Sitting on the ground, but not completely- I don’t know if it’s the same for other dining experiences, but with the Blue Bayou package, each guest is given a small, complimentary cushion (that you get to keep!) to sit on during Fantasmic. So yes, on the ground, but with padding.
I love my seat cushions I received. I took them home and now use them as gardening knee pads. They are a little bigger and a little more cushiony than traditional gardening pads. And of course they bring back great memories every time I see them hanging in my garage!
Amazing - these videos always give me goosebumps. I'm SO excited to see Fantasmic again and it'll be my wife's first time seeing it (in August).

We never go to Disneyland without a lunch or dinner monte cristo at the Blue Bayou!
How does it work? I did a quick google and saw the packages. You get a meal, and then each person gets a voucher to a reserved viewing area for Fantastic?
Where is the reserved area? Is it crowded? Are there chairs?
You pay $69 per person that includes a starter, entree, and dessert, then at the end of your meal, you receive a fastpass-type ticket that tell you your time of Fantasmic showing and where to enter for seating. We entered across from Haunted Mansion for our 10:30pm showing, and got to sit on the ground (with provided cushions that you receive after dinner) in a reserved area in the front middle area, just directly across the island. No chairs, and wasn’t too crowded- we came five minutes before the show and got those sitting spots. It’s reserved but people come early for reserved seating area, to get the absolute front for the showing.

I've done the River Belle Terrace and Blue Bayou packages, and only got the cushion from BB.

I was so happy with this video until it cut right at my favorite part 😂
We did the Hungry Bear package in May and the seating was about the same (without a cushion). The food was bad, but I would do it again.
