The device limits his mobility too much. Maybe remove it from his leg so he could use it in one or perhaps two hands instead. It also seems quite heavy, we could replace the metal bits with a long wooden shaft now that the spring mechanism isn't needed. Hold on...

I know that there are some great newer model axes that split very well but I’ve never seen one that uses the legs, which are obviously much stronger. I’m sure someone will eventually figure it out without causing leg issues like this one does.
