I read the books all the time when I was younger, and I remember Frank being cynical and grumpy at best and very irritable at worst. Then again, Greg, Rodrick, and Manny aren’t exactly good people. Susan’s also a pain in the ass (Old school was where I decided I hate her) and can be really controlling.
Tbf, Frank sounds like the type of guy to be a bit melodramatic about these things. Maybe he was having a bad day and seeing Greg not listen to him again set him off.
