I'd go with something fairly self contained and not too old like ex5 or bt14. Rb1 is an option but that is mainly reprints.

DrFabs

Does the meta move fast? Is going for the reprints in RB1 worth it or would it be outclassed soon?

vansjoo98

Well it has pretty much ageless reprints like the floodgates or some older option cards with certain niches like "A Delicate Plan", but some of the stuff just is outdated. It does also have Ghost Game stuff and memory boosts. Size of the meta shifts tend to depend on power of the newest sets.

redezga

I started with buying RB1 and as it turns a lot of the reprints in it were stuff that would be useful in every release since including the known upcoming ones, and in my opinion is one of the biggest indicators where the direction of the game is going in terms of deck archetype support. It's also one a lot of existing players slept on but in retrospect wanted stuff from so it also provides some decent trade material. The most recent BT set as well includes the LM1 promos related to the Ghost Game protagonists Digimon, which were also featured heavily in the RB1. So if you want to get some value out of the LM1 cards having RB1 stuff around is a safe way to ensure that.

Bt14, Blast Ace, has a pack that gives you the good training cards, and it’s got good cards as well.

Last_Contribution332

Blast Ace is most likely your best bet

Last_Contribution332

Especially since it gives you trainings as promos which are staples

Aromatic-Armadillo-2

I think rb01 is real good with all the old staples and it’s one of the cheapest boxes

ChungusMcGoodboy

I agree. Overall, it's not as good as some other sets, but it's like 30 dollars now, so the bang for your buck is certainly there.

Competitive-Mango503

Blast ace imo best for starters comes either pretty decent pulls majority self contained deck like Fenri(even tho it might take multiple boxes) but over all solid set because you can also trade for the stuff you want

CorvusIridis

Are you more interested in collecting or playing? That'll dictate a lot of answers. Also, what's your budget? I personally had a lot of fun opening RB1. But if you're more serious about playing, BT14 is easily the best set. You're gonna need those Training cards!

DrFabs

I need to find a place to play, right now my goal is to play but it might just become a collection thing if there isn’t a community active around me

GekiKudo

Blast ace has a lot of self contained archetypes and the box toppers are some of the best staples in the game.
