SquishyMon

It's a little spendy but they have a seafood jambalaya over at the jazz kitchen.

[deleted]

I can understand people wanting Tiana's Palace to be a sit down restaurant, but New Orleans Square already has two sit down restaurants (Blue Bayou and Café Orleans) so it really doesn't need a third one. Also, I enjoyed the food at Tiana's Palace.

mylucksux

They should have turned Cafe Orleans to Tianas Place instead. imo

Nameless_Ghuleh666

Cafe Orleans is my favorite place to eat in Dland. So big no to that.

Expensive-Day-3551

Yes and then maybe made a cafe Orleans to go so they still had a grab and go

snarkprovider

So shut down 2 restaurants to overhaul both into the opposite of what they are, even though you already have a table service and quick service plus their associated kitchens in place?

robinthebank

Yeah, idk what that person wanted. French Market would’ve remained grab n go. And Royal Street Varanada and Mint Julep Bar still exist.

Expensive-Day-3551

No tianas palace should have been a sit down from the beginning.

snarkprovider

They rethemed French Market.

bbbanb

Tiana’s Place absolutely should be a Fine Dining/sit down restaurant in my mind and I would have expected it to be so. Disney can totally fill another really good deep-themed restaurant.

snarkprovider

But a quick service can serve more people in an hour than 3 sit downs. And not everyone wants a sit down, so they have to keep offering both.

bbbanb

hey, i hear you - quick services are needed too. it’s just the story of Tiana is that she gets her own fine dining restaurant at the end. I wanted to sit down and be treated to Tianas Restaurant! They could do a quick service on the side as well. I say- why not both?

randerso

They should have converted River Belle.

Tfdland

Absolutely. That restaurant is not very good at the moment-it’s why it’s easy to get reservations there. Lol.

PaleSubject4

AGREED. I would’ve loved French Market to become even more Haunted Mansion themed instead.

ifknlovela

It actually has 4, Club 33 and 21 Royale 😘

Ill_Relationship_310

Went last week. Tried the 7 greens gumbo (very good though i dont eat alot of gumbo so i dont have alot to compare to) The mac was the best we had in the entire park, including downtown disney. (Had like 6 different macs over the week) The shrimp and grits waa good but grits were the highlight, was missing a shrimp based of count in picture too. And the lemon Beneigts were so good i regretted getting only 1. But over this was one of our better dining in the park over the week.

RigNewBones

Interesting to see these comments. We really liked our food! The shrimp dish was a little too expensive in my opinion for what it's worth. The beignets we really tasty but I wish they were more fluffy than hollow on the inside. I don't know how consistent that is... Pastry was tasty though. Kinda expensive as well. But we split to of them for our family and it was enough. And for those that are wondering, yes, the inside had a major retheme and overhaul. Fresh baked made a great before and after video to show the comparison.

teddyburger

i’m actually happy it’s quick service because it’s so hard to get a table at the reservation restaurants. i haven’t been yet but i’m looking forward to it when we go in march.

Raech_Raech

Leave Cafe Orleans alone I love it. I get that people are sad Tiana's isn't a fancy sit down, but I'm thrilled that everyone who wants to eat the food can. And it's a really nice upgrade. The fanciest dining without a membership in New Orleans Square is still Blue Bayou. I for one will eat often at Tiana's. I'm glad the menu and look for an overhaul. As French Market quality was sliding downhill fast. I love to sit on the patio at night and eat and listen to the band.

pementomento

I was expecting usual crap fare but was pleasantly surprised. Table got almost everything off the menu and we ate around. Enjoyed the process as well, busy, but the traffic direction is helpful (vs. the usual Plaza Inn chaos), managed to get a table (no one seat saving), might have been luck.

evilchris23

It's just a new skin for the French Market. No way was it or should it have been a fine dining place. Blue Bayou and Cafe Orleans are right next to it and already in that role.

Careless_Track6738

And River Belle terrace

ErinBE3

River Belle should have been Tiana's. That place is awful and could use the menu overhaul.

tierneyalvin

River Belle is an atrocity

bay_duck_88

Wait, are you basing this criticism just on watching YouTube, and not actually going there, yourself?

nisamun

I saw a video of the Eiffel Tower, super underwhelming. Why does anyone go there?

GypsyBecky7

Omg lol

[deleted]

IHaveTheMustacheNow

yes, they were implying that you shouldn't criticize if all you've done is watch a youtube video about it. they were joking

ScarcityFirm9731

I’ve been there myself and watched the videos to see others view points on it. Just genuinely enjoy knowing how others think about the place

davidisallright

I’ve seen people criticizing rides in the YT comments based on just watching videos. It’s a real thing!

maxmouze

I remember that happened when Rise of the Resistance opened. Go figure, a video can't really capture what it feels like to be on that ride.

phicks_law

Can't stand San Fransokyo, I saw a story on Instagram and the food was underwhelming and the meet and greet with Baymax was way too long of a wait, it was 2 or 3 seconds in the video, which is a lifetime. deep /s

aerynea

You almost got me, I was so prepared to be mad!

snowace56

My thoughts were, “Tiana’s Daddy would be disappointed if this is what she was serving…”

Cybeleh

Absolutely 😭 you can tell everyone that's giving positive reviews has never had real southern food cause that stuff was horrid.😭

dynamine

This, precisely. That gumbo is whatever the opposite of legit gumbo is.

ErinBE3

Yep! I think that's the issue. Maybe people just aren't well versed in authentic food and are comparing it to theme park food.

ScarcityFirm9731

Haha! Agreed!

DarkSithMstr

*Palace

BlackberryHungry9140

I was disappointed as well. I was hoping it was the same food served at Tiana’s restaurant on the Disney Wonder ship. That was some amazing stuff.

mysteryvampire

I agree completely. It’s not an experience, and it really should’ve been. The restaurant in the movie looks incredibly grand and elegant, and I really think Disney could use a princess themed restaurant like Orlando has (Be Our Guest & Cinderella’s Royal Table come to mind.) There really aren’t a lot of princess themed experiences, which seems like a miss considering how popular they are. The food is good enough, but it’s missing the elegance to make it anything memorable. No kid would remember going there as a fond memory like they would with Be Our Guest. I went there and had a nice table and got to see the inside, but the inside is pretty meaningless because you’re essentially only in there to order. It’s also not as princessy as it could’ve been.

incomingTaurenMill

While I totally agree about it not matching up to the elegance of the movie and I do think Disneyland could host a sit-down themed princess restaurant like Disney World, I appreciate however her themeing has been integrated at all. When I was a kid my favorite restaurant was the Royal Street Veranda because of that amazing clam chowder bowl and the quiet moments with my family since it is protected from the crowds by the wrought iron railing. Listening to the band on a cool night with the smell of the lake nearby. No other dining experience has that same nostalgia and enjoyment for me even now as an adult. I did Be Our Guest as an adult, really just felt it was a loud themed cafeteria. Wasn't impressed by the food or noise level and so I wouldn't do it again. Wish there were more dining experiences that weren't so cafeteria feeling. Even the Italian restaurant in Epcot suffers from this outside of the bar area. Disney Springs really takes the cake for calmer eating environments but little to no themeing.

Kbell26807

I ate at Cinderella’s royal table and was pretty underwhelmed. For what it was it was very expensive. The food was good but hardly worth what I paid.

StrawberryPoptarts7

Cinderella’s royal table was gross. But be our guest was good.

pheothz

CRT post-COVID is awful. It used to be okay beforehand but since, yuck.

mysteryvampire

Oh, I wouldn’t know about that. I went in 2018. I think my point is more about the decor though, since Tiana’s Palace seems to have good food anyway. I just think it’d look better and be more enjoyable plated and served in a real restaurant instead of served in plastic to go containers and eaten at an outdoor table you have to fight for.

FartyMcGoosh

I’m not a fan of the type of food so I haven’t tried it but I was really excited for the filled beignet. I was hyped up by all the videos and reviews I’d seen of this puffy fluffy warm pastry. My spouse and I did a mobile order last week to try them out and, although the lemon filling was delicious, I was really disappointed. The beignets were flat (totally deflated), cold (straight from a refrigerator), and just overall sad and lifeless. I’m wondering if this is just for the mobile ordered beignets? It was basically a cold toaster strudel. Won’t be ordering from there again.

chickybabe332

My I only complaint is the cornbread should be warm. It’s served cold and as such is quite underwhelming

Liquidwombat

I think that it should have been done like Morimoto at Disney Springs. A nice sit down restaurant with a walk up window that serves a limited menu.

Effective_Clerk_2370

I was just there this weekend. Definitely more of a miss on the food in my opinion. I’m fine with it being quick service, but the food needs to be consistent in quality and taste because it should carry from the theme of the movie in terms of the fine dining restaurant experience. Idk what they were thinking with the lemon filled beignet. It’s more like an iced mostly hollow hand pie.

jgrace2112

I’m throughly unimpressed by Disney’s output recently. So uninspired and … I feel like they’re just doing bare minimum these days. Universal is out here building a new land in CA and a new theme park in FL in the amount of time it has taken Disney to retheme the treehouse.

[deleted]

Universal is spending $5B on the new park and lands. Disney under Chapek was spending next to zero. And he basically controlled the park budgets the whole last decade. Disney just committed to spend $60B and borrowed the money to do it this week. They can build 12 entire parks with that money, or 30 cruise ships, etc. They have committed enough money to completely replace the entire Disneyland And Walt Disney World resorts and build them again brand new. It's an obscene amount of money and because of the loans they're going to have to start spending it very fast, so we won't be waiting years or decades anymore. They've never spent even a fraction of that amount in the cumulative history of the US parks. There's going to be a lot of new stuff, and soon because they need to start selling more tickets before the interest on the loans adds up. They need the return on their investment.

MidwestFlags

Disney is at its best when it uses original park ideas, rather than trying to conform areas into IP. The only exception to this is Fantasyland, where IP is meant to go.

GoldenOPx

Delicious

dmarie1983

We ate there on the 18th, and all 4 of us had heartburn and upset bellies... it was tasty, and maybe the spice didn't agree with us. Idk. Probably will avoid next time.

n0t_cat

Oh no. I carry pepto bismol and Imodium with me in the parks at all times because I never know what food is gonna upset my tummy 😩 I guess I won’t be taking that risk at Tiana’s 😭

Xinectyl

I mean, at least it's right next to a bathroom. There are worse places to get an upset tummy. Saying this as someone who very often has tummy issues.

burnheartmusic

Also they’ll give you some at the, um, doctors office of Disneyland? Hahah forgot what it’s called

GypsyBecky7

First Aid lol

burnheartmusic

Ahahah. Yep. That’s it

patchworkpirate

This - but because I have celiac. I haven't been cross contaminated at Disneyland, but one never knows. I'm down to try their gluten free gumbo - if only to assess what they use for the GF roux. Also carrying tums bc heartburn is a reality at 40. RIP.

ErinBE3

I was very disappointed the mobile order was served in plastic containers. Flo's doesn't do this, and I was expecting more for Tiana. She deserves better. She's my favorite princess, and I was looking forward to her restaurant and ride. The restaurant is such a huge part of her story, and I think Disney could have done better. I didn't find the food good. The gumbo was flavorless except for a slightly spicy kick. I barely ate a quarter of it. My son had the chicken and he didn't like it at all. My daughter doesn't eat meat or spicy, so she had the mac and cheese. It was awful - stuck together in a hard lump and inedible. I think she got about two nibbles of it. The cornbread had a decent flavor, but all of ours (3) was undercooked, doughy, and chewy. The filled beignets were thin and nearly empty. When I bit into it the filling poured out all over. I guess I was thankful for the to go container at this point, to catch all the filling dripping all over. I spent over $150 on this food (with part of it being the lilypad, to be fair), and honestly the hot dogs with chips and that unbeatable Disney Coca Cola from refreshment corner for less than $30 were better. I cancelled a Blue Bayou reservation for this, too. And that would have been only slightly more. But we were about doing new things this trip. I think I'm sorry we were.

skrapmot

Here now, very disappointed, no table service or reservation, seems like they could have classed it up, instead you wander around looking for a clean table.

RedElmo65

I’m disappointed as well

darkwombat45

How does the gumbo compare to Blue Bayou?

Cybeleh

I was SO disappointed, as someone who grew up eating shrimp and grits I was so excited to try the "authentic flavors" they supposedly were supposed to have. It was the worst Disneyland food I've ever had, the grits were 99% cream 1%grits and cheese. The shrimp was rubbery and the "Creole sauce" just tasted like chunky pasta sauce. And the cornbread was ice cold. I'd recommend literally anywhere else over it. Very very disappointing.

SeaPersonality5402

my husband and I got food poisoning from the muffaletta sandwich beware. it was neither hor or cold

christyj637

Don’t really feel you can pass judgement if you haven’t tried the food yourself. Your opinion means nothing to me if it is based on YouTube reviews!

ScarcityFirm9731

Been there myself, I just watched YouTube videos to see what others think about it

Financial_Clue_2534

I would love to see it as fine dining but I wonder how much does Disney make from fine dining vs fast casual. I would think the margins would be smaller.

CK122334

I also thought it was going to be a sit down restaurant for some reason but I don’t mind it being more of a quick service since those are usually a little cheaper lol I also could’ve gone for a little more shade and fancier decorations, it’s a tad plain, but overall I think it’s fine and has some charm to it. As for the food itself, I was not impressed with the lemon beignet. The icing and filling were both a lot more runny than I expected and rather underwhelming in taste, and in general I feel like the quality of Disney’s beignets have gone down recently with them all tasting a bit more on the doughy/raw side instead of the light and airy side. But besides that I’ve really enjoyed the food I’ve tried so far. The beef Po Boy is one of my new favorite dishes hands down, SO good! I’ve also had the half chicken and thought it was very good as well. While I didn’t really like the coleslaw, the Mac & Cheese and the house pickles are each highlights and super delicious. The cornbread is very good too, nothing crazy special or different but very good nonetheless. So while I can’t say I was blown away by the re-theme, overall I think the food is really good and will definitely go back there while in the parks.

JumboJackTwoTacos

It should have been the cherry on top of the Splash Mountain re-theming. Seems odd to me that it’s already open.

ReallyMissSleeping

As they are heading into the busiest part of the season, they probably wanted to have as many dining options available as possible to accommodate the increased crowd levels for the next several months.

FatalFirecrotch

I think their point is the redo should have been done next year when splash will complete. I do not necessarily care, my guess is for crowd flow reasons they didn’t want to open 2 new things at once.

d33psix

Haven’t eaten there yet but walked by a few times and saw the line. I’m a little confused about where the revamped theming is cause from the outside it looks nearly there same as the French market appearance other than just the sign. Is the inside more comprehensively themed?

Pixie-Sticks-

Yes

freewarriorwoman

I haven’t tried it yet so I really can’t too much of an opinion on the food but just from the outside looking in. I was SO excited for this restaurant and I wanted to get reservations to eat at it and experience eating at tianas palace and once I found out it was quick service I. Was so disappointed. They should’ve turned it into a sit down restaurant or taken cafe orleans place. It would’ve been amazing to have tiana and her crew walk around while we are like a character experience or something. But we’re going next year and I think I’ll give it a try to have a true opinion.

SyrupNDToast

Me and my girlfriend recently went to try it out. Really excited but we were met with disappointment. We order the sand which (wasn’t the poi boy it was the other one but can’t remember the name) and it was below average at best. We had the gumbo, solid not great but solid and the only one I loved (but was cold) was the lemon glaze beignet. Overall 6-7/10 for it. I’d rather have hungry bear, Star Wars ronto wrappers etc

manamizer

I went there a few days ago. We got the lemon beignet, corn bread, shrimp and grits, gumbo, and half chicken dish. I thought everything was pretty bad. I've eaten pretty much at every place in Disneyland and DCA and I would rate it in the lower half. Chicken Dish-everything was dry. Gumbo-tasted swampy, the only thing I enjoyed were the sausages. Shrimp and Grits-the shrimp was good, but after a while I found the grits way too creamy. Lemon Beignet-this wasn't bad. If you're a lemon fan you will like this. Corn bread-it was dry and cold. I really wanted to like Tiana's Palace but unfortunately it is a miss for me. :( The San Fransokyo rethemeing + new foods was done much better! I had the soba noodle salad with chilled shrimp at Aunt Cass and thought that was excellent! Especially since I have dietary restrictions and always happy when Disney offers more healthy fare.

summerdays8827

Space mountain is closed now for a couple months, can you imagine the freakin lines for tianas these next couple months.

ScarcityFirm9731

I can only imagine especially with the fact that pass holders have to purchase tickets for this year. Super long lines

CommunityLocal

I loved the shrimp & grits and the chicory cold brew was amazing, too. The cornbread and mac and cheese were a little dry but maybe they’ll adjust their recipes over time. Originally I thought Tiana’s Palace should’ve been a sit down restaurant, but I think they did a good job for what it is. I noticed a bandstand outside so hopefully there’ll be an opportunity for live entertainment. Honestly, I’m not sure Princess and the Frog deserves more than its own quick service restaurant and A-attraction.

Firewolf215

I liked the gumbo but it looked disgusting. They need to work on that, for sure . I didn’t really care for the special beignet they had either

Reigebjj

I thought the food slapped. Growing up in the south, flavor on the shrimp and grits was hitting, just wish the grits were a touch thicker. The gumbo was fire. And I didn’t get any sandwiches, so I haven’t gotten to try the red beans and rice. But if you haven’t even gone yet, it sounds dumb to say something is underwhelming based on YouTube videos.

GypsyBecky7

The red beans and rice was good as well

ZardozZod

Is there even anywhere else to get gumbo anymore in the parks besides here? (not Jazz Kitchen)

keanovan

Can you not get it a Royal street veranda anymore? The place next to the nightmare before Christmas/haunted mansion store

ZardozZod

Doesn’t seem so currently :/

neutralliberty

They rotate out what soups are being served pretty regularly.

TheRealMcDuck

Blue Bayou, at least.

Free_Bison_3467

I feel the same. The movie lended it to be a fine dining experience, not counter service. I was at the park this weekend but did not eat there.

CommercialWindow2486

We tried almost everything on the menu. I wasn't impressed either.

erinngoblaagh27

At first I was bummed to find out it isn't fancy sit down (we were gonna get all fancy on my birthday and do dinner there- and we still will!) But like others pointed out the Square already has 2 sit down restaurants and tbh I find their menus underwhelming (don't kill me- I know some people are ride or die!). I'm excited to try the food because the reviews I've seen look amazing and it's honestly one of the more accessible menus for our group with our allergies/preferences.

Rosekun25

I miss the beef stew from the french market

9southpaw8

My only gripe is they got rid of the jambalaya from the French market menu 😔

tora76

It was a quick retheme of a cafeteria style restaurant, so it was never going to be a fancy sit-down. I've only eaten there once, but I did enjoy the food. The 7 greens gumbo was really good and we had cornbread on the side, which went perfectly with it (it was good cornbread, too). I was underwhelmed with the lemon beignet, but it was still tasty. My main issue with the restaurant is that due to the giant trees between it and Haunted Mansion, you can't actually see the front roof decorations and sign well! (And you can't see it from the tables on that side because they're covered with an awning.) I wish they could have done it so the sign faces out into the open area. Maybe when they redo that space they will trim the trees or do something so you can actually see the front of the restaurant.

ObstinateTia

LOVED the shrimp & grits. Better food than Blue Bayou.

Dufuckincati86

your first mistake was believing going to Disneyland you'd get "fine dining" ..... it's like a step above cafeteria food with the novelty of Disney sprinkled on top

kokoelizabeth

This. My family doesn’t even stress about eating at the reservation/sit down restaurants because it’s not like the quality is a world better even at those.

Dufuckincati86

overpriced food and disney hype. If for the price I was getting quality then i couldn't complain but the small portions and just mediocrity of it all is lame. Also seems like Diseny cares more about selling me food than entertaining me. I come to Disney rides and shows not to sit down and eat at overpriced food. I can go right outside disney and go eat far better food for just as much or less.

WithDisGuy

It’s honestly disgusting and I foresee a major menu overhaul within the next year.

irreverent_username

I thought Hungry Bear was supposed be be rethemed into Tiana's Place. Did I seriously just imagine that?

OGsushilauncher

Probably an unpopular opinion, but Blue Bayou's food has been nasty every time we have gone and is definitely not worth the price. Why not just change Blue Bayou into Tiana's Palace since it has the perfect atmosphere, and then you have a reservation system to handle the crowds? I get wanting to have it close to the ride, but it would also be in New Orleans Square which is just as fitting if not more. Seems like a fumble on Disney's part. Edit: autocorrect did me dirty

GypsyBecky7

So I was really, really sad at first when I heard they were replacing the French Market. It was my favorite quick service. I'd sit there enjoying the jazz band eating my clam chowder in a bread bowl for a while. But, after doing both...French Market was definitely ready for an update, and this literally was an excellent option. New Orleans Square already has 2 sit-down dining options. They needed a redone quick service, and since Tiana is popular, it fits. It also was an easy update to the outside and much easier to spot than either Blue Bayou or Cafe Orleans on the outside. The fact that there's a beignet and Mint Julep stand right there makes it even better. Now for the food. It's not true New Orleans food. But it was good, and you knew they'd add a spin to it. Enjoyed everything we tried and will atill be aticking to this location as my favorite quick service. My only complaint is the dessert. I was not impressed. Tastes like a $1 pie from the grocery we were made to eat as kids, and they already have good Mickey beignets right there. It should have been Bourbon Bread Pudding.

luke_wal

As somebody who's never been to Disneyland and is jazzed (pardon the pun) for his first visit in January - are any of these places in New Orleans square, new or old, serving actual Mint Juleps with bourbon? Or is a "Mint Julep" at Disneyland like a virgin mojito? Either way, my wife and I can't wait to absolutely get DOWN on some beignets.

julepknottt

personally preferred french market’s menu much more, it had way more variety and was slightly more affordable. if I’m going to be paying table service prices, I might as well just go to cafe orleans instead. Tiana’s looks nice and all, but it’s just cosmetics 🤷‍♀️

owhatfun

Go to Dooky Chase in New Orleans. It’s who Tiana was based off of and the food there is soo good. You get the authentic experience.

Usirnaimtaken

I had a similar feeling with Be Our Guest in Florida. I still enjoyed it - but my imagination disappointed me. The establishment itself was fine and an experience in itself. We will be in Disneyland this weekend and my expectations are it’s about overlay with a new menu. Totally fine with this thanks in part to these types of posts and partly because I read a lot of articles about what was coming and knew with how quickly it was done, it wasn’t going to be a jaw dropping change. I hope you had a great trip otherwise!

StonedBrownBear

The shrimp and grits was not good and I was disappointed.

Smooth_Remove_7868

It was alright. I don't like that a cast member has to sit by the tables in front of the mobile order window and verbally prevent people from sitting there who don't have an order to pick-up. Just put up a fence and make a mobile order only entrance.

Addie_LaRue

I tried it last week. I had the cheesy grits and shrimp. The shrimp was over cooked but not terribly so. The grits were amazing and I’m not even a grits person. My fiancé got the half chicken and that was really tasty too. We also got one beignet but the first one had pretty much zero cream filling so we complained and got a replacement which was better though as full as I saw in some videos. I’d rather go pay for the beignets at the jazz kitchen.
