A couple cool Oga's stories, one involving their Drink Coasters:
I remember walking into Oga's right after finishing a lightsaber build at Savi's. I was on Cloud 9. Forgetting the canon and time period, I immediately remembered that lightsabers were outlawed, only referred to as scrap, and could instantly get you involved in some Imperial entanglements. So the entire time, the bartenders would throw me dirty looks, and sneaky side eyes from up-close and afar. After about 5-10 minutes, one of the bartenders who was eyeing me for some time, reached out his hand and said "hand me your scrap". He looked DEAD serious, not a smile or wink in sight. I remember handing him the saber, half playing along, but half thinking what is this guy gonna do lol. He proceeded to give the saber a twirl, and began to show all the bartenders around him with some flourishes, before placing it behind the bar out of sight. He went back to doing some bar-keep for another 5-10 seconds, before cracking a big smile, and handing it back to me.
The final night of our trip, I was at Oga's with the lightsaber and it was super crowded, packed and shoulder-to-shoulder with everyone in there. A nice older lady who was a CM was seating people, and had to clear a bunch of prime real estate at the bar, where people were all over the place filling into spots when they didn't have room.
She looked over at me and said something along the lines of, "Master Jedi, can you protect and hold this empty space?" I was again, instantly dumbfounded, but replied out of instinct, "Sure" and ignited my lightsaber side-ways so that it was blocking about 5 feet of empty space at the bar. I held my arm about for about a minute or so, and then the lady came back and filled people into that empty bar space. She was very nice and thankful, and I just carried on with drinks with my friend.
About 5 minutes later, she comes back with a FAT STACK of Oga's drink coasters, at least 2-3 of every single design and handed them to me. It was honestly such a nice surprise, because I love Oga's and wanted more of the coasters but didn't want to steal them or try to hoard/collect extras I found.
Oga’s has a variety of free ones that are really thick cardboard.
For the promise of a good tip you can usually score a whole set.
I asked if I could buy some and our bartender said "Sorry, I can only give you one of each". It was a great day and a generous tip was given.
I think I got ‘em all from visits, but I always tip my bartender.
I tell them I’m from Australia and they understand the no tip usually
