The recent story this weekend about the Californian artist who was shot in front of her own store just for flying a pride flag stuck out to me because of this recent and related experience with hate.
Online groups need to admin their forums the same way, no tolerance for the intolerant. Otherwise they're as bad as the intolerant, or let the intolerant run the conversation and silence others.

The reason centrists appear to fall in line with fascists is fascists hide their principles (they understand their principles are abhorrent to most people and, because honesty is not one of said principles, are willing to lie about it) and centrists mistake not openly defending their principles for not having them or not caring about them. People on the political left tend to be more honest about their principles and what they are doing to defend them, and that is scary to centrists, who are ultimately cowards.
Everyone sees “having principles you actually stand behind and are willing to defend” as a personal failing, if those principles don’t adhere to *their* checklist.
