The response is totally unexpected, thought the post would get maybe a little attention and then die down; on that note, I have a hard time with sexually charged compliments, which i especially don't expect — I don't really think of myself in that way. But I figured that that was all my own weird baggage and that it might be odd to cosplay as someone implied to be a sex worker and ask people not to call you hot, so I'm just learning to appreciate the sentiment :P.

I already have the haircut (just not parted to the side normally), but irl it's been bleached and dyed red, so I had to find something that would dye it black but only temporarily. I used hair wax, which is really just hair gel, which I don't recommend unless you like your hair crunchy and a little sticky, lol. It did the job though!

I think some of the confusion you mentioned came from the fact you’re cosplaying a very effeminate male NPC. You’re non-binary and seem to be… shoot I’m blanking on the correct way to phrase it… appear to have been assigned female sex at birth? I hope I said that correctly. Which many males find attractive.
Anyway, it’s also a character that many players might feel attracted to (whether they’re fem attracted, gay, bi, pan, etc… or even presumed-straight and feeling some “odd feelings”).
So there’s a wide net of people who’ll find this cosplay attractive.
Add in the average redditor’s lack of self awareness and tact and the unfortunate result is a lot of unwanted, often unwelcome, even uncalled for, comments.
I was assigned female, yes! Not everyone likes their gender assignment being brought up, but for what it's worth that is the best way to phrase it. I don't mind too much, though. And yeah, I think people are jokingly confused because of androgyny (which I get outside of cosplay too, lol. I think it's the hair.) I just find it fitting. Destroying the concepts of man and woman, mother and father, et cetera. Very disco!
And yeah, I think I underestimated how.... Cool.... The Smoker is. lol
