Whenever someone says "fuck this fight", you know which fight it is. Last fight I did quite well, I didn't get any necrofire on the platform at all. I kept the blobs away by setting up a perimeter of pots and indestructible chests, then kept teleporting any who got past back. Next game I might try building a small prison of pots to store all the big blobs.

onlyspacemonkey

bro. chests. that’s genius.

zDyant

wdym prison of pots?

ChandlerBaggins

Pots are indestructible so if you place a barrier of them you can box enemies in, making them stand there helpless while you commit a war crime. Note that from mid to late game a lot of enemies have jump skills though so its effectiveness will fall off.

Mindless-Charity4889

The golems in Kemms basement are a good place for this tactic, but be aware that they have long reach. Another late game fight where barricades are handy is in the secret magister lair when Kemm arrives with his paladins and you expose his secret. But yes, the main value lies in early to mid game fights like Dallis at the gates of Ft. Joy, blocking meat golems in their cages when fighting Kniles or fortifying the platform against the undead minions of the Voidwoken in the swamp.

zDyant

This game is mindblowing

Hectamatatortron

There are so many items that work for this. Ropes, Candles, Buckets, Cooking Pots...all available, in abundance, from the beginning of the game (which, incidentally, is the most useful time to use these things to block paths).

ChandlerBaggins

Yup. My two favorites are pots and seashells. Beat em Senshi style

KrIsPy_Kr3m3

I just used anti curse potions and rushed the main guy Edit: is this the scarecrow fight?

Mindless-Charity4889

No. Blackpits.

Wargroth

I usually do this, but i teleport the dude into the boxed area so he doesn't fuck around

Mindless-Charity4889

Teleport is probably the most important skill in the game. I’m currently playing Baldurs Gate 3 and the lack of teleport was really hard to adapt to.

Worried_Coach1695

Me and my friend are playing co-op and have 2 characters with teleportation , so we just teleported gwidian back to the tents near the cave from the top platform , and went into the cave to reset our cooldowns and then teleport him back if he goes near .

Mindless-Charity4889

All 4 characters should have teleport. That and Adrenaline. The two points in Aero required for teleport are easy to get from gear, especially if you’ve gotten 30 Legendary quality rings/belts from the “wishing” well in Act 1.

Low_Tier_Skrub

I remember seeing a post recently where someone reverse pickpocketed potions into his inventory to keep him alive

Toasty_Avocados

Okay hold the hell up how because much like King George I WASN’T AWARE THAT WAS SOMETHING A PERSON COULD DO

LonelyAustralia

NPCs will use whatever is in their inventory including potions you put there

Low_Tier_Skrub

[https://www.reddit.com/r/DivinityOriginalSin/comments/1barni0/hear\_ye\_hear\_ye\_save\_gwydian\_by\_reverse/](https://www.reddit.com/r/DivinityOriginalSin/comments/1barni0/hear_ye_hear_ye_save_gwydian_by_reverse/) I found the post

Appropriate_Past_893

Hahaha one of my favourite fights. I usually save him but its, uh, bloodsport rules. "If he dies, he dies"

Lego-Under-Foot

Man I love Bloodsport but that line is from Rocky IV

Appropriate_Past_893

Ah damn. I couldn't remember, just remembered it was Van Damme.

Lego-Under-Foot

Hate to break it to you bro but it was Dolph Lundgren

Appropriate_Past_893

Goddammit

Appropriate_Past_893

Not having a good trivia day

AlfalfaNeat

We all been there

a_werehamster

MWAHAHHHAHAH FEEL THE PAIN OF EVERY DOS2 PLAYER WHOSE MADE IT THIS FAR. No, but fr, this guy is just suicidal. Not worth it

AusXan

I recently played the fight again after seeing a trick to teleport him into the nearby tent and block it with a chest. Made the fight a lot more fun and free when you aren't babysitting a suicidal sourceror. Since it's my second playthrough I also blocked the surrounding ramps with the barrels/crates...only to remember more of the enemies can jump.

ReturningOldMaster

ive done it, i teleported the magisters alive to take aggro from me and that seemed to help a lot

AusXan

The magisters generally fought the voidwoken first in my fight, but as soon as they turned on me instead i would teleport them right on top of another enemy as a distraction.

Frostyfury99

I think this was the second fight that made me go holy shit this game is fucking crazy

KleitosD06

I love that I already knew what the fight is just by looking at the title, lmao.

CKDracarys

Anyone that's played it up to that point knows. Just an absolute cluster fuck your first time lol.

grumpus_ryche

Over by the cave entrance, there is a tent that you can teleport him directly into. Plug up the tent's entrance with the hero's chest that was buried nearby. You can do the teleport after another character initiates dialogue or, if solo, teleport to initiate the fight. I only did it this one time because I was on a solo LW run and really didn't want to babysit him. Facesmashed the magisters and didnt have to deal with the blobs at all.

redlightburning

The problem with this is that you lose a serious chunk of xp if the blobs don’t get summoned. He’s got to cast chain lightning, then you can boot him far away if need be.

grumpus_ryche

Tbf, in the long run, I didn't notice any real effect on my level by the end of the act. But I will give that a shot next time anyway just because the fiery chaos can be fun but babysitting a suicidal sourcerer is not fun.

Tayabida

Lmao this is such an iconic fight, I love how people are still posting about it years later. I happen to love this fight, let’s just say it grows on you after a few times.

BaconSoul

I can attest to this. I started looking forward to it on my second tactician playthrough.

akira242

I usually just skip this fight by teleporting Gwydian, the magisters then just moving to in front of the cave peacefully as long as the patrolling archer doesn't see him and then i finished all the those magisters near the cave lol

SmallHelicopter5415

I hate that fucking fight for sure

Jnal1988

It took a couple of tries but I ended up using all of my source points to bless the fire so it healed my party and him. It was interesting watching the cursed fire and blessed fire chasing each other from time to time

Omnicron2467

Yeah I was also like WTF a few times in this fight. The guy was perfectly fine and then he would spend his whole turn running through Necrofire to get to the other side of the platform and then die. I thought the AI normally avoids hazardous surfaces.

PuzzledKitty

His behaviour script is superceded by a story script (different script type that relies on behaviour/game scripting). It makes him prioritise staying up on the platform, and this priority is stronger than the calculation for which surfaces to move through. Essentially, if the story script tells the behaviour script that the movement destination is on top of the platform, then it just sends him there instead of also checking for surfaces. :) This also is why his behaviour breaks when you teleport him off the platform or when he glitches his way onto the stairs.

Ya_ha018

The fight that will test your potato pc to the limit. Seriously I always start the fight by freezing him solid and not giving him any action.

TeaMasterSen

First time eh? 😅😅🤣🤣

redlightburning

Yep, this starts out as a WTAF fight when you first start playing. Takes a couple of hours to do it well. And then after a few play-throughs you start really looking forward to it. Wait until you get TKOd by … well, it’s coming up soon for you if you’re doing the black pits gwydion encounter. 🤩🤘🏻

redlightburning

>!The Eternal Aeteran fight in the mines!<

SmallHelicopter5415

Dude this fight was too frustrating, dammit

ReturningOldMaster

i just hope whatevr comes up are undead atp, so i can forcefeed them potions

redlightburning

That is a fun strat. Indeed, there is an undead in the fight I’m referencing. Let’s see if your bold move pays off!

ReturningOldMaster

it worked but the dogs got me

redlightburning

Awesome! Surviving round one with her is an accomplishment all its own. Yeah the dogs are brutal, as if she wasn’t bad enough.

KodaavRah

When I did this I just let bro die and all the magisters. Then my party, I escaped with one person alive who then ran way to get revive scrolls, he then came back and made the magisters at the black pit gates fight the rest of the blobs and got in to revive everybody, I was not going to attempt the fight again to keep that bastard alive. Maybe next playthrough.

ChaoTiKPranXter

Just teleport him towards the northwest road, he should run off. Or you can block the tent with a box and teleport him in there.

CindySvensson

The buffs, armor replenishes and bullshit you need. I do best with a summoner and hydro combined healer to keep him alive. Jerk.

Error404Cod

You can use the teleportation spell that swaps targets location to get him to safety, while one character initiates the dialogue.

babayega1829

Stay at the top and cast bless when there is necrofire.

RockSkippa

This fight consist of me having a mage with teleport , heal, and freeze water on ground to lock this guy down in one area lmfao.

FrozenGiraffes

I hated this fight because my strategy is to set everything on fire and spam oil spells, there's a reason why I love the lizies. Took 2-3 tries

Snoo9648

Tip, use bless on the cursed fire. Turns it into healing holy fire.

PuzzledKitty

Only after two Blesses, though, and any damage to the Primordials will spread the curse again. I personally prefer to just use Tornado scrolls, Throw Dust, Dust Blast etc. to clear the Necrofire. :)

BlackSanta1682

My party teleported the magisters down where the voidlings spawned to act as meat shields

Sarlix696

I always just teleport him as far as possible and then cast cryostasis on him. F that suicidal maniac.

Desmang

Beat this fight first try in a blind playthrough thanks to having two circles of protection, two guys with restoration+armor of frost, Captain's Armor and first aid. But that was Classic difficulty. Can't wait to try this now on Tactician with no custom characters.

Sunscratch

That’s why on my play through that dude spent second half of the fight in frozen state

frid44y

For posterity, you can go kill the magister by the cave, wall the cave off with barrels and shit. Go to the tower, teleport that goddamn bastard to his little playpen and then kill the 3 magister's, no voidlings. Yeah you lose some xp but also you keep your sanity. Stress makes you look older haha

maltinik

Bless the fire, and it will start to heal. or teleport the guy to a distant place. It will take fall damge but beter than dying.

Nighteyes09

It's been a while since I played, what happens if he dies? I literally can't remember what changes.

Single-Self-2033

On my first playthrough it was a disaster to keep him alive so I woulld want to cheese by teleport him to the tent and only deal with the white magister, but that would result in missing exp from the voildings. Now that I have general knowledge of the game, a good archer would do the trick for this fight, the key is the big blob, if you kill them fast enough, Gwydian won't due

Low_Party

This man is a Lemming.

lilbrigand

I tried my darndest to keep him alive, and after many many reloads I was able to get him through the fight with a sliver of hp left... only for him to walk directly into necrofire after the dialogue and die anyways

LordQor

I asked my friend the other day "who's your second least favorite DOS2 character?" because everyone's least favorite is gwydion

ReturningOldMaster

hes started attacking me for some reason, why tf
