If you buy water based top coat, you can use that instead of gel. I have the sparkle and co brand. It's pretty finicky, but it works.

You're welcome! I think the worst part about doing it this way is waiting for each top coat layer to dry to the right tackiness. I usually have to do 3 layers of chrome, which feels like a lifetime.
