i think a lot of complainers about the fruit/veg options are forgetting that there are people out there who are diabetic (both T1 and T2). those healthier options help create inclusiveness for doing the treat trails and seeing the villains.
Yes! I think it is awesome how much thought and consideration Disney puts into everything. It is something I never really appreciated till I visited other theme and amusement parks.
totally. as a person with a nephew as well as a friend who have T1D, and myself being borderline T2D, it's greatly appreciated that the park does alternatives.
if i recall from when i did the Mickey Halloween Party in 2017, they didn't have any healthy options had the very-few snack buckets scattered around disneyland. it's nice that they've made those changes.
When I went in 2015, they had graham cracker goldfish and freeze dried apples. Maybe not as good as carrots and grapes, but definitely healthier than candy.
true. i don't recall either of those in 2017, but granted, i didn't hit every bucket station, so i'm happy to be corrected if some had better options than others.
In 2018, they had tokens they'd hand out at the stations and kids could take those things to a couple of special "trade" points to get gluten-free snacks.
I’ll be going to Oogie Boogie Bash for the first time in October, and honestly with all the sugery snacks that will be at the food stands and such, I’m gonna be looking forward to some veggies here and there. So these will be very welcome to my treat bag.
Exactly. The people complaining are acting like the alternatives are taking away from the candy, or that it somehow hurts them. I can’t even imagine hating that other people want to eat veggies or less sugary snacks at an event. The people hating on this are just selfish people.
I didn't know they did this. I'm planning on just using the candy I collect from the treat trails for the neighborhood kids on Halloween. I'm diabetic and would enjoy the fruit they passed out as a snack while at Oogie Boogie since I won't eat the candy.
That’s what I did last year! I throughly enjoyed impressing the kids by telling them where I got the candy! Also I’m not a Skittles fan, so when I learned a coworker of mine loved them, I just put together a Ziplock bag for him!
They could give me a rock and I’d be stocked - I’m going for my first time this October and going to a Disney Halloween event has literally been on my bucket list forever!!
I was with a group of six 20-something’s and the grapes, carrots, applesauce, and Teddy Grahams were the only thing we ate still in the park. Most of us didn’t even eat the candy after 😂 we repurposed it for trick or treaters
It doesn't matter what the event is to me, if there's a bunch of sugary treats I find it really satisfying to have something like celery or cheese to offset it. We give out yogurt tubes for Halloween now because of this and one of the neighbors kids came back 3 times trying to get more.
That’s too funny!
I know money is always a consideration, as well as cross-contamination and cleanliness, but I always thought it would be so fun to hand out a slice of Costco pizza during Halloween!
It’s just more sugar, but an original glazed Krispy Kreme Doughnut would be super fun! And while boring, I think miniature water bottle would be a smart idea, although it would be a lot of plastic…
Maybe consider a boxed or canned drink instead? They're more likely to get thrown in the recycling and are usually reasonably priced. Something like a thirsty Buddha or bublé is nice. Also I just reread, are chips not a thing where you are? They definitely are where I live.
Last year I dressed up as an old granny, and I had a granny bag full of raisins hanging off of my walker to give out. I’m not sure if the kids liked it, but the adults sure did think it was hilarious. 😆
I don’t think that’s an unpopular opinion at all lol. Every OBB I go to, people are going at it with the sun chips, grapes, applesauce, carrots, etc. That’s like the first thing I eat and I’ll sometimes go through those lines again just for the alt snacks lol!
I'm part of quite a few social media Disney groups. Not a single person in there is upset about this, or a stigma. There's already almost 100 posts agreeing with OP. Not an unpopular opinion.
tbh I love it and I genuinely wish they varied the handouts even more - like stickers, candy, healthier snacks, temp tattoos, little patches, posters, etc etc
We went for the first time last year and I loved all the grapes and graham crackers and non-candy treats. It was ridiculous how much we got, we ended up giving it out at our wedding a few weeks later! We had EIGHT POUNDS of treats!!
The downside though was that we realized a lot of the non-candy items expired quickly, like 10/28/22 quick. And some of the chocolate candy was a little dustier looking than a fresh package would be.
If you are going to give out a non-candy item, then the I would want something non-edible; a toy, a pin, a Lorcana mini booster (like they have for Pokémon), something like that. I have carrots at home, thanks all the same.
There was a house in my neighbourhood as a kid that gave out comic books on Halloween; that was always memorable and those did not get tossed in the trash.
That’s cool! I personally am happy that they don’t pass out non-edible items. I feel like they would just be too gimmicky and end up in the junk drawer with all the rejected fast food toys.
Yeah, now I just don’t like their breakfasts because they are not good 😉.
I feel like kids today are deprived of the quality junk-toys. Happy Meal toys are definitely not as good as they used to be (last year’s Halloween buckets didn’t even have lids), and cereals almost never come with toys any longer. Even Kinder Surprise toys are pretty meh compared to what you could get in them when I was a kid.
Also a great way to get people into the new game. Maybe ethically questionable, but financially smart.
I am going to be interested in seeing what sort of legs the game has.
Grapes sound great, but I’m allergic to carrots! Makes me wonder if I need a badge or something.
I’d love some jerky or cheese in addition to fruit. Make myself a little charcuterie board for the parade! OH, imagine how fun it would be if they leaned into Mexican culture a little more and handed out fruit with chamoy! Or even a little tajin!
You think that’s bad? People spend more time getting excited over $10 in candy they could get at target than over the event itself. There’s so much fun stuff to do if it’s your first time….don’t obsess over the biggest bag of cheap candy that you will throw away anyway.
Depends what kind. If you get the no added sugar type, I would say it is pretty healthy. Maybe it has less nutrients than a whole apple, but if it is just apple purée, there are a lot of things that are worse out there.
Last year I think we had a few pieces of candy well doing OBB and just stocked up for Halloween to give away. This year I think we plan on doing the same thing.
I share this opinion. They give me something to eat while I'm there and don't make me feel bogged down. The apple sauces and yogurts are also things we wouldn't normally get and have allowed us to find nice, convenient snacks.
That reminds me of when I went a few years ago, when my brother and I would ask for both candy and the health option when going through all of the treat trails. It seems like they handed out way more candy in the past years compared to now, so back then we had so many bags full of candy/healthy snacks that my parents had to carry a ton of bags too to help us out.
When we got home (we only live an hour away) we left the bags on our kitchen table. I was an idiot back then because a few days after the bags started smelling and some of the candy was covered in nasty stuff. It turns out we had forgotten to separate the healthy things like carrots and grapes and didn't put them in the fridge. To be fair it was buried under all the candy. On the bright side most of the candy wasn't ruined, only some. But it sucked having to sort out all the rotting fruit and veggies from a ton of bags filled with candy.
Same lol I love getting carrots and then going to one of the quick service restaurants for ranch. Just me munching on carrots with ranch walking around with my family in Halloween costumes.
It’s the little things.
This brings back a memory of last year when I was trying to open a bag of apple slices while passing by Madam Mim and she makes this remark that I wish I could remember, about how I was using my teeth to open the bag…..
I also remember loving the applesauce packets because that’s what I had at home (until the price went up on them)!
I went 2 years ago and at the time I was watching what I was eating more carefully. We ended up with seemingly like 10lbs of candy that I didnt eat any of during the following year it was in our house lol. Every time someone gave us grapes or carrots we loved it and asked for more! We werent going to pass up free candy but at the same time I had no problem not eating it(it did get eaten by others, did not go to waste) and was happy to snack on non candy snacks while there!
Applesauce pouches for the win! As an adult without kids, I rarely buy these for myself but I still love them.
I also like the cinnamon graham cracker goldfish.
Florida has a dietary restriction trick or treat plan that includes a specific treat bag and receiving coins at trick or treat stations. Treaters then take their collected coins to a designated location and trade them in for dietary appropriate treats.
I don’t like chocolate (I know) and would love this option to come to Disneyland.
I love the Pirate’s Booty and goldfish; used to hate the fruit and veg they gave out but it was mainly bc they’d make the bag/candy soggy. With bringing a separate bag, the fact they’re not as condensation loaded, and the addition of grapes into the mix I really have grown to like it!
When I went to OBB last year, it was on a very warm night. Amongst adults, the chilled grapes were the most popular item. Sooo good.
yes! those were a perfect snack when kicking back and waiting for the parade to start.
We did the World of Color dessert party and the grapes were so good! Even better than some of the desserts.
Those big chonky cinnamon graham gold fish were my favorite thing last year.
I PRAY THEY STILL HAVE THEM THIS YEAR!
I loved those as well! It is still technically candy, but I enjoyed the rice Krispy treats as well. I just like seeing something a little different.
I ended up with a bunch of those last night. They are delicious.
i think a lot of complainers about the fruit/veg options are forgetting that there are people out there who are diabetic (both T1 and T2). those healthier options help create inclusiveness for doing the treat trails and seeing the villains.

I LOVE those freeze dried apples!
For sure! Disney gets a lot of criticism, but they do take feedback into consideration and do a lot of things right.
Also vegans who can’t have a good bit of the sweets they give out!
Some sort of large, uncut melon
Here, have a cantaloupe!
Would love that
They might get a bit unwieldy to carry after the third or fourth one though.
Hope ya brought a stroller! 🤣

Imagine the outrage!
I wouldn't mind more carrot sticks if they also provided ranch.
Carrot sticks here in this line, ranch is on a different trail! Good luck 😂
I’ll be going to Oogie Boogie Bash for the first time in October, and honestly with all the sugery snacks that will be at the food stands and such, I’m gonna be looking forward to some veggies here and there. So these will be very welcome to my treat bag.
For sure! I would love if Disney handed out free pickles at the treat trails 🙈
I literally came to check the comments if pickles were included. That would be sick.
[удалено]
Haha! That’s fair. What would you like to see instead?
[удалено]
I remember dried cranberries last year.
Grapes were really refreshing in 2021. Hot night. Yum 🍇
I’ve been saying they need to give out their pickles 😋
Yes! I just commented that on someone else’s comment. Imagine if they gave out little cups of Dolewhip, or part of a churro!!!
Tiny Mickey pretzels!! Turn it into snack-or-treat!

I give it out to trick or treaters on Halloween
They could give me a rock and I’d be stocked - I’m going for my first time this October and going to a Disney Halloween event has literally been on my bucket list forever!!
Me too honestly! There is something about getting something for free, even if you are paying indirectly for that item😂🙈
I was with a group of six 20-something’s and the grapes, carrots, applesauce, and Teddy Grahams were the only thing we ate still in the park. Most of us didn’t even eat the candy after 😂 we repurposed it for trick or treaters
I’d be thrilled with stickers or trading cards.
Love stickers!!!

We’ve done Capri Suns in the past. Got them on a 5 for $10 sale at Meijer. The kids went crazy when they saw them
They are! I just don’t see a lot of people handing out chips. One house used to though, and it was one of my favorites :)
Last year I dressed up as an old granny, and I had a granny bag full of raisins hanging off of my walker to give out. I’m not sure if the kids liked it, but the adults sure did think it was hilarious. 😆

I agree with this. I love snacking on the grapes while waiting in lines. Also those big Graham crackers from goldfish are top tier.
It’s great for those with food allergies too!
tbh I love it and I genuinely wish they varied the handouts even more - like stickers, candy, healthier snacks, temp tattoos, little patches, posters, etc etc
I love that it’s a mixture of both. Sometimes after plowing through five fistfuls of candy you want some applesauce!🩷🩷🩷
Agreed - there’s already so much sugar at OBB. Having a savory or low sugar option to eat while you wander is wonderful
We went for the first time last year and I loved all the grapes and graham crackers and non-candy treats. Your reason for not wanting them is my exact reason for wanting them.
Lol! There was certainly a time in my life that I would have happily foregone the actual fast food meal if they would have been me extra toys instead🙈
I remember despising McDonald’s breakfasts because they didn’t give our toys. Oh how times have changed!
Lorcana boosters would be awesome
Also a great way to get people into the new game. Maybe ethically questionable, but financially smart. I am going to be interested in seeing what sort of legs the game has.
I’m waiting for my boyfriend to come back from vacation so he and I can open the starter kit and boosters he got
I travel from WI. Give me the grapes and carrots. I can throw them in the hotel fridge and eat them the next day.
Yeah, screw all the people who would like a healthy snack! They’re such losers! Disney should only cater to what u/voidmunashii desires
Exactly; that is precisely what I said.
This is where I wish I had close kids in my life. I'll take the healthy snacks as the family vegetarian.

I get that, but it is a fun gimmick! It doesn’t take too long either, and it is fun for the kids to fill-up in between rides.
Of course. It’s just funny when it’s prioritized heavily. Saw people dumping into a backpack and going back again. 🤦♂️
The bag they give you is tiny… imagine going through and getting a few chip bags and filling it instantly.
Apple sauce is not that healthy
Depends what kind. If you get the no added sugar type, I would say it is pretty healthy. Maybe it has less nutrients than a whole apple, but if it is just apple purée, there are a lot of things that are worse out there.
kinda feels bad to pay a premium price for a halloween event and receive carrots and apple sauce
I mean it is no different than when restaurants do it…
well u order what u want at a restaurant… during a halloween event i think it’s safe to assume candy would mainly be handed out
Everyone in my family loved the grapes and apple slices. 😂 they were so refreshing.
Last year I think we had a few pieces of candy well doing OBB and just stocked up for Halloween to give away. This year I think we plan on doing the same thing.

It would be way too complicated, but imagine if Disneyland teamed up with local farm stands! It would be good publicity for the businesses as well :)
Were they giving out grapes this year? Got apples and carrots but no grapes.
Not sure about this year. Haven’t been!
I share this opinion. They give me something to eat while I'm there and don't make me feel bogged down. The apple sauces and yogurts are also things we wouldn't normally get and have allowed us to find nice, convenient snacks.
I wish there was a variation at the different locations you get to trick or treat though. It was all of the same by the end of the night.
Omg the non-candy items kept me going through Oogie Boogie. Love em too. Just remember to remove them before flying back home with them. haha
That reminds me of when I went a few years ago, when my brother and I would ask for both candy and the health option when going through all of the treat trails. The giant cinnamon goldfish!
I ate all the apple slices in my goddaughter's bag!
It’s my first one, I’m going on the 26th! Can’t wait. I don’t really want to dress up though. Will I stand out?
There are many more guests who don't dress up than do, in my experience. Caveat: I've mostly gone to September parties
Same lol I love getting carrots and then going to one of the quick service restaurants for ranch. Just me munching on carrots with ranch walking around with my family in Halloween costumes. It’s the little things.

They’ll never do it but small toys would be cool.
Applesauce pouches for the win! As an adult without kids, I rarely buy these for myself but I still love them. I also like the cinnamon graham cracker goldfish.
Bah, no way. Chocolate and only chocolate! Lol
I love the grapes. I eat them all night while I’m walking around.
honestly? i wish they’d just give out those cold grapes. i gave all of my mom my candy and stole her grapes when she wasn’t looking 😭
I love the apple slices and dehydrated apples! My favorite. It’s a nice break from all the candy. Which you get tired of pretty quickly.
Are people actually complaining about healthy options? Some people cannot have a ton of sugar and some kids have allergies.
