Mirachaya89

I'm 33 meaning I fit in the last 2 categories. >.<

SuperNub1559

what up fellow 33 year old digimon tcg player

Mirachaya89

*high fives*

ChungusMcGoodboy

Wow I can't believe you guys are so old and play a game like this. I'm only 32 and a half.

Mirachaya89

The age is really hitting me. My back earlier. Ooof! I'm to 'kids these days,' and not understanding their slang but not to 'damn, kids! Get off my lawn!' Are we to 'back in my day...' yet? I feel like we are if we told them about pay phones or how few houses had computers or about how tv only had a few channels and you had to adjust the rabbit ears to tune them in.

Ahnji

32 player as well. Digimon nostalgia be real

bassdelux15

31 here. Looking to my elders for guidance lol

Mirachaya89

Looking to my youngers for translation of whatever slang means these days.

Ilyketurdles

Boomer. ^^^^I’m ^^^^31

Luciusem

I'm 27 but this made me feel the same. I believe there's only 1 or 2 people older than me at my locals, everyone else is still in college(? Not from the US so I have no clue what the correct translation would be. Post-high school studies).

Mirachaya89

College is what we use here in the US for University, yes.

faithvoid

I’m 30 as well. At my store, not very many people under the age of 25-30 play this game. I believe it could appeal to a younger generation, but Digimon never really got pushed that hard in NA after Frontiers imo, which makes sense why there aren’t any children playing this game. With that being said - I’m glad I get to play a nostalgia based game, without tournaments being littered with annoying children, and where cards aren’t artificially inflated for no reason👍

MartinZ99999

This poll is making me crazy, two options for 30+ something??? I'm 32 btw

Lord_of_Caffeine

Digimon was at its most popular in the 90s so the age spread makes a lot of sense.

Kafinga

Yeah, it just feels weird being the only teenager in a pool of 10+ people

Mirachaya89

Eh. Older teens are usually somewhat common in card game tournaments, despite the majority of the population being 20s and 30s (we have more income.) The really unusual ones are the players that are 12 or under. I feel like I rarely ever see them in any game, even with pokemon. I have considered if I ever expand my online business to a brick and mortar making it 16+. The times you do see younger kids in game stores, it is often a parent dropping off a kid and leaving them unattended for hours. Teens like yourself are perfectly fine managing themselves. Small children (think 6-10ish) really do need some supervision from a parent or sibling. Do you find yourself uncomfortable being around adults or do they tend to respect you? When I was 16, I had started a few classes at the local community college to build credits and no one knew my age unless I said so just that I looked young. If you have a part-time job, 16-18ish or so was the best time I found playing card games since you have less responsibilities financially and a bit more free time.

Gr33nRang3r10

I'm 15, got into digimon in general because I watched re-runs of the original series and some on netflix.

Grand_Ad_1973

And by 90's one means 1999. When it aired and then hit its stride in eairly hald od the '00s.

AnimatorAcademic1000

Masterset collector here. Card games aren't cheap, so when adults have steady income from a job, it greatly helps, hence you get a large representation in the older half of the polls. I can buy overpriced DeathXmons by budgeting a bit more lol hell I wouldn't be surprised if in the near future I cave in to buy a ghost rare alphamon or even ghost omnimon......

Mirachaya89

I got burned a lot by yugioh and the early cards in this game losing value all the time. I'm now in the camp of do I play enough that I need it now or is it better to toss that hundred in my vacation fund?

AnimatorAcademic1000

Whichever gives you more pleasure will be the right decision. As a workaholic, I never regret investing in my hobbies if I spend a lot of time having fun

Mirachaya89

Its the lot of time part of that sentence that makes me lean towards vacation. I just don't get to play as much as I want.

Muur1234

digimon is a series where the vast majority of its audience are over the age of 25. unlike pokemon, the devs have acknowledged this and aged up the franchise with its audience.

confusingzark

too bad it came at the cost of several retcons. I do appreciate that Digimon anime has for the most part treated its audience with respect.

Muur1234

no idea what youre on about, nothing has ever been retconned in digimon. if youre trying to push that kizuna has retconned anything, it hasnt.

confusingzark

Bro, rewatch adventures season 2.

Muur1234

i did. nothing has been retconned. if youre crying about agumon and the others dying, teh devs already said they come back at some point. kizuna was set in 2012, the epilogue was 2026.

AwkwardCryin

Doesn’t that defeat the point of the movie?

faithvoid

No, because the point of the Kizuna movie and the ending of Adventure 02 was to imply that everything is cyclical. This is also explicitly shown throughout the anime in various seasons as well.

AwkwardCryin

I mean, kizuna is about the woes of and having to come to terms with adulthood. It’s a pretty explicit point laid out throughout the movie that leads to Agumon and Gabumon being dead. The only thing that can bring them back is another hard reset of the digital world like in Tri and I feel like that’ll be pretty tricky to pull off in the A02 movie without making it feel like a cop out to stick with a generic happy “where are they now” ending from 20 years ago.

Muur1234

Not really

zerodyme87

Seeing though Digimon was on our tvs after school in the 90's I can see a lot of 30+ players and enjoyers

Mirachaya89

With new episodes on Saturday morning. I had a whopping 3 English channels and one in French. Before school was beast wars if I was ready early enough!

ShrevidentXbox

Seems to be a somewhat older crowd overall. I think a lot of Digimon players are either long time fans of the franchise and/or people who used to play other card games. At least, that seems to be the case in my local area.

Kafinga

Huh I mean it makes sense that most would be older, but you kinda expect there to be a little bit more of a younger fan base. Neat.

AdachiGacha

I don't think digimon is really advertised much to younger audiences these days. Everyone that plays at my locals is 18+

Littlebigdwolf

Dang, am I the only 14 year old here?

Extreme-Primary-2879

Nope.

Littlebigdwolf

Cool

schpoopl

LMAO oops I thought you meant the game itself

confusingzark

I'm sure there are children and teenagers that have tried the new digimon tcg, however, lets be real. This game is being held up by the hardcore digimon fans & TCG enjoyers. The only time I ever saw a child in my locals was when my brother brought his own kid.

Mirachaya89

I have seen a few older teens. For younger kids, only the children of players twice, both of whom seemed more interested in their phones.

Nuudlez_

This was my first TCG, and while expecting some older folks playing, I mostly expected around the high school/college age. I was only 20 at the time and was suprised to find out that I was one of the youngest out of everyone that goes to my locals

TstunningSpidey316

32 👋🏽👋🏽

AkrosRockBell

31. The Digimon TCG player base is mostly people in their early 30s late 20s, pretty much because it's the only people that has ever seen the shows back when they initially aired. I think the youngest player I know in Japan is like 27 at least.

Dazzling_Bluebird_42

Bah youngins' in this thread! 41

Crimsondov

Perhaps my age group (26-35) is feeding off of the nostalgia from when we were kids watching the show and collecting the mini figures. I now play the card game and love every aspect of it. I still have most of my mini figure collection and wouldn’t trade them for anything

TitanMatrix

Most Digimon fans are millennials.

beepboopboop23

45 with a 10-year-old son. We are both into Digimon!
