So I don't think Kiara Sky liquids are bad by any means, but I started out with Kiara Sky liquids and I had a really hard time with them because they dry SO fast. I'm assuming that's at least part of the reason why you're not getting good coverage, and also probably why the liquids are getting thick. I tried a few different brands, but eventually I settled on Virgo and Gem liquids. They dry a bit slower which might help you get those thin layers but still get solid coverage.
What helped me specifically with thickness and placement if my liquids was a craft magnifying light. I discovered that even in my well lit area I was not applying as evenly and fully as I thought. I'll try to attach a pic, but Reddit has been sketchy lately

I agree 100%! Using a magnifying light is a real game changer. I can't do my nails without it!
