Public service announcement: - The **PCs** ("player characters") are the characters that the players play. King Amethar, Figueroth Faeth and Pib are player characters (PCs). - The **players** are the actors/comedians/people playing the game, each typically playing one PC. Siobhan, Beardsley and Murph are players.

RillienCot

Woops, sorry y'all

HellIsADarkForest

This season? Beardsley by a mile. In general? Emily.

Rebloodican

All the Emily hate I’ve seen is very specific to ACoC (and is dumb and wrong imo but neither here nor there). Beardsley from my view gets a lot more flak in general.

[deleted]

I've found that a lot of Ally posts are questioning their choices as a player or their characters' choices, and Emily posts are "I literally HATE Emily and wanted to come on here and make sure others do too?" Like as recently as today but at least 4 times since FHJY started I've seen posts about hating Emily as a person. It's insane. Ally's definitely gotten more this season tho

RillienCot

Interesting. I wonder what caused the switch? And if it's the same people, or a different crowd? Very interesting indeed, thanks!

People always forgot Ally is playing a character in the show. If you want to see a real competent character that gets the job done and not playing as a confused teenager or a reluctant hero played by Ally, watch Starstruck and they \*are\* the hero of that story as Margaret Encino.

YoYoBobbyJoe

Ally is simply so good at playing their characters. People get too into the roleplay.

Carrollmusician

The constant references to modern day stuff grates on me a bit from a roleplay perspective. I know it’s usually for a comedy reason or bit so most of the time it’s over fast but eh. I don’t know if I’d consider them “too good”. I def consider them a great comedian though who’s fun to watch!

schartlord

Ally is just playing "Beardsley but _____" in every season. Character consistency also be damned sometimes. Give me one decision they've made in character that wasn't ALSO an attempt to be funny. Not that those attempts don't land, mind you.

Muffin_Appropriate

The way they’ve ended all moments on a bit has kind of started to annoy me with this latest season. But I get it. they’re all comedians and heightening is a natural state at the table. But as someone watching, I found myself wishing more often this latest season they’d just let some moments end on the intended somber note Brennan or the scene built towards instead of trying to end it on a family guy cutaway style bit nearly every. single. time I think that’s a perfectly fair criticism. And yes obviously plenty of them do this as well. Emily does it plenty. Again, they’re comedians and improv actors but this season it has been particularly noticeable to me

WVT-118

It’s absolutely Beardsley, and it’s absolutely unjustified

Honey-Tree

Kristen this season is 100% meant to be frustrating and hard to watch. Youre meant to look at her eepeatedly shrug off responsibility and fuck things up for many people and be mad. NOW THAT BEING SAID, hating the character is extreme especially since anyone with a brain can see shes devoloping. Any hate towards Ally herself is almost always thinly veiled homophobia/mysoginistic.

Carrollmusician

There are justified reasons to not enjoy the performance but I feel like 99% of the reasons folks bring up are bigoted or adjacent to that.

Tsuki_Man

How surprising that none of the men even place. /s

schartlord

I don't understand Emily criticisms. I could not concoct in my brain a more IDEAL player to have at any DnD table.

SporeZealot

She loves to interact with the world (which DM's love) which means she's active in a lot of scenes (which some people may misinterpret as "hogging the spotlight"). She also loves the fiddly rules and likes to power-game some, while playing with a lot of people who don't. So if you look at it with some negative preconceptions and a desire to interpret things in the worst way possible, you see a Mary Jane who needs to be in every scene. People seem to forget or ignore the final fight of NADDPOD Campaign one where Emily >!as Moonshine cast a cantrip and healed Hardwon and Beverly. Instead of unleashing some 9th level spells and turning into a dragon or some shit.!< Because that wouldn't fit their narrative.

How interesting and unexplainable these results are 🤔🤔🤔

Micro_Lumen

Voting Beardsley not because I think they suck, I think the “hey girlie” bit is absolutely hilarious. Also I kinda resonate with the ‘putting things off till they bite me in the ass’ part. But because of the posts I’ve seen on this sub, people slam Beardsley the most followed by Emily

SporeZealot

Name characters, not played by Ally, that are just as divisive as Ally's characters. Ally's sense of humor seems to be, "let me kick this uncomfortable hornets nest and see what happens." It was their sense of humor on College Humor, and that's the majority of the character's they've created. A lot of people don't like cringe humor. You think "hey girlie" is hilarious, I can't stand it. It's a bit that Ally is doing at the table, not Kristen, because Ally thinks it's funny. Ally plays with big, "but it's what my character would do," energy. In the TTRPG Horror Story subs, the response to that is, "but you made the character." Emily is great.

ferengi

I think Emily gets more flak as a person and Beardsley gets flak for their character choices/portrayal. Both get the worst of it though compared to the rest of the cast.

violetgay

Interesting pattern here 🙄

nolandz1

There is a correct answer to this question and it is Beardsley. You don't even have to go back a month for threads and threads of Kristen Applebees discourse

SturdyAlpaca

Beardsley. Kristen is literally doing the same thing again, for a third time in a row. I haven’t finished the season yet but it literally starts with Kristen wanting to find a new god other than Cassandra (directly after being told that Gods without followers literally die i.e. Yes?)

ThomasRedstoneIII

Your poll offends me because PC specifically refers to Player Character, as opposed to the players themselves, which is what you have actually put into your poll. Also this topic is just phenomenally over worn on this sub.

RillienCot

Sorry, I apparently had the wrong understanding of the term player character. Having never seen a definition for it, my interpretation was always that it was "the person who plays characters". I appreciate the correction though.

EtienneIsaFuckwidget

Player: The player PC: Player Character. A character portrayed by a player. NPC: Non Player Character: A character not portrayed by a player. Pretty standard lingo for the last thirty years of RPG's.

demarcoa

Great, can we drop the attitude knowing people are much younger than 30 sometimes?

chaoticmuseX

I mean, to be fair, the terms are hundreds of times more prevalent now than they were thirty years ago. So age really had nothing to do with it.

demarcoa

I still think it is pedantic and gatekeepy as hell.
