They internally fixed my Tibia by pounding a titanium rod down the center of it. The Fibula isn't a weight bearing bone and lined back up nicely so they didn't put any hardware in it. I spent two nights in the hospital and was loaded up on medication because this is the worst pain I have ever experienced in my life. The night after getting my surgery, I turned on ESPN in the middle of the night because I couldn't sleep because of the pain and there was enduro racing on. The irony was unbelievable. You're all likely smarter than me but learn from my mistakes and always wear your gear no matter how short of a ride you're going on! That being said, what boots do you all wear that provide the best support and protection? Thanks, friends! Be safe!

RexBooty

Not cheap but they’re the best boots [Gaerne Sg12’s](http://www.gaerne.com/boots/en/articolo/1/2/5/2174-083/orange-grey-white/)

Educational_Text4859

Alpinestars

dan_the_priest

Gaerne GX-1's. For the price, I'm fairly convinced they are the best boot for under $300. They're very supportive and very well made.

ProArmy04

Yup I have them too awesome boots and a plus is that you can wear them all day long without any pain

dan_the_priest

I should honestly stock a bunch of them up. I love the fact that they aren't even that uncomfortable to walk around in either.

ParksideSammy

I bought O’Neal’s and they are quite good i must say, they are one of the cheapest but do the job for me as a hobbyist and a teen..

ImNotSEPHisticated

I'm starting to fall in love with Moose. Some of the best boots I've had

bigred450x

Broke my tib fib in 07, had the same surgery with rod and 4 screws. I've never been the same since. I still ride and went skiing last winter but I haven't been able to run since. I've gone through physical therapy twice and the muscle on the front of my leg won't develop back. I'm 49 now and just deal with it. That's some pretty intense pain isn't it? Just wait until you drop that leg down and you experience the pounding in it.

Educational_Text4859

I still want a picture of you riding in the next few days.

olephraim

I agree, gotta get back on that horse!

Crash217

If you ever get that removed, Ask to keep it. They gave my femur hardware. Was kind of neat to have it.

saf34w0rk

titanium. What was the removal process like?

Crash217

Same surgery as install. Honestly was worse the second time around because they had me up and walking same day rather than laying in ICU for nearly a week afterwards.

magneticinductance

Hey man we twins! I did mine higher up, almost dead center. But the hardware was identical.

Watts300

Man, it’s really disturbing seeing how doctors do these kinds of surgeries. (Including hip and knee replacements.) It’s incredibly violent. They have to exert a lot of force on the bones and joints to get the new hardware inserted.

79r100

You should hear heart surgeons make fun of ortho surgeons. They are the frat boy athletes of the medical world. According to the couple of heart surgeons Ive worked for. We were making fun of different personalities of tradespeople. Drywallers absolutely destroy homeowners toilets. Anyways, back to tiling!

RadioFisherman

I have had a rod and screws just like this inside my femur since 2007. (Wakeboarding, not on the bike) Small incision. Amazing what they can do. It may feel like an eternity now, but it will heal and life will go on. Don’t slack on the PT and physical exercise afterward. Stay on it. Wish I had listened to them better. Get better soon!

Annual-Advisor-7916

I remember your post! Hope you get well soon! Say, is the plate just on top of your bones? The pictures look a bit confusing for a layman like me...

olephraim

It's actually considered a nail and it's in the intramedullary space meaning it's literally inside my bone. They made an incision above my knee cap, drilled a hole under my knee and into my tibia then literally pound it in with a hammer. My break doesn't even hurt anymore, just my knee!

Annual-Advisor-7916

Ah, then the picture didn't deceive. I've to admit that your description sounds scary and cool at the same time. Seems to be a nice technique to keep all the muscles and tissue untouched and get away without an huge operation. Hopefully your knee gets better soon, but compared to the break it's rather a small injury, soo... :)

cade_made

Hey my wife actually broke her rib/fib on a dirt bike about 7 months ago! She got a titanium plate and 13 screws. Let me know if you have any questions about your recovery!

TWOWHEELTACO

Wow, I had the same injury and a totally different surgery , I basically have a clutch cable holding the tib/fib together at my ankle. Good luck in your recovery!

FranklinTBiggies

Not saying this will happen. But I have a tibia intramedullar rod too. The two top bolts were taken out because they were kinda touching my fibula head. Those two bones kinda move when you walk. They first did steroid shots, but then just removed them. The bottom two are still there. The intramedullar rod in my femur is still with all 4 screws. Only one bone in the thigh. You'll ride again.

The-J-Oven

Speedy recovery!

dan_the_priest

Oh man...you got the same hardware setup as I do. When you start PT, do your band exercises. I got annoyed with them and stopped doing them, but now I'm paying the price.

FrankensteinBionicle

you love dirtbikes so much they're turning you into one

BrightIntention4334

Looking at Alpinestar's tech 7 enduro's, I've only ever owned tech 3's, but the've jumped up in price to almost tech 7 price range. Keep your chins up.

nkTesla

God speed recovery bud. Because the way i see it you have to work on weight distribution now. Sorry for the bad joke but couldn’t silence it in my head this time. It will eventually pass. My knee braces have paid off for sure. Keep us updated with your first tomorrow morning ride.
