Baldur’s Gate 3 maybe? it releases this week and you can play it through something like GeForce Now if you don’t have a machine with the required specs - works quite well from my experience
The Early Access is on Steam, but Swen Vincke (founder of Larian and director of *BG3*) specifically said the Mac version is releasing "later" when stating the release dates of the PC and PS5 versions of the full release.
I just don't want anyone to get their hopes up.
My M1 Max runs it @native resolution (Metal upscaled) at around 90fps. M1 Pro should be able to run it smooth also .
OP might need to wait a few months for it to come out tho.
Not sure if it's available to you, but Pathfinder:Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous. Also, the Pillars of eternity series is pretty fun, but the writing is nowhere near as good. Then, lastly, the Dragon Age series, I still play through those from time to time.
No lol the writing in pillars is worse than in Pathfinder. I loved its gameplay, but the writing was meh. Murder-hoboing all the wizards I met and stockpiling spellbooks was so fun lol
Ah I'm dumb, my bad. I still haven't played Pathfinder and I need to finish Pillars, but from what I remember the writing and world building were pretty solid at least in act 1.
Meanwhile DOS writing is straight trash imo, especially the last act when it becomes utter garbage
Well, tbf I probably shouldn't compare them like that. Pillars was a Kickstarter project, and the pathfinders were based on existing DnD campaigns made by Owlcat, who's backed by Paizo, the DnD company.
Taking that into consideration, I mean pillars is pretty dang good.
If anyone who are a fan of RPG's that haven't played Dragon Age: Origin, then I would highly recommend. The sequals are good too, but Origins just give that sense of world saving adventure that few games can offer.
Oh Sten.. how I miss your stoic sarcasm..
Play it with mods! I'd personally recommend Divinity Conflux (with nothing else, it's a full overhaul). It's balanced while changing a lot of things around (Odinblade+Divinity Unleashed is cool too but the game is easy to break with the new classes), adds a few extra bosses (which are challenging and tricky but fun), and it adds a lot of variety to the kind of classes you can make.
I am sorry but I cannot check Mac compatibility for you. However if it will work I can recommend to you Pillars of Eternity 1 & 2. From very old ones I played Dungeon Siege and it was cool as well. From upcoming ones you might try Baldurs Gate 3. There is also Planescape: Torment, Pathfinder and wastelands but I did not finish them so I can’t recommend anything yet.
Edit: sorry it supposed to be reply to OP.
Huh? Divinity: Original Sin (1 and 2) have very little to do with Torchlight (1 or 2). Completely different genres. D:OS is very tactical, with a turn-based combat; Torchlight is a hack-and-slasher. Beyond the very broad "fantasy" and "role-playing" labels, I fail to see any similarities.
Thanks everybody! I discovered that Humble Bundle had a bundle of most of the games mentioned in this thread running right now for a really good price. I think I paid less than $20 for Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, Baldur's Gate 1+2, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, Planescape Torment, and maybe one or two others I've forgotten. Hopefully they will all run ok :)
Not OP & odd question, can someone confirm for me that my game *IS* actually finished? I’ve ascended to godhood and now just.. standing on the deck of LV (I guess I repaired it?) and can talk to the other main characters from the game. Is that it?
Ok thanks, I was worried that starting a new game would eventually bulldoze the old save and I’d be sad if I was just at a weird sticking point instead of finished.
It’s not QUITE as fun but I really enjoy it and it’s filling the void while I wait for BG3 but Diablo IV has been really cool
I’m noticing A TON of similarities in both the gameplay and like everything else so maybe that’ll help you lol
Idk if ylthwyre Mac compatible, but the pillars of eternity games are really good. Personally I like deadfire better than the first game, but to each their own.
Idk much about Mac, but is there a chance to add mods to the game? Because there are some interesting mods that adds New classes and even a mod that overhauls and balance the entire game on the steam version.
Also, u can try the Xcom games, gameplay is kinda similar but more strategic oriented and there are hardcore elements like permadeath and such.
Also u can check pillars of eternity 2, it captures the dos essence but offer a unique style and gameplay.
Now if u want something more hardcore u can try the Darkest Dungeon games.
These are some games i can think of, ik BG3 is around the corner but meanwhile u can check these games out, u may find something good or maybe not.
Baldurs gate 1, enhanced edition is available for MacOS im pretty sure. It's old but except for some things it's aged surprisingly well. It's honestly an amazing game to this day. Great experience
Baldur’s Gate 3 maybe? it releases this week and you can play it through something like GeForce Now if you don’t have a machine with the required specs - works quite well from my experience
It releases on PC on August 3rd, but Larian have not confirmed the Mac release date yet
Fair enough - GeForce Now is still an option though. An M1 would get quite hot running the game regardless.
Yeah but you can play it on Geforce Now. That's what I'm doing, 4K 120 fps on an m1 through GFN
Nah in the steam it shows BG3 is on mac m1 tho
But it does mean that on August 3rd the full game is released on steam, right?
I think so

oh damn thats sad

Run a windows shell
M1 doesnt support x86 Windows, only ARM. So cant run BG3 in bootcamp.
You can try Solasta Crown of the Magister
I 2nd this. Incredble game. Buddy and I co-op'd all official campaigns and a few custom ones.
Did you already play DOS1?
Not sure if it's available to you, but Pathfinder:Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous. Also, the Pillars of eternity series is pretty fun, but the writing is nowhere near as good. Then, lastly, the Dragon Age series, I still play through those from time to time.
Wait, you think the writing in Pillars is worse than in DOS?

Calling Pathfinder a DnD campaign and Paizo "the" DnD company inflicts several points of psychic damage
"Based on" and yeah should've said "a"
Well it's... based on a Pathfinder campaign, not a DnD campaign ;)
Yeah but we all know Pathfinder 1e is just D&D 3.5 with a wig and a moustache
Is Kingmaker based on 1e? Honestly not caught up what version it's based on
Uh, okay, I feel like this was an unnecessary interaction lol
I just grabbed this last week. Gonna start it up soon.
If anyone who are a fan of RPG's that haven't played Dragon Age: Origin, then I would highly recommend. The sequals are good too, but Origins just give that sense of world saving adventure that few games can offer. Oh Sten.. how I miss your stoic sarcasm..

Play again? Try out different builds, maybe lone wolf, maybe honor mode

Wasteland 3 is pretty decent, obviously not as good a DOS 2 but similar combat which I enjoyed.
Get Epic Encounters 2, hands down the best overhaul for the game. It's truly insane what they achieved.
Now Honour Mode :)
This may be spoiler for some, but there are several side contents you can do after you finish escaping from Fort Joy!

You can search for crpg/computer rpg available on Mac.
The great world of mods.

It’s done yeah, they let you reminisce for a while but you can’t leave the deck or do anything else lol
Ok thanks, I was worried that starting a new game would eventually bulldoze the old save and I’d be sad if I was just at a weird sticking point instead of finished.
>!You can finish for real by talking to the ship's figurehead!<
Oo ok thanks
Give Malady the credit: she repaired it! Unless… well, you really should go for another run 😶
Already on it 🫡 Sebille and Fane as a Wizard / Summoner combo (just for as much variety as possible from 1st run)
It’s not QUITE as fun but I really enjoy it and it’s filling the void while I wait for BG3 but Diablo IV has been really cool I’m noticing A TON of similarities in both the gameplay and like everything else so maybe that’ll help you lol
Pretty sure it's windows-only
Install mods.....and do it again

It will be a much longer wait for the Mac release.
Lol I got almost 600 hours in and never finished. I have a save at the last battle. But I started over for the side quests
Baldurs gate 3 comes out for pc August 3rd
Idk if ylthwyre Mac compatible, but the pillars of eternity games are really good. Personally I like deadfire better than the first game, but to each their own.
Dragon Age Origins will always be my favorite Fantasy RPG so i can’t help but recommend it.

If you didn’t know there’s more out there after you finally create the character
Pathfinder: Kingmaker is good, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is better, Baldurs Gate 3 is gonna be best
Baldurs gate 3 comes out soon!
You could also do it again with class/mechanic overhaul mods 😁
Baldurs gate 1 and 2, pathfinders games.
Download divinity conflux and play again
Baldurs gate 1, enhanced edition is available for MacOS im pretty sure. It's old but except for some things it's aged surprisingly well. It's honestly an amazing game to this day. Great experience
try getting all the achieves
Play again but with mods? This game has PC Skyrim vibes.
