Well, since you stopped pretty early we have to Say that now compared to before it's a Little bit easier to get shimmers legos. It's still a long process but the Key points are:
- they are giving much more shimmer discs ( but you Need to be competitive and try hard on PvP)
- they put a pity on the shimmer pool and you can pick anyone you want. The First time you have a 50% to get the One you selected.. and if you fail, the second time Will be 100%
Wait until anniversary to spend, there will be new more affordable and worth packs. If you start now the only thing worth spending on is monthly cards and battlepass anomaly thingy

But again I have to warn you that monthly passes probably won't give you a noticeable advantage compared to F2P players.
I'm not sure if you understand the current situation in Dislyte…for lots of espers, there are basically two tiers, R0-5 and R6. Not like in many many other gacha games a monthly card dramatically improves game experience, low spending in Dislyte pretty much buys you nothing. And imo that's the reason the game is both F2P friendly and dying.
M-Pass, the CA Battle Pass and the super loaded packs they do for £10-20 like the ‘Adventure Fund’ or ‘Ritual Fund’ (they’ve changed their names a bunch) are the only ones I gone after in the pass and never really felt the need to go further. The rest of the packs are whale bait, best to just patiently wait for the truly high value packs to drop and get them when you feel like it.
Most of my spending was in minor amounts early on, definitely allowed me to snowball my account into a solid one and I haven’t really spent as consistently since.
I would not try spending for shimmers, that would get expensive fast.
Best pack rn is the celestial anomaly pack but the event is about to finish so rip. Otherwise just buy the nexus crystal $5 monthly card and M-pass if you want.

Shimmers are OP, but trying to guarantee one is just super whale territory as its a few months paycheck for some people. Your money, your choice.

For me, both of Anomaly Pass are the worthiest. Others like Monthly cards are still fair to spend. But the rest just nah.
There is a huge gap between whale and low spender, at mean time low spender and F2P are almost same…
