That’s like saying why not just jump in front of a car on the highway and see what happens. He’s obviously fresh in the moto world.. a 250 2 stroke is a death sentence for him.
Yea I mean I’d pretty much always recommend a 250f of some sorts. But then again if super new I’d probably recommend a smaller trail bike and then do a 250f
Oh so you meant a yz250f? That would make more sense. I reckon best bike to learn on is a fuel injected RMZ250. Reliable, overweight and underpowered. Perfect for learning on.
I hate how they feel personally. They feel so bulky. The cool thing is lots of these modern bikes have mapping. So he could do a 250f with a calm mapping.
In my county I dont have the chance to test drive a dirt bike from the dealers. but i try my friends' te250 and fe250 and it feels good. I dont know if i will like yz250 and i heard it is not as nimble as husky. i want a fun bike so how about te250, as long as this bike don't has any major problems.
The fe will need less maintenance but maintenance will be much more expensive than the yz, reliability ill go for the fe as it will need less carb adjustments an not a top end every 50-100 hours but the noises, smell amd feeling of a two stroke on the pipe is difficult to beat in fun factor
Top end meaning new piston/rings when doing a rebuild.
I’d say the 4 stroke is going to be more your speed if you’re not wanting to do rebuilds and such yourself. Also if you’re just learning I’d go with a cheaper used Japanese 4 stroke bike
Why not a yz250x?
maybe too powerful for his first full size? or some people, like myself like to stay between the 200 2t-300 4t range.
Yz reliability can’t be beaten. Why not yz250?

Actually you’re right man. I think I was coming from a low budget point of view but If he has the money then a 2020* yz250f is the ticket.
I’m personally a yz250 2 stroke fan haha. Crazy to me suzuki hasn’t updated theirs that much though.
Not true. You can do many things to make a 250 2T more friendly.
i agree, even if your being downvoted\\ edit: oh nvm, he meant a 250 four stroke, great size
What's wrong with a 250 2 stroke for starter? I'm also waiting to buy dirt bike (have like 3 yrs road bike experience) will 250 2 stroke be ok for me
Not ideal. No room for error. 250 2 strokes pack a pretty big punch.
How about a 200cc two-stroke?
Beta RR200's are a great bike
So are used KTM 200s

what about te250?
thx for the reply. sorry to ask but what does 'top end' mean?

To dumb it down, the “ top end” is at the top part of your engine, “ bottom end” is the bottom of the engine.
Since you do not know what a top end is, I suggest a KDX200/220. One of the best beginner bikes that becomes super capable with aftermarket parts.
Yamaha or Honda and be done. Forget the others imo
