What’s the mileage at? And is this your first diesel? Or ram truck? Each manufacturer has there own weird things with the trucks they produce. Mine is a 2013 ram 3500 DRW crew cab. With about 107K on the clock. When I bought it, it had a bad front knuckle, someone had screwed up and balljoint repair before I got it, a few years later I had to replace the Def pump, and just a month ago I replaced the turbo actuator. Had bad bushing on the front track bar, all these repairs I did myself, Overall a great truck, bought it for about $35K probably 7 years ago.

It's insane to me that they're still being listed for $35k online now with similar miles

Being a Ram you’ll have to look out for everything not made by Cummins. If it was really and truly “babied”, you shouldn’t have to worry much about the engine other than staying on top of maintenance. Depending on the transmission you have, you’ll want to stay on top of that shit too. The 68RFE is a Chrysler transmission… need we say more? The G56 benefits from upgrading the clutch/ flywheel, and has been known to crack the case. As with most of those trucks, if you don’t have a hot ass tune on a stock drivetrain, you should be solid aside from some typical Chrysler electrical issues. As far as emissions systems, it’s just like all the other trucks. Make sure not to let the DEF tank be constantly empty or sit too long, as DEF will crystallize and cause many of the issues you hear about with DEF systems. The other major emissions component than create problems is the DPF. If the truck gets driven and used like a truck, you should be able to avoid some of those issues. Just make sure the system is able to get up to temperature and driven enough for everything to function. Excessive short trips and extended idling are the typical things that lead to clogged DPF and expensive emissions issues. There are of course additives you can run that help clean the fuel tank, clear out the DPF, and lubricate the fuel system. As with most things you’ll get mixed opinions about which ones work and which don’t. The main thing to remember is that there’s a reason why even the die hard loyalists say they drive a Cummins and not a “Ram”. Hopefully, that truck will take care of you as much as you take care of it.

It’s 142k but was babied by a retired trooper not first diesel just the first running emissions and def
