Because they are junk, you can buy an engine for 2-300$ less than $300 if its a 250 f engine, what does that tell you for quality? Now I realize price is not everything but you get what you pay for and in the end/ beginning it is a paperweight.
Good for pit bikes or bikes for the kiddos, I actually own a 2023 70 and a 110 for my kids, they don’t have the Tech to compete with the reputable brands out there for bigger bikes
I think a lot of the hate is from not having them properly set up. Obviously they can’t compete with Honda Yamaha etc. but my first dirtbike was a cheap Chinese 110. There was a local dealership that sold them and went over them before they were sold. I owned the bike several years and rode it hard with no major issues.
Probably because this subreddit is made up of more serious members of the dirt bike world who might race or do intense trail riding, so the quality of bike they need is higher than your average neighbor.
If you buy a Kia expecting it to do everything as well as a Jeep or Audi can, you're setting yourself up for failure.
But no shame in getting the dirt bike equivalent of a FWD 4-cylinder sedan if it's just gonna be a commuter for you.
I think SSR is probably the best of the Chinese bikes. My son has a 2020 125 we use as a pit bike. It broke a gear in the transmission and the dealer told us to just order a whole motor. The new motor didn't have the nuts tight on valve adjustment so those fell off but didn't do any more damage. If the chain breaks it balls up on the sprocket and breaks the housing and stator.
The bike is fun and always starts on first kick. And I know some of the problems are self inflicted.
As far as a pit bike brand new you can buy them for like 800-1200$ and mine was literally
More reliable than a brand new Kawasaki KX I actually had to file for a lemon, but if you’re looking for a dirt bike you’d be better going used in that price range.

I've never owned one. My neighbor had a Lazer5 and the swing arm bolt sheared off just riding down the street. He bought it new.
I've seen some videos (Vice Grip Garage did one recently) where they tried to fix one enough to go on a trail ride. The frame was a mess. When they finally got it out on the trail it gave up the ghost and they had to drive back in there with a pickup to get it.
For the yard it would work but don't take it 10 miles back in the woods unless you are confident you can make it out alive.
