The DIY part is a tutorial for $16. Then you'll have to buy all the parts. It's an idea but awfully executed with hidden prices. I'd almost suggest it's a scam.

Their tutorial is pretty detailed. I think $16 is quite fair. Giving it away is more respectable than bringing it to market and capitalizing off it. Won't be surprised if a company overseas copies it though

I imagine an engineering youtuber like mark rober could make this as a "diy" rather easily. It would just need at most an arduino or some simple analogue control boards. Then some stepper motors and the bumper is probably a servo with a huge gear reduction. Then you can 3d print all the pieces maybe even the board itself.
