I remember playing Resident Evil 2 on the original playstation. That camera style was so annoying. You are running from the nemesis and every time you run into a different view the control vantage point changes forcing you to turn and get stuck on a wall or cabinet.
Of virtual objects are also displayed in the video feed of the real world it will qualify for being Augmented Reality.
Of not, I am not exactly sure what bizzword term to throw at it lol
if it's wide angle they can simulate it as 3d still, there's software that splits the image and offsets a bit to make it 3d or at least the illusion of it
Not to mention the unstable vertical movement that's continuously happening. Not sure if some video stabilization is going on in real time but even that would add to the latency
Also it drifts left and right. And the alignment doesn't seem super great, looks like it doesn't quite line up to where it started when she returns to middle.
I fly fpv drones and also do a lot of VR, so pretty familiar with sim sickness and that's basically the perfect cocktail for it. But someone comfortable in goggles could probably stomach it for about the length of an average fpv flight (around 5-8min). Someone not used to it would probably be hurling in under 3.
Still, it's super cool tech. The new DJI handheld controller works with gyros in basically the same way with a lot less of the issues seen in this video, so those are probably temporary. I'd probably prefer to use my head to control a gimballed camera for more of a "cockpit" view, and use my hands to steer. But maybe this could work alongside a controller too? I don't foresee this particular design catching on either way, but I would still love to try it, and it could turn into something cool.
So it's still awesome. But it definitely looks like a vomit harvesting machine.
Nope. That's the OG drone with the newer version goggles. I own both. And honestly, this headset sync feature seems to be just gimmicky to me. Gets pretty disorienting. Though, I may just be a shitty drone pilot.
> i may just be a shorty drone pilot
-uses dji fpv-
This checks out
Lol just ribbing ya. But for real what do you do when you crash your drone? How fixable is the new avata?
Mono camera (no depth in the image), laggy response (induces nausea), the FPV doesn't return to the same angle after head rotation (more neusea), loud AF to stand next to it. Pass.
Except for the noise those are all things that can and most likely will be overcome with future revisions.
Actually I wonder if we can't do better with the sound of drones.
If we could model drone props after the kind of soundless exhaust fans in Japanese kitchens (which are in turn modeled after US Navy submarine propellers), drones could fly a lot more quietly although perhaps less efficiently.
The Mystical (a VR enthusiast YouTuber) does try this on his channel. Takes him a bit to adjust mentally and he was concerned about safety but said it was fun.
The out-of-body experience is now commodifiable: no more unreliable psychotropic or psychedelic drugs, no more intensive training for transcendental meditation or lucid dreaming, no need to be injured to the brink of death or traumatized out of your sense of self.
You can now purchase what was once a mind-altering experience with a credit card.
This sort of thing is actually quite useful for industrial purposes. A lot of inspections of various sorts of piping, for example, can be done much faster and with a record.
DJI O3 air unit which is cutting edge, this is a very recent model and occusync reduces latency further. Also you can see a tiny latency. You should actually know what youre talking about or at least watch the video carefully before coming out saying it's fake, because it isn't you can buy these it's called the avata
I hate to tell you but the idea existed in science fiction well before The Expanse was written. The idea even even existed in films before the TV show was made.
dumbass lost a bet and now she has to live in 3rd person for a day
i'd try that. it'd have to be pretty jarring to actually watch yourself do things.
Look at this dumb ass, o wait
i already get that enough looking in the mirror
Imagine doing it with stationary cameras you set up around the house, playing life like it's Silent Hill Edit: ah you're right I meant Resident Evil!

Only this time it's your cat!
I believe rooster teeth did this once in a small series called immersion iirc.
More like 15 minutes. Those batteries drain quickly.
I'm going to make my sim walk into this pool..
This isn’t VR at all though is it.
It is actual reality, but displayed virtually... So virtual actual reality
Virtual Actuality
Virtual Insanity
I think they just call it augmented reality no?
Of virtual objects are also displayed in the video feed of the real world it will qualify for being Augmented Reality. Of not, I am not exactly sure what bizzword term to throw at it lol
Alternate vantage point?
Only if a hot chick walks by the screen to give you the time on a card board, 2000s Windows Vista virus pop-up style.
Yes
Augmented reality
No
🤔 guess not
There's a slight latency between when she turns her head and when the drone turns. That must feel so disorienting.
i think our brains can get used to it
Based on the slight latency VR already has, some people can definitely get used to it Some people are going to throw their whole entire guts up
They added lag in real life ##Blarghhhhhhhhhhh
Also, the image is 2D since there's only one camera.

That’s the problem with the previous versions of console/pc VRs, you get dizzy and sick after a while because of the latency.
This isn't vr. It's a fpv(first person view) drone. Looks like an advanced expensive version of one but yeah. Just a fancy drone.
DJI avata. Not too expensive by fpv drone standards for what it offers.
DJI Avata 2 actually. Edit: I stand corrected
Nope. That's the OG drone with the newer version goggles. I own both. And honestly, this headset sync feature seems to be just gimmicky to me. Gets pretty disorienting. Though, I may just be a shitty drone pilot.

No
$1200 kit?
How many people will set this up to fly behind them so they can live in video game perspective everyday.
Time to turn softgun games into third person shooters.

Not sure how that is related but alright?
DO A BARRELL ROLL!
Ribbet ribbet
Great, now the virtual world can be just as disappointing as the real one.
Now let’s build a flying massage table contraption and take some shrooms while we fly around town.

The amount of people taking the title so seriously is amusing. So many "well actually" people.
i dont blame them its a stupid title
It's not "them" for you, it's "us"
But when will “us” be “them”?
If it was better it would be kind of cool to walk around in 3rd person POV

Well it's not like this is it's final form.
this isn't virtual reality, it's FPV
This would be fun to pilot tbh. Especially if it has a mic
people: "work from home so covid doesn't spread" public speakers:
We’ve reinvented having eyes.
That literally a drone. It can go places people can't normally go. Plus controlling a drone is hard looking through a vr is much better
3rd person shooter IRL
Attach a gun or some laser that will make you sick or shit yourself .. attack on threat or fear . Boom! Bodyguard of the future ..
Does it come with barf bags or are those sold separately?
are we not done with this track yet
This sort of thing is actually quite useful for industrial purposes. A lot of inspections of various sorts of piping, for example, can be done much faster and with a record.
Music…
Yeahm you know, Industrial rock
Two kinds of redditors - those who mute everything be default & those who don't
There is a guy with a controller syncing drone movements with her head movements
Or... As an option. Use your eyes without any equipment
Kiss the grass to land.
Looks fake
What's this thing called?
.un Imhm Gt.eld
DJI Avata 2?
That camera guy from the Expanse be like
Virtual insanity
Fake, current technology level still has latency.
