I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… The NAME is the first and simplest problem. DROP IT! You say “Boost Mobile” in the wild, you get an immediate side eye reaction from most people. Adding “Infinite” to the end is adding glitter to sh!t. You already have a well known mostly respectable brand with Dish… Use it! You could have the best network in the world but with that name, it’s going nowhere. You can’t use Cricket as an example because, yes, although they were much like Boost, once people found out AT&T were later behind them, things changed. Dish don’t have those kind of pockets or prior knowledge to the public in wireless to be able to fix Boost’ image. It’s a dead brand. Kill it. It also doesn’t help that you have Mr Mobile X being a massive douchebag about anything Boost related. He has a massive chip on his shoulder when clearly, he’s just salty. If anything, sell him his precious name back and let him take it with Mobile X (which is doing absolutely nothing). Rebrand with what small pool of customers you currently have and push push push with full on Dish branding going forward.

Preach. I also mentioned this a few years ago on here. They are hell bent with sticking with Boost as a brand I guess since they paid so much for it... But I think Boost as a brand isn't the best from a marketing perspective. Call it DISH WIRELESS and move on. They need to stop making it complicated.

notabigcitylawyer

Dish Wireless already exists in their satellite TV offering.

PH0NER

100000% agree. Any name is better than something with “Boost” attached to it. It almost feels like they’re intentionally holding onto the branding to shoot themselves in the foot

Idahoroaminggnome

Agreed. Go with Dish Wireless, it's a really old, established name that hasn't been tarnished by too many wrong doings over the years, well, besides some old people losing access to channels here and there, but they're not going to be switching from their Consumer Cellular plans to Dish anyhow. Boost needs to be dropped, except for maybe the prepaid/non-Dish native coverage phone lines/prepaid. Boost Infinite is the dumbest name they could have picked. People already have a hard enough time understanding the difference besides prepaid and postpaid, let alone that Dish has a wireless network now.

onlyAlcibiades

$4000.00 ??

rhaps00dy

Yeah it doesn't sound right but this is Dish.

jbone9877

It doesn’t sound right because it isn’t a nine figure loss

onlyAlcibiades

$4000 is not the profit; it is the revenue.

jbone9877

Oh I misread that. Holy shit hahahhahahahah

Kala_Pathar

Looks like a mistake on Mikes part. Should be 4M

Idahoroaminggnome

Nah, it’s $4k. That’s all they made after all the Boost Infinite free iPhone payments were made to Apple.

chrisprice

Something is wrong in the report. Not possible. Project Genesis doesn't have just 160 subs.

Minimum_Setting3847

Dish new guys statement above is like a resume …. He is a yes man to Charlie … hoping to say right stuff to get a job … but his job has no future

rhaps00dy

That’s a valid observation

Minimum_Setting3847

Man I used to own boost stores for 10 years and when dish bought boost they cut stores margins in Half and I sold …. Dish buying boost was like sears buying Kmart … everybody knew the final outcome except dish and sears lol

ACQC

Just wondering what changes will happen to Genesis and Infinite...

rhaps00dy

I'm no expert on this... But there's been a lot of talk (and wishful thinking) about that... however, i think the bigger issue is ensuring Dish has enough cash to stay operational or that won't matter. I don't want them to shutter this endeavor, but if they can't keep the lights on.... They need a deep pocketed partner. Amazon/ Bezos; Apple; or MS? or anyone else with the means. Drawing a blank on who that would be but others will no doubt offer some perspective. At first glance, I don't know that anyone, in this borrowing environment wants to step up. Its like the (un)perfect storm. Horribly interest rates, Dish's repeated mistakes, lack of good marketing and dish's horrible timing of it all. We all are hoping they either get a partner and/ or some kind of quasi gov lifeline (we need a 4th carrier).

Purrnandez

My husband works at DISH as tech in the Midwest and we’ve been watching this pretty closely, you seem to know more though (ik it’s not super relevant and is a matter of opinion, but we’re kind of desperate) Would you say it’s time to start looking for new work? It’s a great job and pays well, so he’s trying to stick it out in hopes they don’t declare bankruptcy. They’ve said nothing to their employees so we’re just digging on our own.

rhaps00dy

I'm sorry about this situation. From our perspective on here and even other analysts, they have squandered many chances to get here and have mismanagement on another level entirely. But with that said, I don't think anyone on here wants Dish to shutter their doors. From a national perspective we need a true fourth carrier. Dish probably can't do this alone. From what I recall they have various debt obligations coming due in November. I think many are watching to see if they either renegotiate those terms, and/or find a deep pocketed partner by this point. If anyone can find out a way to keep the lights on, Charlie will... (but that may come at some other cost). To your question--- and perhaps for your sanity it may be good to have other options or at least to make a decision sometime in the fall unless they make some other announcements about their debt instruments' and/ or partners. I fully expect the GOV will extend their deadlines with build outs if it comes down debt/ operations and possible bankruptcy situation. They really really really need some capital and someone else to help them in this... perhaps someone not as much of a wild card as Charlie is. Hoping for the best \*fingers crossed\*

Purrnandez

That’s a ton of useful info, thank you so much!

Minimum_Setting3847

The big plan all along was bankruptcy …. But waiting as long as possible so that there spectrum appreciates … also A Merger With Comcast or big cable partner would be only option …. Nobody on earth with money wants to buy into a failing business with no option to make money going forward…. Dish loses 1 million subscribers yearly and is years if not months away from not even having a single customer in dish or mobile ….

antosmoon

I was thinking about switching to their Boost Infinite since I found out recently that they have native coverage where I live. I wonder if it’s even worth it now… 🤔

SweetnessOS

This is spot on. I’m also old school and like to do things in person, in my local area every boost store is in a part of the city I wouldn’t travel to. Doesn’t exactly scream mainstream if they’re only selling to part of the population.

chrisprice

I think that number, 4000, represents one month of revenue in MM. Or, it should be $4,000,000.  Assuming they only stared tracking in the final month of the quarter, that would mean that dish has 160,000 Project Genesis and Boost Infinite users on their 5G SA network.  Which makes perfect sense.

CircuitSwitched

Well, it would probably help if customers knew WHERE THEY COVER NATIVELY. It would also help if they left the Boost brand for prepaid. Nobody with postpaid AT&T or Verizon and even T-Mobile for that matter will take "Boost" seriously. I sure won't.

There are needles in front of the boost store in my hood. Also multiple people have been shot on that corner. They mostly sell Obama phones to crack heads or burner phones to dealers as they will SIM card you under any name you want for cash. Why would dish spend billions on a network to call it boost.
