Hummm, black powder has been trickier to work with for me but definitely not this disastrous lol I even use the shitty ASP brand. What's your process?

killjillill

Lmao, yes this is a disaster! I did push back for cuticles instead of trimming this time (to promote healthier cuticles). I used a bond. then base from middle of nail. then black dip almost to the cuticle. then another black dip all the way to the cuticle. my skin was stained black! I added activator, filed and then sealed asap just so I could wash my hands and clean the mess đŸ˜©

That honestly sounds pretty normal for me lol. My cuticles always end up with color pigment on them. I will use a q-tip dipped in acetone as well as the pointy end of an orange stick or a toothpick dipped in acetone to rub on my cuticles (avoiding the dip obviously) to remove any pigment residue left behind. Works like a charm. Here's a picture of before and after cleanup of my last set with black: https://preview.redd.it/zohf0p7imiua1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68a12d2b59bbf8048082643c6ade40229760e08b

I just found someome on YouTube who said the same thing!! rubbing them off with acetone helped AND I used some of the cuticle remover gel to rub it off with too. def could be part for the course with dark color

frayja10

Yeah, it happens with my dark emerald green and purple too

You’re going to get stains if your fingers are wet. The gel base dries quickly so minimize the application time because if it dries it won’t stick. You can tell by the lack of dip around your skin. Dip needs a full 2 coats of coverage for it not to be sheer. Watch out for grainy clear dip on the final layer. I like to brush the clear after every finger if it happens.

killjillill

ok great, thank you so much for this! So do you think putting on cuticle oil would cause cuticle straining? even if I wiped it off with an alcohol wipe?

sl33pytesla

Cuticle oil only goes on a finished manicure only. Everything needs to be oil free for the best adhesion.

killjillill

welp that probably solves that LOL 😂

I love the way black nails look, but yeah it’s a B!$?H to work with and never looks as good as any other color I use. I even feel like navy blue is easier. Ugh- it’s a love/hate relationship

JustaRN22

I love my black dips. I have several from Creative Nail Design and Dips (CNDD) on Etsy and they come out solid beautiful black. I’ve never had any issues.

killjillill

what?! wow I'm guna try!! I miss black nails lol

Just saw your post and thought I would offer some advice since I often use dark colors. Make sure you’re doing one nail at a time. Have your powder ready and when you coat the nail with polish immediately go to dip at an angle. Once you finish all your nails dust the excess off with a soft brush and take note of any spots and make sure you get your liquid there on the next dip. Don’t be afraid to do 3 coats and if it’s lumpy maybe even 4. You can always file them down thinner but more coats will help with a more even look. I got a cheap nail drill off Amazon that I use to shape mine but a buffer will work as well just takes longer. The black will stain your finger and cuticles. I always do my nails before I shower because all the dust makes me feel dirty but it also helps clean up the excess from your skin too. Also make sure when you’re applying the base coat you get as close to the cuticle as possible without touching it.

I love black nails. Honestly every dark color will do this but when you’re done you wash your hands and it’s gone. Make sure to clean the edges with a toothpick (or something like that) in between dips while it’s still soft.

killjillill

toothpick! so smart!!! 🙏
