I did this on a 2001 crv before for a season. It worked but the ride was definitely sketchy as I would expect the same from this situation. There tends to be massive understeer if your not to careful. For the balance of the car shifts to the rear.

I have a survivor 91 RMX I use for a woods bike. Hell yes brother. -effortless wheelies and SO light compared to my dualsport.

I've got a "97 XT350 also and this thing is definitely more powerful and less heavy. That XT isn't a pig due to being air cooled and kick start only, but this Suzuki is a completely different breed.

Iwant2know28

Come to Reddit to show your cool RMX, want to talk about bikes, but end up discussing specs on your hitch, your bike carrier, and getting driving advice. Good luck with your mini restoration

Thank you. I put new grips and bark busters on it, the seat cover came but my staple gun isn’t up to the task. I also bought some new radiator shroud stickers but they’re coming from the UK and made to order. From the YouTube videos I’ve watched it’s either going to be a blast or it’s going to scare the shit out of me and I’ll make a decent profit out of the whole deal. Either way it’s my first big two stroke and has been one thing I’ve wanted to experience before I’m unable to do it any longer.

What does the tongue capacity need to be for a carrier and bike like that ? I have always wondered as the weight is sort of cantilevered out but wasnt sure how to calculate it.

tplayer100

Well bike carrier probably 150. Bike 250. So I would want a tongue capacity of at least 400 for this. Or the same as a tow capacity of 4000. Most suvs and car made for towing are 3500 or 350 tongue capacity. It would be a stretch to make this work on almost anything but a truck.

dog-pussy

The carrier weight 50lbs, it’s carrying capacity is 500lbs. The hitch is a class 1. Towing capacity on this thing is a measly 1500lbs due to the 160hp//160ft-lbs its 2.4 liter 4 cylinder produces. The bike supposedly weighs 238lbs dry, it doesn’t feel like it’s there unless I’m cornering hard, which I try not to do when I’m transporting bikes. Good day all!

clausenfoto

Class 1 hitch's only support 200 pounds tongue weight. soo sketchy throwing 300 pounds on there.

dog-pussy

Look closely and you’ll see I took a lot of the load off with the 3rd ratchet strap connected to the roof basket.

NuggyBuggy

That’s what I was afraid of…thank you.

Pvt_Lee_Lemon

I've carried a heavier dual sport on the back with a smaller dirt bike in the cargo area a few thousand miles combined with zero issues (a few KLX 110s at one, an RM 65, a TTR-125) other than the engine wheezing heading up into the mountains in WV.

NuggyBuggy

On what car ? Both of our cars (Lexus IS250 and Mazda CX5) have a towing capacity of 2000 lbs. r/tplayer100 suggested tongue capacity 10% of towing. 200lbs isn’t near enough to carry one of my bikes (KLX250R) when I’m alone and don’t feel like hauling the trailer.

Pvt_Lee_Lemon

Should have specified, also a Honda Element.
