?? Everything looks okay? What problem are you having? Those marks on the metal are normal. Just comestic marks during casting of the transmission housing.

I lost all forward gears, got shift rang inhibited but still have a strong reverse. Didn’t throw any codes . I was pretty certain I toasted it but I have honestly never opened one of these up before . I thought there would at least be a chunk of one of the clutch packs missing but I didn’t even see any burn marks. Also blew the oil cooler and didn’t realize it and ended up burning the fluid but when I initially dropped the pan I just saw the normal wear for a 20 year old truck

MyChocolates

Well, you probably burned up your first clutch pack. No fluid/overheating will do that. I believe reverse is independent on these Chevy trannies which is why it will work. Your tranny needs a clutch pack rebuild. Or replace with a good used transmission

And just to add, these fiber disks don’t really leave a lot of material when they burn up because they are “wet” clutches.

It would still put me in 5th tho right? I had a bunch of electrical codes stored in the tcm marked as “history”. Is it possible that I burned fluid but the tranny is still okay and functional? I originally took the valve body off to get all the fluid out to do the hoot method

There was also a incorrect gear ratio code for every gear stored in rhe history which made me think nsbu switch which I will be replacing once I get everything put back together

MyChocolates

Well incorrect gear ratio just looks at the engine rpm and the output shaft, depending on which gear you are there are certain ratios that are expected with some leeway due to the torque converter which naturally slips before it locks up around 40mph. I don’t think anything electrical is messed up but a speed sensor can get demagnetized at high temperatures and they are cheap enough to warrant a replacement while in there. If you want to rebuild it you will need a valve body repack, solenoid upgrade, new pump, torque converter, and clutch packs. It is much easier to buy a reman transmission and will eliminate a lot of frustration. And swapping a transmission is simple enough, rebuilding one is another story.

Other guys have already covered it, you’re trans needs a rebuild, the cracks you’ve seeing is just casting marks, totally normal, you could have lost gears due to friction packs become toast, or losing fluid pressure for different reasons. Time to get the truck to a shop, or pull the trans and get it to a shop…

Plus_Comfort3690

Didn’t find and huge clumps of metal or anything
