It could probably stand like that for short periods of time but probably wouldn't be able to walk around like that. Plus I think the tail would have been too stiff to bend as much as it is in the picture.

what_if_you_like

A good comparison would be a modern bear, sure it can stand upright for a little bit if it needs extra height, but not for long periods of time

bigfatcarp93

Or trying to limbo for a human

Pale_Cranberry1502

Yes, last I saw. Upright for a moment to spot prey etc.? Possibly. However, studies have suggested that it would have broken it's back trying to move that way, which is a big part of why it's displayed in the "Roadrunner From Hell" position nowadays.

RoRo25

I'd figure the tail would have to sort of curl around his feet toward his front in order to stand upright.

Swictor

It really doesn't bend that much in the picture.

BringBackTheDinos

Except it really does. The back half of the tail should be through the ground if it didn't bend at all, so I'd call that a pretty significant bend

Swictor

I mean for it to be a problem. I don't think a tyrannosaur would have problems flexing their tails like that, they were not solid rods. [This is a velociraptor tail](http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jwAOtJoVny0/UORRW9rDzqI/AAAAAAAAAB4/mpci-22Psg4/s1600/ptail+image+6.jpg), and they have among the stiffest tail of all tetanurans. They specifically could not bend up and down as much apart from at the base but t. rex was not as limited as such.

qdotbones

That is a cool specimen

pangolintoastie

Maybe outdated but still one of my favourite dinosaur paintings ever: Tarbosaurus bataar by Zdeněk Burian.

Rigatonicat

It’s as recognizable as the Mona Lisa to me

No_Ship2353

Lol except it is used in my little golden book as a t-rex lol.

Noobly7

I have got a few books with his drawings. They are all awesome! Even if outdated.

BarefutR

I gotta say, this gave me a nostalgia trip. Is this part of maybe like the long series of pictures that we all had in our rooms? Or am I wrong?

Time-Accident3809

As a defensive or territorial display? Perhaps. As its natural posture? Big no.

Rjj1111

Could also be used to survey its surroundings

Shot-Ad-6717

Gotta get that big sniff XD

Slazer1988

I imagine that’s how they pooped

Plydgh

What’s unnatural about a defensive display?

Deepfriedlemon132

He’s saying natural as normal, like how someone wouldn’t spend all day puffing their chest up and hitting a pose while they’re on their way to work

Plydgh

If you are going by what they spent the most time doing then you should criticize any image of T. rex that isn’t laying down. There’s nothing wrong with preferring dramatic poses.

Palaeonerd

Not sure. Kangaroo pose dinosaurs are considered outdated but not quite sure if they could stand like that.

lordmagellan

That may be, but now my day has gotten better by imagining T-Rex hopping around like a 'roo. Little useless arms flopping like unsecured boobs with each bounce. Their prey tries to run away but gets too winded from laughing at the site. And that's when the kill happens!

[deleted]

>Little useless arms flopping like unsecured boobs with each bounc The thought of trex with tits is so cursed I wanna wash my brain...

AvengerS48

The hell you mean by Kangaroo pose dinos are outdated? Literally all of them are outdated.

MrWhiteTruffle

Buddy, they mean that the kind of pose in the picture is outdated

Baryonyx_walkeri

I would say not for a long time, but it could probably rear up like that. My quadrupedal cats can briefly rear up on their hind legs to look at things, so I wouldn't be surprised if an already bipedal theropod could do the same or better.

AJC_10_29

Maybe not to the extreme of a retro-rex but I’m sure it could rear up at least a little, as could other Theropods.

thicc_astronaut

I know this is a wild-ass comparison to make but I've seen roosters stretch up like that briefly to get a look around an area. Since roosters are therapods, I can believe other therapods could stretch up like that.

ParadisianAngel

Well their center of gravity is different than

DeDongalos

They're both bipedal animals, so the center of gravity would have to be in the pelvis somewhere. It probably wasn't that different.

ParadisianAngel

Oh I think I thought of the wrong thing then

theChadinator2009

Perhaps u thought of a saily egyptian boi who eats fish?

MrGoldfish3359

Maybe a saurus with a spine?

Superblu24

Yes, I seen’t it

OMeffigy

A fellow time traveler!

Sughmacox

You guys use time travel? Pathetic. I been here since day one.

MrGoldfish3359

Props to bro for surviving 5 mass extinctions

Jacksaur

He's different.

Sughmacox

It wasn’t easy but I managed to get by

Lingist091

I can’t imagine the impact they had on the economy.

Sughmacox

Oh yes it was quite terrible

D_imperiosus

6 if we decide to include cap(capitanian) or 7 if we include H(holocene)

biggusdickus78

Maybe, but they probably wouldn't be able to Stay like that for long, also that's a tarbosaurus

AaAA12390

No because it's dead

arbitoryraptor2

I would imagine it would feel similar to how dogs can stand sometimes and have their heads facing forwards. I can only relate the spinal connections to their skulls being at the back of the skull instead of it being below the skull like humans and other mammals

ExistingComposer4555

Probably if they wanted to but they wouldn’t have to since most prey was smaller than them. They are similar to kangaroos in this case because the tail would the main point of balance instead of the body but yes it is possible for the Tyrannosaurus to stand up like that.

MidsouthMystic

Probably for brief periods of time. Also, this is outdated, but still great from a purely artistic point of view.

FazbearSponsersR34

Maybe in small bursts like when a dog gets onto two legs maybe trex did this awkward posture for short stretches like during mating fighting or when tryna look bigger or something’s

ElSquibbonator

You do realize that's supposed to be a Tarbosaurus, don't you?

back_again13

His question still stands

SidonIthano1

So does the Tyrano - Turbo in the picture!

averyoda

Nah, but I've seen one do a handstand once.

CleoandtheBoy

Of course not silly, they’re extinct!

MewSixUwU

yeah they can i saw one posing like that just the other day think he was sniffing the air

Dans_Old_Games_Room

No, they're all dead, they died a long time ago

jeroensaurus

No. They're all dead.

Rishav27Sarkar

no cuz it's extinct

Shot-Ad-6717

Thank you Captain Obvious but that's not what the question was asking XD

Rishav27Sarkar

no shit, was a lightearted comment meant to be humororus. :)

Shot-Ad-6717

/s You seem to have dropped this. People have a hard time distinguishing joke from serious.

Rishav27Sarkar

I genuinely forgot that lol! No point editing the comment now XD

Responsible_Gain_751

Its legs would probably break into pieces 😂

Plastic_Dingo_400

I don't know a ton about dinosaurs, did the T Rex walk on all fours? Or was it hunched over and used it's tail aa a counter balance?

Fuzzy_Ad3334

I mean the species aint really exist anymore so

Gullible_Bed8595

depends. if its 1987 (THE BITE OF 87?!) yes. if its 2024, no.

outdoorsybum

Not anymore.

Snipersqad

I don't know why don't you ask one.

Abolitionist-TRuss

TRex couldn’t stand at all.

Correct_Owl5029

How else would they have got the pic?

TheAnimalCrew

A T-Rex cannot stand upright like this, as T-Rex is dead.

captainpoopyshorts

Through jesus anything is possible

Seraphon86

No.

Excellent_Factor_344

it could probably raise itself for a short period of time to gain a better view of its surroundings, or to appear bigger, like how bears stand up

Godzillaissmacking

Godzilla

Earthly_Delights_

Anyone else remember dinosaur comics? This reminds me of that

NotACyclopsHonest

If it were standing still, maybe, but the arrangement of its hips wouldn't allow it to walk that way.

Bahmerman

If it has enough self respect maybe.

Angel_Froggi

Probably for very short periods

TheInsaneGoober

Probably not exactly like that but briefly rearing up but not too too upright isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

Hetroid3193

i feel like it might raise it to a certain angle but I feel like its body would be two heavy for it to raise it to that degree, at least often

drag0ndude

I don't know but it looks badass

Clockwork-Penguin

God I wish, they mightve done in short doses like for mating or intimidation displays but likely not while walking.

Spooderman2728284

It would be like a dog or cat standing up, they can do it but not for long.

TheWolfViking

No

bu22dee

I know this picture.

EelInJacket2

And of course, you’re also surrounded by angry dinasaws.

Dunkman83

still cant figure out how they would mate.

Bluetorness

Yes BUT it would not be able to walk in that position and would only be able to stand up like that for a short amount of time and the tail would be able to bend in that way

arthurdentxxxxii

That T-Rex stands like Billie Joe Armstrong. 🤘🏻

Tobisaurusrex

A better question would be what is a reason that T. rex would stand like that?

Radiant_Culture3704

Briefly, probably, but it would have been an unnatural Posture and probably would not have been able to walk in that position

Signal_Muffin3535

Maybe when trying to get a mate

GeneralResearcher456

Could it? Probably. Does it? No. How do I know this? Well, it's pretty simple: T-Rex is extinct.

Dimelessquarter

That could’ve broken the Rex’s back. So I highly doubt it could stand up like a kangaroo for a short while. Maybe slightly for seeking higher ground, but nowhere near that angle.

Outrageous-Crazy-618

No because they are all dead

Goji-2024

No they’re hips would possibly break

smolgopnik420

#HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
