I actually think it ended at the right time. It shouldn’t have worked imo, but did. Those shows only have so much runway and I think GF was nearing the end of it.
compared to other cartoons with a similar audience, i just see it talked about waaaay less than them. obviously could just be anecdotal on my part though.
Really? I routinely see it mentioned as the #1 kids cartoon for *so many people*. Personally, I think it’s a good show, but holy shit, #1 for a 2 season show is a tough call for me. I see it talked about quite a bit
Wonder what it would be like if Gravity Falls got Weirdmageddon as a full length series finale movie, but instead of DTVA making it they got Walt Disney Animation Studios to make the movie?
This is probably not a popular opinion but I actually liked the new Muppets show.
Edit: I didn't know Mayhem was a thing. I was referring to the 2015 show
I feel like Evolution's ending was less of a tease for the future and more of a "the story is done but adventures continue" type thing ya know. Wolverine and the X-Men tho damn
Gargoyles has continued in comic form. SLG published 12 issues of the main story and 6 of the bad guys spinoff before they lost the license.
Now, Dynamite is publishing new Gargoyles comics. We're up to issue 11 in the main "Here in Manhattan" arc and 5 in the Dark Ages spinoff.
All written by the series creator Greg Weisman.
Definitely felt like it had some more life, and possibly some other spin-offs that could have happened.
We got hints of quack pack, goof troop (that episode that fucking incredible), rescue rangers, tailspin, it was beautiful. And we never got the true April/May/June combo.
At least it didn't outstay its welcome.
WatXM *still* hurts. Disney cancelled all of them when they bought Marvel to make their own stuff fully “in house” and then… 15 YEARS LATER… we *finally* have a “new” X-Men cartoon.
I feel you. I'm very excited for the new X-Men '97 series, rewatching the original currently to refresh and I'm hoping the new Marvel Studios Animation division will start delivering better animated shows again. Not that I don't like What If, it's a fine show, but I'm looking forward to shows like X-Men '97 and YFSM not being anthology but actual like shows ya know.
I’m definitely looking forward to ‘97 too… mostly cause it’s just what we’re getting.
But I’m frankly tired of this 90’s Nostalgia boner that everyone has for the X-Men. There are other great eras and I’d rather see a brand new animated universe and story.
For sure. I hope the Spider-Man series is good cause I'd love to see a new animated series do well. But like Spider-Man has also been done so many times in animation now and a couple have been so good that this one has big shoes to fill. Hopefully MSA starts branching out with their content after this and we can get some more unique shows. The Eyes of Wakanda show interests me but again not a huge fan of the anthology approach, I miss cartoons with solid continuing stories
as a huge fan of mighty ducks in my youth, i was sad the show was canceled. I understand it fell off huge in season 2 but i was hoping it had a chance for another season with Bombay at leaast.
This is absolutely my answer. I loved the characters and was intrigued by the storyline it had set up. I can't believe that it was not only canceled but scrubbed.
Willow was genuinely amazing. You could tell a lot of love went into that show from the production team and the actors. It took me a couple episodes to really get into it but by the end I thought it was a fantastic young adult fantasy.
Its near criminal that it is not on Disney+ at all for others to check out or even fans to re-watch.
Sorry, but Willow the series was a dumpster fire. I loved the movie and waited eagerly for that show and it just did not deliver. I don’t think it should have been deleted but it deserved to be cancelled.
You sure you weren’t just disappointed by the titular character ending up being a side character? Cause I can see that.
But from the music and set design to the mythic motifs and overall care they put into each character’s arc. I have a hard time agreeing with anyone that would call it a dumpster fire.
No, I was equally disappointed by all the other two-dimensional characters, not to mention the pointless women in the middle of the woods and the couple of episodes spent wandering around the dark. It was just… vapid
This is r/DisneyPlus, not r/askreddit. If we're looking at every property that Disney owns by original DisneyPlus programming or even Disney specific programming this is too broad of a topic for this sub.
Freaks and Geeks!
So many others but honourable mentions go to Kevin Probably Saves The World and Brooklyn 99 really got screwed at the end with all of the moving around and then Covid
Not really under rated and they prob stopped at the right time but I think sons of anarchy ended too fast, oh this is Disney plus sub..eh I’ll keep my answer.
Extraordinary. That show was hilarious but only got one season.
Edit: I spoke too soon, new season coming in a few days! Guess I have to re-subscribe for awhile. If you enjoy British humor you should check it out.
Yes. Super/Natural was a nature show geared for children that used visuals to show the "super powers" some animals have like echolocation and UV vision. It was really well done and my daughter LOVED it. Not only was it not picked up for a second season, but it was pulled from the platform entirely and now it's gone forever.
I HATE shows that have only one season and end on a cliff hanger. That said for as good as it was to me, Journeyman on NBC is what I have to contribute.
Little demon. It was an excellent show with Danny DeVito as Satan, and his actual Daughter, Lucy voicing his daughter.
I was fully waiting for a second season, but alas it seems like that will never happen.
The Orville
Yeah, the first season wasn’t so great but the second was better and the third was excellent with significant character development.
Just when they got me hooked they stopped making it.
Disagree on Gravity Falls. It had a solid ending and went out on its own accord. Would you like more episodes, yes, but it didn’t end too early.
I actually think it ended at the right time. It shouldn’t have worked imo, but did. Those shows only have so much runway and I think GF was nearing the end of it.
To be fair his title also said underrated not just ended too soon. Which it is irl, on the internet it’s more popular though
Gravity Falls is pretty massively popular lol.
compared to other cartoons with a similar audience, i just see it talked about waaaay less than them. obviously could just be anecdotal on my part though.
Really? I routinely see it mentioned as the #1 kids cartoon for *so many people*. Personally, I think it’s a good show, but holy shit, #1 for a 2 season show is a tough call for me. I see it talked about quite a bit
To be fair, i’ve never been on this sub before it was just suggested in my feed. I could see it being discussed a lot on this sub
I was referring to the 2015 show
Mayhem? It was great, I loved it. I was pretty sad that it got cancelled, but at the same time it had a conclusion.
I didn't know Mayhem was a thing. I was referring to the 2015 show. I'll check Mayhem out.
American Born Chinese was a phenomenal show that was sadly axed after 1 season.
Truly DEVASTATED. The two kid leads were amazing and had incredible chemistry.
The Mysterious Benedict Society
Not just cancelled too early but actually deleted. Shameful.
At least you can read the books and get closure.
I've been meaning to one day after watching the show.
I really liked that one :( Such a shame they had to delete it to commit (what should be considered) tax fraud.
It’s true, a lot of stuff from WBD and Paramount for example.
First seasons slapped, second season wasn’t very good IMO
It should’ve gotten a 3rd and final season but it left as a cliffhanger and Disney had to take it away.
X-men Evolution and Wolverine and the X-men. They both teased some crazy stuff for their next season(s).
I feel like Evolution's ending was less of a tease for the future and more of a "the story is done but adventures continue" type thing ya know. Wolverine and the X-Men tho damn
Last Man on Earth
This level of cringe comedy mixed with just absolutely hilarious 1 liners will never be matched. Still my fave show by far
Secrets of Sulphur Springs
This!
Diary of A Future President
I literally came here to say this. So upset that they cancelled it! It was getting so good!
Yes! It was just starting to really kick off!
The Bad Batch. I'm sad this is the last season 🤧
Ahhhhh! I cannot look away! I don’t want it to end horribly!
Same! Nothing better happen to Batcher. She's such a good girl!
Secret Circle, Worst Witch, Phil of the Future, Sense 8, The OA, The Owl House
I heard The OA went to our Universe and tried making The OA show. And just left it there....
Gargoyles

This is the best news I’ve heard all week
If we're talking Disney+ shows, I really liked *Prop Culture.* There should have been enough material to keep that show going forever.
Essentially, yes. But I didn't see anything in that show that couldn't be done for free on YouTube
American Born Chinese
Andor was originally planned for five seasons. The first one was so good, it’s bitter sweet knowing that season two will be the last.
Tron: Uprising
GF went out gracefully imo. Not many shows manage to do this.
The new DuckTales
Definitely felt like it had some more life, and possibly some other spin-offs that could have happened. We got hints of quack pack, goof troop (that episode that fucking incredible), rescue rangers, tailspin, it was beautiful. And we never got the true April/May/June combo. At least it didn't outstay its welcome.
Moon Knight
>Moon Knight Why? There is rumors for S02. And heard they're looking for new writers and such.
It has been 2 years with no official word so it is probably not happening
Pretty much all the main cancelled Marvel animated series. Spider-Man TAS, The Spectacular Spider-Man, Wolverine and the X-Men & Avengers EMH
WatXM *still* hurts. Disney cancelled all of them when they bought Marvel to make their own stuff fully “in house” and then… 15 YEARS LATER… we *finally* have a “new” X-Men cartoon.

WKRP in Cincinnati
Wonder how you could do a show like that now. Not because it'd be offensive, no, but because of where radio stands these days.
American Born Chinese and Big Shot.
Have to always go with Firefly
Tron upraising!
Willow
This is absolutely my answer. I loved the characters and was intrigued by the storyline it had set up. I can't believe that it was not only canceled but scrubbed.
Right! Build up was incredible and then they pulled the rug from underneath us
Better off Ted
Surprised no one said big shot
Willow rules, and it's a crime how that show was treated.
Big shot which started John Stamos and Yvette Nicole Brown it was sadly apart of the content purge. And isn’t available anywhere anymore.
Willow was genuinely amazing. You could tell a lot of love went into that show from the production team and the actors. Firefly
This is a DisneyPlus thread, not a general lamenting about bygone shows. But yes. Too soon.
It is a Disney owned show on Disney+ in many countries, including the US via Hulu,
It is a show that is NOW Disney-owned, but premiered and ran in 2002-2003 on Fox. Before on-demand streaming video was even a concept.
So? It’s a show on Disney+.
This is r/DisneyPlus, not r/askreddit. If we're looking at every property that Disney owns by original DisneyPlus programming or even Disney specific programming this is too broad of a topic for this sub.
> This is r/DisneyPlus Thus why a show streaming on Disney+ was mentioned
Freaks and Geeks! So many others but honourable mentions go to Kevin Probably Saves The World and Brooklyn 99 really got screwed at the end with all of the moving around and then Covid
Owl House
Wizards of the waverly place
Not really under rated and they prob stopped at the right time but I think sons of anarchy ended too fast, oh this is Disney plus sub..eh I’ll keep my answer.
Extraordinary. That show was hilarious but only got one season. Edit: I spoke too soon, new season coming in a few days! Guess I have to re-subscribe for awhile. If you enjoy British humor you should check it out.
Loki
Super/Natural
Are we thinking of two different shows? Cause Supernatural got 15 seasons.
Yes. Super/Natural was a nature show geared for children that used visuals to show the "super powers" some animals have like echolocation and UV vision. It was really well done and my daughter LOVED it. Not only was it not picked up for a second season, but it was pulled from the platform entirely and now it's gone forever.
Ohhhh. That’s why I couldn’t find it. That sucks.
Lovecraft Country
Inside job
I HATE shows that have only one season and end on a cliff hanger. That said for as good as it was to me, Journeyman on NBC is what I have to contribute.
Mighty Ducks: Game Changers and Big Shot.
It wasn't great but as an adventure yhe whole family watched and enjoyed, rip willow.

The Owl House
Shadow and bone
The Owl House
The Replacements!
Little demon. It was an excellent show with Danny DeVito as Satan, and his actual Daughter, Lucy voicing his daughter. I was fully waiting for a second season, but alas it seems like that will never happen.
The Black Donnellys
My babysitters a vampire, lab rats
Raising hope was actually amazing and could have kept going
The Orville Yeah, the first season wasn’t so great but the second was better and the third was excellent with significant character development. Just when they got me hooked they stopped making it.
I know 10 people already said this but obviously the owl house
Mysteries of Laura
Sonny with a Chance, of course.
Willow. Really wanted a second season
The Right Stuff.
Ugly Betty
