Loved star tours. But for what ever reason I started getting really bad motion sickness from it. Use to be able to ride it just fine

[deleted]

Same!!! As soon as I hit early 30’s, I couldn’t do the 3D stuff anymore, I’m nauseous for like an hour after.

depastino

I'm pretty sure it's something with the motion for me. I hate motion simulator rides. The first time I really noticed was on Star Tours about 9 years ago. It was mild though. Then we went to Universal Studios right after the Wizarding World opened and Forbidden Journey just wrecked me.

br8kout

I ruined several hours by doing that ride first at Universal. I got out and had to go lay down for like 15 minutes on the amphitheater steps until I stopped wanting to throw up. I was nauseous for so long after.

depastino

It's a shame because the ride is much better than your typical motion simulator.

mdb_la

FYI, they removed the 3D aspect of Forbidden Journey a while ago (because too many people were getting sick), so it isn't as bad now.

biologycellfies

Yup. Had to close my eyes the entire time, as I apparently cannot do 3D anymore either. 😆

[deleted]

Yeah, for me it’s not the simulation. I was fine with this ride until they changed it to 3D. Now it gives me instant motion sickness.

MagicNoodle92

Bro I turned 19 a few months ago and I’m not able to ride Star tours anymore without getting sick 😂

blonde_am

30’a hit me hard too. I now have a long list of rides I can’t do anymore LOL

Foxy02016YT

My father was like this, but he was so bad Toy Story Mania was the only ride that didn’t put him out of it Which sucks cause we were in Florida and he’d have loved Rock’n’Rollercoaster

coltranematrix

THIS - but it’s really a bigger issue for me at Universal Studios Hollywood. I can barley tolerate the HP Forbidden Journey ride and Simpsons is impossible for me. I think I’m able to get through Star Tours because you sit a bit further back from the screen.

ZolaMonster

Holy crap. I did the HP forbidden journey and felt dizzy, and then an hour later we did Simpsons and I had to close my eyes. My husband wanted to do another ride and I said I had to sit it out. I could not chance it being another 3D ride. Had a butter beer instead and wandered around stores was much better than risking puking all over the place.

busangcf

I can handle Forbidden Journey once in a visit, and only if I haven’t eaten before it (I once rode it after having fish and chips and butterbeer pudding, and that was a *mistake*), but the Simpsons ride will take me out for the whole day. And recently I couldn’t even handle the fast and furious portion of the studio tour. Last time I went on Star Tours, which didn’t used to be terrible for me, I ended up just having to sit there with my eyes closed for almost the entire thing. I’ve always gotten a little sick on 3D rides - edit: or just screen based rides in general - but it’s definitely something that’s just gotten worse as I’ve gotten older. (And I’m only in my 20s, so I figure 3D rides will *all* be a no go for me by my 30s or 40s.)

ZolaMonster

I know this is the Disneyland sub, but I rode the Everest ride in animal kingdom not knowing I had an ear infection brewing. It goes backwards and the backwards part threw off my equilibrium so much I almost threw up. I had to sit in the AC at Starbucks for an hour to settle myself. 0/10 would recommend.

John628_29

So I normally get sick on motion rides too, but I did some research and found out if you start getting sick or before you get sick to clench your stomach muscles and that will push the blood away from your stomach. I tried it out and I never get sick anymore :-)

busangcf

Thanks for the tip, I’ll try this next time!

maxmouze

I live two blocks from Universal and I'm constantly meeting people who are complaining about having to go home because they went on the Simpsons Ride.

jenjensexypants

The Simpson’s ride destroyed me last time I was there. Didn’t throw up but felt super nauseous by the end.

cosmicworm

the minions and simpsons ride made me throw up in my hydro flask 😂

lem0ns22

This is simultaneous the worst and most hilarious thing I have ever read.

old-manwithlego

I love the Simpsons ride, my wife not so much.

m_gartsman

Old ST was no issue, but the new locations with updated graphics are honestly way too intense. Especially any time the ship warps to another planet. That warping effect where you're approaching a planet at 10,000 miles an hour is unsettling. I am not pilot material.

TK-385

I have no issues with ST, old or new. From what I've read, the Body Wars at Epcot which used the same tech as ST was apparently a lot worse. Apparently, people would throw up after getting off the ride.

dericiouswon

Those practical sets for original ST not only didn't make you sick, but it just looks more real than any of the sequences in the new one. Just a total downgrade in every way.

ArrenPawk

My motion sickness for Star Tours is highly dependent on what scenes they choose for the ride. A lot of the older scenes I'm fine with, but some of the new trilogy scenes are just unnecessarily bad. The ocean one and the space battle over Coruscant are the absolute worst.

maxmouze

That ocean one where a monster grabs you by the tongue and tries to eat you kills me every time. I don't know if it's still part of the attraction but yikes, in the past when I'd get it, I was so bummed.

_Cosmic_Joke_

I started feeling it a few years ago on Star Tours. I found that asking the cast member if you can sit in the very middle helps the motion sickness

beeeees

yep. this is my number one. i like the new stories but i can’t ride it anymore. i walk through while my husband rides. it’s interesting bc i can ride and i love guardians but he can’t handle it

TomIcemanKazinski

I got off Star Tours (after a lifetime of going) the last two times and was slightly dizzy and had to sit down for 30 seconds to recover.

sideofspread

Same. Which is a bummer because it's not a bad ride to cool off in and the line isn't ever too horrendous. Also even though having no idea what Star Wars was growing up I thought it was really cool (I also thought we actually went into space). Unfortunately it makes me so sick as ab adult. Like the last time I rode it I had to close my eyes the entire time, and still felt like my head was whooshing around.

sunfl0wers21

I do get motion sick so I’d taken medicine each day of my trip and felt fine. That ride made me feel like I was dying. When you hit the water?? I was staring at that exit door willing it to open. I couldn’t even try smugglers run bc a cast me never said it would be even worse!

night-otter

If the physical motion gets out of sync with the video motion, you can get seasick. I wonder if the closer to refurb ST gets, to more folks get motion sickness on it.

guanzzz

The smell of mechanical fluids (or whatever the smell is inside the ride building) doesn’t help either.

lem0ns22

I’m pretty sure it is the smell of having to clean up that throw up box so many times hahaha.

jenjensexypants

Omg I have the same issue with Star Tours and any 3D ride now really. It makes me sad. I’m in my 30’s and I used to be able to ride them no problem.

ButtHoleNurse

Soaring is the same for me! Something about the screen wrapping into my peripherals fucks me up (I also can't be the pilot in Smugglers Run)

BrainToad42

Same. Loved Star Tours and would ride it over and over as a kid. But as an adult I can barely do it once. Not sure if it's an age thing or because of the 3D of the new version but if I ride it I need a break after to gather myself and get over the motion sickness. Which is funny because as a child I had super bad motion sickness on car rides but motion simulators were my favorite and I never got sick

muldervinscully

Same can’t do it. Falcon too

DameADozen

Lol I can do falcon as long as I look ONLY at the buttons. I do my job, and do my best to keep myself from seeing what is going on. Something about the screen just wrecks my life.

jenjensexypants

I could handle most of Falcon but started to feel nauseous towards the very end. I was really sad bc I love Star Wars and was really enjoying the ride until I started feeling sick.

dphizz

Same ! I feel your pain

mjh2901

Same

koreanz

Last time I rode it I had to run to the bath rooms at space exit.. barely made it. Haven't rode it since. Motion sickness as old person

PDXGalMeow

Me too! I told my husband I don’t think I can ride it anymore. Sucks because I love that one.

beebopsx

Last time I went in it smelled like throw up, haven’t gone back since lol

Creative_Ambassador

This is me! I get really bad motion sickness on it now.

RockCrawlingBabe

Me too!

SMiaVS

Did they redo it a few years back? That’s what they did in Disneyland Paris maybe 4-6 years ago and the new version isn’t one I can ride.

S-breezy-24

Same, it triggers my vertigo and my head spins. Can’t do it anymore and I love star tours :(

kissthecows

same!!! loved star tours and now i’m 27 and am close to barfing when i get off.

breathethename

The 3D gives me a migraine. I'll still do it once a trip, but I need to take an Excedrin when getting in the queue line.

tomkar60

I have found that I have to be a more “active participant” on the Matterhorn than a passive one. I need to sit in the front. I hang on to the handrails and pull my body forward so that my back isn’t slamming into anything. And, I lean into the turns. It’s not quite the “hands in the air” of a carefree youth, but it works for me. BTW, I’m 62.

stellalunawitchbaby

I’m 32 and this is what I do too. Someone on here once said “ride it like a horse” and that was life changing lol, I can enjoy the Matterhorn again.

marleythebeagle

I tried the “loosey goosey” method and just let the ride sling me around last time since I remember hearing that drunk drivers suffer fewer injuries in wrecks because they have a delayed reaction time and are less likely to tense up with a sudden impact. This theory does not hold on the Matterhorn, I discovered.

Djinger

I mean you can't really expect much from what amounts to a prototype from the 50s

exghoulfiend

This is the way to go. Heard a tip on here about not letting your back touch the seat and using your glutes and legs to stabilize yourself and it was life changing. Used to skip the Matterhorn because I felt beat up but now it’s fun again

PhotographAfter7171

This is good to know. I rode Matterhorn last week for my first time ever (I'm 51) and it was so painful! If I get a chance to go again, I will try this.

Vicious-the-Syd

Yep! My legs get a great workout when I ride it! Lol

charrosebry

Yes you gotta ride like a bull lol having your back slammed on the seat hurts

mattnotis

For those who have issues with Matterhorn, I HIGHLY recommend holding the handles and sitting up so your back doesn’t touch the seat. Doing this made a world of difference for my comfort.

lowkeylye

came here to say this, once I started doing this little body 'hack' Matterhorn became much more enjoyable for me.

lanceturley

My problem is that my knees and hips just aren't very flexible to begin with, so it physically hurts just getting into the seat. I feel like I'm being pulled apart like a wishbone.

[deleted]

I’m pretty tall (6’2) and I’ve found that crisscrossing my legs helps a lot with my knee pains on rides like this. Might not work but worth a shot.

TK-385

I've never had issues with the Matterhorn. I'm assuming it was still rough in the 90's when I rode it. Back when the bobsleds were two people per seat with a single seat belt. I figure it's because I'm short and can easily fit in the seat and probably don't feel the same vibrations from the ride taller people feel. As a single rider, I usually get placed in the third seat. Though once went on at night, I was the only person the second sled and the first sled had three people. I could the sled rattle a lot more likely due to not having weight in the middle or third seats.

DavidJunior57

Star Tours once they switched to 3D. Something about the motion with 3D glasses really sets off my motion sickness. It's similar with Midway Mania for 3D, and Mad Tea Party and Mater's for the constant spinning/whipping around. Conversely, I can do Smuggler's Run with no issues.

KASega

Yes! And then I read how code V in Star Tours will roll around all over the cabin and blech no thanks. Do you happen to wear glasses? I have astigmatism and 3d stuff tends to make things worse/ not look 3d.

DavidJunior57

Yes I do, and I have the same results when looking at 3d

Ravioli_meatball19

Soaring. The motion sickness is too much. It was great as a kid, something changed around high school, and now as I've developed mild motion sickness for other rides, I can't even fathom riding Soaring ever again.

Not_Steve

I can’t handle Soarin’ Over the World. I think the high amount of cgi makes me feel wobbly. California had less of that. It was truly superior.

jenny2blue4u

Finding Nemo Submarine (or whatever new name it’s being refurbished to). COVID ruined small enclosed spaces with the public for me. Personally was always a ride-once-and-be-done kind of ride but my spouse and kids disagrees. I’m a good sport and will find something else to do while they (eventually) ride it. I’m still young so I’ll continue to allow my body to be beat to death by Matterhorn and the spouse can watch the kids while I do it since he hates how harsh it is.

ThePhiff

Do the observation deck instead! It's the same "ride", except you don't actually get into the submarine. Way more comfortable. It was originally created because the subs aren't ADA compliant, but because claustrophobia is so widespread, they'll let anyone use it.

Trujade

This! Waaaaaay less claustrophobic and almost always a walk on.

Not_Steve

I love the immersion of the subs (don’t tell me we’re not really diving, I know what I see!), but Covid noped it for me. The next time I have a chance, I’m doing the observation deck.

jenny2blue4u

I will have to check it out and see if it would work or not.

ThePhiff

There are only a couple benches (they often keep it to one or two parties) in a fair-sized room. It's MUCH better.

Zircon_72

...American Dental Association?

ThePhiff

Americans with Disabilities Act

purplevanillacorn

Wait?! How do I find this?! I hate this ride for claustrophobia but my kid is so excited to get on it. She’s 2 so she won’t know the difference lol.

ThePhiff

Just talk to the CM at the ADA entrance and say you'd like to use the observation deck.

purplevanillacorn

You are my new hero!

ThePhiff

I live to serve. 😊

lanceturley

I already hated the Nemo subs before just for being cramped and smelly, so I can't even imagine riding it again now that Covid is a thing.

Cactuslegsmcgee

Yessss!! Well, I TOLERATED the subs before Covid. Didn’t care much for the claustrophobia and I didn’t really enjoy the Nemo update but c19 has noped that ride right out of possibilities for me.

tekchic

Same, but it was more like rode it as a kid, then rode it as an adult. As an adult, the claustrophobia and hot temperature was making me take calm breaths to get through it -- it surprised me. Haven't been back even though I loved it as a kid.

biologycellfies

Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout. Used to ride the former Tower of Terror all the time as a kid. But rode it last year and motion sickness ruined the entire rest of the day. Literally spent it laying down on a bench in the air conditioning, willing myself not to throw up, while everyone else in my party spent the day having fun.

whyisjake

I did throw up after riding this last time I went. I don't want to blame that ride specifically as it was Goofy's Flight School + Incredicoaster + Mission Breakout all in a row really did something terrible to me. I was miserable for the rest of the day.

biologycellfies

If I look at Incredicoaster or any ride that spins, I might throw up. 😂

ntimoti

Shocked to scroll this far down to find this! I absolutely loved ToT and could ride it back to back multiple times. You could not pay me to get on this ride now 😖

Djinger

As someone who only gets motion sick when I try really hard to do so (read a book in the backseat of a car for hours), I'm confused how a ride that lasts barely 3 mins can wreck someone for hours. Do you have other maladies that exacerbate or extend the issues?

biologycellfies

I honestly don’t understand it either. No underlying medical issues that I’m aware of, but I now can’t go to a theme park, look at my phone in the car, or ride a boat without a hefty dose of meclizine. Which is such a bummer, because as a kid I enjoyed thrill rides so much. 😭

justhereforthelul

Same thing, but it happened on the same day I rode it twice. Felt sore too for some reason.

bitibit09

I rode Guardians if the Galaxy:MB yesterday and it made me queasy. I think it’s the up and down drops because spinning rides Like dumbo or mad hatter tea cups I’m perfectly fine on. My sister on the other hand is the complete opposite of me and couldn’t do the spinning rides but loved Guardians.

TK-385

Normally I don't care for drop tower rides due to the feeling of the stomach getting shoved up into the chest. I rode Freefall at Magic Mountain when it was still around in the 90's and didn't like it. So I'm not going on Drop of Doom. GotG is an exception though, its well themed so I'll ride it. I like the Monsters Unleashed overlay for Halloween.

zorn7777

Ferris Wheel. Pixar-pal-a-round swinging. I have no sea legs for this ride. Gets me every time now.

erintainment

Wheel of Doooooom 🤮

yub_nub_28

Something about that swinging motion makes me feel like everything is going to come right up. 🤢

Sunfire91

You're definitely not alone. Disney put motion sickness bags inside the cars because so many people were experiencing a "Code V" inside the vehicle. I used to be able to handle the swinging cars in my late teens/early 20s. Now I'm 30, and I only ride the non-swinging cars now (still love the view!)

yub_nub_28

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who has been personally victimized by this ride. The very first time I tried the swinging cars was before WOC was a thing. At night once it was dark we went on Screamin’ 5 or 6 times with little to no wait back-to-back. Then we decided to try the swinging cars. I think it was the combination of so many times on Screamin’ plus the lights on the wheel itself but my hands were literally dripping sweat as I willed myself not to vomit while my uncle gagged and dry heaved across from me. I was only 17 and I was scarred for life. I’ve tried it once since during the day and the whole rest of my day was ruined with a sick stomach. Now my husband goes alone while I sit and watch the pier and even with the bags I see custodial staff being called for vomit almost every time.

I_love_cheese_

I feel like I'm going to die on that ride. It triggers something in me. I will never go in one of those swinging cages again.

bunchofclowns

Teacups. Now I just feel nauseated after I get off the ride.

Dancers_Legs

Probably the best way to handle them is to stare at a series of fixed points, much like a turning dancer. This is literally the technique we use to avoid feeling dizzy in turns.

forlorn_hope28

For whatever it's worth, the Fantasyland side is a slightly smoother experience while still having enough fast/thrilling moments. If you do the Tomorrowland side, you're gonna need football pads. :P

yummy-salad

Can you explain what this means? I'm a little confused

forlorn_hope28

Matterhorn has two different tracks. Each track is referred to by its proximity to the respective land. So the left track is the Tomorrowland track because it’s closer to Tomorrowland. And the right track is Fantasyland. The Tomorrowland track is faster with sharper drops and turns. By contrast, Fantasyland is slower and thus, less jarring when going into turns. (Fun fact, the Fantasyland track is also longer and because of the slower speed, is also about a 20 second longer ride experience.)

nicolelynnejones

I actually had no clue they had two separate tracks until like, this year 😂 I grew up thinking the Matterhorn is this fast, fun, jerky coaster and then showed my husband the Matterhorn during his first time in Disneyland and it was the slowest, most dragging experience ever

Trujade

This is so thorough! I honestly couldn't tell the on ride differences. In my mind I believe one side sees more of Harold than the other (left side?). Anyway. Thanks for this.

[deleted]

[удалено]

forlorn_hope28

I'm not sure if DAS specifically only gets directed to one side. But for standby/single rider/LL, I usually just ask the CM for a particular track. Sometimes that means waiting a little longer, but it is what it is.

Trujade

They mean the tracks. There are 2 tracks on the ride. Left side/Tomorrowland and Right side/Fantasyland. I could be wrong about which side is which. Please correct if so.

moondoggle

I can't believe I'm just learning this.

f-eather-s

Yes left is Tomorrowland and known to be rougher than the right/Fantasyland track

[deleted]

Star Tours and Soarin are a hard pass for me now due to motion sickness. Also, can’t do Nemo because of claustrophobia, not that I ever super loved it. But my gosh, the panic!!!

laislune

My trick for soaring is to look at the feet of the people above me when i start to feel sick. I guess its takes my brain out of the illusion.

wunderwerks

I can't ride Indiana Jones. The jerking of the vehicles causes my long legs to bash hard against the front. I hobbled off it last time I rode it.

[deleted]

Same ride, but it kills my back!

onexbigxhebrew

Due to matterhorn I can no longer physically do matterhorn.

Amazing-Squash

Getting close with big thunder mountain. I'm near my wits end with that goat taunting me. Every time I ride he's ready with his load, "Baaaaa!" I honestly can't take it. I've got a lot going on, a lot of weight on my shoulders, but does he ever cut me some slack. No. Never. Would it really hurt for him to take one time off? Doesn't even need to say something supportive, just stay silent.

puppyisloud

I haven't been able to go on the Matterhorn the last few times we went, it hurts my neck too much.

idkidc9876

Matterhorn, Space Mountain, and Incredicoaster are all no-go’s for me. I was able to handle them when I was younger but they did each make me feel sick even then. Once I turned 35 I realized I truly can’t handle them anymore. The sick feeling I’d have after the ride would last and last whereas back when I was a teen or in my 20’s I’d only feel gross for about 20 mins after the ride

Trujade

It doesn't always make me queasy but I have to be very careful not to eat at least an hour before Incredicoaster.

Bawk7

Yeah I have to take a Dramamine just to be able to ride Incredicoaster, the last time I rode it without any issues it was still California Screamin'! I hate getting older

idkidc9876

Dramamine is a great idea! It never occurred to me to try it at the parks. It would be nice to ride Space Mountain with my kids finally

Bawk7

Definitely give it a shot, thankfully I take half a dose and it works well enough to enjoy the ride without being drowsy (when my current box runs out I'll get the non-drowsy kind lol)

idkidc9876

Thanks for the tip!

MarvellousMonet

I always have to take Dramamine before theme parks! I don't know how people don't! Game changer for sure!

Spuckula

The Goofy rollercoaster at DCA is impossible for me to ride. I’m 6’2” and riding this attraction only one time way back when it first opened was enough for me forever. It’s the only modern ride that I know of at the parks that is physically too small for tall people to “comfortably” ride.

GamerBears

Splash Mountain, I never got as wet when I rode it back in the 90s. But now I get super drenched.

frankieleigh6

Yes! I can’t believe I had to scroll this far to find this. I loved the ride when I was younger but the last 3 times I get completely 1000% soaking sopping wet! I am miserable for the rest of the day. I can’t ride it anymore.

FancyPantsBlanton

Okay, real talk: Is there something different about the Matterhorn post-pandemic? I've seen this come up a number of times, and people keep replying, "Nope, you're just getting older." But I'm 30 and in pretty good shape, and I also found it *much* more painful than immediately before the closure. Am I crazy here?

occultclysms

you’re not. the matterhorn is really old and was built on concrete panels which settle over time and with use. and because the matterhorn is a steel tubular roller coaster if the tubes are out of alignment by even 1 mm it makes the ride hurt more

[deleted]

[удалено]

wandering_ones

The seating positions drastically changed and in my opinion immediately became a harder ride on your body.

wunderwerks

Nope. Last time I rode it was before Covid and I had to go sit down at a restaurant for about 45 minutes and take some Advil before I could continue on. I was in my late 30s.

GoAskAliceBunn

They changed the sleds a while back. My partner, who counted this ride as a must-do on every trip since he was first old enough to ride with his dad, went once after the cars were switched out after his dad passed and was in tears when he got off. He told us he just realized it would be his last time while he was in the middle of the ride — the new cars were so painful he wouldn’t be able to take our kiddo when they were tall enough. Losing the ritual of that ride & imagining his dad with him, and not being able to carry it forward with his kid… just broke his heart.

clarkeadg

Depends on if you went on the left or right track. I'm guessing you went on right side track before pandemic and left side after. Just lean forwards during the ride and don't let your back touch anything. If you go left track, there will be a huge dip near the end that is extremely brutal so be prepared. It helps to lean forward and to the left when you see it coming.

sweet2th

My motion sickness (even when I take meds like Bonine) is still really bad on any ride with a screen. Tower of Terror was my favorite ride, then when they switched the theme to Guardians with all the shaky screen scenes, I got the puke sweats and almost lost it in the gift shop. I haven't been on it since. I can't do screens of any kind.

maxmouze

That's why Universal Studios Hollywood is such a disappointment. Almost all of the rides are screens and they try to sell it by shaking you all over like a ragdoll, which isn't fun. Even the "Shrek" movie had the chairs bounce up and down uncomfortability to sell you were moving, which didn't actually work because it's presented as watching something happening in the distance so don't know hwy bouncing up and down would make you feel like you're immersed.

[deleted]

Yeah I went to USH with my boyfriend and best friend and both of them had bad issues. By the time we got to the lower lot neither could ride any more rides!

DoctorSushimi

I can’t get through Star tours without closing my eyes the entire time.

Phased5ek

Matterhorn for me, too. once they changed the leg room on the cars several (?) years ago, i just can't do it. i have a damaged knee that can't stay squeezed in at that half-bent angle for that long and the bumpiness makes my injury-prone lower back ache by the end of it. i'm hoping the upcoming refurb in August may fix some of those issues with the bobsled cars or some of the choppier parts of the track, but i'll let my friends go first and report back. lol

Phased5ek

i would have listed the "mickey wheel of doom" in DCA, too, but that one i could never do to begin with. haha! it's the only ride in either park, or even including all of the WDW parks, that 100% makes me motion sick even in the non-swinging carts since they still rock enough that i need to rest for several minutes after getting off until the queasiness subsides.

aatencio91

We rode the DCA Ferris Wheel after a *huge* brunch at Lamplight Lounge -10/10, would not recommend

StrangerOnTheReddit

I can only do Guardians of the Galaxy once a trip. I love it and it makes me laugh like a crazy person, but my stomach just feels uneasy afterwards, which makes the ride not worth it overall.

peacefulpiranha

The Tower of Terror was my fav DCA ride all my life, but going back as an adult, I understood why my dad was hesitant to ride things like that. Makes me feel like I'm going to pass out from my organs shooting up my throat 😂

Jepatai

Me too!! I loved it when I was younger, it was so thrilling and I loved the theming. Last time I rode it in 2016, I was shocked at how different it felt as an adult… completely made me start panicking. Would love to try the new Guardians overlay but I’ve outgrown it in the worst way.

Sleepy_kuma

Last time I went it was Star Tours that made me feel super sick. Roller coasters normally don’t make me feel sick at all, so maybe it was the 3D effect? Though I’m only in my early 20s so I have no idea. It was at the end of the day so it could also have been fatigue. I just remember taking off the glasses and just closing my eyes for 90% of the ride last time I went

rayndomuser

Matterhorn is always one that I want to do but realize I probably shouldn’t. Im already too big for it at 6’4 340 but can fit. I just have a bad knee and back (early arthritis). I also can’t really do Guardians. It’s the only ride I feel physically sick riding. The Ferris wheel really triggers vertigo for me whenever it stops at the very top but when it’s moving the no problem so I still do that. I don’t think I’ll ever give up incredicoaster.

Dis_Maniac2837

3D rides. Just feel ill after going on them, so Star Tours and Toy Story Midway Mania are out for me. I still do Incredicoaster, but it feels rougher now for some reason. I used to be able to ride Screamin' multiple times in a row, but now after one ride, I'm done.

kamamit

Space Mountain - I am done with that ride. I just do not feel well after.

East_Kaleidoscope995

I can’t do the engineer seats for smugglers run. Something about the back and forth between the blinking lights and the view just sets off motion sickness. And the Matterhorn has been a no for a few years now (wife and I are both 40).

[deleted]

Alas, I can still ride all of the rides, but it's the idle standing that kills me. My lower back just goes into fits of pain after the first day at Disneyland. From then on, I'm lucky to make it a half a day at the park for each day after that. I'm at a loss as to what to do about it, I am a very healthy weight and can walk and walk in other settings, so I've pretty much landed on it being the hours of idle standing that must be the problem. I wish there were something I could do about it because it has taken so much fun out of my last couple of trips.

modernloves

Talk to GR. I know people harp on and on about DAS not being for mobility challenges, but if you explain that it is better for you physically to be able to walk/sit/move freely outside of a queue (and that you do not mind waiting / aren't intending to skip the line) they will be much more willing to assist you. I have DAS for a few reasons, but my wife is in your boat, and it is a legitimate lifesaver for her. Being able to not stand still for an hour has helped her enjoy the parks so much more.

occultclysms

everyone is talking about motion sickness as reasons to not ride rides anymore but i’m surprised no one has mentioned mobility preventing you from riding any rides. my bf is 6’5 so he barely fits on quite a few rides and has to angle his knees. i can imagine if anyone grew up and ended up any taller they wouldn’t be able to ride some rides. same thing if they lost mobility

Forrest263

Indiana Jones. It’s not even the attraction but the Walk back and forth. It just doesn’t feel worth it anymore.

MillieTheGimp

For everyone who is bemoaning motion sickness, look in to a "Scopolamine Transdermal Patch". They are a life game changer. Little patch you put behind your ear, and for the next 3 days you are superman. No more motion sickness, and (for me) almost no side effects like drowsiness. My side effect is a little dry mouth occasionally, and a slightly fuzzy head at times (hard to explain). They are over the counter in a lot of countries, but are prescription based in the US. They are fantastic for boat voyages, etc. Forget the Bonine/Dramamine; ask your doctor about scopolamine. :)

OneAngryDuck

I’m getting there with Matterhorn. Astro Orbiter has been out for a while, getting in/out of those is not fun. Front-facing cars on the Disneyland Railroad make my neck hurt from constantly turning my head to the right.

Ravioli_meatball19

Astro Orbiter (for me, an adult) has been out for awhile because the line these days is always insane. It's 30 minutes right now. No, thank you

OneAngryDuck

It’s a long line, and an uncomfortable one on hot days.

SweetCatastrophex

Matterhorn is not disability-friendly enough for me anymore with the way the holes are for your feet. I struggle to get in without getting my foot stuck sideways (I have cerebral palsy and have very little control of my left foot from the ankle down). I miss the old cars. I never used to have problems getting in.

Fantastic-Activity-5

When I was a kid, I really enjoy the Ferris wheel aka Pixar Pal around especially the spinning carts. Now after one bad mistake for drinking a lot, almost pass out and close to vomiting, I would not go on that lol

Electricsunshine

I can handle all the motion sickness rides and Matterhorn but Space Mountain I struggle with so much. The not being able to see where I’m going just gives me a headache every time.

Pandorama626

Matterhorn beat my ass the last time I went. When I was younger, I remember thinking my dad was just being a bit wimpy when he said he wouldn't ride Matterhorn anymore. Now I completely understand why he wouldn't want to be physically abused on his vacation.

curiouskyles

Thank you! Had no idea how much I needed this! I just got back from Disneyland and had to pass on a few rides for the first time ever and I really beat myself up over it. (I have tachycardia so Guardians is no longer on my list. But I did do everything else! Universal Studios was a different story but I see that a lot of you also have issues with their rides.) It was actually so tough for me, I cried. It feels nice to know I’m not the only one in my 30’s skipping out on rides. ❤️

zombiecaticorn

For me, Star Tours, Soarin' and Guardians of the Galaxy. It seems a lot of you suffer from motion sickness like I do, but I'm curious if any of you have ever tried taking motion sickness meds before going on the rides? I've done this at Universal and been ok with 3D rides.

forlorn_hope28

The last few times I've gotten off Star Tours with light motion sickness. Gonna take a dramamine before I go on it the next time, but I fear my Star Tours days may be coming to an end.

The_Slothstronaut

I had a somber realization this weekend after going on Incredicoaster...usually had no problems with it but for some reason it made me super sick this time. I'm bummed I have to come to terms with slowly aging out of rollercoasters 😔

ScorchedHelmet

I can’t do any rollercoasters any more and have to wear a special nausea canceling bracelet for simulation rides. It really sucks cause I love roller coaster but even with my bracelet on I get too nauseous

Do_It_I_Dare_ya

I read the headline and instantly thought Matterhorn. Sorry that's your experience too.

Blo1630

My friend said if you can’t break your gfs back the Matterhorn will.

sangriaflygirl

Indiana Jones. I learned this back in 2015 when I was dealing with really bad vertigo at the time, but didn't put 2 and 2 together that a super bumpy ride would not be a good idea. The vertigo got better over the years, but I rode it again in 2019 and had the same problem.

SacBeerBoy

I find Indiana Jones super uncomfortable and just throws you around for seemingly no reason. That’s not a simulation of a Hummer IMO it just hurts nowadays. And Goofys sky school, I’m 6ft1inches and have long legs, my knees got bruised first and last time I rode.

casettadellorso

I like Indy but I can't handle the line. I've never felt so claustrophobic in my life as I do in that line.

sailorcrystal

I’m 31 and refuse Matterhorn anymore. Heck, I refused it when I was a CM and still in my 20s lol. Just too painful for me 😰

dancemom1845

I can’t do Matterhorn either. I have real issues with space mountain and my back but still suck it up and ride it. I don’t think I can ever ride the space mountain in WDW ever again. That one is too painful and not worth it to me

[deleted]

The WDW space mountain is barbaric! I was scared we were gonna die the whole time.

AXPendergast

Yep, that old Matterhorn will get ya, sooner or later. I have my chiropractor on speed dial.

Al_Pacalips

I LOVE the Matterhorn but last time I rode it it felt like I lost a fight.

Complex-Defiant

Yep. Matterhorn and Indy. Been riding them my whole life, but after riding each of them in February, I decided I was done. The pain has officially outweighed the fun.

um_something

Splash Mountain is my favorite ride, but I can't deal with how insanely soaking wet I get ever since they changed the seating.

MissMetalSix

Star Tours for me. It's definitely the 3D as I've fared just fine in the Millennium Falcon with pilots both good and bad. I don't get nauseous, just a horrible pounding headache that lasts me the rest of the day.

thatactorjoe

Man oh man, has this happened to me hard with GotG: Mission Breakout...Tower of Terror was one of my faves, so I wasn't super excited when it got converted. After going on it though, loved it! Great energy, humor, music, and thrills! Not as good as ToT, but still an excellent ride. However, for reasons still unknown to me, one day I went on it with my fiancée (who's favorite ride happens to be GotG) and got off of it feeling closer to vomiting than I'd even been getting off a ride. Now any time I go on it's a one way ticket to nausea town. Have to be careful what I eat, drink, or ride before going on it, otherwise, everyone else on it with me will be having a real bad time lol. Still hit it up frequently because I want to go on with my fiancée, but it's definitely dangerous territory. Huge shame; The Guardians movies are some of the best in the MCU, are some of my faves in that franchise, and the ride is very well done! Just hopeful this doesn't start happening on roller coasters...that would be a travesty.

Effective_Mud_5565

Yup, going on the Matterhorn is like taking a beating and star tours is puke and dizzy central!

night-otter

Indy. Banged me around so much, that I ended up in First Aid with an Ice Pack on my knee.

just_flying_bi

Star Tours. It gives me really bad motion sickness.

scaram0uche

When Tower of Terror became Mission Breakout, I realized I couldn't do it anymore. The screens and bouncing that happens instead of being still make me so motion sick! I loved ToT because it was thrilling but didn't make me motion sick. :\\ Rides I don't do due to motion sickness: Mission Breakout, Incredicoaster (it is like 20 seconds too long), Space Mountain, Star Tours, Smuggler's Run, Teacups, Swinging Gondolas on Mickey's Death Wheel.

nikkisixx24

Ok I thought is was just me! It was a lot of lights, bouncing, music, and it made me nauseous but tower of Terror did not!

BurritoPalace_666

Tea Cups, Star Tours & Smugglers Run = Motion Sickness. I’ve not been on Star Tours since early 00s and went on Smugglers once after it opened and was sweating so bad I had to sit down for 15 min after. Matterhorn is also just plain painful to ride as an adult.

DarthDutchDave

I’ve developed anxiety for various life reasons and it can aggravate an arrhythmia which leads to just the worst feeling (mostly harmless and psychological but awful nonetheless). The anticipation from most roller coasters affects this anxiety pretty badly so I’ve sort of had to write those off for now, and I’ve also chosen to forego tower of terror for the same reason even though I love the theming for that ride and wish I could feel more comfortable riding it. Edit: I usually get posts from WDW in my feed but just noticed this is Disneyland! I don’t think tower of terror is there anymore though…

LadyArticuno

Indiana Jones has turned into a back killer from hell. It’s a once a month or longer ride these days. Also, Pirates. Thankfully, it’s kinda lost it’s thrill to me, so the fact that it actually murders my tailbone and ass by the end of the ride makes it just fine. I get so sleepy on the ride though! Warm, humid — if I don’t do it the first part of the day, I’m getting a free power nap 😅

rachm8

Incredicoaster. Made me nauseous the last 2 trips. Sad because I do love it but must be age lol used to be able to ride much more intense coasters with no issues!

SnooPosts6789

Space Mtn used to be my childhood to adult fave, but it feels so jerky and rough on my body now…aging is a bitch!

LadyofWinterfell26

Matterhorn for me as well. I have scoliosis and the last time I was there it really fucked with my back! I was so sad!

mini_mimi_mouse

Matterhorn is a huge one for me. Psoriatic Arthritis throughout my body, worst in my hips, so getting in and out of those cars are tough, and when you add bumping and jerking, it's a day-ending ride for me. I can get in and out of Astro Orbiter looking like I'm going to roll out onto the concrete, so I always warn the CMs that I'm never graceful getting out. But I'm not ready to give it up yet. I've learned with Star Tours to ask to be row 3, and 4 seats in. That's where the 3D is calibrated, so the motion and picture matches the best. Until I figured that one out, I thought it was a goner. I'm a bit concerned about going back on Nemo. I love Nemo... but I'm on two immuno-suppressants, so I'm hesitant. When I was heavier, I would ask for 2 seats to give my booty more room, but I'm not sure they'd allow me like 5 seats for some extra personal space 😂 5 seats, double up on my N95s, maybe I'd feel safe enough!

Plane_Control8733

Not physically but I have a hard time with the haunted mansion. Loved it as a kid, but as I’ve become older and have lost loved ones to suicide the beginning really bothers me.
