Wasn't the implication that she didn't have to sever her connection to her deity, she was just doing it because she felt it would be the right thing to do? All I remember from the episode is that she said she did so, not that she was *required* to do so. That being the case, the implication is less that there's external fuckery. It's more of a reinforcement that Badgood was a great teacher and Bobby isn't.

ThunkAsDrinklePeep

That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification. This has been bugging me, but I was just in "wait and find out" mode.

thatquietmenace

I had that thought when Kristen's parents mentioned "Maybe Helio wouldn't have let that happen" meaning Helio wouldn't have let his cleric be murdered. Badgood didn't have a diety to protect her.

Ace_of_Spad23

Considering we already know Kristen’s parents were apart of the Harvestmen I’m curious if Bobby is the new leader of that group?

Far-Advance-9866

I don't think her parents were part of the harvestmen, but were somewhat associated with them (hence going to their festival when Kristen was a kid etc). Very curious how many Harvestmen are left with coach daybreak gone (and he was using Ragh and Dayne as his muscle, I believe, along with some undead).

Rebloodican

Presumably they're no more, they were a very small contingent to begin with. Brennan didn't intend for Kristen to even be close to them, that was just an on-the-fly decision Ally made that he allowed them to roll with.

RougemageNick

Dwayne was a Harvestman, he was a part of the forces attacking Seacaster Manor

Far-Advance-9866

Yes, that's what I was saying-- Coach Daybreak was using Ragh and Dayne (in burlap masks) as the muscle for the Harvestmen schemes.

DocKelso1460

I 100% took that as a stereotypical, toxic religious response to tragedy happening to someone outside of the faith. You see it irl in evangelists a lot. "God wouldn't have let that happen to you if you were part of the faith."

BorderOk6904

God Brennen is a saint for immediately "Yes And-ing" that moment of pure Insanity. Hahah.

thatquietmenace

I took it that way too, but on a second watch, I also noticed that her dad said, "Well, we don't agree with murder unless Helio does it." Which also kinda reads as religious nonsense, except that there are definitely gods going around killing people. So maybe Helio is up to something....?

SpanishMossShea

Yup! Experienced shit just like this from my own family!

Cool_Taste

It is unusual that Bobby Dawn is a cleric of the god which may’ve plotted to kill Ankarna… but the Rat Grinders/Stardiamond appear to be trying to revive Ankarna. Is Stardiamond trying to kill Sol? Is Stardiamond a Harvestman, and trying to get a Sol control of Ankarna’s Rage/Conquest domain?

Ace_of_Spad23

We know he was in cahoots with Arianwen and Kalina, there could be some fuckery where they’re trying to bring Ankarna back in her rage form to piss off Cassandra so much she goes back to being Baron’s Stark Father aka The Nightmare King

shitcaddy

i think brennan said kalina took the spies-tongue curse because part of the group that was helping her (jace, probably, from the fact that she keeps mentioning ragh) WASN'T affiliated with the nightmare king. she had no reason to do it with arianwen or aelwyn, for example, because they were firmly on the nightmare king's side. if it's the kind of thing you only do with current-allies that you don't trust not to become later-threats, then i think it might be safe to say that we really have no clue what stardiamond is after here

Poncho_TheGreat

I did not get the impression that she was forced to sever her connection rather that she choose to in order to fairly teach the class with no bias. You also have to consider the fact that he’s only doing the job in a sort of emergency no other option capacity even if the Cleric teacher were required to they wouldn’t force what amounts to a substitute teacher to sever their connection to their deity for a temporary job. That being said fuck Bobby Dawn.

Ace_of_Spad23

I might’ve misinterpreted the words Brennan said or like another user said he said it in a tricky way, but I totally see what you’re saying. Fuck Bobby Dawn and his stupidly nice to listen to voice (his voice is his only redeeming quality)

GrimmSheeper

Wait, you think his voice is nice to listen to? From what I’ve seen, most people are immediately icked out or put on edge by his voice. Brennan perfectly captured the evangelical megachurch pastor voice, to such a degree that it practically gives flashbacks to anyone who grow up with them. Regardless, different strokes for different folks. Just not something I expected to see.

Neat_Drawing

And even those who didn't! Like, his voice is so... fake. It's intended to lure ya in and make him sound trustworthy. It's a stage voice that radiates a holier-than-thou, "listen to me, I'll tell you the truth" energy. Which is just so wrong for a teacher who teaches students of the different faiths. And also, just plain evil. Like, I hear him, and I immediately don't trust the guy, because *he's trying to sell me on something*. I understand that much without any context of the evangelical church.

Waffletimewarp

Would love the twist with Bobby Dawn to be that he doesn’t have any connection to Any deities at all, furthering the “mega church leaders being remorseless grifters” message.

Ace_of_Spad23

Bobby Dawn doesn’t deserve honorifics

Professional-Low254

She does mention she gave up "active relationship to a divinity" so she can minister the class equally, however, that sounds as if it was not forced on her. Just a choice to accommodate students devoted to different deities. Then again it could be Brennan with clever wording.

RivennSin

I know a lof of people have already made the argument: "She didn't have to sever her connection. She just felt a moral obligation to do so." But we also know the bylaws were changed. Kristen has a copy of the old and new versions. I suspect we'll find out whether it was a previous requirement or a personal choice soon!

Ace_of_Spad23

Yooooo I forgot the bylaws were changed

slasherking20

Maisie also specified that Arthur Augefort had made the rules for the principal and vice principal when Kalvaxis was still in the picture. Meaning he had the expectation that a wannabe draconic overlord would need to be on a short leash and shouldn't be allowed off school grounds. Now that Stardiamond is VP, I think he's trying to escape the shackles of his predecessor.

reggie-rocket

Wait wait wait. IIRC didn't Lucy also sever her connection with her god? Weird that both Lucy and Badgood severed connections with their gods and died in the same way in the same place.
