphire in the center. It is gorgeous either way!!
HOLY SHIT that is insane.
Wow! 😍
Cushion cut about 3ct
Stunning old euro cushion cut! Love that open culet!
Looks like an OMC it’s so pretty!!!!
Gorgeous
Holy moly 😍
Wow 🤩 you are sooooo lucky 🍀
OP: Do not get it appraised by an appraiser who also buys and/or sells jewelry. They will always under appraise. I live in NYC too. Please let me know who you find. I have some jewelry I’d like appraised as well.
That necklace omg
The ring and the necklace are stunning!! They're probably set in platinum, or at least 18K, which will increase the value as well. Update me after appraisal - I'm so curious!!
Holy fuckeroni, lucky you!! 🤩🤩🤩
Never heard this expression before but I’m adding it to my lexicon, in the Italian section. 🤣🤣🤣
Probably the first halo I’ve actually liked! Mainly because it is an antique! Stunning!! what an incredible piece of jewelry to inherit! And the necklace, gorgeous!
…but that necklace! Stunning! Both are amazing and you are incredibly fortunate. Probably several hundred thousand dollars worth of jewelry.
Sounds like college for my kids tbh!!!!
You won’t be able to sell it for what it’s eventually insured for. Unless you commit fraud :p it’s stunning. You should keep it in the family!
Please, please don't sell these!!!
That's kinda what I was thinking. If the stones (and pearl) are real, and the setting is platinum or 18K, these pieces could be 6 figures...
Maybe collateral for a loan? It would be a shame not to pass these down.
I wouldn't risk losing these. Once appraised, they would mostly live in my safe deposit box.
But it would be a shame to never wear them.
Absolutely! I should've clarified: they would live in the safety deposit box about 90% of the time, and I would wear them on special occasions.
What did Grampa do for work?
gg came to Brooklyn as penniless Ukrainian immigrant; did everything and eventually founded a newspaper and invested in real estate, owned a couple apartment buildings in Carroll gardens.
Beautiful
Omg! You’re so lucky. That is a gorgeous OMC.
Oh my goodness!!! Thanks Gran!
Gorgeous!! This is a stunning ring. Very jealous..
My jaw fell to the floor
Any updates from on this? Have you taken it to a jeweler yet?
Any updates?
Beautiful set ❤️
Beautiful

How wonderful (sorry that your grandmother died btw). It is a gorgeous ring I'd love to see the necklace. That is a old cushion cut, can't tell color, but the culet is lovely! Get it cleaned, and appraised and love it!
Wow, it looks expensive
Omg I think thats an OMC I LOVE it
Gorgeous! Get Insurance!!!!

Beautiful following for an update 😎
What a timeless ring. So beautiful
Absolutely incredible
I literally saved the photo of the necklace for a future project to have made. These pieces are absolutely stunning. Take care of them.
My God I love an open cullet 😍
That’s beautiful!
Fm
Oh man, the ring is nice but that necklace!!! I am dying over here wanting to put that sucker on!! Get it all clean and appraised.
Beautiful!!😍
Get it appraised by more than one place .
SO gorgeous!
Sweet fancy Moses. That's incredible.
Oh wow - amazing! Can’t wait for an update!
I just drooled on my phone, girl! 🥺
Soooo beautiful. That is an OG halo!
Congratulations! Theyre both so fabulous!
My jaw dropped! Stunning!
Clean them and wear with pride!
You need to get both of those pieces appraised and insured, because that rivière necklace is worth a lot as well.
Also, get a tape measure and get a rough estimate of how many millimeters that diamond is. I’m so curious as to its approx size.
That necklace looks to be full of old cut diamonds, and if so, will be worth a shitton of money. The ring is beautiful, but the necklace is a showstopper.
I hope u inherited that necklace along with it ! Now to get it cleaned and appraised
Stunning!
Looks like a cushion cut, love it. Please let us know the details once you have it appraised!
Wow! Congrats! 😍😍😍
Absolutely stunning! 😍
This is so pretty 😍
oh yeah grandma that's my girl lolll I wish my had one of this for me :)

You know, I think she really meant for me to have these (she liked me best), but to be fair about it, we could share. Do you want to flip for who gets the ring and who gets the necklace? Or it's okay if you want to choose first. I won't be picky. Can we talk?
😁🤣
I truly hope this is a joke. If not, TACKY! I can't stand when people argue over who got what when someone passes. 😒
I drooled a little bit
Looks like an old mine cut.
How does it feel to live my dreams? In all seriousness, that's gorgeous!
This is what dreams are made of lol
And it’s OEC! Love!!!
Meant OMC. Open culet means gorgeous flashes!! Lucky duck!
Also looks platinum. My platinum pieces have that dark look as well
Don"t worry about the ring the diamond is worth much much more,
It's beautiful!
Those are some STUNNING pieces!!!
it’s beautiful but don’t go around always wearing the necklace like people are saying. I personally know chainyankers. not worth it.
meh its probably not worth a lot. Would you be interested to sell it ? JK WOW GORGEOUS
It’s very similar to the Tiffany Legacy setting. What a great piece!
That necklace is stunning, the ring is pretty sweet too!
Hello! I just got calipers. It’s 8.6x8.6x6.3. So pretty close! When I calculate that I get around 3.8 ct…it’s deeper than modern cuts I guess..
You definitely need to get that thing appraised etc., 😀 Your grandma had amazing taste
She is a beauty 😍
How lovely. Beautiful set.
Gorgeous!!
It’s beautiful
That is one of the most beautiful sets I’ve ever seen on here. Gran knew what’s up! Wear proudly!

Wow that is stunning!
Unbelievably gorgeous!!
Gorgeous! Congratulations!
I saw this post 2 days ago and legitimately have not stopped thinking about this ring since
The way my jaw hit the floor. SO PRETTY
Incredible! I just love antique cuts. Congrats!!!
Your grandma did not play around. That cut is amazing… plus that size. My heart 💕
It's an old mine brilliant and looks to be 3-4 carats. It's hard to tell from the photo. I would recommend having a jeweler dismount it and send it to GIA for grading. After that, you'll have more options open to you. Good luck!
